I walked through the building just after they moved out and was horrified with the filth - amazed that they even served food there! I knew there was a reason I could only take one bite of a sandwich I bought to go one day - it made me ill with only one bite. If I knew then what I know now ... can you say "law suit"?
Review Source:This place used to be good but has gone downhill the past couple years. Service has always been hit or miss but it seems to have gotten worse. The entrees are lack luster, although I have liked the brisket sandwich they've added to the menu.
The past few times I have been they have dropped the ball on both service/food. The atmosphere does not make up for this. The whole laid back vibe is kind of a draw for a spot like this but if they started to take running a business more seriously they could be back on top again.
I'm confused??? I mean I left Obzeet confused. What type of restaurant is it again? It says it is a mediterrenean/latin restaurant (which I don't understand the connection) and tropical bar.....so you have mediterrenean, latin, tropical and that doesn't even mention the store attached to it that sells very random items nor does it mention that it is a full-service espresso and desert bar! In addition, it is a live music venue.
Needless to say, there is probably something for everyone at this spot. I went on a Friday night around 10 p.m. The live music was pumping in the front room, but we wanted to eat, so we went to the back room and as others have mentioned the service was non-existent. When we finally got service we I ordered a seafood tramezzino (like a pita pocket) and my friend got a sandwhich. The sandwhich was a sandwhich and the tramezzino was good but nothing to make me go back. We enjoyed the music where we were sitting. The gift store was closed and the tropical bar, which looked nice, was not happening due to rain.
This is when things got exciting...desert! Â They had so many deserts to choose from and all types of coffee drinks. We shared a nutella cheesecak and it was worth the drive there. It was so good. I think it had one of the best selections in DFW.
I think if they would improve their menu and service I could bump it up to 4 stars. If for nothing else, I will come back for desert and maybe for some music one night.
I was with a bunch of friends and we wanted a late night bite to eat, but didn't want to default to IHOP, Denny's, or Waffle House.
Obzeet has an interesting menu, but there's not a lot of variety as well. The pita sandwiches were pretty awesome and you get a decent amount of food for what you pay for.
Obzeet's is our favorite place to go in this area!
If the parking lot is full you have to park next door even though the signs say not to :) I keep seeing parking issues in the reviews but it's not that bad. Def. not downtown bad and it's worth it.
The atmosphere is the best part. The inside is very laid back. One dining room is "diner" like and the other is by the bar. If we HAVE to sit inside, its always by the bar...even if no one is working in it. Sitting in the other dining room can be a bit packed and noisy. As far as the cleaning is concerned, it could use some, but it's an older building and there is constant foot traffic because of patrons and the attached store. It's not bad at all. If your table is sticky ask them to wipe it down. That's not difficult. When we sat outside after a rain the waitress came out to towel dry our seats and table with no issues. Just ask. The outside is the best part. I like to call it tropical trashy, in a good way. Plastic tables, plastic chairs, umbrellas, fake flowers, string lights, beer signs...all my favorites. The koi ponds, waterfalls, and bridges just make it even better! Also, the place has trees surrounding it so you can't see any "city" outside the fencing and walls...just trees and there are always butterflies flying around. There is smoking. There can be children running around. I'm OK with both. There's a bar outside in the back where you will find your Obzeet groupies. I think usually the bartender is the owner's son. I can't remember his name at the moment. Speaking of the owner, she is very nice and very helpful. If you have a problem just talk to her or her son and either of them will gladly help you out. I'm not surprised any complaint emails weren't responded to...she doesn't seem like the email type. In person is best.
The only food I come here for is the Mexican Tramezzino and desserts. We've tried all of the appetizers and nothing is great. I really wish they had a hummus plate. My husband likes to get the salad because he LOVES the poppy seed dressing. I haven't tried too many of the entrees because I just can't bring myself to not get the Mexican Tramezzino. All of the desserts are amazing. You should never come here and not leave with one of them.
As far as service is concerned if you sit inside it is quicker but still not the best. I have no problem with the service because when I come here I plan to spend a while eating, drinking, and listening to the live bands. Don't come here in a rush. If you aren't getting adequate service go find your waitress and tell her so. If you still have a problem let the manager know. I know you shouldn't have to do this but if it comes to it then why not? We go weekly and only once have I ever been irritated with the slowness and lack of attention. We've even been served in the rain.
