First of all, St. Charles is a great place to hang out.

I went here on a Saturday afternoon with 2 others. The bartender was great, made drinks to special order without batting an eye. All the food we ordered was fantastic! I ate the chicken burger (on special, not from the regular menu), with a chipotle mayo. Yummy! One of the sides offered was a cole slaw, and I'm very picky about my cole slaw. The bartender brought out a sample. I'm glad I got the cole slaw because it's mild juicy flavor was the perfect compliment to the spicy chicken burger.

My companions ordered the stuffed mushroom apetizer and the bacon wrapped dates apetizer. They were also happy with their food.

I will definately go there again!

All I can say is the fish tacos were AMAZING!!
Very big portion with a sweet slaw on the bottom and a spicy
chiplote sauce for on top... Had an awesome caesar salad with
my tacos instead of the fries no extra charge... Looking forward to going back.

I usually get the buffalo chicken sandwich, which would be great if it had a bigger bun to fit all the chicken! It gets kinda messy.

My fav part is that the private room upstairs for parties and meetings is completely handicap accessible with a (kinda hidden) elevator, and restrooms on the same level.

Awesome outdoor patio! Went in for a drink - fantastic BloodyMarys - stayed for dinner! Great place to stop in before a concert at the Arcada Theatre...go early it gets crowed in the bar area!

I love The Office.  It's in my top three St. Charles dining experiences.

Currently (September, 2012) they only have a 3-star rating, but don't let that fool you.  I think this this is due to the rather unforgiving feedback when they first opened.  Yelp really needs to develop a curve to allow brand-new businesses to get established.

Well, The Office has dialed it in.  in fact, I eat there at least once a month--back & forth between business lunches & dinner with friends or family.  The fish tacos are my go-to, but I've tried just about everything on the menu & have never been disappointed.

Jenna was our server tonight & took great care of us.  I tried the Tuna Nicoise for the first time & I'll be coming back for more of that.

I love the patio seating.  Planning a later dinner helps you get a table right away & cuts down a little on the noise from Main Street.

This place is awful. Server was ridiculous - every attempt at friendliness had an awkward quasi-insulting statement attached - "you guys are OLD!" Food was insanely flavorless. I dined with two friends, we all sampled each other's vastly different dishes and came to the conclusion that we all may as well have ordered the same thing. The french fries were passable. For what you pay at a place like this, though - uh uh. But, hey - ain't that huge industrial turbine fan on the patio neat, though!?

Great outdoor patio. I really liked the flaming stone table tops. The service and food were both really good and we loved the 90's summer mix playing.

The Office is a restaurant/bar that is decorated like a library more than an office. They have a decent amount of seating. If you're looking to sit outside on a nice day, you may have a wait. We wanted to sit outside but had to wait, and we were impatient so we ended up eating indoors.

First off, their bar is pretty limited, which was disappointing. I wanted a vodka soda with Absolute...but they didn't have Absolute. So I settled with their special - a $5 cosmo. It was very good, but pretty small. On to the menu - they have your average American food. It was good, not great. I would say half of us liked what we got, the other half did not. Our server was decent, not great. I can't think of any specific complaints...she just wasn't overwhelmingly friendly or knowledgeable.

I would go back and maybe try to sit outside and partake in their drink specials, but they wouldn't be my first choice.

Stopped here for drinks two nights in a row this past weekend.  What can I say, limited nightlife options in the STC.

Love the outdoor patio complete with flaming stone bar tops.  On nice spring/summer nights, the wait for an outside table can be as long as 45 min but just take a seat at the bar and put your name on the list and before you know it you and your party will be alfresco.

I've only had drinks here so I can't vouch for the food.  Oddly enough, they serve sangria.  We enjoyed their carafe of simple white peach sangria ($18).  Delicious but the carafe was filled with so much ice that we only got 2-3 glasses of sangria out of it.

    312.  PBR. Laguinitas.  Plenty of beers on tap.  Magner's ($6) hard cider on ice...perfect refreshing drink.

Service kinda sucks.  At the bar I was ignored by the bartender, she took drink orders from my friend that was standing right beside me and paid no attention to me.  At the tables, it took forever for our ordered drinks to make it to our table.

I'm surprised that the average rating is only 3 stars, when I know they deserve at least  4 stars.

The atmosphere is relaxed and dimmed. Definitely a gathering place. There's enough TV's to watch all the major games but not so many that it becomes a sports bar. The service is attentive and our server really handled the crowd in her area well. The menu is descent, they stick to what they know. I happen to order the Office Burger with bacon and was very happy with my choice.

