The food is ok and the customer service is even worse! The people who work here are just rude. This has been the case for the last few years! I tried the bean and cheese burrito plus sour cream a few times but never again. Every time I've ordered the bean and cheese they have slopped about a 1/4 cup of sour cream right in the middle of the burrito and completely ruined it. Â If you ask me Pedro's is completely over rated. Â The other thing that bums me out with regards to Pedro's is the Heinz hot sauce they have. Â If I'm going to eat Mexican food, I'd like to enjoy it with a little homemade hot sauce.
Review Source:If you're looking for a quick, fulfilling, and cheap bite to eat then Pedro's is your place. My bf and I spent the day in San Clemente and were craving some tacos - Pedro's definitely gave us our fix. They have a small menu but a good variety of tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. We ordered the fish, potato, and shrimp tacos. I definitely recommend the shrimp taco! I didn't care for the fish or potato as much because they were both deep fried, but the sauce on all of them was delicious. Â *Note, they only take cash! They have an ATM outside, but the fee was pretty hefty. I give Pedro's a 4 star because of the cheap prices and delicious shrimp taco! Make sure that you have cash handy!
Review Source:If you're looking for somewhere to get a quick good bite Pedro's is the best. The burritos are huge, tasty, and very filling. I hardly ever finish them. In the summer this is the go to place for everybody. My favorite is the bean, cheese, and potato burrito. It adds that extra crunch. Seriously Pedro's is the best and probably the only place I want to eat after a long day walking around the beach or surfing.
Review Source:Have been coming for years on my way to Disneyland/LA/North/South. Â Usually get the bean n cheese burritos when they used to be 99 cents. Â Yeah they may not have homemade salsa but everyone in the family loves the Heinz taco sauce with their burritos. Â I've had the quesadilla too which is like any other taco shops. Â The nice thing is you can drive thru and feed 5 in the family take a couple burros home for about $10. Nice little quick efficient taco shop. Have one of their stickers in my office.
Review Source:Always see this drive through on the main drag in San Clemente. We decided to try it yesterday, and were not disappointed. Carne asada burrito juicy and so filling. California burrito just as good, despite the carbs of rice and potato. The shrimp taco was the least of what was ordered, as there were not a lot of shrimps, also they were deep fried cheap shrimp, and loaded with shredded lettuce. So it was more of a lettuce taco with dressing. Nonetheless, the burritos were so good, I am sure this is a great unpretentious place and definitely will be back for more.
Review Source:Pedro's is cool and it's not just the name.
Well if you need to put something in your stomach before or after a surf then you need to stop here. I ate a combo burrito from here saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised.
The combo burrito was tasty, Â served by a cute girl and priced right.
The hot salsa comes in a packet and me no like Pepsi.
Pedro's used to be my all-time favorite Mexican restaurant in San Clemente until I found out they use lard in their beans and tortillas. :(
As a strict vegetarian, I refuse to support a company that uses animal fats in their meals. I assumed that "Frank's Veggie Burrito" wouldn't include lard..but I was mistaken.
PLEASE use vegetable oil, Crisco or any alternative in place of lard. If you make this change, then I promise to be your #1 supporter!!
Good for cheap tacos. Â The service was disappointing though. Â After ordering our meal our total was a bit higher than we anticipated after doing the math in our heads. Â We held up the line while my husband withdrew more money from the ATM (and incurred another ATM fee) to pay the $1.50 difference. Â After receiving our order (with receipt) we realized that the cashier had accidentally charged us for two burritos instead of one (the reason for the higher bill). Â She offered to refund us for the burrito or we could buy it and keep it. Â To lessen the hassle, we kept it, but it left a bad taste in our mouths, even after our delicious fish tacos.
Review Source:good cheap mexican food. The potato tacos are what first got me going here. Now I always get a bean cheese and potato burrito, and an order of rolled tacos. Perfect quick lunch after a day out in the water. I never leave san clemente without visiting. They only get 5 stars due the fact that they no longer accept cards, cash only. And now they no longer carry coke, I cant stand pepsi.
