As an adult (NOT old!)... I enjoy going to the movies without having to wait in line to rush into the theater and grab crappy seats. Â I prefer paying a little bit extra, to reserve the exact seat I want, and then walk in a few minutes before it starts. Â
Oh, and don't forget the beer/wine/food in your hand while you watch.
It's a step down from the elaborate CineBistro... making it just right for everyday movies (as opposed to "splurging" for a special premiere)
I have been here a few times and never had a good experience. On the weekends it is crazy busy, and I don't like to be charged $2 extra for the good seats.
Crowds and cost aside, the preselected seat model does not seem to work very well. It encourages people to come late to the movie. Like 10 min after the film has started people are still climbing down the full rows to find their seats, fumbling, and spilling food on people. These distractions make me cranky. Â I prefer when people who come in late just find seats at the ends of rows or in the front and don't bother everyone. That's just me, but I rarely show up late movies. If I did, then having preselected seats would be a terrific convenience.
On top of the usual chaos, the last time I came to this theatre there was mayhem because they accidentally sold seats to multiple people. The attendant spent a good deal of time dealing with these discrepancies. But ten minutes into the movie once people were seated and catching up on the plot, yet another couple came into the theatre to find that their seats were sold to someone else. This sucked for me because I had to listen to them as they tried to understand that no one "stole" their seats and for them because they didn't have seats waiting for them.
Based on my experiences I give this theatre two stars purely for their location, the fact that they have a bar, and their comfy seats. The only reason I ever come here is for its convenient location near some great restaurants.
Perhaps if it is not a busy night (aka if you go during the week) this theatre is wonderful, but on the weekends it is not what I would call a pleasant moviegoing experience.
The top reasons why this a 5 star movie theater for me are: (1) preselecting seats online, and (2) I can have a beer during the movie. Â Everything else other than those two things are just nice extras that make my experience at Paragon even better!
Not stressing about seating and getting my drink on during my movie are great, but so is the fact that if you get your ticket validated, parking is only $2.00!!! Yes, $2.00 parking... at the Grove... at any time! There's also a bar you can hang at and have some drinks and food if you so please. Â It has big screen TV's and ample seating. Â The ball n chain and I grabbed some beers and nachos and watched the Heat game until it was time for our movie. Â Good times! Â Also, ticket prices aren't bad either; they're comparable to other theatres of the same caliber.
The one negative is that there is NO action in The Grove anymore. Â People just don't flock here like they used to (I'm circa 2000 - College Night! Wooooo - for those of you that remember those days!), so if you're looking for a bustling atmosphere, you're not going to find it here. Â
But the movie theatre itself is an A+; I definitely recommend it!
I would not recommend this theater. They allow large groups of patrons to loudly enter the theater 45 minutes after the movie has begun. Â There should be a policy that if you are a certain amount of time late, after the movie start time, your assigned seat is forfeited and you are not allowed to make four rows of people stand up in order for 8 late-comers to find their assigned seat in the dark. An usher should have assisted. Â The large party who caused a raucous should have been directed to view a later showing of the movie. Â The manager was understanding, retroactively, and offered free movie passes to patrons who had their movie-going experience ruined. However, the fact of the matter remains, I did not recuperate my cost. Â The underlying problem lies in the overall policy of the movie theater, and nothing was done on the movie theater's part to prevent this unpleasant experience.
Review Source:I am still a huge fan of their spacious movie rooms, comfy seats, and how you can reserve seats in advance. However, my last visit to Paragon was highly disappointing due to the lack of service and drink quality at their Lot Bar & Lounge.
My friend and I visited their bar last Saturday, since we were 30 minutes early for our movie, so we decided to order libations/martinis from their menu. I thought it would be a quicky and easy visit, since the bar was nearly empty, but it took a good 25 minutes for our drinks to come out. I am not sure why, but the manager of the Lot had to come out and apologize for the delay. It was such a long wait for drinks that could be easily made, and when I received my pineapple upside-down cake mimosa, it was below room temperature, and it did not even resemble a pineapple or pineapple upside-down cake taste. I was highly disappointed!
For $7 (not including tip), I expected so much more besides a warm glass of cheap champagne. It also made me wonder if they gave me any drink they could so that I would not have to wait any longer. I hope not!
