We took my partner's father here for Father's Day 2013 and had a great time. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food was delicious. I definitely believe that I had a great Cuban cocktail - mint and all! Although the food was spectacular, I would only suggest that it is slightly more spicier! I had to ask for a bit of hot sauce to spruce up my dish.
Otherwise, this was a great place to grab a meal. I highly recommend it.
P.S. When you check-in on Yelp, you get 25% off your bill. Not a bad deal!
Maria is a sweet and wonderful server who made on point suggestions and patiently helped us through the many menu options. As she promised, the coconut mojito was delicious and the Bistec a Caballo was an excellent entrée. I had to order my favorite dessert-flourless chocolate cake-and it didn't disappoint!
Review Source:I came here for dinner to celebrate my friend's birthday. We only had dinner and didn't go to the lounge. Â I ordered what I usually get at Peruvian restaurants -- the lomo saltado with a pisco sour. At this point I've probably had this combo more than I should, but both are so dang good.
My lomo saltado still doesn't size up to my Grande de Oro version. You can't compete with perfection I've learned. As far as the pisco sours, they're well made and very tasty. Pisco is a Peruvian brandy with egg whites. Surprisingly sweet and easy to drink.
Our server was good. She maintained hee consistency with us throughout the whole meal which I was happy about. I told her it was my friend's birthday when he went to the bathroom, and when he returned she came out along with two other people and sang happy birthday to him. It had a sparkler on it! It was such pleasant surprise. To make it all the better, they brought out two desserts for us so we didn't share. The dessert was a vanilla bean bread pudding type dessert. It ooooh so good and very rich in flavor.
I've heard this place has a good happy hour I will have to try next visit. 3.5 stars!
Went for dinner on a Thursday with friends.  The four dishes we had were fried tilapia, risotto quinoa, salmon, and some jumbled mix of beef and something.  I didn't think the décor matched the food and the location, but I see here on Yelp! that this used to be a place called South Beach.  That explains the décor.  Anyway, the food was not that good.  The risotto quinoa is like goat cheese soup.  My wife ordered the tilapia and was not impressed.  (Personally, I don't like deep fried fish ever.)  The salmon was pretty over cooked.  The server was very nice.  Overall, not a place I think I will go back to.
Review Source:This place is pricey even for Bethesda, and with lackluster service and food it makes it a complete rip-off. The food was slow to arrive to the table, Â and I felt like I was bothering the waitstaff when asking for anything.
The drinks from the bar were good though, especially the Mojitos- but still over priced.
I see where this place could be better and I may give it s shot again in the future, if either the prices go down or the food quality goes way way up.
I came here on a Wednesday night and we were literally the only ones in the restaurant.. awkward. The restaurant itself is nice, but being alone made me skeptical from the start.
Our waitress was extremely nice and attentiveness (maybe overly so), but I guess that's because she had no one else to give her attention to.
Chips, salsa, and guacamole ($3.99): The chips were good, warm and salty. Like another reviewer alluded to, the guac is good, but the texture was almost whipped. The salsa looked and tasted like Texas Pete Hot Sauce.
La Paisa Moderna ($16.95): My entree was HUGE. I enjoyed everything (the Colombian sausage and fried pork were particularly interesting, as I've never tasted anything like them before) except for the plantain wafer and arepa, which were both basically round, flavorless discs.
Bistec A Caballo ($16.95): This was my boyfriend's dish. The sirloin was big, thin, and well-done, despite his request for medium.
Overall, Parva's food was good, but the atmosphere and lack of other patrons was a huge turnoff.
3.5 stars.
We had a mixed experience at The Parva--most things were actually pretty good, but some major elements were disappointing enough to knock down the rating. Â
The atmosphere is trendy and yet still inviting, with a lot of white furniture, very comfortable booths for dining, and lots of tables set up on the lower level for dinner customers (the upstairs seems to house a nightclub of sorts). The lighting is attractive and overall the place feels very relaxed and fun. Â
Our waitress was very friendly and pleasant. Â All of the service team was very attentive to us, refilling our water frequently (we drink a lot of water...), offering us bread almost right away, and promptly bringing out food as it was ready. Â We were definitely very happy with the service and the decor.
