I am not a fan of dive bars, no, however this place has been in Fairfax since 1934! This isnt a bar, it is a piece of history at this point.
The bartender is super friendly and so is everyone else, 99% of customers are regulars.
I have not tried the "Weiser-Meiser"  I dont think ill ever try it but for your knowledge their Weiser-Meiser, which is a jager shot and Budweiser beer back for $5, is their special drink :)

I love dive bars that have an old, musky smell of spilled liquor and cigarettes - and a bartender who has probably been around for just as long. They have a special called the Weiser-Meiser for $5, which is a jager shot and Budweiser beer back, but you can swap out the jager for a shot of Jameson if you're like me. You can always pop into the pizza place nearby to grab a slice and bring it over to watch the game. A generally good place to meet with friends, yay.

We went there only, because it was the best option in the area to watch the superbowl... Probably it was not the best day to be in a sport bar for the first time... The service was not bad, but it wasn't as good as I expected... We just had some drinks and left...

Coked out rednecks instigating fights. You in? Often barricading the bathroom door so they can bust rails of yayo off the toilet seat. Try to come in and get confronted by a sweaty faced grunt.

Still, douche-rags gotta go somewhere, better that they aggregate then spread out. Get your whiskey shots and go.

It's not a grill. But you can bring in your food from whatever fairfax eatery and enjoy it while watching the game. That said, this is one of my favorite bars ever. It's an old timers gin joint with requisite pool table, darts, outdoor patio, and the locals like when u put Sinatra on the jukebox. So keep the riffraff out. This place is well lit and no loud live music, so it's the perfect bar to grab some pints and just chill with friends. The men's bathroom was designed by Ray Charles however, so take care of business before u come here.

Reviewing as a "dive bar" it's got all of the criteria: booze, a few regulars who haven't left their seat since 1982, a jukebox with random gems, pool, darts, and Spuds McKenzie (no joke!).  If you're reviewing it as a bar bar, there will be less stars because of silly things like: someone over six feet tall or 150 lbs. will have trouble fitting in the bathroom, it might not be the cleanest place, sometimes the regulars can look downright sad, it's kind of dark, they may or may not know how to make the latest cocktail craze, you won't find any top-40 from this decade on the jukebox, etc.  But I love the place, it's a favorite of ours and a good place to hang out with friends, knock back a few, and enjoy music you forgot you loved while still being able to carry on a bit of a conversation.

Lots of the people that frequent Nave's are probably not Yelpers.

Nice little bar to stop in on the way to andor from Point Reyes and other coastal destinations.

I always hope to see Phil Lesh there, but I guess he gave the place up when he quit drinking heavily ;-) I heard he still stops in sometimes, so that's something to look forward to, if you're a deadhead...

Despite the limited selection of beers, this is my local. Really feels like home. Great mixed crowd, friendly regulars, and Mr. Nave is everything a bar owner should be.

A fun local bar where I would often run into people I knew in the area, but always ended up chatting with someone.  Friendly bartenders and patrons.  Worth a stop for a beer if you're passing through or hanging out if you're in the area.

legendary watering hole to phil up at while bob's singing. cool off during fairfax festival (it's tits, according to charlie kelly) and hang out in the garden zone with the gremlins and 12-stringers. fat tire used to be a couple doors down (all that remains now is the #28) where chris-I and crew were always up for an elephant sesh.

update: OK, as i read this again, months later, it is so filled with sketchy references and insular allegory that i'll have to translate a bit. phil & bob are members of the Dead, of course, and they've played in fairfax before, many times. were you to see them back in the '60s or '70s, you'd realize that bob's not that great of a singer, so you could go "phil" up on beers while "Playin'" is playing. charlie kelly, legendary marin mountain bike pioneer, actually created a mini-flyer that proclaimed: "Fairfax Festival - It's the Tits". it contained very simple graphics using concentric circles - needless to say it was the most important piece of instant art i've seen since Neckface decided to sell out. Behind the bar there's a mini garden area where locals may appear with 12-string guitars. check the plants for unusual garden items. the most important mountain bike shop in the world used to be a couple doors down - Fat Tire Trading Post. it was located at #28 Bolinas Road, and today, only the address marker remains.  Chris Iokamides used to own the shop, and he also introduced me to an elusive yet dangerously intoxicating beverage, Elephant Malt Liquor. perhaps now you can appreciate all the codespeak.
