Chicago, Rome, New York, Sicily, St Louis with their crazy provel, I've had it all when it comes to pizza. Deep, thin, stuffed, pan, hand tossed. Red sauce white sauce no sauce!
Wasn't impressed at all. Delivery does sort of ruin the experience because things tend to get soggy and shifted, but this was nothing I'd order again.
I went to Springfield for work and in typical fashion needed a place to eat. I wandered into Gallina's and had a great meal. It is essentially a take out place with 12 - 15 booths to eat in. Â Their eggplant dinner was a $5.75 bubbly cheesy plate of heaven. I chatted with Rosa in Italian as she wiped up tables. In true italian form she was incredibly warm and wanted to make sure I was ok walking back to the hotel at night alone. It is clearly a family run affair. I also had a tossed salad and some garlic knots. It reminded me of the food I grew up on in Cleveland's little Italy. What a gem! If you stay at the Hilton or the Abe Lincoln hotels skip Bennigans and give this homey Italian place two blocks further down the road a shot.