Obzeet has a lot going for it, but there are negatives that keep me from becoming a regular there.
The poppy seed dressing is so good! I love it! The sandwiches and salads are tasty. Â The bleu cheese potato appetizer is so abolutely addictive, I want to lick the basket clean. The desserts are outstanding - like make me wanna cheat on my diet delish! Peanut butter pie and tiramisu are just two favorites. The outdoor seating area and live music are right out of 6th Street Austin. And that is where the good ends...
The service is consistently bad. Lackluster, bored staff who don't really care. I feel like I am putting them out when asking for basics - yes, I am going to need a glass to pour my sparkling water in. Â The restaurant needs a deep cleaning. Decor, tables, landscape and parking lot are dirty and worn. Mixed drinks are all terrible! Undrinkable. Stick with beer. Wine is always bitter and old...never tastes fresh.
I wish the customer service was more...something. I wish it was cleaner, friendlier. I could love Obzeet, but for now, it is just ok.
I love the atmosphere of this place on the weekends. Â The music and tropical environment give you a gran escape from the city :) The drinks are not very strong here and I believe they are $6 each. Â The food is pretty tasty and I like that it is different. This is a happening Friday happy hour place.
PS Parking is terrible here.
I've lived in the neighborhood for 2 years (moved to D from Chicago). I really wanted to like Obzeet, and I certainly gave it multiple chances. Like other reviews state, the outside space is really nice, albeit a bit quirky. That's what I liked about it.
The food is decent with good prices. Only got dessert once, and that was when i showed the server there were 2 long hairs in my food. He did comp the salad and give us a free dessert. That was nice.
My beef with Obzeet is the service, or in my experience--the lack thereof. We recently went on a Sunday afternoon about 2:00. Seated ourselves (as the sign instructed) on the patio. And waited. And waited. And waited. Finally waved down a server who came over and asked if we'd like menus. Uh...yeah. And water, please. 15 minutes later (and no menus and no water), we got up and left.
I know it happens that things fall through the cracks. I get it. What really irks me is that I emailed the management directly through the website and mentioned what I experienced. We ended up going elsewhere for a late lunch where we were warmly greeted, seated with water and menus on the table before the host finished thanking us for coming in.
I emailed the management (rather than posting a negative experience right away) and expressed my experience and said I really want to patronize Obzeet because of the great, unique atmosphere and good food. My email included my full name and phone number. No response indicates to me that my feedback and experience as an almost-diner are as insignificant as I felt waiting for a menu.
In my experience, good food and a great atmosphere are practically meaningless without great service to accompany. Suggestion - have a host seat guests. That way, they are less likely to be forgotten. Good luck, Obsolete...I mean, Obzeet.
This is a great little Austin feeling spot in the middle of Carrolton/lower Plano.
If you eat here you have to hit the patio or you are missing on the experience. They have live music at night and a good selection of drinks.
The food was good and the deserts are ridiculously rich and HUGE!
Try it, love it, come back with friends my friends.
In the years I've been going here, this place has not disappointed. Went there with my daughter for late Saturday afternoon lunch. Split a salad and tramenzina(sp?). Service was friendly and efficient. Food was very good and fresh. Had the blu salad and the tuna tram. Asked for jalapenos on the tram and they added fresh japs to them. Excellent! Occasionally, wesuccumb to the dessert temptations. They are always so beautiful to look at and when we do have desssert, they are always very good.
One of my favorite items on the menu is the chunky blue chips - potato chips with a blue cheese "sauce". Â
Still need to check out the live music on the weekends... one of these days.
Dessert!
Dessert!
Dessert!
Dessert!
Dessert!
I am a dessert snob. No grocery store bakery crapola, and most bakeries use too much Crisco and knockoff ingredients. I want it to be homemade with top quality ingredients.
Chocolate Eclair!
Chocolate Eclair!
Chocolate Eclair!
Not a traditional eclair, but if you like sweet and creamy, this will do it for you.
I've tried several of their cakes--YUM!
At $6 or $7, it's not outrageous.
Best place for dessert in this part of the metroplex.
The food is okay, not a lot of what I like on the menu. But go here for dessert for sure.
