Just got home a couple miles from Norm's Place. I was charged $2.50 for my son's Root Beer which was included in his Kids' meal. I had inquired her about the obvious mistake, and she was adamant that I would pay for the soda. And then I thought to myself, "Ok, that is your tip." Moreover, my son and I waited for almost 40 minutes for a plate of Kids' burger and an appetizer. Norm's Place, you need to shape up.
Review Source:Went for a beer, came out exactly 45 mins later with 2 new friends including the owner (Justin) and the bartender (Coach...honest to God not kidding...Coach).  I didn't eat just enjoyed the banter and the excellent beer selection  from draft to bottles.  Norm's is homage to a different time and place...a better one.  Located in beautiful and quaint downtown Danville, it really doesn't get much better than this for a drinking man.
Review Source:I love the food, but I always seem to be pleading for service. Â Two times in a row the same waitress has been snarky and annoyed when taking our order. Â I absolutely hate feeling like I'm high maintenance when I ask for water. Â I know it's a Danville staple, but I consciously avoid because I don't want to apologize for being a customer.
Review Source:Great spot on the off hours when it's nice outside. Sitting on the patio here and people watching is always good but the patios small so if it's a nice day it can be hard to get this prime seating. Also, they allow dogs on the patio which is nice if you bring your pup with you when you're out and about.
Had the tangerine wheat beer which was super yummy. But I hate places where I have to ask for water twice. Asked for a water when I ordered my beer and never got it.
Ordered a small caesar which came in a small soup bowl. Perfect size for how I was feeling at the time but MY GOD there was SO much dressing and cheese I might as well have chugged a bottle of creamy dressing and it would have been the same. Salads are supposed to be healthy not disgustingly heavy.
My friend ordered the Tuna Sandwich and forgot to say no pickles which was apparently a huge mistake as the sammy came with about 20 round pickle chips stuffed in under the tuna. She basically just took the top layer of bread off, scooped some tuna surprise on the bread, folded it and ate it as a mini triangle tuna sandwich, then went after the rest of the tuna with a fork.
Garlic fried were very good and very garlicy.
Service wasn't great even though there were only about 4-5 tables occupied in the whole joint, each with only 1-2 people at each. No stop bys to see how everything was or drink refills. Old ladies behind us got perfect service though. Well if you give me bad service because I'm young and not a proper tipper then I'm going to prove you right. Especially since she didn't deserve more than the minimum 15%. Maybe stop judging your tables based on age/ appearance.
This place is good. Your typical bar but they do offer a fantastic deal on happy hour and also they are dog friendly on the patio! They have awesome chicken wings - super moist and extra crispy and seasoned. Yum! Certainly a good spot to watch a game, have a beer, and stop in with your pup!
Review Source:Really dig Norm's place. Â I've been here at least 4 or 5 times, both for lunch an dinner. Â I really enjoy the food for the most part. Â Garlic fries are better than most, and the wings are pretty darn tasty. Â The signature item most of my friend's get is always the wrap that uses pizza dough instead of a tortilla (sorry, I forget the name). Â It's quite delicious! Â I've also had burgers and ribs, all of which exceeded my expectations.
Prices seem fair for both drinks and food - not a great deal nor overly priced. Â The only item I can honestly say I did not like was the turkey french dip. Â Maybe it's just me, for comparing to a french dip in other restaurants made with beef, but this french drip is incredibly dry and lacking flavor. Â But hey, all experiments can't be winners, right?
Only reason for not giving it 5 stars- it can get really loud inside, making it difficult to have a decent conversation. Â I went a lot when there was college sports going on and the crowd could get a little loud and rowdy. Â Nothing got out of control, however.
I had forgot to review this place! Sorry Norm. Tanks for being family friendly and not too loud like your neighbors. I appreciate the burgers make my kids go to sleep and the mushrroms are to die for. Oh!!!! and So are the garlic fries. Much love from a mom with picky kids. You always do you best to help me settle my kids and feed us fast and healthy fod.
Review Source:This is a very cool place. They have very large size grill and fries. I loved the environment inside. It looked like to me that most people in here know each other. People were having beer and having fun.
Taste of grill, salad, fries was so good. The young lady who was serving us was so friendly.
Come here you will love it
Food is AMAZING. One of my favorites is the Ahi Steam Roller. If you like spicy, this is a MUST. Chicken wrap is delicious and the servers are always cool with substituting a veggie patty in for the chicken since I don't eat meat. I never order wine at bars as I always feel as though the wine selection is on the "safe" side however Norms clearly has put some thought and knowledge into their bar. Fun drinks, diverse beer options...great place to watch some sports and chat at the bar, a place to bring the family or even out for a casual date. LOVE NORMS!!!!
