So I found my vegetarian go-to dish: the shrimp diablo pasta (angel hair pasta with spicy marinara) 86 the meats and replace with veggies. Â Dish is pleasant-spicy, not overwhelming-spicy and it is YUMMY! Â Now it's me suggesting Pearls to the hubby, instead of the other way around, and happily, he always obliges.
Review Source:We went here on a Friday night around 8. The waitstaff was very nice and helpful. The shrimp was delicious and the pomegranate margarita was even better! It wasn't too crowded the atmosphere was nice almost romantic. Our waitress let us know that on Saturday and Sunday they serve brunch from 10-2
Review Source:1st time at this Pearls. I've been to the other location that closed down and also their sister restaurants and my family and I like them pretty well.
Started our lunch off with being notified that they were out of oysters. Yes, the Pearl's Oyster Bar...out of oysters. Unfortunately, the only reason we came here was because my mom really wanted oysters, so she was very disappointed. However, the waitress was very friendly and apologetic about it.
Ordered calamari for an app, not impressed at the slightest. Â The squid was very thin and so it seemed pretty overbattered. My family likes marinara sauce with calamari but the sauce they served with it was something inbetween marinara and cocktail sauce and very watered down.
We weren't given silverware or napkins until our apps came out and even though we asked our server after we ordered. We ended up having to ask another waiter who seemed rather a bit surprised (as were we) that we didn't have silverware settings yet.
Our waitress also has yet to bring our starter salads out and it's been about 15-20 minutes since we've been finished with our apps. We asked her about it and first she said forgot. Then when she brought the salads to us she said that when she first went in the back they were out of salad. Yes, out of oysters first, then out of salads??
(Finishing the review after coming home for the day) We ended up getting our salads shortly after we informed our waitress that they didn't come out. My mom had ordered French dressing and they gave her a creamy italian (which isn't a big deal at all because we can just simply switch the dressings) However, the waitress repeated that the dressing really was French. It definitely was Italian!
My entire party ordered some kind of fish, they were all cooked very well and were tasty. I recommend the miso sauce.
Anyways, it was not the worst experience I've had, but a few things could have been better. Yet again, it was Father's Day and I could see where they could have been overwhelmed earlier in the day and make some excuse for them to slack a bit. (We came at 3 to avoid the crowd.)
It's difficult to overstate our disappointment with this Pearls location. We arrived shortly after 9PM for drinks and sat at the bar. The bartender, a middle-aged blond woman named Jamie (or something similar), greeted us with an off-putting attitude that clearly indicated that she was uninterested in serving us and unhappy that we were there. We were allowed to order a round of drinks, but then immediately given the check and told they "closed at 10PM". We were then summarily ignored while she schmoozed with other customers. As it got close to 10PM, we noticed several other customers were still getting food from the kitchen and drinks from Jamie. Despite seeing this happening, when we asked if we could have another round at 10:02PM, she chidingly reminded us that we'd been told that she couldn't serve us after 10PM. We subsequently watched her pour beers for other patrons (?regulars?) well after 10PM.
To his credit, the manager did check in with us as we were leaving and upon our mentioning the negative experience, he apologized for the events. Unfortunately, it had already been made abundantly clear by the bartender that we weren't welcome, and we'd already paid, so there was nothing he could do. He did mention that the bartender and staff were "there until midnight", so the strict adherence to the 10PM cut-off was even more ridiculous (acknowledging it was selectively applied to us, and acknowledging the bartender's rude overall attitude was intolerable).
We ended up going to Republic (essentially across the street), and got great service and spent a lot of money.
Bottom line: if you're a regular, then Pearls is great for you. If you're from out of town or simply don't go there often, then you are at risk for getting cold, rude, and non-customer oriented "service".
I have been coming to Pearls for years!! The best thing on the menu is the Blackened Gator Tail, second runner up is the tabasco caesar salad.. I have always had great service no matter what time of day I come to Pearls and with two people or 10. The one complaint I have is that they closed all the other locations in the metro. I used to spend LOTS of times at the Pearl's Lakeside when it was around.
I have heard from others that the Bloody Mary's are the best around but I have not tried them yet.
My son and I decided on Sunday dinner out one week. We wanted seafood instead of the menu we had already planned. So, we headed over to give Pearl's a try. We ordered an appetizer, and 2 entrees. I ordered the greek salmon. Unfortunately, I thought it was horrible. I ate a bit, but really just shared with my son. He ordered seafood alfredo, which was really good. The sauce was creamy and parmy and yummy. Our server was great. She saw I didn't like the salmon and told a manager too. They both offered me something different, but sharing with my son filled me. So they just took the salmon off the bill. I think our server's name was Melissa. Seriously, she was great!