An update, and an upgrade for Obzeet. Â Just had my birthday party there. Â We sat on the patio. Â Weather was great as it grew a bit later in the evening. Â We had some snacks. Â Chips and queso, steak and chicken nachos, and some trammezino's. Â I am still not a fan of the trammezino, but everything else was very good. Â Nachos (of which I am generally pretty blase' about) were great. Â They had chunks of chicken/beef, cheddar cheese, diced red onion, cliantro, diced jalapeno (fresh, not pickled), black beans all very fresh and bright. Â The queso also was great. Â RIght up there with that from Gecko in my opinion. Â The star as far as food was the eclair cake. Â It was amazing. Â I am not generally a desert fan but this was so very good. Â Kind of like a bunch of layers of thin little eclair's. Â God it was delicious!
Service was excellent. Â We had a large, very chatty group of distracted people. Â The waitstaff handled it all like an easy breeze. Â Polite, prompt, and pretty skillfully unnoticed I must say. Â Not one issue, and it was a fairly large crowd as the night wore on.
Now the crowd. Â It's not how I remember it being in the past. Â It was for sure a significantly older group. Â We eventually excused ourselves to another venue, as it seemed we may have been spoiling the tranquil mood of said crowd (we were celebrating and there was a fair amount of loud talking and laughter as we carried on).
They had a nice little blues trio called Rock Blues Band I think. Â Nice female singer, great blues guitarist, and they mixed in a little pop (a number of covers from Fleetwood Mac Rumours stand out).
Overall, pleny of fun. Â I will definitely not wait as long to return. Â Probably with my Husband for some shrimp cocktail, a slice of that amazing cake, some wine, and some decent tunes.
Everything at this place was so-so. It started with my beer, which was given to me in a glass that smelled strongly of that industrial cleaner bars use to clean dishware.
We ordered the spinach dip, which was about 95% cream cheese, 2% tomatoes, 1% herbs, and 1% chopped spinach. Underwhelming.
For the main course I had their BBQ pork sandwich. It was new on the menu and sounded pretty good. The hoagie roll was tasty, soft and warm, but the pork itself was awful. It so dry and hard it could have passed for beef jerky . It didn't help that they poured a metric gallon of sauce on the sandwich--probably to try and inject some tenderness into the pork.
The patio was nice, and my friend seemed to enjoyed her fruity cocktail and pita-pocket thing but in my opinion that's not enough justification to return to Obzeet.
So I have been here twice. Â Not sure if that makes for a good or bad thing for this review. Â The first time I went it was great! Â I had the tuna Tramezzino with their house salad. Â Their house dressing is amazing, I believe it is a Sesame Ginger Dressing, either way it is great. Â Then I had a delicious piece of Turtle Cheesecake that was literally the biggest slice I have ever seen. Â The portion sizes are HUGE since I took home half of my Tramezzino and 3/4 of the cheesecake. Â
On the way out I noticed that they have a funky little gift store inside and if for some reason I was back during the day I would check it out.
NOW...the second time I went (last week) it was a completely different experience. Â I ordered the same entree but it was bland. Â For tuna to be bland and void of flavor is kind of odd. Â Also in comparison the second time the service was not good at all and we were the only table seated. Â I'm not sure that I really know which experience is better for this place since it is a toss up so I may give it another chance at some point this fall...
They have a really great patio area. Â Live music, waterfall, fish pond, outdoor bar...need I say more? Â It looks like a great place to be but a Sunday in July is not it for Clint...too hot.
I won't say don't go...but I would definitely ordering something other than a Tramezzino. Â Also, be prepared to pay for what you get (too much food too much money). Â The prices seemed a little inflated to me. Â
Hope this helps someone to decide.
I like the decor and overall feel of Obzeet, and along with the desserts I've had here, I give it 3 stars. Otherwise, based upon the food and price, I would have given it 2 stars.
It's a very eccentric decor, but it works, and the patio is nice too.
OK, on to the food. It really is overpriced for what it is, in my opinion. Taste-wise, unimpressive. I've had sandwiches, salads there, none really stood out. As for the price, $8 for a grilled cheese? Sure it's on a croissant, but it's grilled cheese.
Regarding service, it's very casual and laid back. On one visit, however, the manager (or owner, I have no idea, she just seemed to be the one "in charge" at the time) gave me attitude about the power cord to my laptop. Sure, it may have been a tripping hazard for the only person in the restaurant (me), but there is a proper way to ask/tell customers.
