OVERALL: 3 (4 for service, 2 for food)
SERVICE: Good. Waitress was excellent with descriptions - concise and efficient. The Server was very friendly and kept bringing us warm bread.
FOOD: Below average and way too salty. Small portions, thus overpriced.
ATMOSPHERE: Hmmm... hard to say since Revel itself was quite sparse on a July Sunday evening....
So, I am thinking that maybe his other restaurants might be better? This was my first time to Atlantic City, and we went to the restaurant before walking around the Revel casinos. Had I walked the casinos before the restaurant, I might have not had any expectations for the restaurant (though separately managed). I guess AC was just not my kind of place overall, and the dinner left a bad taste in my mouth for the overall experience.
We had the Mediterranean style mussels. Only 17 mussels in the pot. OVERLY salty... Belgian frites were not cooked Belgian style; and, the dipping sauces were horrendous. We ordered the Pork Belly Belgian Pizza, which was probably about 4" x 9" (less than half of piece of standard-sized Letter paper) and there were maybe about 6 pieces of pork belly. Again, overly salty. My friend had the scallops, which they gave 4 medium size for $32. They were much better than the mussels, but also overcooked.
I am sure to make everything super salty, so you order more beer.
We were all so thirsty the rest of the night and wondering if they also threw in MSG into their sauces.
Was there during their happy hour on a Monday with a few friends. Â Place wasn't packed and sat at the bar. Â What we had ordered for food and drinks were delicious and would have loved to order more but service really SUCKED. Â The bartender was too busy talking with friends or regulars at the other part of the bar and totally ignored us, Â Paid bill when we FINALLY was able to flag him down. Â Went to the Whiskey bar in the same casino and had a much better experience. Â Would probably give this place another chance just based on the food and decor BUT if service is lacking once again...that would it for me.
Review Source:For a mussel bar, they don't have a lot of options but meh, they're good and that's what matters, right?
Came here to see a band and had some food credits so I checked this place out. The service is friendly and polite. The food was good, bit pricey for what you get. But the decor and everything's nice and you get to see the cooks making your food.
I wouldn't rush back but I'm not saying stay away, definitely check it out if you're in the neighborhood.
Just a review during their happy hour. Â You can't beat the drink and food specials during happy hour. Â Â We had the smoked pork belly and Kennet Square Mushrooms flatbreads and white wine mussels. Â Â They were great. Â They have three or four beers on tap for happy hour. Â Now, the glasses are a lot smaller compared to their regular beer glasses, but I wasn't complaining for $5 beers. Â I liked the Bavik beer the most.
Review Source:walked by the other day and decided to go in and sit for a bit at the bar. Â beer selection was excellent and the bartender very knowledgeable and friendly. Â ordered several things from the menu, all were excellent; pork belly appetizer, beet salad, pork chop entree (can't get enough pork). Â everything was delicious, seasoned well and of obvious high quality. Â atmosphere was fun and inviting and not pretentious at all, which I liked. Â what a diamond in the rough.
Review Source:Ok, it's a foggy Monday night and a large group of librarians who are there for the conference have a reservation at the Mussel Bar. Where do they put us? At the bar. There are a few very long tables in the bar area, and when some of us tried to sit, they told us that those tables were by reservation only. OK, so maybe the group that made the reservation is our group? Â The waitress checks, says no, the librarians are only supposed to be at the bar.
So, you mean to tell me that you know there's a librarian conference, and they call to reserve part of the place, and all you give them is the bar? Right.
Enough of that. We were there from 5-6:30 on a Monday night, not exactly prime time in a place that's completely empty. The Mussel Bar is in the casino at Revel, and that casino was empty. If you can get a parking space 5 spots from the door, you really know it's empty in there.
We were there for Happy Hour. Beers and vodka drinks (single mixer) were 6.00. I ordered a vodka & orange juice, and there wasn't enough vodka in there to make a fly giddy. Mussels were 10.00, and that was the one really bright spot. The white wine sauce was delicious, the mussels were large & fresh, and they were served piping hot in a cast iron skillet with accompanying bread & butter. Yum. Too bad the waitress kept insisting on whisking things away before people were finished.
One of my companions had the Kobe beef burger. 24.00 is a happy hour price? I guess for the Revel it is. It didn't seem extra-special in the least. My friend was not exactly impressed.