Their movie theaters and setup are awesome. However, the service and drinks at their lounge and bar need extreme work!
They also need to get some minor details fixed. My friend and I were watching The Hangover 3, and everyone's tickets read 3D. Unfortunately, it wasn't 3D, so an usher had to stand by the door and get everyone's glasses. It was a bit of a minor fiasco.
Great remodel but horrible service! Its no wonder they have a living social!!!!! First off my girlfriend and I called to see if we can watch the Great Gatsby and they told us to come in. We drove all the way over herd and they told us no, I asked about the VIP theater and the guy in the front didnt even bother explaining it. I will never come here again, even if I get free tickets!!!
Review Source:Not at all what I expected. Â I bought a livingsocial for this theater. Â I called ahead of time to make sure I could watch the movie I wanted to with the livingsocial. Â I asked if I could reserve my seats over the phone and she said no I had to come in person.
I arrived at the theater for them to then tell me I could not watch that particular movie. Â I explained that I called earlier and a lady said I could. Â After arguing and speaking with the manager I was finally able to get my tickets for the movie I wanted. Â
However, from that point forward the guy attending us was extremely rude. Â We did not appreciate it at all.
This is my favorite theater to go to. Paragon opened a few years ago & gave a huge facelift to a once aging theater location. This theater now matches the quality of the CocoWalk area it is located in. The hallways are decorated with posters & art & there is also a nice bar to sit at for a drink & some food if the typical concessions are not your thing.
I have been to Paragon at least 10-15 times in just about every screening room & found all of them to be well maintained. The staff is always friendly & management is visable in the lobby at just about all times.
I really enjoy getting to choose my seats ahead of time so that if I am late I don't get stuck with a bad spot. I also like watching movies in the VIP screening rooms since they have such nice chairs.
Another big plus is the theater will validate your parking which brings the garage cost down to just $2-$3 I believe. Overall, it is a very nice theater with a great staff & I will continue to give them my business whenever I go to the movies.
went to theater twice, one to watch a movie and another for a prescreening.
Theater has a full bar attached. Seats are a bit annoying that when you stand the arm rest is not the best thing to help you up. Its your typical old theater but still better than the neawer chains. Great worked and can even have a bottle of wine purshased from the bar in the theater.
This place makes you feel like you're not in Miami. Seriously. All natives, even tourists or your primo from Ft. Lauderdale knows that people down here are outright RUDE. However, step inside the Paragon Grove theaters and you're transported to a time when patrons were treated like KINGS. I swear I must of been greeted with "Hello, welcome" a billion times- and all sincere. It was a truly a pleasure to go to the movies here. First of all, this place has a bar. Beer and wine only but the choices are good with lots of microbrews which I was impressed with. Secondly, you can eat in the theater, you choose your seats online, did I say they were friendly? This place revived the movie going experience for me- I doubt I can ever go anywhere else!
Review Source:The best thing about this theatre is that you can pick which seats you want to sit in when you purchase your tickets. Yay!
What does this mean? Well, for me it means: I can have lunch or dinner beforehand without having to rush our meal out of fear that if we don't finish with enough time to get to the theatre 30 minutes before the movie starts (just to get good seats and sit in the dark through countless commercials) then I'll be relegated to sit either in the front row or in separate rows away from my friends, or date. :-/
The staff and management have always been pleasant and accommodating. Â The theatres are clean and don't have the musty theatre smell other places have. Concession food is overpriced, as with other theatre chains, but being able to miss the commercials and arriving to a packed theatre with the seats I want waiting for me is a huge convenience.
Parking in the garage doesn't induce claustrophobia and the theatre will validate your parking.
I LOVE PARAGON 13..................... However...............
So I finally got to experience the famous VIP Premier Seating and Lounge, and what a bust. I definitely find it as ridiculous as drinking beer with a straw or having a soup on a hot summer day.
To start off, the seats are snug, hard, uncomfortable. They are covered with maybe leather, most likely leather imitation, which makes everything more stiff than it should be. Â The irremovable tray on the side of the seat doesn't make anything better. It constantly gets on the way, making the seats the most uncomfortable in any movie theater.