I would totally come here again if I was in the area.

This place is nice. Kind of a place I expect would be in San Diego, but it's downtown St. Charles.

We opted to sit outside even though it was a tad cold out. The warmth if the wind blew just right from the granite counter tops with the propane fire was nice. There are about 4 fire counters/ tables or whatever you want to call them.

I ordered the reuben which was ok. The corned beef had a bit of an odd taste to it and it was really piecey so it was hard to keep in the sandwich.

Their fries are the best. Hand cut with a great flavor.

J ordered the fish tacos, blackened. They looked really good, and he said they were very good. Nice that they came in a taco holder.

Nice little place with a great patio area downtown St. Charles with free parking right in front of the restaurant.

    Nice menu selection. Would return.

Beer selection was great and service was friendly.  Had we stopped at the ultimate nacho appetizer, this would be a 5 star review - they were SO good.  However, we had the fish tacos for dinner and they were awful.  I love fish tacos and expected these to be delicious based on the nachos and they totally let me down.  Breading was soggy, flavor was off, tortillas were flabby.  Probably would deter me from going back.

I have visited the Office about three times. Everytime I have been here, the food was great, service was great and the price is rather fair. I will agree with a few of the other reviews that the waitresses can act rather inexperienced and screw up little things, however not to the extent that I would give this place a bad review. On my first visit, we arrived past "food" hours, we were starving and begged the waitress to bring us anything. She was able to scare up some chips and salsa and didn't even charge us! I have only really "dined" here two of the three times and I think the food is great. I had the Parmesean Crusted Chicken one time and Fish Tacos the next. No complaints. If you want a nice place with great ambiance, decent prices and good food....give it a try.

I've only been here once, but I think it deserves more than a 3-star average. The beer selection was good, the service was great (granted, it was lunch on a not-too-busy Monday), and the food was pretty good. The veggie wrap thing I ordered was not quite what I was was expecting it to be, but I think the waitress actually did a good job of giving me a little warning - she mentioned that others have been surprised before, so I appreciated that, but maybe they should update the description on the menu then? It was one of the cold wraps with a mayo-y dressing in a tortilla. I don't know what else I was expecting, but anyway it was still good! I liked the fries, and my mom loved the salad she got. We ordered an appetizer too (the hummus and veggies and crackers) which we LOVED, and it was big enough to be a meal for someone by itself! I got to take some leftovers home to snack on later. I'm vegetarian and there weren't a TON of different vegetarian options, but I'd go back for just a beer and that hummus appetizer if I wasn't in the mood for the veggie wrap or a salad.

Good sampling of craft beer styles. Wine list is limited but martini and cocktail menu is inventive and tasty. Bartenders are friendly and attentive even when it's busy. Food has been consistent and good for the price point. Great decor is warm and cozy but not overdone. Mostly 30 something's and a few older folks set it apart from the rest of the St Charles area of college pubs.

Went here on a Saturday night for a work Christmas party a few weeks ago, we were in the upstairs party, there we about 25 of us, and only one server/ bartender- and she was able to do it all seamlessly. No one had to wait for a single thing, she was awesome. I wish I remembered her name.. nice blonde girl who had told us she worked there since it opened...the food was really good the drinks were nicely poured. we wandered downstairs briefly just to see what it was like, and it had very nice cozy decor, and it was packed. If I lived closer to here, I would probably go here more regularly, if even just for the lemon chicken-mmm

Food is good but they tend to be out of certain items often.   Apps are tiny portions big prices.  They have a really cool patio with fire tables.  I'd recommend coming here at least once if you live in the area.

Came here with three friends from high school. The server was quite friendly and let us gab as long as we wanted, continually filling up our coffee cups. The alcohol menu was as long as the food menu. I had the vegetarian wrap, with fresh mozzarella, red peppers, lettuce and asparagus. It came with wonderful fries, too. Definitely will return.

    FIRE TABLES!

    I love fire tables.

What are fire tables, you ask? Obviously, they are tables with fire down the center to keep you cozy and warm on the back patio on a cool night at The Office.

Win. In addition to a great beer selection, an awesome server (Tiffany), and fire tables, the atmosphere is just really cool at this place.

I can't account for the food, as it was just a stop on Girls Night Out, but one I would definitely love to repeat.

    Fire tables...

    Awesome.