We all had a great time talking, catching up and planning our events for the next couple of days. We had to leave to attend the big welcome ceremony up in the conference area, so we didn't stay past the happy hour. We noticed that the three big tables never did have anyone seated there, so their assertion that they were reserved was not true.
OK service, weak alcohol, very good mussels, and very poor planning when it came to a group reservation.
We were here at the Revel for a Microsoft event, and wanted to stop in here for a quick dinner before making the drive back home to Philly. Unfortunately, they don't start serving dinner until 5:30 so rather than waiting 45 minutes, we decided to sit at the bar and go with their happy hour menu. My coworker had the Kobe beef burger, which the waitress told us was rated like #1 in the area and #3 in the state. It certainly looked good and my coworker indicated it was good. I went with the smoked pork belly flatbread pizza. It was good, but nothing to rave over. Our waitress was good and food came out quickly. We were out of there before dinner even started.
Review Source:Context: Â out with my wife, parents and my kids for one of the Mother's Day weekend meals. Â Was combing Yelp for places in AC that are kid friendly and could not get into PF Chang's and abhor the rainforest cafe. Â
Yelp said it was kid-friendly.. Honestly the only thing kids can eat there are the pizzas. Â I'm not buying my 11 year old a 24 dollar kobe burger, sorry.. Â They each had pizzas and the pizzas were ok.
The rest of the food was decent and service was overall very good, our waitress was personable and though busy still engaged us in chit-chat whilst taking care of us.
The beer list is to die for, at least for me, as I really enjoy Belgian brews. Â Gulden Draak on tap - 'nuff said.
Apps were decent, had some nice charcuterie, a couple of caesars, and the pork belly, all tasty. Â
My Dad's Berkshire Pork chop was huge and tender, kinda wished I had gotten that. Â My Mom's steak (hanger) was on the chewy side and a bit overdone. Â Wife had the special meatloaf which was good but a bit heavy handed on the salt. Â I had the mushroom mussels, overall they were good, as were the fries, but I had a couple of stinkers in there. Â
I'd go back with a pack of guys for a bachelor party or a pack of couples for some pre-show or pre-gambling boozing and bar noshing but not a great place for the family (I should have known, it is a bar n grille..) Â
Oh yeah not cheap but not crazy, but I would expect better overall quality and seasoning levels for the price.
I had my birthday dinner here this past Monday. Â We had the Mediterranean mussels, which came with a side of fries and 3 dipping sauces. Â Both amazing!! We had the 52 ounce porterhouse for our entree. Â Cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! Â The beer list is about 3 pages long! Â We even got our second round of beers to go! Â Definitely coming back here next time we're in A.C.
Review Source:A little disappointing. Â I thought the concept and space were good but the quality of food was not on par for the prices. Â The beer selection is pretty good but the bartenders seemed a little inattentive and incapable of handling a decently busy bar. Â We asked the runner for drinks and water a few times as well. Â The food looks good on the menu but fails to deliver. Â The mussels were soaked in butter and the charcuterie plate was a joke! Â The space and concept are nice but I think this place can do better, especially being in the supposed new hot-spot in AC.
Review Source:Had some lunch here while spending the day at Revel Casino in AC. Â Food and service were both good. Â We had a couple of burgers that were very well prepared. Â Great beer and wine selection. Â Too bad we missed the brunch menu since there were some leftover biscuits and gravy sitting over in the kitchen within eye sight that looked amazing! Â :)
Review Source:I really liked the Mussel bar. Â The bloody mary bar is such a great idea. you can put whatever you want in it - olives, bacon, horseradish, celery, and the list goes on.
The oysters were really good. Â I didn't love the ceasar salad, it didn't have much taste and the fried oysters had no taste at all which was dissapointing. Â my friend loved the crab cakes and my other friend loved her sausage gravy biscuit.
A group of four of us came here on a pretty quiet Friday night before heading over to see a concert. Â We were all really impressed with how awesome Mussel Bar was!
We arrived during happy hour, which, sadly, only occurs at the bar. Â (I hate when places do that.) Â The beer list here is great, but that's what you should expect when going to a Belgian restaurant/bar.
For an appetizer, the four of us split an order of the Mediterranean mussels. Â They were awesome! Â The sauce had a kick, but wasn't overly spicy. Â The mussels were plentiful and cooked perfectly. Â I definitely recommend this dish...you won't want to share it!