The lack of comfort and stiffness is reflected in the attendees at the theater. The crowd is a tough cookie to crack and the vibe is of "uber" tightness. Their eyes follow your every move as you walk to your seats, as if you entered a murder of crows. After reaching my seats, I felt like if I was expected to chatter up my seating neighbors, or introduce myself to the attendees. Just odd.
To add to the excitement, I ordered a beef quesadilla at the bar. What a ripoff. Burnt tortilla, Swiss cheese inside, and no sour cream or pico de gallo or anything. Seriously? Is this from the frozen food aisle? To add insult to injury, they tried to sell me a glass of coke, a glass, not the illegal 16 Oz plastic cup. Really? Who wants to go in the dark with a glass? And no lid? Are you kidding me?
It puzzles me how this type of service can flourish. I know a lot of people like it because the theater was full, all 24 seats or so. But really people? Do you have night vision that enables you to cut your food in the dark? Are you wearing jewelry and heels in the pitch black? Is the robber of the Castafiore emerald in the audience? Are we in the presence of the Queen of England? It just makes no sense. No sense.
I feel so bad giving the Paragon Theater a negative review but unfortunately, the service is just not there.
I've been to the Paragon twice so far and used a Deal Saver coupon. ($20 for 2 tickets to the Prestige Theater and 1 appetizer) The Prestige Theater is their new more upscale theater room, sort of like the Cine Bistro at Dolphin. The black leather love seats are very comfortable. The bar and lounge area look great too. I would give it five stars if the service was good as well! In my first visit, I had placed an order at the bar for my appetizer that came with my deal (I ordered the quesadillas). They gave us a beeper and let us know when it vibrates our food would be ready. We take our seats at our movie and waited, and waited, and waited. Over an hour passes and we never received our food. I had to make my boyfriend go outside to the bar to see what was up with our order. He comes back and lets me know that they had forgotten about our order. Oh, okay...? A man (who I later found out was the manager) came to us to tell us that the kitchen had closed already. Furious and trying not to make a big deal and cause a scene in the middle (or more towards the end) of the movie, I told him I'd talk to a manager after the movie. He left, and came back with free tickets and apologized for the inconvenience. After the movie I saw the manager to discuss the fact that I had purchased a deal that included an appetizer that I never got, and he let me know that I can use the deal again for the appetizer (His name was Luis).
Second time at the theater, I have my deal ready to order my appetizer at the bar. There is a line of over ten people also waiting to have their orders taken. Bad part is, there's only two bartenders. The bar was full, the lounge/restaurant area was full, the line to order food was full, and there is no service. This is what I don't understand. If you promote a business on a page like Deal Saver, why, why, why wouldn't you have the service? It was a Sunday night and the theater was packed. WHY would you only have TWO employee's working?! Every person in that area was as frustrated as I was, including the poor two employees. One of the employees went into the kitchen and slammed his fists on the door before going in. I can feel how overwhelming it is to deal with an entire restaurant with no help, but you CANNOT show that frustration to the customers. Very unprofessional. There was a girl sitting at the bar that seemed to be an employee on her day off, sipping on a drink. The frustrated guy who hit the door earlier looked at her and said "Really? You're just gonna sit there?" After she finished her drink she began taking our orders. I felt bad that she was taking orders on what seemed like her day off. After that, it took them over ten minutes to find a pen for people to sign their receipts. Really? You don't have a pen at the bar? They went as far as inside the kitchen to look for a pen. I almost signed with my eyeliner! A customer asked if they can play the Heat game (They have huge TV's at the bar) and the employee said they couldn't find the remote. I arrived at the movies at 6:30, and finally sat down JUST in time for the movie at 7:15pm. This really seems like a management problem. A packed theater NEEDS to have more employees working (especially on a Sunday, everyone goes to the movies on Sunday!). I felt like I was on an episode of Restaurant Stakeout. If I ever decide to go again, I'd hope they hired more people. This new theater and lounge has so potential to be a hot spot at the grove. The crowd is not teenage, annoying Dolphin Mall kids so it is a great ambiance. I just really need the service to be there.