I come back every once in a while, just to chill out in a different place, but if they would just improve the food I would be back a lot more.
Obzeet is an Austin-personality restaurant in north Dallas. Â I go there with my family for lunch every time I return home to Dallas. Â The patio atmosphere is hard to beat, especially when there is a band playing.
The corn chowder might be one of the best items on the menu. Â I get it every time I go. Â
The menu is pretty solid across the board. Â My family and I really like the Chicken Pita, Chicken Salad Sandwich, Tuna Salad Sandwich, Avacado Tuna Salad, and the Veggie & Steak Tramezzinos. Â The Tramezzinos have a lot of cheese, so if you do not like really cheesy food, then stay away from these.
As an FYI, all the items are served with a decent amount of chips and fruit (cantelope). Â I mention this in case there is sensitivity for paying $10-$12 for a lunch sandwich. Â That being said, Obzeet is still overpriced.
The apricot tea is a really good option to go with your lunch.
The service here is mediocre. Â You get the feeling that they understaff their help to save money because the waitress(es) cover several tables.
I recommend this place, especially if you work off Preston Rd. and want to grab a good lunch.
Okay, the outdoor area is pretty cool. Â They were voted one of DFW's best patios and I can see why. Â Listening to music out there in the summer is awesome.
But... the service is pretty really not great, the food that I've had is not good (and that includes the desserts), and the live music sound on the patio kind of sucks. Â I've had a few sandwiches, a couple pasta dishes and some appetizers and I'm really not impressed. Â Their pasta has always been undercooked and cold by the time I got it. Â The panini sandwiches have been dripping with grease. Â The pita sandwiches fell apart in my hands. Â The calamari was grossly overcooked and rubbery. Â I think the only thing I liked was the chips and salsa.
They have a pretty good variety of chimeneas and lawn art, so if you're in need of yard accessories, go to Obzeet.
I....LOVE...this...place!
For reals! It is most def the randomest place EVER, but that is what makes it greatness. I remember we used to hang here in high school bc there are NO and I mean NO cool places to go in Plano circa 1998 (other than Taco Bueno for the cool kids, of course...Plano kids, you feel me).
This place is an eclectic oasis of awesome in the middle of suburbia. From the street it looks like a plant or lawn store, there is no way to know of the magic that lies inside. When you walk inside, it is a cute cafe with tables and tons of knick knacks available for purchase, including rock salt lamps. Reminds me of Fraggle Rock. Totally retro and cozy inside, but as you pass the insane display case of cakes ( more on that later), you go outside- which is the best part.
The outside patio is HUGE, it has an adorable fountain in the middle, tons of plants and tables and a wood deck. There are Xmas lights everywhere. There is a large bar and a stage area where you can listen to live music on weekends. This place is great to go to sit and enjoy some tunes and have a few drinks.
They do have food here and I am sure it is good, I haven't eaten much of it. The MAIN thing to get here is there desserts! They will give a slice of one of their many fresh cakes on premises that is so big, it is made for sharing. The peanut butter chocolate cake is to die for.
This is one of my favorite "secrets" as someone who has lived in Dallas way too long. Go and enjoy something different for a change!
Being a San Francisco girl these days, I feel a bit at home here... after all it is hard to park and there are hippies galore!
I come here for one thing, and one thing only (no.... its not the rock salt candle). CORN CHOWDER. This soup is knock-your-socks off good. I could and sometimes do eat pounds of it. I highly recommend it to anyone who shares my more than partial attitude towards corn.
The back patio is great too. Great for sipping cocktails or ice tea on a nice day.
I was excited to actually find a place to park (YES!), but signs say you can park at the jewelers now. Â I hadn't been here in several years and when I saw all those silly salt lamps scattered around I was concerned that maybe this place had changed. Â Sitting inside was just okay. Â I ordered a $2 gin and tonic and it was a bit watery, but what do you want for two bucks? Â I didn't order any food, but my friend's looked good.
We moved outside when it got a bit cooler, and the patio is what I like about this place. Â The fun flowers on the fence, the big shade tree over the patio, the outdoor bar. Â Some guy with a guitar and old people dancing to an old song. Â Good times with an old friend. Â
When the guitar guy played "Amarillo By Morning," Â I looked up at the sky and the tree and felt the Texas wind on my face. Â I still love this place. Â Maybe you CAN go home again.