For entrees, I got the spicy crab & crawfish pepperpot soup while my friends ordered the grilled rare tuna and the braised short rib carbonnade. Â The soup was so delicious! Â If you like spicy, this is where it's at. Â This was very filling, so don't think you'll go hungry! Â There's plenty of fish and mushrooms in here to fill you up. Â I took a bite of the other entrees and they were also excellent. Â The tuna was cooked perfectly rare and the couscous accompanying the dish was flavorful; the braised short rib broke apart easily with a fork and was super tasty. Â Gruyere and mustard aioli - HELL YEAH!
Service here was fantastic. Â I honestly forget our waiter's name, but he was very knowledgeable about the menu and was extremely polite.
I highly recommend Mussel Bar if you're going to be in AC and don't mind spending some cash on a nice, casual dinner.
We intended to go here for dinner one night but we were unfortunately sandstormed and snowstormed into Showboat. Fortunately, we got to try this place before we left Atlantic City and it was amazing! I will definitely look forward to coming back here again.
ATMOSPHERE
Unlike other restaurants in Revel, Mussel Bar is in its own secluded area. The decor is very interesting. They have bottles as chandeliers and light covers. Sitting in a booth is a plus.
FOOD
We ordered the following from the Restaurant Week menu:
- Creamy French Onion Bisque: The bisque was not too salty and not too cheesy. I usually fear that french onion bisque will have too much cheese, but this was perfect. The bread also went very well with the bisque.
- Mediterranean Mussels: My friends liked the Mediterranean mussels better. There were sausage pieces for sausage lovers, but this wasn't my thing. The mussels were pretty fresh and seasoned nicely.
- Spicy Thai Green Curry Mussels: I preferred the Thai mussels because there was a bit more taste and seasoning. I really liked the curry and basil mix, and the peanuts were a nice addition. The bread also went very nicely with both sauces from the mussel dishes.
- Belgian White Chocolate Bread Pudding: The dessert was surprisingly light but still very savory and rich. The sugary crunchy pieces drizzled on the side were a nice accompaniment to the lightness.
PRICES
It was $15 for lunch during Restaurant Week. It was 100% worth and definitely worth trying. You get all the food above!
SERVICE
Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We were in a rush to catch a bus and he made accommodations to get our food to us as fast as possible. He would check in to see if we were ready for the next dish and it was ready within 1-2 minutes. We ended up having plenty of time to enjoy our dessert and we were more than pleased.
LOVED this place! Â We went during a peak time (restaurant week), on a Saturday and a table of 7! Â SERVICE was amazing! Â Our waiter was very attentive, called us by name, gave great meal recommendations.
We started with a couple of flatbreads and cheese / meat plates. Â Recommend both. Â I had the Cave Aged Gruyere Mussels...they have like 5 different versions....and they were amazing. Â A few had steak and enjoyed their dishes. Â The braised short ribs simply awesome.
Somehow we had room for desert - get the cheesecake!
Wine list was decent. Â Beer selection strong.
Ambiance was great! Â We had seats next to the kitchen/prep station and loved it.
Prices were very reasonable! Â
p.s. slots weren't as amazing  ;)
Nice, casual, mid-priced restaurant option in Revel. The décor is cool-gastropub vibe. My boyfriend and I split the white anchovie Caesar Salad.  I expected there to be anchovies in the dressing, but not whole anchovies on the plate! I wasn't feeling brave enough to munch on them.
I also had the white wine mussels with fries. Â The mussels were amazing. Â I had to finish every last one. Â The fries and the accompanying dipping sauces I just didn't care for. Â I washed them down with a decent Belgian beer I was recommended.
We ended with the skillet brownie. Â Nothing special about.
The Mussel bar is a great place for exceptional mussels and very good Belgium beers. Â Been to the Mussel bar numerous times. Â Always ordered the Mussels and have never been disappointed. Â The Beer selection is excellent. Â Also have ordered other items on the menu which ranged from very good to fantastic. Â The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that it can be pricey for the portion size. Â But all in all the food is excellent.
Review Source:Delicious. Â Came for happy hour on Sunday 3-8. Â We ordered the $1 oysters and the short rib bites $10. Â Both were amazing. Â $3 draft beers, we had a choice of a wheat or pilsner and ordered the wheat. Â Service at the bar was good but not great. Â We would come back for happy hour but prices may keep us away at other times.