This is the best movie theater in miami! You can pick your own seats and the staff is friendly. One time we had free movie pass for two but we forgot to print it out and the manager was so nice he helped hooked us up with passes for being loyal customers. Definitely my theater of choice in Miami.
Review Source:I've been to Paragon Grove 13 many times but recently they started making you select your seat when buying your ticket. When we go to a movie theater, we usually like the seats in front of the rails that guarantee you an unobstructed view and a place to put your feet. Unfortunately, with the Seating Chart at the Ticket Booth and impatient line of people in back of you, it was nearly impossible to identify those seats from the chart. So we get to the theater and the rows of seats have less visible row numbers than the American Airlines Arena or the Arscht. So we end up doing what I never do, we'll just sit anywhere, the theater is not very crowded. Sure enough, for the first Sunday Afternoon Show, the last four people to enter the sparse theater want to move us out of our seats. For a serial seat jumper, that's not an issue but for me, the only thing worse is those last minute movie goers that want to re-arrange the seating in the entire theater because they arrived late. The next time I go to the Paragon Grove 13, I will be studying that Seating Chart!
You pay a little less for parking in the garage with a validation at the ticket counter.
I never came this place before the renovation, but I did hear about how awful it used to be. And even though I've done it at home, being able to drink beer and wine while watching a movie... at the movie theater is awesome. SO I welcome this place with open arms.
You can also pick your seat in the theater so there's no rush to get in. Something other parts of the country have been doing for years, by the way. And this system makes total sense... why be rewarded by your pushing and shoving into the theater and into that awesome seat, if you showed up half an hour late? This way, the first folks are able to get those seats because they actually decided to not eat crap and get someplace early.
To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is unacceptable.
By far my favorite theater in Miami.
The sound is SUPERB as they have the dolby system in every theater room.
The seats are super comfortable and on top of that you can choose the location of your seat when purchasing the ticket.
Inside the theater there's a cafeteria where you can purchase drinks & food; those can be taken to your seat.
If you live in Miami, you know that movie theaters can be a harrowing experience (enter: screaming children and aggressive chongas). But that totally aside, this place is awesome--in fact, we didn't have any of the two factors above.. win! What really makes this place great is that IT'S COMFORTABLE. The seats are nicely spaced and the aisles aren't cramped so at no time do you feel like you're about to give your neighbors a lap-dance as you scurry back to your seat.
It's really clean, the screens are huge and the sound is the best in Miami. What I particularly love about it is that they've turned the main hall into a little art gallery so you can see pictures of old Miami as you walk through-neato!
Oh and it's stress-free because you can buy your ticket downstairs without lines at one of the kiosks and reserve your seats while you're at it. Lastly, if you're in a rush to grab a quick bite before your flick, don't scramble--they've got everything you need inside, either at the concession stand or their lounge--including coffee! Then when you're done, just hop right out and you've got the whole grove to explore to top off your night--perfect for an outing with friends.
This is our favorite movie theatre...ever! I refuse to go to any other theatre - Cine Bistro included.
You never have to worry about lines, you can purchase your tickets at home and pick your seats, and simply show up a couple of minutes before the film starts. You dont have to worry about getting bad seats or having to wait an hour and a half before a major movie starts.
This theater also includes a beer and wine bar, and you can enjoy these drinks while watching your film.
I'll say it - BEST MOVIE THEATER IN MIAMI, HANDS DOWN.
I used to love going to the movies, but bad experiences, with large crowds, unruly teenagers, overall cleanliness and seating situations has really pushed me away from the good old dinner and a movie. At one point I preferred waiting for it to come out on NETFLIX.
However, a chance encounter with PARAGON totally changed my view on catching a flick. Recently I went to watch the newest Batman - and once again PARAGON came through.
We picked our seats at home, so no need to get there 2 hours early to get good seats. I pick the ones behind the designated handicap spots, because I like to put my feet on the bars - yea I'm that guy!
The seats are amazing. The recline, they are comfy, and they seem to me larger than regular seats.
My favorite part of it is that the place is ALWAYS spotless. No popcorn on the floor, seats or isles. They really take their time cleaning up - which for me, says alot about the staff.
They have drinks available should you want to enjoy an adult beverage while you enjoy your movie. Beer and wine can make that comedy all the more hilarious.