I can also say that we both found the drinks to be absolutely delicious, so either they had a particularly good bartender that night or we got lucky to have found a place that served our kinds of drinks. Â To be fair, they are a bit on the sweet side, but all the drinks are fun, festive, and tasty while still packing a punch in terms of alcohol content. Â The margarita had great flavor and my boyfriend's strawberry mojito was yummy even to someone (me!) who doesn't like strawberry flavoring.
The food was for the most part very good with a few major missteps. Â The bread was fresh and tasty, but I'm not sure that I liked that it was almost sweet in flavor. Â However, the olive spread that they served with it was magnificent and had interesting, complex flavors. Â The guacamole was different from any I have ever tasted before, as it almost had a quality of being whipped, but the flavor was delicious and kept us coming back for more. Â Same was true for the salsa and the chips. Â The vegetarian quesadillas that we shared were also very tasty and had the perfect balance between cheese and vegetables.
For entrees, my boyfriend ordered the seafood pasta and I had a quinoa risotto. Â His seafood pasta had a very flavorful sauce and well-cooked pasta, but the seafood seemed like it was just about to go bad. Â This was a big disappointment for him because everything else was so good. Â For my quinoa risotto, the goat cheese flavor kind of took over the dish leaving everything else behind. However, I still very much liked the dish in general and adored the Parmesan cracker that they served with both of our meals.
Overall, we definitely enjoyed our meal here and would very much consider coming back. Â It's not the best Latin American food I've ever had, but it's a great little place that's definitely worth trying.
Not sure why all the hate--this place is excellent and convenient.
Pisco sours are well made. That's no small feat since most places try to pass off whiskey sours or 'forget' some of the ingredients, etc. Not here--well mixed every time, and you can order a pitcher (~5 glasses).
Apps are well-plated and tasty. Could easily do 2-3 for a couple and be full. Entrees are large and made to order, if you have any requests. Most of the usual suspects are on the menu, and I'm pretty sure you can order a fav dish not on the menu if you were so inclined.
Wait staff was attentive and helpful for dinner. Not too many diners at 7PM but the place starting filling up at 9. Reservations are a must if you're aiming to catch a late dinner.
Yes, it'll set you back ~$100 for a full dinner for 2, but I'm happy to pay for quality (and there aren't too many places in the area that make that list).
My family & I came in this week. Â The empanadas (appetizer) were really good and the salmon dishes were hot and wonderful. Â The house martinis were absolutely first-rate!
From my perspective, here's the key thing: The staff was so unbelievably nice it's hard to rate this as anything other than great. Our waitress was Lithuanian & totally knew the best things on the menu and was so nice. Â The waiter was El Salvadoran and he was so thoughtful about what to order. Â
I thought about giving this place 3 stars, which I've given to other nice places. Â But I can't do it. Â This place is too nice. Definitely worth 4 stars!
Food is terrible. This is not Colombian food!
Expensive for no reason as well.
The food also too 45 minutes to arrive and the restaurant was empty.
My medium rare steak came well done had to order twice and took another 15 minutes and this time it was literally rare. You can tell the meat is also very low quality because even as a rate piece of steak, it had no juicyness to it. It was soo dry.. The Bandeja Paisa was also terrible.. I just dont understand how this is a Colombian restaurant.
At this point, I'm pissed and wanna say forget It, but it' was my mom's bf b-day and we didn't want to go anywhere else since we were here watching a soccer game earlier in the day.
While watching the game we ordered a Picada from upstairs, and we all concluded that this was definitely not a Colombian Picada.
All their dishes are set up to come out the same. Salad, rice, and then whatever protein you get, there really isnt much of a combination..
Telling from the fact that I also had to order 3 Manzana postobon sodas because it had 0 gas..but repeatedly being served the same soda from the bottle... they are just cheap!
