I hate writing negative reviews but good lord. Worse Mexican food ever. The "salsa" was juice drained out of a can of stewed tomatoes. WTF? Beef in the burritos had that old meat taste and the shrimp in my date's fajitas were canned. I was totally embarrassed. She gave me dirty looks all night.
Review Source:It seems like it's been maybe 20 years since I've been in a Pepe's. Â This one was decent, and I must admit that the menu was more extensive than I remembered a Pepe's to have (thinking it was more like a hybrid sitdown-fast food Mexican place). Â Service was good, and there were plenty of private tables. I had a chili relleno lunch, with two peppers. Â It was decent tasting, but the peppers were soft and mushy like spinach, and I've never had one quite so mushy.
Review Source:This is a really good Restaurant.  I've never had a bad meal here.  My favorites?  Everything !  Pepe's is an original Chicago own business.  And is named after the Great Mexican Actor  "Cantiflas".  Other restaurants may advertise "Authentic Mexican Food", Pepe's advertises with taste.  Check out the Carne Asada a la Mexicana, Spicy, (Cooked with Fresh Jalepeno peppers), Bite size chunks of Flank Steak, sauteed with tomatoes, Garlic, Onions, Peppers and Spices.  Served with Beans, Rice and Tortillas.  Top it off with a Large Margarita (Many Flavors) and you'll know you've just enjoyed a Taste of Mexico.  The menu has a number of delicious dishes.  The other half of the PePe's Building is a "Sports Bar".  Drinks are excellent and it's a Great Place to watch a "BEARS" Game.  How do you know if its a good mexican restaurant?  Watch the locals, they're forehead will be covered with SWEAT.  The foods that good (and hot).