We saw Batman at 3:00 PM on a Saturday - MATINEE PRICES! For only $8 each we got a seat for the hottest movie out, in what I deem the best theater in town. NOT BAD. It's competitively priced with other - less quality - theaters at about $11 per ticket for night time showings.
Go enjoy a nice dinner at one of the many restaurants in the Grove, then head to Paragon for a movie. The good old fashioned, dinner and a movie - you know like our parents used to do. Except here the seats recline, they sell booze and the movies are in HD ;D
Paragon Grove 13
I have been to this theater a few times, and they always hit the mark. The associates are very welcoming and they seem like they actually enjoy their jobs. They interact well with one another. I am not a beer drinker but my friends LOVE that you can take beer with you inside the theater. The theaters are kept very clean. At the time of purchase you can choose your own seats, which is always a plus. If you want to save money go during the day, during the week; Movies are about $5.00.
There were only two things that kept this review from being five stars. The seats; yes they are comfortable and larger than your average theater. However, the fact that they went really far back annoyed me. I like to sit up. Another thing, while the bathrooms in the front were impeccable, the bathrooms in the back were not. They seemed to have been somewhat neglected. I ended up walking to the very front of the theater to use the restroom. Even with that in mind, my experience was great and I will be taking a trip over to the Grove soon.
Yes! Going to the movies with no more lines, knowing where you're sitting in advance, beer, food, and comfortable seats. This place is great.
Without a doubt the best this theater has to offer is being able to reserve your seats in advance. You can pick up your tickets from the kiosks in front of the elevators on the 1st floor. no more lines, No more sitting in crappy seats, no more "are you holding this seat for someone?" and no more getting to a popular film 45 minutes early to ensure you don't need physical therapy for a bad neck. Â The seats themselves are comfortable and offer movable armrests for cozying up to your date.
The wine bar is a good hang out if you get to the theater early or would like to hang out afterwards. Even better, there's an open theater next to the bar with tables that you can hang out in and watch sporting events or movie previews. Another plus is you can take your beer or wine with you into the theater.
The only thing that would make this place better is the ability to taser obnoxious movie goers or the people that sit in your seats and then pretend they didn't know they were in the wrong place.
I went here for a Gilt City event to see Rock of Ages. After waiting in line for 45 minutes, I was informed (to my great disappointment) that the theater was fully booked and that we could not see the show. My friends and I were all decked in  80s gear with nowhere to go!
Luckily, Backlot Wine Bar came to our rescue. They offered us a few rounds of free drinks and appetizers to enjoy as a sort of consolation prize...and consoled we were. I'll take eating and drinking over a movie any day!
Can't say that I love this theater. Â In theory, this place sounds awesome but I've been there three times and each time it's been a huge disaster.
Here's my history:
1. I was excited to go the Paragon for my first time because I had heard such great things and I bought tickets to see The Town. Â It was a half full audience for an 8:45 showing. Â We all waited patiently until I looked at my watch and it was already 9:15! Â I was upset and walked to the usher outside and they checked the projector and the projectionist was not there. Â The whole staff was clueless what to do next and they were so rude to everybody. Â They then didn't refund our tickets with cash but only with movie passes for another time. Â I just wanted my fucking money back! Â I don't want to return to a theater whose employees don't show up for work when there's an eager paying audience waiting below spending their hard earned recession dollars to keep that douchebag Ben Affleck rich.
2. I went last year to see Scream 4 with some random girl that I was dating at the time. Â The theater was empty and we pretty much had the place all to ourselves. Â At one point the usher came up to us during the movie and told us to go back to our original assigned seats. Â I looked at him in disbelief that he's got nothing else better to do with his time. Â He then got the clue and wandered off back into the darkness.
3.  Recently attended a movie premier and was given tickets earlier by the film's publicist.  The theater was overcrowded and I had to watch the film  standing up in the back leaning against the wall.  The staff was clueless and they just didn't make anything better for all the guests at the premier.  Everybody that night complained about such awful service.
Ok, so that's my story and I have no idea how people love it. Â I haven't tried the food but I'm sure it's just reheated stuff off the Chili's menu.
