For what it's worth (since I seriously doubt anyone at Meltdown Molly's is actually reading or paying attention to this review), it is now 5 days after the lava cheese incident. My wife has had to go to our doctor for treatment. She has been unable to eat solid food and had been prescribed a mouthwash for use 4 times a day which contains lidocaine (for the pain) and something like malox which forms a coating over the burn. That was how badly she was burned.
The total lack of caring or concern on the part of Molly MacTrainwrecks makes me furious. This place should not be allowed to serve food. I think a visit from the health department would not go amiss, either.
We go here every time we are in Savannah. Â The beer and ale selection is extensive and the wines are very good. Â We always seem to order Shepherds Pie and it is delicious. Â It's been a few months since we were last there and this time the potion was smaller and the roll that used to come with it had turned into a half piece of tasteless toast. Â If the portion had been the same as before and the roll had been there, I would have given the place 5 stars.
Service was OK and the decor is great. Â Check out the scotches at the bar.
Gotta love a Scottish pub in an Irish town!
Molly MacPherson's already has a ton of reviews... Yelpers mostly heaping love all over them... so I won't detail every minute of our experience or anything. Â I'll just bullet it out like this:
- Great atmosphere
- Good music choices, overhead
- Fantastic service
- Phenomenal beer and Scotch selection
- Good prices (especially for the bar district in a bar town)
- Tasty food
- Clean restrooms
If I tried really hard, I don't think I could find a reason to take a star away from the place... and I'm sure we'll be back in for more!
P.S. - Scotch eggs... Just Say Yes!
We went for lunch. It was super yummy!! I will say that I wasn't impressed by the warmth of the staff or the wait. If you're not in a hurry and you don't care if the server is business only and basically frowns at you... then you're good. I really just care about the food, so I was fine. I had Molly's Favorite which is a toasted turkey sammy with cheddar and granny smith apples. I'm not a huge potatoe wedge fan... but I really enjoyed these. I actually ate all of them. The rest of our ground had the fish and chips, shepards pie and salad. All really enjoyed them.
Review Source:Well, after blowing a head gasket at the Hyatt Regency Vue bar after my friends Scottish themed wedding of a lifetime, where we had depleted our combined repertoire of songs, Â the Celts in us were on the rampage for more craic and hilarity so after some discussion with the excellent staff at the Hyatt, we descended en masse, kilts n aw, at what we were assured was THE Scottish bar in Savannah. Â
Jays the welcome we got could not have been better.  Maybe it was to do with the beauty of the bride, still resplendent  in her tartan wedding dress, or perhaps the rugged handsomeness of the groom and his kilt adorned troupe of fun loving groomsmen, but we had a blast...a total blast. Â
We came to drink, and drink we did, and dance and chat to all the random characters who were here, from college students to old grizzly biker types we dragged them all into our own little party within a party. Â Bartenders were never too busy schmoozing with their locals to serve us strangers and made us feel totally at home.
We ate nothing, given the lateness of the  night, but the atmosphere, the heavy beat of the music from the band and the bustle of a really eclectic group of people gave way to a great night's craic and banter.
Went here on a Friday night. The atmosphere and decor was a typical Irish Pubs. The bartender poured a perfect black velvet and had the Scotch Eggs as an appetizer, they were delicious and the sauce that accompanied the dish was terrific. Now for dinner I went for the Blackwatch burger, I should have went for something more traditional, while the burger had excelled flavor, it was obvious it was a frozen patty. Also had the Guinness Onion Rings and I wasn't even able to finish eating 1, my wife loved them and ate them all!!!
Review Source:My wife and I discovered Molly's while wandering around looking for a place to eat lunch. While standing outside reading the menu, out comes this man to invite us in - complete with full Scottish accent. Turns out it was Daniel, the owner. What a nice guy! He actually invited us in. And we were glad we took him up on the invitation. Great service, and delicious food. And quite possibly the best Guiness I've ever had.
Thanks Daniel!
As far as I'm concerned - a SAVANNAH STAPLE. This place is known by the local's and tourist's alike. You can't get any more authentic than this pub. Truly great Scottish food. Definitely give the Scotch Eggs a try - The service is great too. I feel like home every time I go.
After 9 - it turns into more of a bar scene. Hit them up late night also.
A dive bar in City Market. Really Really loud live band. I think people would stay longer and drink more if the music wasn't crazy loud. We were screaming inches away from our ears just to hear and even then I couldn't make out most of what we were talking about. Like seriously, turn it down... there's no need for music to be that loud in such a small pub.
The wait to get a drink was too long. I don't think I'll go back.
Surliest English-as-a-first-language waitstaff experience I've had in ages. Â Goodlord.
Food? Â Meh. Â I've had better (HERE, as a matter of fact). Â
Meatloaf: Â just say no-hell-no. Â Awful stuff.
Scotch Eggs? Â Why, yes, yes, I'd like more of those, please. Â Boiled eggs, WRAPPED IN SAUSAGE...and FRIED. Â If only we could add some baked beans and cabbage, this meal would be SO MUCH FUN about two hours later in a long car ride home.