I was very excited to hear about this place, I mean a bar called The Office, my Michael Scott'isms could go on all night when given the opportunity, so I couldn't wait to visit. BTW, I do understand that this has nothing to do with the TV show, I'm just quirky that way.

I went at 7pm on Friday night, we did not have reservations so we either had to sit outside, at the bar, or go somewhere else. I mean what bar requires reservations? So we sat outside and ordered drinks which were affordable in my opinion.

For an appetizer we tried the nachos... very disappointing.  The pulled pork was not flavorful at all, the cheese was liquid and grainy in texture, overall they were not good and I would never suggest ordering them. For dinner I had Jamaican Chicken Salad with Mango Vinaigrette. The Arugula was warm and tasted dirty, mango salsa was almost all onion, dressing was tangy but not in a good way, and the chicken was dry... another item never to order. My friend had a burger, they use hamburger and sausage blend, she thought it made the burger too spicy and didn't like that either.

Overall a disappointing bar and grill. I would not suggest this place for food and since I won't make reservations to have a drink somewhere, I won't be back. I had such high hopes for this place to be good but sadly it's not even ok.

I asked for a medium well steak and got medium rare, no bleu cheese on my salad and it came with bleu cheese.  The red potatoes were way overcooked, chewy and bathed in garlic.  Small menu.  The hummus was good.  It is extremely loud and very difficult to have a conversation.  The ambience is really nice and it does have outdoor seating.  Due to the poor quality of the food and the inability to take our order correctly, I will not be back.

I'm not a fan of this place at all.

The staff were friendly but misguided. Instead of having one area where they could be attentive to their tables, they were constantly in and out (to the point that when my table wanted another round, I had to walk inside from the patio and wait for my waitress to start paying attention).

I really like the ambiance, but if you're going to tag "Dining and Spirits" to the end of a restaurant name, you'd better have the service to back up your rep as a bar.

Love this place. It's a casual place to have a drink on weeknights with a service staff that creates fun conversations. Ive come here numerous times with a buddy and had a great time. The food is very good too, esp the pulled pork sandwich.

I'll also mention the bar staff. Hayley and Stephanie created some awesome new drinks for us and just made for a great experience.

I'm a little unclear about these negative reviews. This is a fantastic place if you want to have a pint or a well-mixed drink with some above average food.

Always had a great time here and the bar and wait staff has been beyond reproach.

Very good food at decent prices. The four of us each had something different and each entree was well-prepared and tasty. We weren't drinking and ate inside but we still enjoyed our visit! ;-)
I was a little surprised at how limited the menu is compared to other places, but I'd rather have a limited selection of good, well-prepared food than many 'meh' choices. There were three fish dishes, a couple beef choices and some sandwiches, wraps and salads. Everyone got something they liked!
It would probably be pretty noisy there when they're busier but it was a nice place for a relaxed Sunday lunch. We'll definitely go there again!

Good atmosphere on weekends. Good size drinks as well. Food is nothing to write home about.

The outdoor patio is really cool. If you're in St. Chaz, stop by. I won't rush back, but I won't avoid this place either.

    Gin. Fizz. Martini.
This cocktail has to be up there in my top 5 ever, everrrrrrr.  I actually remarked while drinking the gin fizz that it was so good that I would drink it while hungover.  THAT'S a damn good drink.
The food can take a flying leap..I ate a cpl nachos recently and they sucked.  On the menu it clearly states that they have pico de gallo but when we asked for some, the waitress remarked, "that's weird, we've never had that".  UHMMM..okay.
I stick with my 4 star review because the drinks are so good that I would drink them in a dumpster if need be.

Three strikes you are out!  Ordered the nacho's (with the pulled pork on the side) and what we got was a bunch of chips with a hunk of cheese (white cheese even) melted on top with a glob of avacado (browned) and a glob of sour cream.  Does that sound appetizing to you??

We had them take it back (we were told that the normal cheese  was not grated yet) and it came back the same - but this time with yellow cheese.

Not appetizing - NO GOOD!  I could have done better at home!  Where and WHO is this chef???

The only thing this place has going for it is the outside seating! If you are looking for a place to sit outside and enjoy a drink I recommend stopping here, otherwise TURN AROUND!!!

I have been here twice both times the food was just okay at best. And the second time they were out of more than three items on the menu. It took 2 hours to get our food, and the service was terrible. (But we were given free desserts because the staff knew they were doing a bad job).

Skip this place for food, but stop by for a nice atmosphere and drinks!