Review Source:Not the best burritos out there but they hit the spot in a bind. The usually have a weird after taste, not sure why but I guess it has something to do with the way they cook the tortilla. Guacamole and other ingredients usually taste pretty fresh, but they don't mix them very well in the burrito. The last burrito I had, I got nothing but salsa for the first two bites. Overall not bad, not my favorite burritos but I find myself going often just because the drive thru is so convenient.
Review Source:Mostly a Drive-thru taco store. They now sell Chips (without salsa =( ).. Greasy carne asada burrito but can be coated by using a lot of hot sauce. Horchata drinks are good but not filled to the gills. Don't recommend to seat out by the bench if waiting for your order (lots of dirt and slimy stuff around it) but hey, Still cant go wrong. It's in the heart of San Clemente area so it must be good right?
I buy mostly because of the name.. (I like the name Pedro) other than that.. There's got to be a better place to fill my grumbling stomach.. =)
Haven't tried the water here. Giving it a three for drive-thru only and limited offer of food. kudos and more power.
So close to Mexico and they can't make authentic tacos?
What up OC?
There are better tacos in Seattle... Â
Tried the carne asada taco (looked like ground beef to me) somewhat flavorful but skimpy on the filling, the fish taco (a mayo mess over fried fish) and the chicken taco (I thought it was the fish taco, because the pieces were small, not grilled like the menu said and had a fishy taste.
Try it if you must, they do have a drive through and I guess it may be healthier than McDs for all of you fast food junkies...
Ordered the fish taco and the bean and rice burrito (I wish I read the reviews and got bean, cheese, & potato!).
The fish in the taco was battered well, and the flavor was good, but the coleslaw rendered the tortilla a little bit soggy, which was disappointing. However, I do really like that the taco includes diced tomatoes. It was far from the best, and I still do believe that Rubio's fried fish taco gets the edge in my imaginary fish taco war. Also, my fish was oddly rectangular, so it does somewhat resemble a nasty filet-O-fish from McD's, but the fish at Pedro's was crispy and hot rather than soggy and lukewarm.
My bean and rice burrito was actually delicious! It took me five minutes after unwrapping it to handle it without suffering third degree burns, and once I was ready the middle was still hot! The beans were still intact and not mushy, and the rice was plentiful. Although I would say using the sauce is recommended to enhance the flavor. Now I just need to graduate up to the bean, cheese, and potato burrito and carne asada burrito on my subsequent visit.
I was very satisfied with the prices actually, and the water seemed more refreshing since I paid 25 cents for it. However, I do really wish the uncovered tables had some shade, because resting my elbows on the metal table was how I imagine Michael Bluth felt whenever he accidentally touched the Cornballer. "MOTHER OF GOD. EVERY DAMN TIME!"
I used to come here all the time in high school. We'd get an order of 30 burritos for our classes and what not. This place is a San Clemente staple, and now that I'm out of state I make damn sure that I make a stop here (along with In-n-Out and Board & Brew). The glory of Pedro's can essentially be summed up in one exquisite food choice:
BEAN & CHEESE BURRITO W/ POTATO.
That is all.
A solid 4 Stars - (A case of mistaken identity)
My friend, FP, told me about Pedro's Tacos and said that this was "THE ONE" to go to... Â So, later that same warm, August night I took a nice drive down the 5 to San Clemente. Â
'And in my excitement to eat, I came to the "wrong one." Â You see, there's another Pedro's further south on El Camino Real... Â 'According to FP, that is "THE ONE" to go to... 8/ Â 'Hunger can do crazy things to a person... Â I once saw a small boy beat up a grown man for a sandwich!
Pedro's South El Camino: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/pedros-tacos-san-clemente">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>
It was only when I looked over my notes prior to writing this review that I noticed the error of my ways. Â Sh*t. Â (I was wondering why the food here was good but not great like FP was raving about... Â 'And now I know.)
'At any rate, on with the review!
'As I pulled up to the "little" taco stand, very little... Â I recognized it from driving through San Clemente before. Â Small establishment, simple in appearance but seems to be a local favorite.

They also have a drive thru! Â Guh'roovie!