I'm ashamed this is "Colombian food"...Never again
I was there with family. Â Overall the food was good. Â However, I give it 2 stars because I think the manager did not handle the situation well. Â I had quinoa dinner and after spoonful of sandlike crunches I let the waitress know. Â The manager came and apologized and took the more than half of the leftover without compensating with anything else. Â So basically I left without much food and paid for it.
Review Source:I wanted to like this place. I've been searching for a good Argentinian restaurant since moved to the DC area 2 years ago. Upon entering, I was not impressed with the decor. Theres nothing cozy or comfortable about it. The while chairs are cheap looking and uncomfortable. There were only 3 tables occupied and yet we stood around waiting for a hostess to seat us.
We ordered the empanadas as an appetizer. They were ok. I had no trouble deciding on the argentinian steak. My husband also ordered a steak...can't remember exactly what. We both ordered medium. His was bloody and mushy. Mine was well done. The presentation was terrible and the steak had no flavor. The chimchurry sauce, served on the side, did nothing to help the flavor. I ate about 3 bites of it. When the waitress came back to take our plates, she didn't say a word about the fact that my plate was barely touched.
The dessert was good though. I had the tres leche and my husband had the flan. Both were delicious. The mojito was good as well. Neither were good enough to return though.
Bummer.
I recently went to "The Parva" formerly known as "Southbeach" with a group of friends and was not pleased.
The food was really "meh" - dry and overpriced. I guess the best part was the huge plates that my friend ordered including things like: sausages, fried potatos, yucca etc. if you like that kind of thing.
Drinks where ok and we took advantage of the happy hour.
The place later turned into a dance place. Up stairs - Salsa, a group played there later but they charged a $10 fee and down stairs: international (the DJ was good) but they try to make it something their are NOT - upscale! With security at the door and inside - really gangster.
Sorry to say, that I liked Southbeach better and won't go back to Parva. Just not worth my money and time.
Had a real nice meal last night. Â Very friendly staff made us feel at home. Sangria was unique and incredibly flavorful. Enjoyed apps but entrees were well above everyday fare. Huge portion of salmon and tastey traditional strip steak dish with peppers onions and fries. We will be back. Â While we are generally asleep before its rocking we checked out the upstairs lounge which looks to be a ton of fun.
Review Source:If your a fan of Peruvian cuisine you know that most of these restaurants that pop up in DC MD and VA that claim to serve "authentic Peruvian cuisine" just don't make the cut. I had the Ceviche and a couple other entrees+ cocktails while dining at Parva one Friday night in December. The waitress was bubbly, personable, and knowledgeable about the menu. The food and drinks were excellent-great Pisco-sours!
Will definitely be back.
=D
This is absolutely THE place to go. Â It is Latin Fusion, but when you walk in you'd think you were in a Russian-themed, winter wonderland -- all white and silver -- sparkling. Â The drink menus feature the usual Brazilian and Latin specialty drinks (e.g., capraihanas), some made with unusual (to the States) liqueurs. Â [A Black and White drink looked like a White Russian.] Â
Happy Hour is a real deal at Parva. Â Great appetizers: different fries with various dipping sauces, breaded shrimp, miniature beef empanadas, sausages, and little pancake-like offerings filled with cheese. Â The steak and yucca choice is fantastic for carb-haters. Â
Maria will happily give you a tour of the menu and make suggestions; she won't steer  you wrong. Â
Upstairs is a nightclub the likes of which you probably haven't seen -- big club seats and banquettes in white leather. Â Lights, the whole deal.
Try Parva if you're tired of your usual happy hours and restaurants and clubs. Â Or for your next office party. Â A group of us went there -- had a great time.
