No Stars but could not write the review without rating by "stars" The waiter was high or drunk. The fish was sent back 3 times finally left on table not eaten. The burger was one of the worst, asked for a to go bag and left it outside on the bench. Our beer selections.... out of everything except Coors Light and Bud Light on a Friday night... PLEASE. The place is dirty, don't think the carpet has ever seen a carpet cleaner.

Absolutely dead the two times i've been here, service was fine.

Had burgers and fries each time. Definitely one of the better burgers in Folsom. Fries could be better which is a normal experience for me (i prefer plank fries). They were fairly thick, much better than the McDonald thin fries served at Sam Horne's.

The burger here is much different than the other places in Folsom known to have good burgers (Mandares, Sam Horne's). It dwarfs them, large handmade patty, quality ingredients, larger firmer hamburger roll, looked pretty good visually. Meat could have been seasoned a bit more but less it better than too much I suppose. Nothing a little salt and pepper can't fix.

Menu looks pretty promising. I'll have to try their Rib-eye sometime.

Only negative I could possibly comment on is that they had their music cranked up. Not a problem for me. Pretty varied song selection.

-The Good-
BURGERS: Yes, Yum. Incredible burgers. Order one. Now. Order one for me too.

CHICKEN: Seasoned to PERFECTION. Smothered in cheese in a quesadilla? Yes please. Amazing in every chicken dish? Definitely.

PRICES: Very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Personally, I don't mind paying a little more for quality food and I wish they would raise the prices a bit and hire more staff but I'm ok with things the way they are.

-The Bad-
TIME. Don't go here if you're in a hurry. Trust me though, the food is worth it!

ATMOSPHERE: Well, not BAD but this certainly isn't a place to dress to the nines and take someone on a first date (unless they like dive bar restaurants too). It's a bar. You should be able to tell from the outside or as soon as you walk in what the atmosphere is going to be like. Don't like it? Leave! Don't give a place a bad review because you got bar-restaurant atmosphere from a bar-restaurant. If you go in to a place like Mooney's expecting a ballroom or a "Ruth's Chris Steakhouse" type place, you have a problem.

-Summary-
My visits to Mooney's have been great. Good enough to make me give glowing recommendations to quite a few people. I'll definitely be back!

This may not be the fanciest place but I have never had a better rib eye steak anywhere. It was huge and prepared just the way I wanted it. The place is casual, tables are space nicely (I like that), service is fine, price reflects the quality of the food which is worth every bite and for what it lacks in ambiance it make up for with character and quality of food.

I went to this place because of a My Perks deal. The food was good. We ordered a Mooney Burger and the R.B. Melt. Both were delicious. When we went to use are coupon and we were told this was not authorized by them. A little frustrating but the food made up for it.

This is a great place! The food is excellent, and the owner Denise makes you feel right at home! Remember the place were everybody knows your name??? Neither did I until I had a great Moony's Burger!! This took me back when I was ohhh 9 years old many moons ago and my father took me to this mom and pop place in the Bay Area....same deal the owner came out to talk to us, and the food was great!

If you like a down home place with excellent comfort food Moony's is your place! Like many people said before, don't be in a hurry!! Relax, chat with Denise or any of the great people and enjoy great food with the locals!

This place is Great! Burgers are great and salad's are Great. Great place to drink and eat, end of story. Not going to get great service, but that's OK its part of the deal. Different then the BJ's, Island, Red Robin chain. Don't be in a hurry there it part of the charm.

Went back to Moonies today for lunch. My girlfriendl has been searching for a french-dip sandwich in folsom, with three failed attempts. I tested the claim of the best burger in Folsom. RESULTS: Yes!! French dip sandwich fantastic!!!!! The California burger that I had: Wonderful, and a whole meal!! How can so many places make burgers, but one stands out? They get it done here. It's not fast food. It's really good food. Be patient, chat a bit, this place is the best. You deal with the owners, they make your experience right. This place is fun. When we don't eat at home, we like to go to Mooney's. Good food, great bar, skilled bartenders. We love this place.

Went for dinner...had Porterhouse Steaks and Pork chops. Soup that came with the meals (chicken and rice) was good and the bread that came with it was great. The steak was a bit undercooked (asked for medium rare and got pretty rare)...one of our parties side of mashed potatoes came cold. Pork chops were ok, not great. Overall, it was OK but not necessarily somewhere we would return.

Went here for burgers, twice. Awesome. Went here for breakfast - even more awesome.

Asked about the weight of the burgers we ate there before. Response:

"Oh we don't weigh them, we don't use prefabricated patties like most places, we just make them".

My guess is nearly 3/4 pound, and what an insanely great response to the question! It was almost like "If you have to ask you probably can't eat it".

Straight up Burgasm. After eating breakfast here I had to invent another word for it: Orgastric.

You feel really good after eating here (albeit maybe not so ready to go to work lol!)

Best comfort food around.