Combo Burrito w/Potato Burrito ($4.78) - Good; tasty
I also picked up -
Carne Asada Burrito ($3.89) - Good; great flavor

Holy frijoles!! Â What'a frick'n deal!!!
I expected to see a decent salsa/pepper bar... Â 'Nada.
I inquired about peppers... Â 'Nada. (I believe if you order the chicken, it comes with it but otherwise not available separately.)
I was surprised... Â 'But not put off. Â 'Just shrugged, snapped a few exterior photos and anxiously waited for my bag o' burritos! Â The young lady behind the counter was great, friendly, answered all of my questions, no problem. Â Muchos gracias chica for recommending the Carne Asada Burrito.) 8) Â 'She had very nice eyes, great smile!
They have salsa packets - Salsa Del Sol "Jalapeno Hot Sauce"
At first I thought, "Hmmm, interesting Taco Bell looking packets?... Â I'll give it a chance..." Â 'And you know?... Â 'It wasn't bad, good flavor.
I've found a new hole-in-the-wall Mexican spot! Â 'But not THE hole-in-the-wall I was looking for! 8)
'And so, the adventure continues! Â Next stop, Pedro's on S El Camino Real!

WOW, this place sucks. I have no idea how their tacos are because I had to leave before ordering, here's why:
The beach bum ahead of me puts in his order and his card is declined. He runs over to his friends to borrow one of their cards and try again. Then, that card is declined. Now he's headed out to mooch on another clearly annoyed buddy. At this point I step up to the window and the cashier asks if I can wait a minute. I ask if it's for the guy trying find someone to pay for his meal. She says yes. I suggest that those of us in line have been waiting long enough and she might want to take orders from those of us with money. (the line had grown during our wait). She said no. So I left. As I walked back by 5 minutes later after hitting the 7-11, they had finally begun to take orders from the guys who were behind me in line.
A tip to Pedro:
If someone is having trouble paying for the food they've order, tell them to come back when they're ready. DO NOT make those of us who are ready to pay you wait for some idiot to find a sucker to buy his breakfast. It's stupid, it's bad business and most of all it's rude.
Skip this place if you enjoy being treated as a valued customer or if you have any appreciation for customer service.
I Â was utterly shocked at how bad the tacos are here. Â I took one bite of the world famous fish tacos, GAGGED, & spit it out, Â and then I chucked it in the trash can with the carne asada taco that looked like utter crap. Â
BIG portions, but un-edible food.
TERRIBLE, DISGUSTING, VOMIT WORTHY. Â
I never realized how good mediocre RUBIOS WAS/IS until now.
Oh Pedros! I was on a budget that week and luckily the girls at Heavenly Couture pointed me to the right way. Â 1 shrimp taco and their famous bean/cheese/potato burrito. Â I probably should of only ordered the shrimp taco because it was huge. Â The shrimp were more like prawns! Â Lightly battered and fried to perfection. Â Best Shrimp taco I've had in a VERY long time. Â The burrito totally works... Â The potato is actually fried... like super fried, so you actually get a nice crunch in the middle of the beans and cheese. Â me likey!
Apparently Pedros is like an institution in this part of town..I'll be stopping here next time I head out this way!
When the sign on the wall says "WORLDS BEST TACOS" <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cXNb0A9xwtEbLa5a5KyfNQ?select=A1mbyimO3dKSy6nasgal_g">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a> and they ask if you'd like Mild or Hot SALSA with your order and then give you <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/cXNb0A9xwtEbLa5a5KyfNQ?select=AnAugVekvsqaCdo7fCqU7g">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

Can't let them off that easy!, "WORLDS #@%*& TACOS" YES!, under all that cabbage I did find what resembled and tasted like a fish stick, chicken had a funny taste and what's up with all the bell peppers? it made the tortilla soggy, carne asada you say? tough, flavorless beef I say and with all the watery tomato's also made the tortilla soggy, and at like $2.50+ or so each, me thinks not!