We finally got a chance to check out the office the other night. The place is really beautiful inside now, and the outside deck is nice, too. Drinks are okay, although the beer selection is a little thin.

Food is really the letdown here. I suppose it's really more of a bar than a restaurant, but it would be nice to have a cool-looking bar with a great kitchen.

The margherita flat-bread was okay, but there was a weird off-taste to the basil and it appeared to be halfheartedly dried out -- or maybe just old? The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was okay, but here, too, the blue cheese on top had a weird look to it -- I'm hoping that's because it was melted on...

The Lemon Chicken was a disaster. Egg battered, it was soggy and more steamed than grilled. The sauce was one dimensional and added nothing to the dish. Mashed potatoes were waxy, not fluffy at all.

    The fries were great though!

Might stop by for drinks outside some evening, but probably not for dinner again...

The Office is a great place four lunch, just a drink, or dinner. We have eaten there several times, both lunch and dinner, food was fab!!!!! The jalapeño margaritas are to die for! (a must, each vist!). Restraunt and bathrooms are spotless. The outdoor patio is absolutely beautiful, it will be packed all spring, sumMer,' and fall. MUST TRY THIS NEW HOT SPOT, tell your friends, best place in town!

I was very excited to learn of (and subsequently review) a new dining option that had recently opened in St. Charles.  I had previously been to this location when it was McNally's and was looking forward to an evening at "The Office" after a full day at the office.

Let's get the good stuff out of the way first.  The remodel is very nice.  The entire restaurant is clean and well done.  You can tell they spent some money with the build out.  We asked to be seated in the dining room in lieu of the pub area and were escorted to a nice booth.

Beyond that, however, things fell apart for us.  The very first thing I noticed was that the acoustics in the building are horrible.  The restaurant wasn't overly full, but the noise level was unreal.  Almost annoyingly so.  Voices from other tables carried clear across the dining room.  Because of the noise level, everyone had to speak even louder.  The end result is that the noise level was chaotic and uncomfortable.  If you are looking for a quiet evening or a possible date location, this most certainly would not be it.  This left me conflicted because the atmosphere is "nice quiet night out" complete with flickering candle on the table but the aural situation is nothing short of a WWF match.

Our server was a very nice young lady, but she was absolutely clueless.  We asked her for recommendations and she read off just about every entree on the menu.  Water service is not automatic and we had to ask for glasses of water.  A couple of us ordered iced tea, which was a lightly flavored, perhaps jasmine variety that was decent.  Trouble is, all throughout the evening we practically had to beg the server to refill our iced tea.  We had to ask several times to get sweetener.

Our party of four ordered the meat loaf, the mahi mahi, the pork chop entree and I had the buffalo chicken sandwich.

First, two of the entrees emerged from the kitchen, then the remaining meals arrived a few minutes later.  "Disorganized" is the word of the day at this restaurant.

I did not try any of the other entrees, so I will confine the food portion of my review to the sandwich which I had. The chicken breast was most disappointing.  It seemed to be "double fried" which is a common restaurant tactic to pre-fry foods during prep for the evening and then re-fry the item once it is ordered.  The chicken breast was soggy with grease and way over done.  It was placed on a 6" kaiser roll which was slightly toasted.  A few chunks of partially melted bleu cheese topped the sandwich off.  Trouble is, the chicken breast only covered approximately half the kaiser roll...so it was more of a bread sandwich with a little bit of chicken in the middle.  Unsatisfactory on all counts.

The server forgot the french fries that were included with my sandwich but eventually delivered my basket of fries.  The fries were obviously of the frozen variety and were soggy and undercooked.  Another downer to be sure.

I passed on dessert, although another guest at our table ordered the apple pie a la mode.  I shared a couple bites and it was decent.  Another guest has a severe nut allergy and he was more than a touch surprised when he captured a mouthful of crushed nuts in the apple pie (nuts that were not at all mentioned on the menu...in fact, come to think of it, they didn't even have a dessert menu.).  Instead, the server just announced what items they still had, and also what items they were out of.  Seems like they were out of a lot of things.

All in all, a noisy environment with poor management, substandard deliverable and a chaotic experience all around.  I'll be kind and give them one star for the food and another star for the circuses.  Beyond that, this place is a total disappointing mess for me and I will not be returning.

I have lived in St. Charles for 12+ years. Been to all the bars. Been to all the restaurants. SO when a new place opens up I'm excited for something new to try.