Review Source:Mussel Bar was great. I went for lunch with a few friends on a Friday. It was empty when we got there, maybe 1 or 2 other tables. The service was good and we got fresh bread right away.
We ordered two different kinds of mussels, the white wine and the mediterranean. Both were amazing. Perfectly cooked, decent size portion, great taste. Â My friends also tried the Ruben and BLT and said they were very good.
One of the best parts though was the amazing selection of craft beer. Good beer is hard to find in Atlantic City, making the selection here unmatched. They had a lot of Belgian beers and a few good American choices as well. The drinks are very expensive, but I wouldn't expect them to be cheap.
I will definitely be returning next time I am in Atlantic City.
Heard that this place was not good from friends, but still decided to try it out for myself and happy I did! Got a table quick, but we did get there late and it was a mid-December Saturday, so not surprising. For some reason we were not allowed to be seated inside, just outside, but no biggy. Menu was totally different than what was shown on the internet, a little disappointed since we had our hearts set on certain items that wasn't on the new menu. Food was delicious! The raw oysters were fresh and the sauce that came with it was different but really paired well with the oysters. One recommendation to get, the spicy crab and crawfish pennypot soup! It is delicious!! Lumps of crab meat and crawfish, a little spicy kick... perfect for the cold winter! We also got the pan seared salmon and wood fired scallops. The salmon was cooked to perfection, not too dry. The scallops were just okay, kind of bland and the texture was weird.
Overall, I enjoyed my dinner! A little on the expensive side, but if your looking for a nice place for dinner for a special occasion, this is the place!
Came here over the summer on a busy Saturday night, so the vibe of the place was jumping and it was super packed. Â However, they were totally cool and honored our reservation exactly on time. Â
Went with my dad, his sig-O and the wife. Â We had cocktails and Belgian beers which seemed to take a really long time to show up and didn't arrive until after the appetizers. Â The oysters were really refresh as a starter course and the fresh bread was just divine. Â The highlight was truly the mussels. Â Between the four of us we tried the white wine, the cave aged gruyere (like a mussel fondue with potato and bacon, mmmm) and the wild mushrooms (with that aromatic truffle cream sauce). Â And of course the fries, ah yeah!
The waiter tried to push some brownie dessert on us, but we had completely stuffed ourselves with bread and fries soaking up the broth the mussels were cooked in.
Definitely a good option while dining in the Revel. Â Not the most expensive option, surely not the cheapest either.
Visited here on a Thursday night. Â The place was not busy, and seated immediately.
As for the food, we had the pepper soup, and oysters for appetizers. Â All high quality.
For the main course, I had the short ribs, and my wife had the swordfish. Â Short ribs were good, although creamy and saucy. Â The meat itself was cooked well.
My wife enjoyed her swordfish, cooked perfectly.
Although expensive, it was a nice meal overall, and great selection of Belgian beers.
Go for the great happy hour deals. Cheap glasses of wine and beer, as well as great flatbread. The mussels were amazing - some of the best I've had in a very long time. They make them in so many different ways for you to chose from.
The design of the place was very cool too! It must have cost 3 million to build out this place, maybe even more. Go here - you will not leave disappointed. I just hope Revel finds a way to succeed and stay open, but from what I've been reading it's not looking promising.
Mussel Bar By Robert Wiedmaier is located in the Revel Casino and resort in Atlantic City, NJ. We popped in for brunch after a long night at the Revel, perfect spot for some people watching and delicious food.
We started with the fried green tomato and heirloom caprese along with the Gruyere biscuits and charcuterie platter. The tomatoes were spectacular as was the in house mozzarella. The green goddess dressing was a nice accompaniment. The Gruyere biscuits were small, tender teases of cheesy biscuit goodness. Perfect with the accompanying cured meats.
The crab cake with egg and the skirt steak finished our table out, along with tart and tasty Moscow Mules. Everything was delicious, cooked to perfection and our service was spectacular. Great atmosphere and wonderful dining experience.
This is better than the original restaurant in DC.
I tried two different mussels: the Mediterranean and the Cave Aged Gruyere.
the Mediterranean is full of pork sausage, tomato sauce, goat cheese, and lots of other great spices. The Cave Aged Gruyere is full of cheese on the shells, Â fingerling potatoes, thick cut pancetta, and lots of sauce. I shared two half portions with my three person family, and it was filling especially with the bread refill to soak up all the sauce. If I stayed at Revel, I would go there every evening.
