Best pizza in Lincoln! They don't skimp on the toppings or the cheese. Great laid back atmosphere. Staff is friendly and helpful. I really wish they had an outdoor dining area. All they have is a few plastic tables out back for smokers.

Bar is not bad for a basement.  The menu is too small to attract a large crowd (only pizza available).  I have been here many times since they opened, the pizza used to be quite good, but has dropped in quality since opening.  The service has never been very good, even when not busy (which is most of the time).  Specialty drink is vapor shots, more gimmick than drink.  A lame attempt to get the college crowd to come in.

I've been to Pies and Pints about a dozen times. It seems to be a different experience every time. The service is inconsistent. This last time I went in, I sat at a table for 5 minutes and no one came to greet my group. We had to go to the bar to get drinks. The place was not even busy. When we ordered our drinks, the bartender didn't really know how to make the drink. Yikes!

I've had the pizza before and it is good. It is more of a thin crust pizza but not New York Style. The pizza has come out at varying speeds but it's generally on the slow side, even when it's not busy. The tables are a little small if you have a group of 4 and you split a pizza. The tables are really better for 2 people and food. If it is just 4 people drinking than it is fine. All the tables are high top. I think it might good if they added booths.

Drink selection is varied. They have about a dozen beers on tap but their bottled beer is a little slim. Don't expect to find too many import beers compared to other bars in the Haymarket.

They have 2 pool tables, foosball and Simpson's pinball (pretty fun) and duel dart boards. They also have skeeball.

I'd say that the place lacks memorable atmosphere. It definitely feels like a basement when you walk in. I think more lighting would help. This place is easy to miss. Hopefully they can attract more business with the renovations to downtown.

Pizza was delicious and amazing. Staff is friendly and helpful. The owner was just wandering around and took time to chat. GREAT beer selection. Reasonably priced. Great atmosphere. Seriously doesn't get much better.

We are from out of town and looking for a good pizza and bear and were lucky enough to have found both here and :"Pies and Pints".  Great pie!  The service was fantastic, beer cold with lots to choose from (14 on tap)Atmosphere is friendly and contributes to a small or large group to have a great time.  The bartender also waited on us, had a great personality and was helpful when we  couldn't decide on exactly what we wanted.  We will definitely go back here.

Our first visit to Pies and Pints. Thought the pizza and breadsticks were fantastic! But even better was the service! Our server was very friendly & very good at her job. Another plus is all the TVs. Seems like a good place to watch football.

    Overall, wonderful experience!

It was date night once again and so we thought we would head down to the Hay Market and try Pies & Pints and see if it was anything close to what our GREAT food critic in the Journal says it is.

Walk down stairs and into this basement establishment and was not to impressed with the layout or color scheme at all or the arrangement of all there tv's. They need to be spread out a little and hung a little higher so you can watch then and not have to try and look through someone's head because it really doesn't make a good window if you know what I mean.

Walked in and tried to find a cleared table or even a clean one would have been okay. Place was not busy and they had 2 servers and they seamed as confused as the customers walking in and trying to find a place to sit. Found a table and sat down and waited for a server and was about 20 minutes and finally she found us. She asked us what we would like to drink and we said beer and what do you have on tap and in bottle and she looked at us like we were naked or something. She said they have 90 plus beers and I asked for a beer menu and she said we do not have one but you can come up to the bar and see what we have so we took a stab in the dark and ordered and they had what we asked for.

Ordered pizza and waited patiently and about 30 min later it came and was wrong but did not want to wait any longer to eat and relax with a few beers. Pizza crust and sauce was no where near the Isles like Mr Korbelik  confessed it was nor did it taste anything like it either. Crust was undercooked and not enough sauce or cheese for my liking at all. Want to know what a great pizza tasted like hit it at yia yias and enjoy a great crust. Had 2 beers and ordered a third and was told they were out and only keep a 6 pack in stock.

Sorry Pies & Pints but you need to change a few things and improve on them before I come back again and get a real pizza oven because your newest and greatest is not all that.  As a new business I would have thought the owners would be out and about greeting customers and handling the customer complaints and not changing tv channels and ignoring the uncleared tables and the waiting customers as they walked out talking about their golf game. Old Chicago here I come......

    BIG LOVE

I ate here for the first time a few weeks back and have been meaning to review the place.  It's a solid pizza joint and a welcome addition to the Haymarket neighborhood.

The atmosphere and space leaves a bit to be desired.  It has a dank, basement feel (and not in that awesomely dive-y sort of way).  The place looks really empty inside.  It needs more seating.  Maybe some booths or little nooks and tables where you can sit with some friends and feel like you've got a bit of privacy.  The wall space is pretty blank as well except for a few neon beer signs.  I do realize this is a sports bar, so I'm not expecting art or retro decor of any kind, but it certainly needs a little something to spice it up and bring a bit more fun factor.  The skeeball is an awesome touch, and maybe just the addition of some more arcade/bar games would be all it needs?