CRAP-O-RAMA!!! Â I wish I had four thumbs so I could give this four thumbs down. Â The first time I came here was a few months ago and it was far from good. Â I wanted some Mexican for breakfast today and thought I would give the place a second chance. Â BIG MISTAKE!!
First of all any Mexican taco shop worth it's salt is not gonna serve hot sauce in packets. Â The hot sauce is made in Ohio!!! Â This alone should be a red flag but apparently I was not thinking clearly this morning.
I got a steak, egg, beans, and potato burrito. Â The "steak" was more like hamburger with very tiny pieces blended into the egg. Â Every once in a while I came across a piece that you could actually see was meat. Â There were no beans in it as far I could tell. Â The potato is actually a fu**ing hashbrown that is broke up into the burrito. Â If I wanted a hash brown I would have ordered a f**king hashbrown. Â What a joke.
On top of it all there service is nothing short of worthless. Â Nothing but business at the drive thru window. Â It's a lot like going through a cafeteria line in school only the people are not as friendly.
BOTTOM LINE IS AVOID THIS PLACE AND JUST ACCEPT THE FACT YOU CANNOT FIND GOOD MEXICAN FOOD NORTH OF THE BORDER CHECKPOINT AT SAN ONOFRE.
The only two thing I've tried off the menu here are the fish taco and the bean and cheese burrito. I make the drive down to San Clemente from Fullerton as much as I can, just for the gooey goodness that is their bean and cheese burrito! Honestly, I would be happy just eating the fresh warm tortillas they have, though. The hot sauce they serve is very good as well...flavorful and the right amount of spice. Their fish tacos are also very good - a giant slab of fish with cabbage and delicious sauce!
All in all, nothing beats sittin' on the beach in San Clemente, with a delicious bean and cheese burrito and horchata!
On our way back from looking at scooters, the lady decided she wanted to stop here for tacos, as she has many times in the past. Of course, she didn't decide to tell me this until after I had already past the location. So, after some sick (read: dangerous) maneuvers to get turned around and back on track, we got to Pedro's Taco's.
The price was right, the tacos were good, and it resulted in a nice afternoon snack. I can't say that I blame her for wanting to stop, and I'm grateful that we did. We had the fish tacos, and I highly recommend them if you're in the area.
Try the carne asada burrito or the "rolled tacos" (taquitos). Â Those are my favorites, and have been since the late 80's, when I first started going here. Â Prices remain very reasonable for what you get. Â
Pedros is what I crave after a good surf session. Â Unfortunately, I've not found time to paddle out very much lately, so haven't been for a while.
You know that saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder"? That's how I feel about Pedro's Tacos.
When I used to live in San Clemente, I just thought Pedro's was okay. It was a good stand-by for "Real" Mexican food. It is a very "Americanized" taco shop. Now that I do not live close by, I miss it oh so much!
They have the best breakfast burritos. Carne Asada burritos like I have never had anywhere else. Fried Chicken Burrito is BOMB! Fish tacos are BOMBASTIC (The Bomb+Fantastic). Rolled Tacos are delicious. I even loved the Heinz hot sauce.
Cash and Travelers checks only! So stop by the B of A or Wells Fargo directly across the street!
Holy cow, have I been missing out. Â I'm a former local who's recently moved back. Â Not sure if it's just because I've been taco-deprived during my 3 years in Boston, and now everything Mexican tastes good, but Pedro's rocks.
I am a Wahoo's loyalist, but since Pedro's is a block from my house, figured I'd check out what the surfer hype was all about. Â The fish tacos have fried fish in them, but that's not a bad thing. Â The shrimp tacos are money! Â Nicely seasoned and sauteed, not breaded, and they fill your taco up with shrimp, and for $2.50, you get your money's worth and then some.
Fish & shrimp tacos are topped with shredded cabbage and this awesome light cream sauce. Â Go there. Â Go there now for cheap good eats.
I've been coming here for years and always stop by whenever I'm in the area.. usually once every six months or so.
This place is really good and cheap.. The only downside is that it's pretty much to-go only as there's only one table to sit and eat and it's usually always occupied.
It's kind of like a taco stand, but with a drive through.