This place was previously inhabited by McNallys (which moved down closer to the "bar district" on the other side of the river). The interior kept a lot of the previous architecture. New decorating. More open bar area. But overall same layout. The decorations are nice and warm and inviting. I like the overall ambience of the place.

Now comes the bad part. We were seated relatively quickly but as I looked around I could tell there seemed to be a feeling of chaos. I told my tablemates I needed to run to the bathroom and to just order me a water. Went to the restroom, headed back and no one had even greeted our table yet. We weren't greeted for at least 10-15 minutes.

We ordered our drinks and an appetizer. We tried to order the fried pickles and were greeted with the "we're out" response.... so we settled on the calamari. A few minutes later I looked over at the table next to us and saw our waitress with our drinks asking the other table if they had ordered waters. Her exact words were "I just got yelled at because someone said you guys don't have water"...... really??

She finally pulled her head out of her...... ahem..... and realized they were OUR drinks. She began taking our orders, I was the first to go. I tried ordering the short ribs to which I AGAIN got the "we're out" response.... At this point I was beyond frustrated. I tried to keep my frustration hidden, but it's rather hard when so many things pile up. I asked her to please just tell us what they were OUT of so we could make a decision on what they actually had in stock. She had to walk away and confirm that they were indeed out of the short ribs AND any and all wraps...... being someone that has previously worked as a waitress knowing what is in stock and what isn't is a MUST. And it's a pretty good idea to inform the customers BEFORE they start perusing the menu.

I finally ordered the Margarita flatbread and everyone else put their orders in. A little while later the calamari came. NOT impressed. There wasn't anything special considering how expensive they were.

From the time of ordering our entrees until they were presented it was about an hour. And to make matters worse the girl only brought TWO of the four plates out. So the two proceeded to begin eating thinking that the other two plates were going to be out asap. WRONG. 15 minutes later (After watching our waitress deliver entrees to another table) I finally went to the bar to ask for a manager. The person that came out was a kid. I had seen him earlier in the night fumbling with dishes and overall looking like he was overwhelmed and under experienced.

I told him about the awful service we had received thus far. He went to check what had happened and I headed back to my table (and my food FINALLY). He eventually came over and advised us that my flatbread had been burnt so when the waitress grabbed the two plates and came back for the other two the chefs had thrown the flatbread out and begun a new one. He said that he was going to remove two of the entrees from the bill.......COMMUNICATION WOULD HAVE BEEN KEY! If the waitress had simply communicated this then there wouldn't have been any frustration or anger on my part.

The food..... was MEH. The margarita pizza was a flatbread with mozzarella cheese slapped on, shredded basil and cherry tomatoes cut in half and thrown on.... not impressed at all. I've had MUCH better at other places. (for one I usually think of margarita as tomatoes chopped into relatively smaller pieces)......

When all was said and done we were there for almost 2 hours..... WAYYYYY too long. Mind you we wanted to kick back and relax a little, but this was just WAYYYY too long.

AND.... NOTHING was removed from our bill (it was only once we got home that we realized this)......

I really have no reason to go back as the service was awful and the food was mediocre..... Usually I can give a place a higher rating when the food is just OK if the service is really good.... but BOTH areas failed miserably....

Tried out this new place on a Saturday night at 8 pm and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table- but that was the only negative. The hostess and waitress were friendly, and the waitress was very attentive. I had the sangria to drink- it was good.

Now for the food- I Tried the fried pickles as an appetizer and loved them- very lightly fried so I could still taste the pickle. I had the pulled pork sandwich for dinner with the slaw- both were fantastic and I would highly recommend them (I tried some of my friends fries and they were also delicious). I loved the cute plating as well. Wanted to have dessert- but they were out of the one I wanted.

I would definitely check this place out- but maybe on a weeknight if you don't want to wait!

Beautiful space, nicely done! The patio will be fantastic when the weather gets nice.
The outdoor pizza oven turns out delicious flatbreads (and I'm sure pizzas, although we only had a flatbread app. from it on our first visit). The BBQ chicken pizza flatbread had the right mix of flavorful BBQ chicken and carmelized onions, plus a crunchy crust. The calamari app. was fresh and fried crispy, not greasy.
I had The Office burger for entreé and the meat was fresh and not greasy, cooked to medium doneness.  The hand-cut fries served in a mini-fryer basket were delicious.
Our server was very friendly as was the hostess.
The service/kitchen was a little on the slow side, but I'd chalk this up to it being so new and getting the "quirks" worked out.
Well done! Congratulations to The Office!