Oh heavens, this is bad. The food for the most part was actually good, except for the vinaigrette which was opened sometime in the '80s. People said the burgers were excellent.
The service. Party of 8, I ordered the pork chops with clam chowder. Pork chops came 20 minutes before the soup and they took an hour to get. If I ever set foot in this place again (which I have no idea why I would), I'll go to the liquor store down the street first as it's the only way to get a second drink in this place. We were there way too long because our friends wanted to listen to the karaoke...I hate to admit this, but we were there for 4 1/2 hours and I got two drinks in that time, my plate sat there for an hour and a half, empty, and no one bothered to come by and take it, heck there was an hour we couldn't actually see anyone who worked there. My date ordered the porterhouse and got a steak salad. We had to track the server down to get our checks, which we then went and stood at the bar to ensure we got out of there before March.
I can't believe I left a meager tip.

Don't!.....that's it...just don't even think about going here.
Unless of course:

1) you love horrible service by barely out of high school waiters who haven't been trained in customer service.
2) you like waiting an hour for your food
3) you like to ask 2-3 times for little things; like silverware, condiments, the food you ordered
3) you like a DIVE atmosphere where trailer trash and the seniors from the old folks home hang out
4) a really great burger

We went here on a recommendation (are you kidding me?) because the burgers were good. That, and only that, is why I gave it one star. GREAT burger...if you don't mind waiting 1 hour for it! (I got the mushroom and loved it, although not a lot of mushrooms / my husband got the pastrami burger and said it was just OK, only 2 small pieces of pastrami on top)

Let me just say - I'm not a restaurant snob that has to go to hoidy-toidy restaurants with only excellent service. I love a good dive that at least has good food and shows their customers respect.

Literally, we walked in and the owner was visiting with people at a table and ignored us, then looked over and said "oh, just find a place and sit down". (Not a big deal) We chose a pub table at the edge of the bar and watched the interesting clientele wander in. We ordered, but our waiter never brought our beer, so we had to go find another waiter and ask for it. (not too big of a deal) We sat and waited 50 min. before we finally flagged down the other waiter (did I mention that they only had 2 in the entire place?) and told him if we didn't get our food in 5 min. we were "out of there". (kind of a big deal) He made it happen, but when I asked for silverware, mayonaise, and a fork I literally had to go find him 2 times for the mayo, and 3 for the silverware. By the time I got what I asked for my burger was cold. (THAT's a big deal)

We saw our waiter a total of 3 times: to order, once after about 30 min. (and we still hadn't gotten our food) and again with the bill. When he did bring our bill (and we had to go find him for that, as well - I tell ya, we were never more tempted to dine-n-dash) he asked how everything was and I said "are you KIDDING ME"? I told him the service was horrible (I'm not usually that frank) and his response was "oh, sorry....we're kinda understaffed (KINDA?)... blame it on the economy". To not try to fix the problem, or apologize is really a big deal. Shame on me for not asking for the owner - I would have comp'd our meal.

As far as the food, the meat on the burger is excellent and the burger IS the best in Folsom. (thumbs up to the cook!) The fries are mediocre, as are the homemade chips. I will say we only had the salted chips (basically a thin flat version of the fries) and not one of the flavored specialty chips, so maybe they are better. The review that said this was a great place to romance your wife...OMG are you kidding? The glamour shots of the owner on the shelf, and the subsequent others of her aging through the years with bottles of booze and cigarettes in her mouth don't spell romance to me. And I can't see myself ordered a steak in a place like this...but maybe its really great. I shouldn't judge until I try it, but unfortunately I doubt I'll be back to Mooney's.

A message to the owner: if you can't afford to pay for enough waiters then you shouldn't be in business. After all that - maybe your best bet is to order takeout by phone, and then come in and pick it up and take it home.

BURGERS BURGERS BURGERS
You have to get a burger here. Best Burger in Folsom. They are huge and you are bound to come back again for another! Chances are you will be served by Denise (the owner) or one of her kindly wait staff. Be sure to have a nice beer with lunch or maybe a cocktail with dinner.

This place is a total dive, I LOVE it! So don't waltz in with a nice three piece suit, expecting some high brow "experience" just because it's a "Folsom restaurant." You will be disappointed.

But, if you want a HUGE, delicious, and perfectly cooked burger look no further. This is NOT a kids hamburger. Wash it down with their Mooney's Ale (custom brewed by Pyramid Brewing Co.) unbuckle your belt a few inches and go ahead an undo that top button, you're going to need the extra space if you want to finish your fries!

Definitely good bar food, but don't expect to be out within an hour. The roast beef dip was good and gooey, but just a little tough. The burger was huge and cooked perfectly, although with a slightly cold bun. We weren't convinced there was more than the bartender running the whole shop today. I would definitely go back to try the Western Burger (BBQ sauce and onion rings). Expect about $9 per plate.

My son and I popped into Mooney's for a late lunch/early dinner. We had the Denise special French dip sandwiches. Oh My Word, these sandwiches were freakin' awesome - huge chunks of roast beef, mushrooms, onions, it was literally the best sandwich I've had in years. Service was extremely friendly - a really homey kind of place. Prices were very reasonable. Can't wait to go back.