I had the opportunity to dine on a 4-course meal at Parva during the holidays. Â Our party had the following combination of appetizers, salads, entrees, and deserts:
Appetizers
* Crunch Quenda
* Beef Empanadas
Salads
* Tropical Salad
Entrees
* Argentinean Steak
* Pollo con champinones
Deserts
* Mouse de mango
* Triple chocolate semifreddo
* Grilled Pineapple on fire
The beef empanadas were nicely made as I could not find a hint of grease after being cooked (fried). Â Filled with shredded beef, potatoes and onions the empanadas provided a pleasant finger food experience when dipping them in the Colombian Aji dip. Â The dip was a bit spicy but not blazin hot.
The crunch quenda was lightly breaded in Quenoa and served with a reduction sauce comprised of orange, ginger and honey bringing sweetness to my palate.
The pollo con champinones was made with chicken breast marinated with mushroom sauce, accompanied with rice and sauteed veggies. Â A healthier dish compared to the Argentinean NY style steak I ate!
The 10oz beef tenderloin was perfected cooked medium as requested. Â When I took my first bite I felt as if I was transcended in Bogota dipping the steak in the Argentinean creole sauce, eating my side caprese salad, along batons of potato and chimi churry sauce.
Despite being on a Columbian food high the food kept coming out of the kitchen. Â Our deserts were delivered and everyone was nice of enough to share. Â The triple chocolate semifreddo was made of dark / white / milk chocolate and too sweet for my tastes.
The grilled pineapple on fire had a new year's eve presentation with fire rising up from the bottom of the plate filled with Grau Marnier. Â The taste was on point as well with a blend of grilled pineapple, almond cookie, vanilla ice cream.
The mouse de mango was the best desert as it was not too sweet thanks to the white chocolate curls and mango.
Overall the dining experience and food was a great as it will provide an introduction to the Latin cuisine and tastes.
The last time I was at this location it was called South Beach Cafe. That was many years ago, but the Latin-fusion vibe is still the same.
There isn't a separate confined bar area (like Cuba Libre), but there are enough seats at the L-shaped bar. I came for Fiesta Hour (on a Saturday, yay!) which runs from 5-8pm. It offers 1/2 priced select appetizers and drinks. The drinks are: Very creative. Very Latin. Very potent.
I had a caipiroska, and while i can't remember all that went into it, it wasn't like any other I have ever had. Best part, it was only $4 during Fiesta Hour!
We had some nibbles too. The pica arepa was okay, but a bit bland and needed the two dips to give it a kick. The fried potatoes, yucca and sweet potatoes were okay too. Nothing to write home about, but a good thing to help sop up the liquor.
I check out the lounge upstairs which was open but empty. It is very white. Literally, everything is bright white, until the neon lights are turned on and this place becomes more club-by.
Just a note: The bartender informed me that from 3-5 everyday the only food you can order is from the appetizer menu, which is fine by me. I'll be back for another tasty drink or two.
-Happy hour review-
I was excited about Parva since it seemed to offer different cuisine (latin fusion) from most restaurants in Bethesda.
-Decor: Parva has very chic and trendy ambiance. Very white everywhere ..
I came here for happy hour (fiesta hour) on Saturday.
Most appetizers and drinks were 50% off. I thought it was great deal.
- Drinks: Â passion fruit caipirinha and other orange flavor drink. Both were strong and tasty. I recommend you come here for drinks, especially during Happy hour.
- Appetizers: tried 'Pica arepa' (Three corn arepa with cheese and guacamole dip and mild salsa-type chutney) and 'Para picar' (3 kinds, potato, sweet potato and yuca fries with 3 kinds of dips). Presentation of both dishes were excellent, however the flavor of arepa was too blend. Para picar (Fries with dips) was a good snack for drinks and its portion was good enough to share (even if it says for 1 person).
- Complimentary bread: again, superb presentation of various kind of bread but all were hard and old (maybe a day or two-day old?). Pretty disappointing.. It came with nutty dipping sauce (they called it hummus). This was rare occasion I wouldn't mind sharing or even giving the whole basket of bread away.
Overall, it seems to be a good spot for happy hour but I'm not sure if I would return for regular menu or full-priced bar menu.