You can't go wrong with their carne asada burrito, combo burrito, rolled tacos with guacamole, or fish tacos.
The burritos come stuffed with meat, beans, guacamole, cheese, and other stuff.
A serious bargain for $3.40.
They have many different types of tacos including potato, fish, chicken, etc.. the crispy kind for about $2 each.
I think they should make their own salsa because they only give you hot sauce packets, they aren't bad, but aren't great either.
Finish off your food with a cold horchata or pina colada for only $1.50 more and you're set.
Drive a mile down to the beach and eat your burrito overlooking the waves.. they actually have more tables there!
I don't understand all the great reviews. Â I tried the "world famous fish taco" Â It was a frozen fish stick, fried and stuck in a tortilla with cabbage and sauce. Â Not horrible, but nothing I would go out of my way to get again. Â Also tried the carne asada taco. Â WAY too salty. Â I like salty food, but this was ridiculously over salted.
With all the people in line, and the drive thru filled with cars, I thought it would be a good choice, but I was disappointed.
And the 'salsa' was Heinz hot sauce in little packets. Â Not impressed.
As others have said, it's yummy and cheap. However, I also agree that the carne asada here can be way too salty and greasy. I like salty food, so I was surprised that I found both my mom's carne asada burrito and my carne asada taco (both of which are packed with meat and slathered with guac) to be a bit much.
I would also note that the burrito looks smaller than a lot of other burritos (Baja, Chipotle), but it is very filling because there's no rice, beans, lettuce, etc. Just meat, which could be good or bad depending on your tastes. Â
Overall, I would opt for a fish taco. The big piece of fish is fried but it doesn't taste heavy. There is also just enough cabbage and sauce to balance it all out. Take it down to the beach for the perfect lunch.
I'll probably get reamed for having ranked Pedro's Tacos so low, but that's ok, I get to eat Albertos, Albertacos, Albertas, Robertos, Â and the like all the time.
So I stopped by Pedro's today for the first time since 2002 when I used to live in San Clemente. Â It used to be one of my favorite places to go to in South County, but this particular visit yielded a burrito that was just a wee bit too salty. Â I dunno. Â Maybe my taste buds have changed?
The way I like my carne asada is as follows.
1) Not too salty
2) A pinch of limon (lime en ingles)
3) Flavorful
The carne asada burrito seemed like it had too much seasoning or somthing. Â It's like buying a carne asada flavoring packet and putting it on the meat and saying, yeah, this is carne asada.
Nah, that's not how I like it, but others may prefer it like that. Â Whatever, 3 stars from me. Â It does make great beach food though.
AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD ALERT!!!!
This place rocks. It is cheap, tasty and fast. I could say a your mom joke right there, but I'm not gonna.
Anyhoo, this place is famous among the locals. We stop here when we are on our way to south orange county to surf. They have authentic mexican dishes and give you lots of bang for your buck. Expect to get full from this place.
I reccomend their tacos al carbon and their bean and cheese. Their burritos are bigger than most newborns so you might be full for awhile. But hey thats a good thing!
They have delicious orange bang and these excellent combo plates. The taquitos are sooooo crispy and the guacamole is purely homemade. DO not mock the guac!
The prices range from 1.00 to 6.00 or 7.00. Maybe cheaper. This place is just so cheap for what you get it blows my mind!
It is right across the street from the lovely San Juan Capistrano Mission. So look around the Mission, say hi to the swallows and get your chow on at Pedros.
I took one star off because they need more seating. I guess that means they just get tons of business. Go here and be impressed. If you don't go, you're a big baby.
To be perfectly honest, I prefer the Pedro's about a mile and a half south of here on El Camino Real - but that might just be because that one is closer to the beach I like to go to...
Anyway, my San Clemente beach experience is never really complete without Pedro's. Â I usually stick to the 99 cent cheese quesadillas (what a deal!) and Jamaica Water (pronounced "Ha-mike-ah," for all you English speakers), which is basically this awesome punch made from hibiscus flowers. Â Everything I've had there is great, however, and reasonably priced.
I don't usually go for fast food, but for some reason this just feels different to me.
Go here (or the one down the street).