Went there for a private screening of "Do it in Post" by Rob D. (fellow yelper)!
I hadn't been to the new theater in Coco Walk in like forever but was pleasantly surprised! Â The private room where Rob showed his movie felt so comfortable and private. Â the couches were really comfy. Â My friend and I ordered drinks and we had the hors d'ovres provided by Rob which were pretty good. Â My favorite were the southwestern type rolls. Â
I really liked the place a lot and can't wait to go see more movies there!!!
Came here to support Rob D and his DIIP screening...I was pleasantly surprised on how well put it was. They even put a little menu together along with the munchies Rob had set up for us to enjoy while watching the movie. The server was super nice, and stayed on top of everything. I gotta give them a super thumbs up on those comfy couches...I could have stayed there all night.
Overall, not a bad experience for this particular type of event. Nicely done!
Make no mistake...Paragon is no Cinebistro.
No comfy couches, no in theater room waitstaff or ingenious slide-able tables. Â
However Paragon is WAY less expensive. Â Plus you can still pick your seats, the chairs are pretty comfortable and you can bring your drinks into the theater! Â
The Backlot bar is also pretty cool and they have a decent selection of wines, beers, and munchies. Â And considering that Paragon cost the same as all other regular movie theaters, its really a no brainier :)
I total, I have been to paragon twice. The first time, my experience was nice.
We took a bottle of wine on ice into the theatre with us which managed to make a not so good movie (in my opinion) pretty enjoyable.
However the second time I went my experience was not as pleasant.
although it was a friday night and the theatre was way more crowded than the last time I was there, that does not justify the poor/unorganized service
In total we were a group of 5, we ordered some food and drinks at the restaurant and gave them our seat numbers so it could be taken to us in the movie.
Long story short, inly 2 people got their food, we had to make like 3 trips back and forth to find out about the other orders.
Finally one more plate came out (the food was not good and not worth the wait) the two other plates never came
All in all I would return, however I will just drink
Classy Movie Theater ? Ummm Yes!
Teeny Bobbers?? No!
Drinking Wine before / during the movies? Yes!
Real Food and Appetizers at the Movies? Yes!
Great Experience? Yes!
Paragon Grove is a classy movies experience. It was my first time here for a screening of a movie hosted by Guilt City. It has a great atmosphere, located on the 3rd floor of Cocowalk, you can get your parking ticket validated in the movie theater and parking comes out to just $2.00!! Yep :)
The Chairs were comfy, and I felt welcomed. The manager told us they are applying for a liquor license now. I dont know how to feel about that, hopefully it's a good thing for business as long as guests dont get rowdy in the movies. LOL Theres also a large room for parties and to watch football and basketball games. Perfect for private parties as well.
Paragon is definitely my favorite place to go see a movie, especially if it's a weekend night. Â It is a step above all of the other theaters in town (except Cinebistro but Dolphin Mall is a hell hole). Â I love ordering Korbel splits to enjoy while watching my movie surrounded by adults in small-ish theaters with great sound. Â Assigned seating gives me more time to stock up on my Korbel and snacks. Â I wish the little concession stand down the hall would stay open, I would definitely sneak out and get more bubbles, the main concession is too far, I don't want to miss the movie!
I ate at the Backlot once, it was just ok. Â The waiter was overwhelmed and it took way too long from beginning to end. Â The food was just so so. Â But it is very convenient if you're running late, hopefully it's not always so slow. Â They have a really cool theater attached to the Backlot that shows sporting events and other stuff, that is an awesome spot to hang out with friends for sure. Â They have a good beer and wine selection, too. Â They even let us take our bottle of champagne into the movies in an ice bucket!! Â Don't forget to validate your parking stub for the Cocowalk garage, I think it's $2 for 4 hours. Â Especially convenient if it's raining.
I love this place!! Â So nice to have it so close to home. Â Comfy chairs (with assigned seating - a plus!) and the option to buy some wine or beer for my movie (double plus plus!). Â They also opened up a bar & restaurant, which I have yet to try - but I'm looking forward to using my check in special for a free wine w/my entree purchase!
Definitely the most comfortable theater. Â Sunset Place gets way too crazy and is just not as comfortable (and no booze - boo).