What a quirky fun place Obzeet is! I had no idea they were going to a country theme from like such as the South Africa since it had more a hippie laid back kind of atmosphere. Could South Africa been the Austin of Africa?! Do all restaurants down in Johannesburg sell a bunch of stuff you never knew you needed or wanted? Don't leave without buying your rock salt candle! It'll cure a variety of ailments AND enhance action in the sack! For those of you with the outdoor bathtub setup like in cialis commercials, make sure you pick up a nice chimenea with that salt candle!
Reasons I'd go back: really cool patio and live music. Â The service was spotty but adequate and the food was kind of meh overall. The blue cheese potato chips were a tasty treat though! I had the BBQ chicken Tramezzino as a main course. Not bad, but not really something I'd drive 30 minutes out of Dallas for.
Parking issues can be a bit daunting for the first time visitor. However we were greeted by some hippie dude in the parking lot who told us that you could park in adjacent shop's lots. A couple of u-turns and a short walk later, the car was safely parked in the diamond market's lot. No biggie, but you just need to know about it before you head over there to avoid unnecessary stress, cussing and fist-a-waving (at other lost souls trying to back out of the main lot).
The vibe of this place alone is deserving of its 3 stars IMHO. Â I'll go back if I'm in the neighborhood, I think.
I really wanted this place to be more than it was. It has so much to offer...It just isn't quite there for me.
I ordered a vat of tomato basil soup and it was yummy, but nothing else on the menu enticed me at all. The place is cute outside, but inside it can be somewhat uncomfortable.
I bet on a nice spring day, like today, it would be a wonderful time to sit on the patio with a few of your favorite Yelpers, a nice drink and a slab of the yummy eclair cake. Now, that is worth going to Obzeet for...totally!
This is a hidden treasure. I am in love with the patio. Â The food...not so much, but it is decent. Â The fried olives are quite tasty and there are some amazing looking cakes there (never actually tried any of the cakes but they look awesome), but the rest is just ok. Â
This is a great date place or place to just catch up with friends and enjoy great weather. Â The patio is surrounded with a privacy fence and has fans all the way around it. Â Acoustic music is played almost every night and most of the musicians plays songs you can sing along to. Â Still it is quiet enough to chat and drink. Â Great place!
I came to eat here with a friend of mine because she' had been wanting to stop by. Its very homely and great outback country bar something place. Service is pretty great. I think their hot spot is the desserts.
I had crunchy stuffed olives which we pretty good must say. It was pretty much what I expected. The calamari and rings was scrumptious I must say. I will say they do serve great portions! Steak Tramezzino was also delicious.
Parking is HELL! We parked in the small little fast food place and walked over but it was very much worth it.
Furnishings at  a restaurant?!  only in South Africa.  or...Plano, Texas
Everything about this place reeks of South African Ex-pat. Â And i love it! Â You feel like you're in South Africa, which is...to quote Forrest Gump "...a whole 'nother country." Â There's almost a vague feeling that someone, somewhere, at a table nearby...is trading diamonds. Â i love that feeling!
The sandwich I ordered was not sooper delicious, but i have a feeling that South Africans love it. Â I took a South African girl there - and her mother, later - and they had a great time. Â So...i'm thinking that it's one of those things that the food isnt bad, it's just not what we're used to here in Dallas.
That said, dont go there for the food (which is why I didnt give 5 stars), go  for the atmosphere.  The place has an edge.  Not edge as in "advantage" but edge as in "U2."  There's something foreign and rock-n-roll about the scuffed wood flooring and muddy pond in the middle of the restaurant.
My favorite part is that i can finish half my christmas shopping here. Â Bring your christmas list and you'll find some gifts for others or yourself that will be hard to come by anywhere else.
You almost dont expect to find something this eclectic in the same neighborhood where people seem to have more money than taste. Â Â But, when you leave, you feel like you've travelled a lot farther than preston road.
This place reminds me of why I enjoy sharing my time: Â you get a chance to discover new things - but together.
Oddly enough, Yelp has Obzeet filed under Interior Design...but the secret is that it's a funky little restaurant and bar with a rad patio AND a furniture/home decor shop. (NOTE: The address on Yelp is incorrect. I filed a request to have it changed. It's actually 19020 Preston Rd., near the intersection of the Bush Turnpike and Preston.)