Review Source:My friend and I wanted to meet up and were in Danville, she picked this place on a Thursday evening.... NO THANKS! This to me is not a sports bar, it was family and kids everywhere. Dads in their burkenstocks, moms drinking wine, kids running around with fries and ketchup on their face. The server wasn't so pleasant, tried to have small talk about the food and it was not happening. I got the Fish tacos, very bland in taste. I don't think I would come back here again. if I had kids I would, its bar food, basically, burgers, frozen chicken nuggets and pasta, no thanks.
Review Source:Came with co-workers for our end of year get-together during happy hour. Â My skinnygirl margarita was awesome! Â Tequila, lime and OJ (not the bottled bethenny variety). Â We had almost everything off the happy hour menu (crab cake, onion rings, wings, buffalo shrimp and spinach dip). Â All were tasty, but my faves were the wings and spinach dip. Â The chips are homemade tortilla chips and were a big hit with everyone.
Review Source:I have recently added Norm's to my rotation of places to eat. Â One of my favorites is the Carnegie sandwich. Â It is so huge, you can actually order half a sandwich. Â What is the Carnegie you ask? Â A mountain of corn beef with an equally huge mountain of fresh fries. Â This sandwich will literally make corn beef fans salivate.
Multiple televisions and a small but great selection of beers (they have Racer 5 on tap) will keep you coming back. Â This is a great place to watch the game, or if you sit outside, to watch people. Â For the first timer, you really should have some chicken wings. Â Crispy on the outside, I prefer to get both sauces on the side for dipping and smothering. Â Garlic fries are extra garlicy and the onion rings are very good.
Kids have their own menu, and the chicken strips are excellent. Â Next time you're in Danville, take the family to Norm's, watch the game, have a beer and enjoy yourself.
Great wings and great beer selection!
The wings are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Served with two kinds of sauce (mild and el scorcho!).
Overall a good place to get some food "bar style".
The ambiance is OK, and it feels like the inside of a renovated garage in many ways.
It is a good alternative for decent food when in downtown Danville.
Cool place in a pretty cool downtown area. Not being from the area, I was impressed. I figured I was just in some suburban cookie-cutter but the place has some character. Good beer on tap, decent menu. The onion rings were great but my chicken wings were undercooked, which in turn caused some severe liquid shits. Keep an eye out for the larger wings - I didn't notice they were still kind of raw in the middle until it was too late. Also, if the breading is really dark, double-check the doneness of the chicken - dark breading might indicate older oil, which tends to brown the outside of the food faster than usual, making food look done when it's not.
Other than that, a good spot for a few beers, some bar food and a game or two on TV. I noticed some loud a-hole types in the bar at one point but I think the staff ushered them out pretty quickly (and quietly).
I'll go back if I'm in the area again, just not for the wings.
Norms is another great place in Danville for a chill atmosphere, good food and good beer. It's family friendly and always busy. The patio is great when the weather is nice and the wings are usually excellent (I had a friend say he got a bad batch once but that was the only time I ever heard that).
Ive never had a bad experience here so I have to recommend that you try it for yourself.
Norm's Place was jumping with people post lunch. grabbed a seat at the counter since most tables were occupied. almost immediately, Â the bartendress wanted to know what i wanted to drink. soon after, she wanted my lunch order. rushed service no doubt cuz they busy. she checkiin many times later.
menu: salads, various burgers, speciality entrees, apps.
sampling: hartz burger ordered medium rare(8.95)
-8 oz red  meat with tomato, lettuce, onion & pickles on soft bun. naked burger.  no  condiments added.  only ketchup and french mustard available.  burger was red rare but  not juicy..
*bartendress puzzled i didn't add cheese, quac etc....
-lots of fries that were very crispy. almost burnt. Â Â 3 stars
-liberty ale (5)    smooth, unassuming, no bite    3 stars
on draught:
-service actually pretty good            4 stars
-food kind of average                  3 stars
-only a couple micro draughts available.
So I've just polished off a bowl of lentil soup and debating whether I should also consume the saltine crackers that came along with it.
These things are no more than a bite each but to my surprise, on the ingredients page, it states "Partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil!"
Who knew!?! A harmless little packet of saltine crackers made and distributed by our local trusty friend Kraft Foods North America ;-)
I was hoping I could somehow segue this gambit into my review but I give up, so let's just get to it...