The best damn burger in Folsom. NOT a place for the fastfood burger goers. I LOVE REAL burgers, you gotta try this place. I've only tried their burgers because for me, thats the only thing thats logical to get at a restaurant like this. Believe me you won't be disappointed. If you're looking at good paired beer, try their Mooney's Ale.

Went for the first time for lunch and was not dissapointed. It was a good day to go cause we got excellent service from the owner (Denise?). I had a gianormous burger that was so good. I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked so be sure not to forget to ask. The fries and onion rings were awesome! We mentioned that we had heard about how wonderful the hand battered chicken strips were that the sweet owner actually brought us each one to try as if we needed any more food. I will definitely be back to try the corn beef and other awesome sounding items. I also want to try out their new Thursday night line dancing!

Well....the food was really good for the price you pay. Huge burgers for the kids and for only $4. But the real reason I go out is not only for food, but for an experience too. There needs to be some training of the waiter/bartender. He seemed like he was never really schooled in customer service. He was nice enough but just lacked the attention to detail that the Folsom restaurant scene demands if you are going to compete.

Again, the food was good. But the place would be great if the minute you come in you are welcomed warmly. Instead, we were kind of motioned to go sit wherever. We had to go grab an extra chair and pull it over. Not a big deal, but just adds to the mediocre customer service.

Did I mention the food? It was good. Water glasses went un re-filled, the service was slow otherwise, and it just seemed that if there were maybe weekly 30' training or some standards in place for the staff to review daily, it would help the customers feel like they were really in a place that cared about more than just the food.

Food taste: 3 stars
Food portion size: 4 stars
Service: 0 stars
Overall: 3 stars

My buddy and I went there for lunch today. There were only two other people in the joint so you think service and speed would be quick. Not so.

We both ordered a burger and a side of fries / onion rings. The positive: the burgers were huge so off to a good start. Plenty of cheese and chili piled on mine so I was excited to dig in. The problem was in that the burger itself didn't have much flavor. I tried just a piece of meat and cleaned off the chili and it was pretty bland. Not even a taste of salt and pepper. That's cooking 101. Another problem was the burger was cooked a little too well for my tastes ruining any natural flavor from the meat. I wish they cooked it less and added Worcestershire sauce to the meat when they made the patties or even a little slat/ pepper.

With such a huge burger, I thought the sides would match. I was disappointed to find only a small handful of delicious fries (seasoned well and crispy) and only 4 or 5 onion rings. It was probably a good thing since I should skip all the fried food especially with the huge portion of chili on top of the burger.

The real disappointment was the service. It was slow and just not that good. Seems like other Yelpers experienced the same so I'm not going to rehash how long it took me to get the waitresses attention so I could get a refill on my drink or a replacement for the bitter iced tea I had.

The breakfasts sound great so I'll give that a try next time. I'll update if it is much better. After all, gotta give every place 3 tries to get things right. Maybe I just went on a bad day. We all have them.

Mooneys is a great place with wonderful atmosphere. I like to go for the karaoke on Friday nights, there are some good singers there and the host is pretty good himself.

The food is excellent. I have been there for breakfast and dinner and the bartender does not skimp on the alcohol in the drinks! :) The service can be a little slow, but the food is worth the wait.

I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting good food and a fun time.

Great job Mooney's. I wasn't sure I should go into this restaurant as it looks a little run down on the outside. The strip center it is in kind of looks shabby and old. The breakfast I had was great. Four of us went in and had great food. The coffee was excellent. The eggs and potatoes were YUMMY. The food came out of the kitchen HOT and delicious.

The service was a little slow but worth it.

I saw two hamburgers being delivered to the table next to and I could not believe the size of them. I ask the customers eating them if they were good and the anwer was YES...

So check it out everyone. You will be surprised. Don't let the outside of the place scare you off!

Here on a Friday night checking out their karaoke. The KJ is very personable and walks the room. A few regulars are excellent singers, as is one of the bartenders. Half the crowd was 50's-60's, age-wise. Although the group of 30-ish young men were entertaining. Enjoyed their rendition of the theme from The Monkees.

My friend ordered a lemon drop margarita. The bartender made too much, so she poured the excess in a little coffee creamer and served it along with the drink. So, my friend was able to refill her drink. Nice touch.

Decided to try this place, have seen up/down reviews so not sure what to expect. Used a http://restaurant.com cert which was no problem.

It was mid-week and the place was pretty empty during dinner, they had decent staff, yet the service was really slow and not very good follow-up (empty water glasses as an example). Place was warm when we entered and a customer had just complained about it, so they decided to turn on the AC (a bit late at that point). Beer was served too warm also.

DW got the meatloaf, she thought it was good, but the veggies were way over cooked. I got the chicken sandwich which was pretty dry and paid extra for the fresh potato chips, which were pretty good.

Another nuisance, was a light near us kept going on and off, it was pretty obvious and we wondered why nobody working there bothered to notice it.

Bottom line, probably would not go back, just wasn't any WOW factor for us.