Start with the Chunky Blue Chips. They're kettle chips with blue cheese and pico...and tons better than the twice as expensive version served at Jasper's in Plano. Their salad selection is vast and I have yet to be disappointed. For a real treat, try a Tramezzino - it's their signature dish: a grilled pita bread sandwich with all kinds of yummy fillings -steak, shrimp, cheese. They do offer a few pasta selections, but the highlights here are really the apps, salads and sandwiches.
I did mention the bar, no? They serve both indoors and out - take your pick based on how badly you want to have a deep convo with your tablemates. (It does get loud on live music nights.) Depending on the night, you can clock some really rewarding people watching hours on the patio - the crowd can be, er, refreshingly diverse (wink). Drink selection is a nice mix of bottled imports and fun, girly cocktails.
Now for the key: don't leave without dessert!! It's like a 1950's diner smorgasbord. Â Pies, cakes and lots of other treats - take something home for gosh sakes. You won't be sad you did.
Lastly, don't be deterred by the parking situation - it's not the best. Be patient, pay attention to the signs and you'll be fine. It's worth navigating the lot.
When we can't decide where to go we end up here a lot. Â The food and service is always consistently good.
I am a fan of the chicken pita, it is a nice sized portion served with cantaloupe and chips. Â Just right to make me full but not miserable.
We haven't tried any of the extensive dessert items, but they look awesome and tempt me every time. Â I can't believe I have resisted so long.
Parking can be a nightmare, but it is worth off-roading it in the lot next door. Â Bonus, if you are there on a date and it sucks there is a shop attached to get lost in.
My wife and I tried this place last year around Christmas. I thought the food was way overpriced and really wasn't impressive.
With that being said, it's unfortunate, because the decor is pretty cool. Very eclectic and a great place for acoustic music. We did not experience a crowd, but found the canned music loud that night.
I might try it again. Maybe. But there are other places I'd much rather hang.
I absolutely love this place. This is an eclectic type of venue, so consider going only if you are into those kind of places. It does have plastic chairs and pink flamingos (told you). They have live music on weekends, mixed crowd. Good to go with a group or with significant other. Also has a shop with some home decor and other eclectic things.
Service was good, food was great! Drinks were also good, loooved the cold coffee with liquor. It is not too expensive, but not very cheap either. I think you pay more for the atmosphere overall than just for food. And to me it's absolutely worth the money.
There is an indoor bar and a seating area as well as large outdoor seating area, a stage and outdoor bar. And a koi fish pond. :)
You can seat as close or as far from stage as you like - outdoor seating area is much larger than their indoor seating. So in case you want to have a conversation with people you're with - you can just sit further from the stage and talk freely without having to scream over music. When I go to places like Obzeet I want to relax and have a great conversation while enjoying live music - and it's a perfect place for that!
The only drawback is parking. They have a small private parking lot so in evenings it's difficult to park. But I believe they also have complimentary valet parking on weekend evenings to compensate for the small parking area.
I also go there for lunch every now and then. It doesn't get too crowded for lunch and you can enjoy great food and a book there.
All in all it's an absolute hit and one of top favourites on my list! Go there and check it out if you are a lover of artistic/eclectic places. You will appreciate this great find!
This is an unusual place to eat in Dallas. There's a koi pond! A waterfall! A tropical garden! An attached World-Market-type store!
The menu offers a variety: soups, salads, sandwiches, and their signature Tramezzinos (kind of like a quesadilla, but with flatbread and more variety of fillings), plus coffees and cocktails. I'm partial to the Nutty Blue Cheese Vinaigrette Salad and Corn Chowder.
The big draw is the setting (vaguely reminiscent of a tiki bar), and the attached shop. My mom bought a salt lamp here, which she loves, and I got a globe inlaid with semiprecious stones -- I'd coveted one for years, and they're usually uber-$$$ in museum-type shops, but at Obzeet's perpetual 50%-off sale, it was a steal at around $100.
Obzeet has live music on week-ends, but they do have a cover charge at those times. I have never been then, so I don't know if it's worth the $5 a head. But for lunch on a regular day followed by some shopping, Obzeet can't be beat.
I'll go against the crowd here: Â I am not a fan.