Norms has one good thing going for it and that is location. It's nicely positioned in "downtown" Danville right next to all the shops.
The Kobe sliders were soft and delicious.
I even tried the turkey burger which was a pleasant surprise. Most restaurants screw this one up because they overcook the meat making it taste dry and brittle. Norms turkey burgers are fresh and moist enough to preserve the real taste of the meat.
Waitress was very nice and got us the table we asked for so definitely big props to that.
Another plus is for all the hardcore beer fans get to order Racer 5 beer.
I don't go to Danville often but the next time I'm there, I'm dropping by Norms and I highly recommend you do as well.
I have been living in Danville for a little over 3 years and it isn't until a couple of weeks ago until I finally tried Norm's.
The husband and I came in for lunch on a day when he was working from home. We started with some house made chicken and rice soup that was very tasty. My husband had the French dip sandwich with curly fries and I had the 3 slider sampler with onion rings.
The 3 sliders were of a "kobe" mixture, a crab cake slider and a bbq pulled pork slider. The onion rings were good but none of the sliders did it for us. The taste of the meat did nothing for me on the "Kobe" and the sauce on the pulled pork wasn't very good either. The crab cake slider was good enough to take a second bite of but after that bite, I realized it was a "krab cake" and deep fried with mostly filler than even the fake krab. I must say, the soup was the best part of my meal but am giving this place 3 stars because the husband liked his French dip quite a bit.
If you are a fan of Pete's Brass Rail, Norm's will be a closer second or vice versa. If like me, you could take or leave Pete's you will feel the same about Norm's.
Our teenage cousin is in town again this weekend and we decided last minute to go to dinner. He wanted to go somewhere he could see hot girls (yes, I rolled my eyes when he said that, and I rolled them again while typing it)
Last time, we took him to Pete's, and at first we thought about going back because he was quite impressed with the eye candy view there, but I had heard good things about Norm's, so we decided to give it a try and I'm SO glad we did!
We had such a great experience here. We came in around 6:20 and although there were only 2 people ahead of us on the wait list, it was a beautiful evening and people were lingering at their tables.
Justin (the owner) was at the hostess stand, and right away that was one point for me. It says A LOT when the owner is out there busting his own butt and being a face at his establishment, rather than just the money behind it.
Also, he noticed that we had our children and was really empathetic to dining with kids, and said flat out, "I know you have an expiration on your wait time with the kids" and was totally honest about the fact that it might be awhile and then gave my husband a free beer and a soda to our cousin (who tried to order a beer...dork) to ease the wait.
We were seated about 20 minutes later and our waitress, Liz, was AWESOME. First off she is BEAUTIFUL and our cousin couldn't keep his eyes off of her. He was in teenage boy heaven. Score one point for us cousins for fulfilling his eye candy requirement.
But more importantly to me, she was a great waitress. She was so sweet to our kids, attentive to us, looked both us and the kids in the eyes when we talked to her and just all around everything you want in a waitress.
Also, our little one took a spill off her chair and smacked her head on the table. Justin didn't bat an eye and had a bag of ice ready for her in seconds. He also came around to check on her. That was super cool.
The food was good. Was it a little overpriced? Sure, it's Danville, everything is overpriced, but it was good. Our cousin had the ribs and they were the meatiest ribs I have ever seen. Hubby had the mahi tacos and he's picky about his fish tacos-we lived in San Diego for awhile- and he said they were really good. I had the turkey dip, which was great and the fries...um  YUM!
We will definitely go back. Partly for the food, but mostly for the service and their super family friendly atmosphere and to support Justin and his business.
Good people at Norm's.
We had the WORST DINING EXPERIENCE of our entire lives at Norm's on Sunday.  Afterwards our daughter said  "I told you we should have gone to the Crown".
We arrived at 5 pm and sat inside.  The table of six next to us were extremely inebriated and were shouting profanities, waving their arms around, which was combined with hysterical hooting by the women.  All seemed in their late 30's.  The waitress (even before we said anything) commented  "Are they getting on your nerves - they've been here all afternoon, they're getting on mine."  She said there was nothing they could do.  We had our kids with us as did the large table nearby and after hearing the "F-Word" shouted for the fifth time decided to pack up our food and leave.  I said we wouldn't be back and the waitress replied "Just don't come back on Sundays, it's always like this."
