We love brew pubs. So this is where we headed immediately upon arriving in town on a work trip. First impression: great building, looks warm and inviting. Second impression: nice selection of house brews, two of the three we order (IPA, APA) are very good. Staff are friendly.
And then the food comes. The Black and Tan onion rings are nice, and that's about it. Fries are battered, which is a crime against the potato. My massive blue cheese and bacon flatbread - about the size of two dinner plates - has a nice crust, but the blue cheese overwhelms any other taste while the bacon tastes like it came from the frozen food aisle at Walmart (i.e. completely tasteless). My colleague's pork chop, resting on a giant mound of lukewarm mashed potatoes, is tough and, again, lacking in flavor. Third colleague reports his burger patty is half cold and... you guessed it, flavourless.
So, we leave our plates half finished, pay our bill, and move on, wishing we'd just picked up a growler of the IPA and been done with it.
The only reason this place gets three stars is the beer. The food barely deserves two.
I loved the layout in here, the house is still broken up into rooms so each one feels cosy and unique. They had good unique brews on tap, even cider! There was waitress service even at the tables in the bar which is a plus. We just had drinks but their food menu looked amazing so I hope to return and something out. It was very busy, even with famillies and kids so looked like a popular place for locals!