My fiancé and I dined here this past weekend and unfortunately the negatives heavily outweighed the positives.
- The beverages were the tastiest items we had all night.  My fiancé and I both enjoyed a Colombian Mojito and topped the night off with a cup of Colombian coffee.  Our server was also a highlight of the night.  She was very sweet and accommodating.  Regrettably, a nice server and tasty drinks can't make up for our served plates of food and the odd ambiance.
- We started with the Ceviche Clasico Peruano. Â We love ceviche and I was so excited to dive into some delicious white fish. Â We received some beautifully cubed white fish, but it was completely ruined by acid. Â The ceviche was so acidic that it burned our mouths. The ceviche is recommended to be paired with the sweet potato puree, which we did, but the balance was totally off. Â The acidic ceviche combined with the overly sweet puree was not pleasant. Â
- My fiancé got the salmon.  The salmon was served on a bed of messy, limp greens and garnished with soggy strawberries.  On top of that, the salmon was badly overcooked and lacked seasoning.
- I got the La Paisa. Â It comes with a plantain wafer and I'm a sucker for plantains. Â The plantains used to make the wafer were not sweet, which means they weren't ripe enough. Â It was so disappointing because I couldn't even taste the plantain. Â My beans were hot on the outside, but cold in the center -- like they were warmed up in a microwave. Â Our server did take them back and bring me another bowl, but by then I had lost my appetite to the "microwaved" beans. Â The chorizo was tasty, but nothing special. Â The other elements on the plate were just boring.
- Â In addition, their portions are unreasonably large. Â They are so big that it makes the plates look sloppy and their prices unnecessarily high. Â If they reduced the sizes they could charge less and have a much cleaner presentation.
- Â Lastly, the ambiance is "weird". Â They are trying to combine a modern look with a Latin look. Â The furniture is modern and one-toned; meanwhile, the walls have vibrant paintings with screaming color. Â It's a very confused look. Â In addition, you are too close to the nearby tables. Â I felt like I was in a food court.
This place has only been open for a month, but I don't think we'll be giving it a second chance.
Saw that this was a new Bethesda Restaurant and decided to buy the Groupon. Â Service was excellent, but the food was not. Â The Salmon steak was about 1/2" thick and cost $26! The NY Strip was actually three round patties which did not taste at all like a NY Strip and was $27! Very overpriced for a neighborhood Restaurant. Â
One positive was very reasonable wine prices. Â
Glad I tried it, but won't be returning.
Ok food, but way overpriced.
Decided to try to place this place out after purchasing the Groupon deal.
For a Thursday night dinner rush, the place was empty! Multiple people walked by, check out the menu, saw the price and RAN. Had I not had the groupon, I wouldn't eat here either. $25 for a (very small) plate of lomo saltado or 2 chicken skewers is a bit ridiculous.
Our waitress also kept trying to persuade us to buy drinks. She acted shocked and appalled when we only ordered water and kept coming back to ask if we had changed our minds about not ordering drinks.
Also, they claim to be a "Latin fusion" restaurant using recipes from Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil. I'm not sure how they can claim this when they only have 5 entrees to choose from.
I would eat here again if they lowered the prices by at least $7 and had more entree options. I will stick to Divino Lounge in the mean time, where they ACTUALLY have Argentine food.
Saw a Groupon for this place and we headed over there for lunch. Got the Pica Arepa (I think that's what its called) for an appetizer and it was alright. My friend got the Shrimp Salad and it was huge. She didn't like the dressing on it and the shrimp hadn't be tailed but it was a good value for $9. I got the Honey Chicken sandwich and it was very very good. Service was great. I don't remember the server's name but he offered to bring out another chicken sandwich for my friend for free since she liked mine. Then he took the salad off the bill but we said that it was fine (we needed $30 to use the Groupon). It took a while to get our food out, that's the only downside. Will definitely come back. This is a very solid addition to Bethesda. They do need to add a menu to their website.