In addition, my food arrived cold, and I was made a new plate. Â In the meantime my family finished their meals. Â They were out of chicken wings. Â We have frequented Norm's in the past, and have hung out longer to enjoy cocktails and beers. Â This was not the case on Sunday and we will not be back.
As we left, I spoke to the drunken table next to us and told them to be more considerate to the people who are sitting around them. Â They said they wished someone had spoken to them earlier and why didn't someone? Good question and good luck with your clientele.
Thanks, Norm!  The food was marginal, the experience was over-the-top awful.  Again, like my daughter said  "I told you we should have gone to the Crown".  It's just across the street and we highly recommend it.  There are many choices along the street, do not choose Norm's.
This is without a doubt my favorite place in Danville. Â I'm convinced that the only reason people still go to other burger joints in town (i.e. Tower or Pete's) is becasue they haven't been to Norms yet. Â Other spots in town serve burgers or sando's that are too bready....NOT NORMS! Â You can tell that they order the better quality food from their vendors.
Lastly, you've got to try the $40 margarita but better have a friend with you! It's HUGE and worth every penny!
Norm's place is THE place!
I'm totally a fan.
Tonight was the first ever karaoke night with Lady K, need I say... it was spectacular!
The scene was a total throwback to high school/college "woooooo" crowds but I digress, it was Danville after all.
I really hope that they keep the 'oke going strong and I will be sure to come back.
Norm rocks, the waitresses rock, they sing and rock it hard core danville style (in the BEST ways possible).
This review is for karaoke only, on Thursday nights with Lady  K. Â
A great place to chill, enjoy the antics of a mixed cast of characters, and have a few chances at the mic. Â
Guinness on tap! Â Yay! Â I'm a happy singer! Â A big beer selection, just about everything you'd want when barhopping in Danville.
Some of the waitresses should honestly quit their waitressing jobs and perform professionally -- really good singers!
Lots of fun, relaxing, and Lady K is really cool as the karaoke host. Â
Didn't try any food, but watched other tables enjoying big platters of appetizers and other yummy things, like onion rings, skewered chicken, etc. Â Our friends ordered a dish I'd recommend avoiding: Â the Caesar salad with grilled chicken... the presentation is a bit off-putting -- an entire head of romaine lettuce, still attached together at the stub where it was cut off from its roots, looking a little worse for wear and not appearing to be cleaned very thoroughly. Â On top the dressing is slathered on, along with big chunks of thickly sliced Parmesan cheese and hunks of grilled chicken. Basically impossible to eat. Â (Is it just me, or do other diners get annoyed with Caesar salads that are not pre-cut ? It makes me feel like I have to do the kitchen staff's job when I go out to eat!)
Barf! I haven't been to much worse anywhere in the area! I took my friend Kevin along because he likes to think he's a "Konnasur" of offerings in Danville. I don't think he is, but he thinks he is, and I just go along with him because I really don't want to upset him.
Anyway.....I go ahead and order this grilled chicken caesar salad. Now, lemme ask you.....what do you think of when you hear that phrase? A huge tasty caesar salad with some chicken that's been grilled, right? W-R-O-N-G! You couldn't be MORE WRONG! What they brought me was this chicken (kind of warm) on top of a head of burnt lettuce. I thought maybe the waiter dropped the plate on his way to my table and didn't realize it. So I asked him, and he says to me, "Sir I already told you it was the lettuce that we grill, not the chicken"!!!!?????
Now have you ever ate a salad with chicken and burnt lettuce? How could I possibly make that 5 stars!
PULEEZ! I'm going back to Pete's Brass Rail.
I am on a short house sit in Alamo, which brings me to thinkin' of all the places I've eaten before..
So, I have eaten here a few times.
Not great service
Not great atmosphere
Decent burgers
If not a bit wanting in the taste department
and in the tempature that you order them department
And not the price department
And not in the fry department
Uh, heard of the twice fry  technique?!
Hmm? Like 325 to blanch, dry
And refry at 375?
Duh,
so they are not soggy and brown
* Note- I so wish that Danville would get over itself
Like, "hello, dahrling!"
Hubby and I are somewhat regulars here. Â I love their food, but their service is really bad and needs major improvement. Â We always had to request our next drink, and they left our table unbussed (one of my least favorite things).
It also really irked me that the server was sweeping underneath our feet and made us feel like *we* were the ones in the way. Â And every time she moved a chair, she dragged it across the floor and it sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard. Â Am I the only one that could hear that?
Hubby also says that their beer choice sucks. Â I'm sure we will be back, but they need major improvement.