My dad tried the Cubano which was the best Croque Madame I have ever had, roll with cheese, ham, pork, and a beautiful fried egg on top. A side salad is fresh and great too.
Service was a  nice touch, and the decor too,, hanging chairs, skyl-ighting beer bottles, and an open kitchen.
I am not even sure where to begin... Â oh yeah, with the reservation. Â We had a table for nine people at 930 on a saturday night. Â we waited about 30 mins to be seated, altho i can somewhat forgive this being prime time (they know how to take a reservation, they just dont know how to hold a reservation... and thats really the most important part).
Being the Mussel Bar, a few crustacean orders were made and all were tasty, especially the Green Curry ones... Â but at $30 a piece for a "full" order that had no more than 15 in the pan, a big ripoff. Â of the appetizers ordered, we were missing a pepperpot soup which dismayed me considering those who tasted it really enjoyed it yet most items i had were sub par (and pricey... Â not a good combo). Â A couple pizzas which were deliciously described on the menu ended up being an 8 inch square of dough with 4 inches of toppings on it, another disappointment. Â The appetizer round's only saving grace was the $6 Gruyere cheese with a few sauces. Â I am not normally a fan of boozhy type plates like that, but in this case it ended being the best dish of the night.
for an entree the "special" was my choice, a surf n turf of porterhouse and baked crab. Â they set down a bowl consisting of 90% bread crumbs and 10% crab. Â the steak looked/smelled/tasted nice, but only for the 50% of it that was not fat.
To top off this all around terrible meal, the waiter disappeared with our credit card for a good 10 minutes before returning with the receipt. Â Most everyone else in the group were pretty dissatisfied as well, especially given the $90 each tab we incurred which included only 1-2 drinks each.
stick to the taco truck across the hall.
My husband and I stopped to experience Revel on our way back to DC from NYC. We really enjoyed the casino (and this preggo really appreciated the smoke free environment!) and were hungry enough to give Mussel Bar a try, as it had some of the better reviews in the Revel family.
Food: The menu had a great amount of choices, both food and drink. They were serving Sunday brunch when we arrived so I went with a Shrimp/Grits casserole and my husband had the woodfired scallops over cauliflower puree. Hubby also went with one of the Belgian ales, which he really enjoyed. Both meals were very flavorful, but definitely not a lot of bang for your buck (yes, it is a $$$$ place in pricing for sure!)
Service: Our server was nice enough and did come back to check on us and let us know the food would be coming soon after we had been waiting for awhile. Our orders took a long time even though the restaurant was not super busy. Â
Bottom line: Glad we gave it a go, but would try someplace else next trip.
Let's start with the good...
The food was excellent. We had a dozen oysters (mix) that were incredibly fresh and tasty. Being the mussel bar we got the white wine mussels (full portion) and green curry mussels (full portion) both were unique and excellent.
The not so good.
Service...as we waited for the table we got two martinis at the bar. As the bartenders puts the glasses on the bar he gets bumped by another bartender by accident and spills half the drinks. He acts as if nothing happened and gives me the check. I very politely asked for a couple new full drinks given what happened. I got a fair amount of attitude but we did receive new drinks that were even smaller than the drinks he spilled. $13 per drink. Not cool.
The service at the table was equally bad. We received our entrees before our appetizers and the server insisted that we ordered it as such and therefore that's the way we got it. Who asks for entrees before the apps??? No apology rather the customer was wrong.
The live music sucked, beyond awful.
Bad bang for buck on the portions. I can't imagine how small a half portion of mussels is like...3 mussels? The full portion was not nearly sufficient for $28.
Maybe if the service had been better I would give the MB 4 stars but I was really disappointed. Saving grace was the actual quality of the food.
**We rolled in to Mussel Bar for a late night drink and dessert craving so my review is only based on these items**
+/-
+ good service
+ extensive beer list, lots of craft and served in the correct types of glasses when applicable
+ good ambiance/decor
- the band they had there on Saturday night was terrible. Hootie and The Blowfish is one of those bands that should never be heard of again much less covered. Ban them!
+ the belgian waffle and ice cream dessert was perfection.
+ The full menu looks delicious! Next visit to Revel will have me there for dinner for sure.