Review Source:Slow service, so-so food, and my debit card was dropped on the floor.
"Hey baby, where's my debit card?" Wife: "I dunno, I gave to you." I look again at empty slot in wallet. "No babe, it's not there." No I gave it to you." "Ummm..noooo. Where's my card???" I get up begin to walk through the place. "Hey man, that's my Austin Telco card, WTF???"
For some reason, I always forget about Pearl's. Such a great local spot and yet the location is just somewhere outside of the path my mind walks down when thinking of somewhere that sounds good. But we stopped in last week to grab some takeout.
We had a long day and were ready to get home and be with our pups. It's definitely more of a place you want to hang out, spend some time, have a drink and enjoy the beautiful building, patio and people watching. But I was pleasantly surprised that takeout also translated well.
I had the coconut shrimp which was excellent. I also like that they are flexible in letting you choose your own side. I had the squash Rockefeller and the baby Yukon golds. Mr K had the jambalaya, which he loved and ate every bite of. We also had an order of hush puppies because they are basically my favorite thing in the world.
I feel like this menu is lacking the ability to order an inexpensive grilled fish (like Orange Roughy), grilled veggies and a salad for an affordable price. The cheapest fresh fish is the mahi mahi for 19.99. You can save money if you want to eat fried seafood, and sometimes that does sound good, but if this were to be a dining mainstay for me, there would have to be more healthy, affordable dishes.
I want to come back to sit and enjoy, and maybe next time we'll come for the champagne brunch with a bloody mary bar.
Went for Father's Day brunch as Dad loves a good Bloody Mary bar and they claim theirs is famous. Â Well, we've been here before with friends and it was more of an appetizer and drinks kind of evening that time. Â This time I was completely underwhelmed. Â While the food was OK, it wasn't anything to write home about. Â Dad had the crab cakes Monique and said they were just OK, but he did enjoy the clam chowder and his Bloody Mary. Â I had the andouille omelet (meh), hubby had the Migas (meh) and the brother in law had Basin Street eggs (meh). Â The biscuits were freshly made, but over cooked on the bottom, hard and not very tasty. Â Worst of all, they served MARGARINE with the biscuits! Â MARGARINE? Â Really? Â Charge us an extra quarter or so and toss in a few packs of real butter...it could have gone a long way in helping those biscuits!
The worst moment though was when the hostess was walking past our table with another employee on the way to the kitchen and said, "It's actually kind of gross....." Â BLEAH! Â
There was no wait, which we expected on Father's day, perhaps that should have been a clue, so that was a bit of a pleasant surprise. Â Thought the quality of the food is not on par with the price and where they like to think of themselves on the food chain. Â Have been to three of their four restaurants now and none are top of mind when we are thinking of where to have date night at. Â Sad, but true.
This was my second visit to Pearl's in the last week. Â First visit enjoyed jambalaya. Â Portion was large with generous amounts of shrimp, chicken, and andouille sausage. Â Flavors were wonderful. Â
For my second visit, enjoyed a bowl of gumbo. Â Was not disappointed. Â The gumbo was delicious. Â I savored every spoonful. Â Service on both visits was friendly and professional.
If you're in Oklahoma City, Pearl's is not to be missed.
My first trip to Pearls was with my boyfriend and his sister over Labor Day weekend. The crab dip was amazing and definitely more than enough for three people to share as an appetizer. I ordered the seafood skillet with the smoked Gouda grits and broccoli as the sides. The seafood skillet had a ton of great scallops and shrimp. It was definitely was too much for brunch after the crab dip and I took over half my food back to the hotel.
I was really impressed with their weekend brunch menu and that you could order off of it until 2pm. Next time I am definitely going to try the craw fish omelet.
My husband and I decided to try Pearls out for our first "post-baby date night". My husband had been to pearls a few times years ago. We really wanted Oysters and some good sea food. We sat down and ordered a bottle of wine and a dozen oysters. Our meal came before the Oysters did. We were dissapointed and had to remind the waiter that we ordered Oysters. He brought them out after our meal and before he could even set them down on the table I could smell them! (If you don't eat oysters... this is a very bad sign oysters should not have an odor). We told the watier they were bad. He sent the manager over and the manager said he could not smell them but he would take them off our bill (I figured that was a given). This means one of two things. Either the manager does not know what bad oysters are or he did not want to admit that they were bad. Either way its not a good sign. The managers attitude was poor and he did not present himself the way a manager of a nicer resturant should have. On top of that the atmosphere was loud and it was hard to hear eachother talk.
