This place holds a special spot in my heart because my boyfriend's whole family has been going here for years.

But, favoritism aside, this is a really great bar. The bartenders are great and efficient, drinks are strong and cheap, and they've got all kinds of theme days, specials, and fun things to do. It's a total dive, but well kept. The patrons are all friendly, and of course there will be a creeper or two, but they go away if you ignore them. It's a bar, you guys!

Of course, I will be back! Where else are we all going to spend Christmas afternoons?

Bar is hard on the nose, bartender is hard on the eyes. Trashy little seedy joint where nothing good happens.

This place is a dive and proud of it.. A lot of the regulars can be rough around the edges but they are for the most part harmless. People that don't like dive type bars shouldn't go to them.  This place has a lot of history and as other reviews have alluded to no pretentions. One thing I like is that I only stop by maybe twice a year but you almost always are surprised by the crowd. There are a steadfast group of regulars that have been coming here for years, but seem to always see a group or a few individuals that break that mold. If your not up tight worth a stop if nothing else to know what you haven't been missing since 1929.

I've avoided this place since moving up here because it always looked sketchy. A few months ago, we decided to wander in--boy were we surprised [we didn't get stabbed!]. It's a dive bar, sure. But the bartenders are all super nice, they've got popcorn for $1, drinks are CHEAP, there are pull tabs to waste your $$,  they have jello shots!, and the bathrooms are clean.

The first time we came it was busy and there was karaoke that was actually pretty good. We ate a lot of popcorn and had fun people-watching. The second time it was pretty quiet, so my friend [who is a bartender] talked with the bartender and they showed my sister and I some random shots [I do not recommend the Tootsie Roll shot]. My most recent visit confirmed my love of this bar! I brought a group of people here--we sang, drank, had jello shots, lost $20 on pulltabs, and enjoyed delicious chips and popcorn. We had a great time and my friends all want to come back soon!

I do recommend this little dive. You might get smiled at or complimented by some guys when you walk in, but at least that just confirms how hot you look. Get over it ;)

this fancy little spot has won a place in my hert.

i am so happy to write a review of little north city butt bar it is ~cute~ and fun! they have a jukebox and i plaid 2 green day songs and 1 blink 182 song back 2 back on it. there was also a punk and his girlfriend who i could tell from looking at were excited to be there. the bar tender was a lady and she made really good drinks esp. beer. i drank 4 rainier beers and i was crunk. (i had drank other things before attending North City Tavern!)

the pool tables were interesting... to say the least. im bad at pool but you know how it goes. practice makes perfect. i did not play pool tho cuz i was too happy. there was a very neat poster for red hook beer whi ch i hate but which had a very cool poster.

picture it: ur own local neighborhood bar complete with pool tables. if you are thinking of this magickal place where "everybody knows ur name" u are prbly thinking of North City Butt Bar. a special place where i think everyone was happy.

HIGHLY RECCOMENDED FOR PUNKS WITH NOT MUCH MONEY cus it was cheap also the jukebox. unfortunately my favorite song "take me home tonight" by eddy money was not on the jukebox but i picked a quiet song instead so i could sing over the quite music the lyrics to Take Me Home Tonight.

go here and do ur thing. get faded and play pool i promise u a night to remember. shout out to carly and ed my loung lizard homies this review is for U!

That's the word and THanks For Reacing!

This was the first bar I went to when moving to the north city, but this bar took along time to even get the bar tender attention to even get a drink and the other customer just starred at me and my boyfrien.  Sorry so now if we want a drink we go down town for a local brew and to hang out with friends.

One of my favorite old school places. This place is a hidden gem, bartenders are always friendly, patrons  always seem ready to welcome a newbie. Rainier pitchers reasonably priced.

I really like this place this bar!. I had only stopped by for a quick drink, and perhaps if you are snobbish, uppity type of girl, this would be to much for you. I happen to be a 39 yr old open-minded, independant type of person. I have not only stopped and had a drink, I played bingo, sang kareokee, and have made many friends here. Those creepy types, I think, have been on the boats out in Alaska for ever, and many have really good paying jobs..Yes, there might be a one odd person there, but I sure get looked after when I now go. Get to know the bartender's they are great. Try the pulltabs and the jello shots...yummmm...

I love dive bars!  And this is a great one a couple of blocks away from my girlfriends apartment.  We like to come here because of the friendly staff, run down nature of the place and its clientele but mostly because my girlfriend likes to play the video game where you look for the difference between the picture of naked chicks.  I cant complain and I wont, Ill keep on coming here for my cheap drinks and naked lady games.

I was meeting up with someone at this bar, and I have never been so creeped out in my life.  The bar itself, is not too bad, it's a good dive, but the breed of people were all sorts of sketchy.  The moment I walked in, there was this old man eying me from the moment I opened the door to the moment I sat down, I didn't think anything of it and sat at a table, I had arrived a bit early, so I just sat, awkwardly texted, opened up a book, and ordered a drink.  It just seemed like a lot of people were staring at me--and I'm honestly not those types of girls that's like "oh, look at me, I'm hot shit".  So the fact that every time I looked up there was someone turned around looking, staring, at me, was weird.  To the point where I thought maybe I had some weird mark on my face, or had something in my teeth, so I got up (took my drink with me of course, WOULD NOT surprise me if someone would ruffie me in this joint) went into the bathroom to see if there was something wrong with my face.  I returned to my table and the old man that was eying me as I walked in came up to me and said I had nice legs, and rambled on all I said was "yeah...uh huh...alright...hah...thanks" and turned around. Super creepy.  I got on my phone and called up a friend, and the same old guy came back up to me and said I had nice ANKLES.  Really? Ankles? He was standing by me for a while, saying  I was beautiful, but I plugged my vacant ear and tried to continue my phone conversation.  The person I was meeting with finally showed up, and I was a bit more at ease.  So, I mean, this would be a cool bar, but I probably wouldn't advise a single, 22 year old female to come here.  The bartender was nice, and the drinks were cheap, but other then that.  No thanks.

A dive bar but a fabulous one! Brenda is the best! Always fast and always chatty--remembers your drink even if it has been 6 months! It is great for people watching too!

The stretch of 15th Ave NE north of Northlake Mall has a pretty nice string of neighborhood bars, from Boud's Pinehurst to the Caroline to North City Tavern. North City Tavern/Lounge has been around since at least 1945, perhaps since Prohibition, and occupies the oldest commercial property in the area (started 1929). Inside it has all the basics of a neighborhood dive -- woody interiors, yellowing old beer promotion lights, and yellowing old regular patrons.

My first vist to the NCT was mellow. On my second visit, the bartender remembered my name. On my third visit, I sang karaoke and recieved a standing ovation. On my fourth, a nice fellow bought me several Jagerbombs... I haven't been back for a while, but when I go, Ill look forward to a memorable experience.

One of a disappearing breed of neighborhood taverns where no one is trying to be someone they're not.....unless its Karoke night!
Generous drinks, two pool tables and a small kitchen with a small menu.  Go sing a favorite song and get the bartender to sing with you. She's got a great voice!
