Came here last night for tenacious trivia.

We arrived at about 7:30 for a Meetup and the place was completely empty to our surprise. My friend who was holding the meetup ended up getting sick at the last minute. She had asked one of our mutual friends to coordinate it for her. Jason and I arrived before he did, so we asked the manager if he was aware of the large amount of people who had RSVPed. Turns out the manager had no clue.

Turns out it didn't seem to be a problem either. The manager promptly set up 3 tables of 8 for us. 27 had rsvped, per usual, not everyone shows. It worked out great for the quantity of seats he provided. Plus he gave us all separate tabs too.

Within 15 minutes of being there, it filled up to capacity. The Meetupers showed up along with the other patrons who were going to play. I ordered food and everyone else got their drink on.

I ordered the peppered tenderloin sandwich with sweet potato fries. Gotta love my sweet taters! I was impressed. The meat was prepared with perfection and my fries were off the chain!! I can fully understand why it says on the menu that it is "award winning". It's a bit steep in pricing, but totally worth it in my opinion. $13 well spent.

Jason got the potato soup that consisted of leeks, onions, bacon, and of course, potato. He said it was "ok". Comparable to other places, he desired cheese in it or ideally for it to have tasted better. The one bite I had of it, I found it quite good. He didn't think it was worth the $5 though. He thought it had about the same quality as St. Louis Bread Company's. Harsh critic, maybe?

Ambiance of this place reminds me of one of my favorite pubs I used to regularly visit while I lived in Ireland. It's very quaint with a true gastropub feel to it.

Adjacent to Molly's is the bed and breakfast. I'm not sure what the pricing is for that, but I do know it is called the Seven Gables Inn.

I like it. 4 stars, indeed!

As the Irish would say, "Sláinte!"

Only had drinks here, but they were all great. I forgot the name on the first, but it was house infused bacon bourbon with maple Syrup and bitters maybe? I couldn't taste the bacon, but the sweetness of the maple syrup was a nice addition. Then came the true delights, first a Makers Mule which I think included ginger beer and a Dark and Stormy which was the same but with rum. What made both of these drinks so good was they come served in a Copper mug that gets colder the longer it stands, reminded me of drinking lemonade from aluminum cups on grandma's porch. But these Mule's pack a kick as the menu indicates. Nice Irish Pub Feel, great selection of Whiskey. I will definitely go back and maybe try some pub grub too.

Met a coworker for a drink here last night after work. We were both wearing our best suits and i am glad, that seems to be the dress code. Had the feel more of Wall St bar due to all the old money in the place which is not necessarily a bad thing. Guinness was good, not the best the best pour Ive had, but it did the job. May be a good place to meet coworkers who live in the area, or clients after work.

To be frank, I am not a huge Clayton guy. For some reason i always associate it with 30,000 a year millionaires, divorcees looking to hookup or the classic "24 year old working in PR who just finished her 4.5 @ Mizzou/Sorority life". Add in the fact that every time I am driving home I feel like I have a Clayton Police officer on my tail, and i try and stick east of I-70.

That being said, will I go back?????Not on purpose, but if I am out in Clayton for whatever reason, i will push this be a landing area...Make sense?

Last night was my first time at Molly Darcy's and it was rather unfortunate. The party I was with decided to sit in the courtyard, which was a lovely area. And while the menu was limited, in my opinion, I did enjoy the Celtic chopped salad. The little chunks of salami and the sweet but light dressing really satisfied. And the chicken was pulled pieces of the most tender and juicy chicken I've ever had in a salad.

The entire problem came down to the service. Our waiter was friendly enough but at the end of the evening when everyone asked for checks, he would only bring out a few at a time. His reason being that he didn't have enough black booklets for all of our checks. When several people said we didn't need the booklets, just bring the checks, he refused. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I waited a half hour to get my check and when I did it was wrong so I had to wait another 10-15 minutes and even follow the waiter inside to make sure I could just pay and get out of there.

Now, I understand I was with a group of 10+ people but I can't believe it took that long to get a check and pay. While the salad and setting had me happy at the beginning of my experience, the bad service was enough to have me steamed when I left.

Never heard of Molly Darcy's until I was asked to meet a friend there. It's right near Miso which I know exactly where that is. Molly Darcy's is sort of a Irish bar with a decent scotch selection but the beer selection could be better. The food isn't bad. I had a chicken quesadilla and bowl of french fries which were soooo good. I would definitely venture back there in the summer. Nice little patio area and location is prime for people watching.

Ambience is a big part of the appeal of Molly Darcy.  Attached to the Seven Gables Inn in Clayton, it's is a very nice pub replica.  As for comparison to the real thing, I've never been to Ireland, but I've visited a fair share of English pubs. This one is way more fresh and clean, but for most people, that's not what you're after.  I guess you just can't fabricate that 300-year-old pub patina.   I definitely did come away with the opinion that this is a great place to come and meet friends, maybe watch a ballgame and throw back a few beers and some pub grub.  We brought the little one this time, although it's not the greatest place for kids, since it really does have that pub atmosphere.   On this drizzly night, it was just us and a few older couples, so it was no rowdier than the nearest diner.

We had the fish and chips and Guinness Stew.  Both were excellent.  The stew was really just everything I hoped it would be.  If you think you might like something like this, with big chunks of roast beef, potato, carrots and celery, it qualifies as a must-try.  I'm pretty sure nobody in town does it any better than this.   The fish and chips were also very high quality.  The server said they were rated the best in the St. Louis area.  Not so sure about that - I'd have to give the nod to the American Legion hall in Collinsville.  It is quite good, though.  For our daughter, we tried a pepperoni pizza.  The toppings were pretty good, but the crust was pre-made and reminded me of a frozen pizza.  Not recommended.  I also wonder why they would bother to serve pizza with Provel when they are attached to a hotel that presumably hosts people from outside St. Louis.  This just doesn't seem like a good choice to me.

Overall, though, if you're looking for a pub, you could do a lot worse.  I would probably give it 3 starts, but I'll bump up one because that stew was just unbelievably delicious.

Want yummy fish & chips and a Guinness to wash it down? Try Molly Darcys, located in Seven Gables Inn. Good location, yummy food, nice beer list, polite service and best of all for me, it's not too smoky...yet. Seems that people haven't heard of this place. If you want a casual meal a cut above bar food (but still priced as reasonable as bar food), go here and support this joint.