Bad oysters, bad service, poor management. We will not be going back!
I went here for my birthday while visiting a friend on OKC. Â I'm a huge seafood fan and had heard everyone rave about Pearls. Â I love oysters and was super pissed when they told me they were already out, I mean it was 8:00 PM! Â So no oysters on my bday made me a tad dissapointed but I did have a seafood gumbo that was pretty good. Â There was way more rice than I enjoy but I had enough to eat leftovers three times. Â My girlfriend at the time had the tilapia and it was fantastic. Â While I can never say never, I doubt my travels will bring me through OKC anytime soon. Â However, if I do I wouldn't mid giving Pearls a second chance...I'll just make sure they have Oysters before I make the drive.
Review Source:I was very impressed with the quality of service that we received last night. We had a party of nine and even though they made a few mistakes and accidentally brought us food for another table. Â I feel the overall quality of service and attitude of the staff was wonderful. I had the Shrimp and Brochette and it was soooo good, My niece ordered the Aligator bites, that was good too. They ran out of one dish and had to prep shrimp, so it took a few more minutes to bring the Shrimp dish, but they comped that meal. Â The Manager and both wait staff admitted and apoligized for their errors. Â The entire experience was tremendous and I would recommend everyone to Pearls.. Great food for the price point .
Review Source:I had a great time here last week.
We had oysters which were fresh and delicious. I had the tilapia with brown butter sauce and my cousin had the lobster with white sauce. The brown butter sauce was flavorful and, personally I liked the lobster better with that sauce.
We had the bread pudding which I thought was good, but too sweet for my palate.
I took off a star because the AC vent on the ceiling had water dripping from it. I felt a couple water drops and notified the waiters. They came and cleaned it with a broom and a dirty rag which I thought was gross because they didn't warn people to cover their food for precautionary reasons.
I did appreciate that they moved us to another table, but I had to ask instead of them asking why my chair and myself was sticking to my cousins..
Sadly had to rate my most recent visit 2 stars, even though we've been there many times (before they moved) because it used to be pretty good (no, not nearly as good as you'd get in NOLA, but good for OKC).
I had the crawfish/shrimp omelette (which was OK, but nothing special), the andouille potato hash (which was just mashed potatoes with maybe 3 small pieces of sausage in it), and a biscuit (which was good, but they brought out *Parkay* to put on it - pathetic). Â Wife had crawfish enchiladas (OK), cilantro rice (worthless, no taste, just green rice), and black beans (good). Â She also got a side of squash rockefeller, which was only half a squash (thought it used to be a full squash, but maybe not). Â I also got some bread pudding to go, which was good, probably the best part of the meal. Â
The environment wasn't great - air conditioning blew right on me at one table, so we moved, but it was still blowing hard enough on us to feel, so we moved again (you really don't want a/c blowing on the tables hard enough to cool the food down within 2 minutes of it being placed on the table).
Service was not great - very indifferent waiter and just slow in general.
We'll go back, but get what we usually get (etouffee, gumbo, fish) and hope they haven't screwed those up. Â Disappointing...
Ate here with the family tonight and the service was excellent!! The atmosphere was nice. The food was pretty good. For an appetizer we had the blackened alligator tail and the edemame, which were both outstanding. I had the Ahi Tuna with a wasabi sauce & it was killer. I tried a few other dishes that the family got such as the seafood skillet and the bourbon chicken and I wasn't very impressed with either one. The prices were a bit high but it is seafood in Oklahoma...
We had the Key Lime Pie, the Lovers Chocolate Cake, and the Cheesecake for dessert. The key lime pie was superb! I loved it.
So, we had amazing service, overly priced seafood, but a pretty nice experience overall.
This is another one of those Oklahoma joints which are great if you've never had their type of food outside Oklahoma. Â Anyone who's had good Cajun or seafood, tough, will balk at the high prices and slow service. Â
Their brunch is one of the only legitimate brunches in Oklahoma City, though, and includes a build your own bloody mary bar, or at least used to. Â Stuck in Oklahoma, it's a decent if overpriced substitute.