The tables were sticky. Â The service was OK, but a little slow. Â Everything is dramatically overpriced. Â The food is reasonably tasty but overly simplistic; you're struck with the feeling that you easily could have made this at home and you should have since it came with a $12 price tag. Â The two of us racked up a $40+ bill eating glorified quesadillas without even ordering drinks.
The atmosphere is eclectic, but not particularly engaging. Â It feels like someone took an oversized shed, filled it with patio furniture, and called it a restaurant. Â It feels jumbled, not unique and cohesive.
This place is completely random!! It's definitely got a dive-y feel to it - it's in the back of a store (furniture and/or decor maybe?) and they are super big on selling the "salt rock lamps" - there are signs about how awesome they are and salt rock lamps all around. The patio looked cool, but we didn't head out there this time.
I also got the VEGGIE TRAMEZZINO Â but I only got spinach, mushrooms and artichoke hearts, and I added chicken too. Next time I go I'll skip the chicken (I pulled it out anyway) and the artichoke hearts. I think it would have been just as good with just spinach and mushrooms. I subbed the poppy seed salad for one with walnuts and dried cranberries was supposed to have blue cheese but I ordered it with out - it was pretty tasty.
Jenn and I ate here tonight after a frustrating long wait at the nail salon. Â We were just about starving by the time our food arrives, but it was well worth the wait.
I ordered the VEGGIE TRAMEZZINO(tm) Â Pita bread filled with mozzarella cheese and grilled with your choice of fillings: spinach, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and black olives (OBZEET's Specialty) (added chicken). Â Since the Tramezzinos come with a salad, and I am allergic to lettuce, I substituted a bowl of the Corn Chowder for the Salad.
I loved the Chowder. Â It was thick and creamy, but you could still taste and feel the corn and chilies. Â The Tramezzino was awesome. Â I added chicken, but I dont think it really added that much to the flavor, just made sure I was pretty nearly miserably full when dinner was over.
I want to come back here soon, I'd love to eat here at lunch, but the preparation time for our food too a little long for a lunch time visit.
We've had some lovely afternoons this past few days and I was looking for a cool patio to appreciate it. Met up a friend for lunch here and it was a pretty cool place. I like the atmosphere and the service is friendly. I did not care for the apricot iced tea--kind of weird and sour to me. But the corn chowder was nice and the avovado salad was so fresh and I liked the house vinegarette. I love the soft and warm pita they put on the side.
Anyway, this place fufilled my needs and expectations and I want to go back and try some dessert!
A total surprise! Â I didn't know this funky little shop had a restaurant much less a way cool patio in the back and live music. Â
Went for dinner last night with friends and we sat out on the patio near a neat little pond.  I loved the added touches of silk ivy and white lights.  Music is good though it can get a little loud if you are trying to have a conversation.  I split  a Veggie Tramezzino with a friend as I thought it was a lot of food.  We also had some fried calimari and chips and salsa as  appetizers. Neither were outstanding but the Tramezzino was yummy. Wish we had enough room for dessert.  They have 3 shelves of desserts (cakes, pies and cheesecakes) inside and they all looked to die for. I think you can either buy by the slice or an entire cake.  I will definitely be back again.
What a unique stop in Far North Dallas! Â Thanks Richard T. for the heads up. Â Anyway, had a business lunch here today. Â Although not businessy at all, my client is super cool and suggested this dive. Â I say dive, but maybe too many people know about it for it to be a dive. Â I had a great pita sandwich and he had tuna on a croissant, with fresh juicy cantelope. Â It was delicious and unique. Â
The atmosphere is definitely different from any other place around. Â With silk ivy streamed across the ceiling to the bright turquiose colors, it almost feels like a place that would be on the beach instead of at a busy intersection. Â I hear that the weekends are great with live music and people chilling and drinking on the patio. Â Will update when I check that out. Â
Note - parking is a bitch, so beware and be prepared.
Cool place... Definitely a cool place.
So Obzeet Shops sell alot of cheesy cement sculptures... just a lot of weird home decor stuff. This specific location on Preston Road in way Far North Dallas has a way cool Bar/Cafe type place in the back. I've only been a few times... but it's a lovely hidden treasure in N. Dallas worth checking out.
Pretty good food and great coffee drinks are awesome.