Scotch Broth: Â it's beef and barley soup, and it's mighty good.
Reuben: Â yawn.
Mashed potatoes: Â sorry, what? I was napping.
Scotch Cake: Â It was SO BAD, we sent it back. Â Dry. Â Cardboardish. Â Terrible. Â They comped us a free bread pudding, and it wasn't to my liking, although my dinner mates liked it. Â As I explained to them, the cake was objectively just bad food, but the pudding was subjectively bad, as in, a matter of preference. Â I didn't dig the bread pudding, as I thought it too mild and bland. Â
Overall: Â drink here, eat elsewhere.
This is a nice, comfortable bar with a decent beer selection. We didn't stay to eat, but we did hang around for a while and enjoy a few rounds with some friends. Â Overall, I didn't feel like there was anything here to set it apart from the myriad other bars in Savannah, but we had a good time all the same.
Review Source:This was such a gem! Â We stopped off in Savannah on our way to FL, and discovered this place. Â Now, we are planning a vacation up in Savannah just to spend more time in the city and take some friends to Molly's. Â Sitting at the bar in the early afternoon, the bartender was super nice. Â Very awesome top shelf liquor collection! Â We ordered scotch eggs (so delicious) and I had bangers and mash (some of the best I have had, honestly, and I lived in the UK for some time). Â
The only thing I miss is black pudding...
A wonderful surprise! Â
Stopped here a few hours before our formal dinner, and wanted a little something to hold us over. Â What a cute and spacious place! Â There won't be any preying for an open table here- plenty of room for everyone, but hasn't lost that intimate pub feel. Â
We had a hard cider and beer on draught + spinach dip w pita bread. Â Awesome waitress!! Â Such a fun experience. Would definitely return.
Great food, great atmosphere, though they could probably use a few more waiters.
I've been to MacPherson's a few times for drinks and a couple times for lunch and I'll say there are definitely more +'s than -'s. The food is great, even though it took a little while longer than expected and the waiting staff is extremely friendly.
Warning: MacPherson's is known to have a lot of tourist traffic, so it can get busy during lunch when the tour buses are dumping people off at City Market.
I think that "Meh. I've experienced better" is the perfect description for this place. Â
The food was good. Â Not better than any other scottish-type place I've been to but not worse either. Â
The ambience/history was pretty cool. Â
I was pretty disappointed by the service though. Â We came in for dinner on a Monday night. Â There were two other tables seated at the time (three total) and two servers. Â My drink sat empty for about 10 minutes of my meal and the server wasn't particularly friendly when she did finally come over to ask if I'd like a refill. Â
I mean, it wasn't a bad place... but, like I said, "Meh. Â I've experienced better."
My wife and I stopped in here twice during our visit to Savannah. Â We both enjoy good beer and a nice Scotch. Â They quite possibly have one of the largest Scotch selections I have seen. Â We ordered a few appetizers and I agree with previous reviews, the scotch eggs are amazing. Â
Most of all the Bartenders are very knowledgeable. I told him a few Scotch's that I liked but wanted to try something new. Â He was spot on! Â
Great service! Â Great Place!
Only thing that I would change, is make the dining area a little darker and a little more pub like, I was more hoping for something from my travels abroad.
We would definitely go back!
I am going to review Molly's and put it on my Irish Pub list. Â "But it is a Scottish Pub you say?" Â "So what" , I retort. Â The Scots are decent people. Â They are also Celts who had trouble with the Brits just like the Irish and you get the same craic here as in some of the best Irish pubs I have frequented. Â Besides, it's my fugin list! Â I think the Scots deserve a little respect (You know why Scotsmen wear kilts? Â Because sheep can hear zippers!)
We did not get to eat here but will certainly do so the next time we are in Savannah.  The bangers and mash  looked delicious and the guy at the bar raved about them.  (Do you know how copper wire was invented? Two Scotsmen fighting over a penny!)
The bartender was great and she recommended Scottish beers. Â I also sampled their fine scotch selection (Angus was staggering home one night with a bottle of scotch in his pants pocket. Â He tripped and fell in the gutter breaking the bottle. Â Feeling his wet pants he looked to Heaven and prayed that it was blood!)
Attractive use of colors and a simple decor make Molly's a great place to be. Â The crowd was all ages and having fun.
Molly's makes my short list of pubs in Savannah.
Bar none, this is my favorite place in Savannah. Great service, awesome drinks, best Snakebite I've ever had, and some damn fine food. I miss the hell out of it.
If you're planning on getting some food here (and you should), try the following:
Bangers & Mash
Scotch Eggs
Scottish Meat Pies
Blackwatch Burger
Bread Pudding
Otherwise, it's a fantastic place to get together with friends over some drinks. Absolutely my favorite place.
Beautiful place! Loved the atmosphere very relaxed and laid back.
Food: I dug in deep on the menu. I cannot remember the exact name I think it was Scottish hard boiled eggs but they are a beer drinkers friend. They are hard boiled eggs, wrapped in sausage and then deep fried!
Bar stock: They have it seems like as many sipping Whiskey's and Bourbons as you can ask for
This is a pub at its finest.
The best bangers and mash I ever had was at this pub. I was skeptical of how good sausage and mash potatoes could be... but boy was I mistaken. It comes with great stone ground mustard, garlic potatoes and sweet butter for your roll. I loved their sweet butter so much, I used to wonder if they would give me a to-go container of it. The St. Andrew's Steak and Spinach Salad is alright, but once I had the bangers and mash, I couldn't ever go back.
Great staff as well. This is a great place to get a nice meal and if you linger long enough after your meal, it is a pretty popular bar on weekends, often featuring live music.
The haunted pub crawl originates from here, so if you are there around 8 or 9 pm you can usually join the tour for 10 bucks.
There was a point in time when work placed me in the sweltering dredges of South Georgia for several months. Â The only escape from that toilet of a town was the recluse offered by wonderful Savannah, and imbibing at Molly MacPhersons was critical to surviving those few months. Indeed, if it hadn't been for Molly MacPherson's then ole Karim Q. may not be gracing your computer screen at this moment, as he would have likely withered away at some other Savannah watering hole overrun by tourists, Army kids, and artsy design types. Â Yes, there were times when I desperately craved a perfectly poured pint of Guinness, or a black and tan that was mixed well, yet still unmixed, so that you tasted the sweetness of each beer.
Then there's the food. Â Hands down... the...best... Steak and Guinness Stew this cat has ever had. Â One visit I decided to stray from the normal choice and opted for the Shepherd's Pie. Â At that point, having to decide which of the two was better would make my head cave in. Â The rib eye steaks were rock solid too, but don't come here for those... it's not a bloody steakhouse. Â Eat pub fare. Â Ask for extra bread. Â Get the neeps and tatties because you need your veggies. Â It's all damn good. Â If you visit Savannah and skip out on this place, you should be tossed into the river.
After an exhausting day of events, we wanted to go to a low key place where we could grab quick bite to eat without any hassle and landed at Molly MacPherson's.
Great choice as the atmosphere (crowd included) was a no fuss. Wanting a taste of things with the Scottish flare, we had the Scottish Combo (Scottish egg, Guinness onion ring and meat pie) and Scottish meatloaf. Everything we got tasted yummy...as I sit here typing this, I feel like going back and asking for more! The dishes were hearty and flavorful.... and went well with the cup of Guinness on the side.
I am a big Scotch drinker, so looking forward to coming back here soon and trying the flight!
I'm not a Scotch drinker or a beer drinker, so I was a little wary of ordering some drink that isn't a manly man's drink. Â But it was no problem with our bartender Brandi (Brandy?) who was awesome. Â She was a lot of fun, gave us helpful recommendations about other places to visit in town, and was sweet when we ran into her later. Â
We got booted out so they could close for a wedding rehearsal, but of course we had to come back the next day. Â This time I did get a little bit of teasing for ordering wine in a scotch bar, but it's all in good fun. Â I definitely like this place. Â (And not just because we got several high scores on Erotic Trivia.)
My husband is a scotch man, so a stop here was a must.
He had one of the "flights" - sample size tastes of scotch. He was impressed with the selection and enjoyed the adventure. I had a Guiness which was poured to perfection. We had a appetizer sampler, and the Scottish egg is to die for. My husband is hooked. The onion rings were as good as they say and the meat pie was quite tasty. This is a great spot to get a great drink, taste some great pub food, and enjoy the atmosphere. The wait staff was attentive and answered all of our questions...even about the "feckin"
"It's more fun to eat in a pub than drink in a restaurant." Â At least, that is what this fine establishment boasts. Â They could not be more spot on.
Whether you want a rare Highland single malt scotch, a plate full of perfectly spiced shrimp, a tasty piling of bangers and mash, or just a nice Guiness, Molly MacPherson's has you covered. Â The pub has another distinction as one of the few establishments serving alcohol that do not allow smoking.
This is easily one of the 5 best food and drink establishments in Savannah, and is an absolute MUST for everyone.
Molly MacPherson's satisfied a very picky group of high school seniors with its unique charm. The food was wonderful, and while the food was true to its Scottish label, it wasn't too outrageous to try something new.
The service was great. The music playing overhead was amazing. Definitely visit.
Wandered in here for lunch after noting a five star review and was not disappointed. Â There's a great beer selection and the food is fantastic. Â I highly recommend the Guinness battered onion rings, they're made fresh in the restaurant and come with a ground mustard dipping sauce - excellent! Â My BLT and pub chips were just what I needed to refuel for more exploring, and the girlfriend's highland salad was extraordinary with toasted walnuts and big chunks of gorgonzola.
We'll be heading here next time we're in town to try the scotch flights.
My husband and I tried this place on a Monday night around 5:30. It was comfy and cozy. Â There weren't a lot of people and our waitress was FANTASTIC!!! I highly recommend the bangers and mash!! It was so good! My husband had a steak which was also pretty darn good!
I would 100% go back ANY day! This place rocks! I'm craving it now as I type! haha Great place, you wont be disapointed!