The pizza was good, but nothing knock out.  We ordered the mac and cheese pizza.  Macaroni+cheese+bacon?  Yes please.  It was pretty good.  The crust was good.  Somewhere between thin and and thick, so it had a bit of crispness to it as well as being a bit chewy.  The ingredients on the pizza were decent, although I have to say I was not a fan of the yellow/orange cheese sauce they put on it.  I would have been fine with just cheddar.  If I ever order this one again, I think I'll make that request.

Bottom line: I liked this place.  I wasn't completely wowed, but I will definitely go back to try some of their other pies.  It's nice to finally have a decent pizza joint in The Haymarket, and I wish them well.

The wife and I were skeptical because our memory of this space was that of a dungeon... Luckily that was a number of years ago and all has changed for the better. Pies and Pints is bright, airy, roomy.

The pizza: I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. This is different from what you'll get elsewhere in town. We go to Yia Yia's a lot. And I like Lazzarri's, too. I am glad to have a good third option for pizza downtown (no, I don't consider Old Chicago a good option, sorry). The crust reminds me of the bread in my school lunches in grade school. It has that little hint of alcohol produced by the yeast they use in their made-from-scratch crust. This crust is not thick, per se, but it is thicker than I usually prefer. Nonetheless, I really liked it. We had the Cluckin' Good pie with chicken, ham, and bacon on a white sauce. Ugh, filling.

We ordered a small and that was plenty for us to take some home (6 big slices) and it was cheap! A few beers on tap at typical downtown prices, not too expensive. So, overall, you can get more than enough food and a good beer for a pretty low cost. We went back a second time and got the Bald Guy Special with extra cheese. Though you don't really need the extra cheese.

Interior: They have Big 10 theme tables, which is kinda cool. Of course I don't know who is going to be comfortable sitting at the Ohio State or Penn State tables... maybe bring your own tablecloth to cover up those horrible logos if they happen to be the only open tables.
The place is pretty big. Flat screen TVs around the entire place. Skee-ball. Pool table. Lots of elbow room. It's a pretty good set-up.

Suggestions: I don't know if the owners check Yelp!, but they may want to consider some small changes before football season.

1- The TVs are great. But when this place gets full you'll only be able to see is people heads in the way. The TVs are mounted at about the height of my dome, so people will not be able to see.

2- To repeat, the TVs are mounted at my height... and there is no protection for them. They may want to add a rail along the walls otherwise when it's packed people will run right into them. Seriously, imagine a football Saturday down here. If they don't put some space between the patrons and the TVs then I predict at least 1 broken TV at the first home game. Likely more.

3- Have a special set-up for football home games- it may go against your principles to make pies ahead of time, but you better get over it. You'll need to have pizza waiting for sale as people turn in and out of this place all day. If you set it up the right way for football season, you will be full all the time. If you don't, well, word gets around quick. I hope you have your act together for football season. If you do, you will be a huge success story.

4- Get better signage outside. I realize you have restrictions based on the location, but work out a deal with one of the other shops or something. People can walk right by this place and not notice it. That will be true all the time, not just for football season.

5- Find a better way, ANY better way, to keep water out of the when it rains heavily. I don't know, maybe put some raised ridges around the steps, etc. Apparently all of the water in downtown runs toward this spot...

6- Pies and Pints sounds like a dessert place. I know you are trying to be cute with the name, but when all those out of towners shows up this fall they are gonna think, who the hell wants a piece of pie with beer? Just go with "Pizza and Beer". Think of the conversations that would start. You want some pizaa and beer? Where should we go for that? Pizza and Beer. I know but where should we go for pizza and beer? I just said Pizza and Beer.. cripes.

Overall, good place and we will be going back. Give it a try. When it's dry.

I went here tonight for the first time with my parents. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We ordered the "Bald Guy" special, which included sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni and ham, and added additional toppings of green peppers and tomatoes.

They have a nice selection of tap beer, including Sam Adams Seasonal & Boston lager, Boulevard Wheat, Goose Island IPA, and the regular selection of domestic beer. They also have several in bottles.

Unfortunately, they made our pizza with green olives instead of green peppers. Though this wouldn't normally be a big deal, I HATE GREEN OLIVES, so we had them remake the pizza.

Shortly after we ordered a new pizza, the manager (or owner?) came over to apologize and said that they would take half off of the price of the pizza (which was already discounted $2 because of the daily special). He also offered to throw in a free pitcher of premium  beer, which we declined AND gave each of us a coupon for $2.50 off of a pitcher of beer. So they went way above and beyond in making our experience so delightful.

When we got our pizza, it was very tasty. I love pizza, and could probably eat it everyday. Their pizza has a thinner, chewy crust with a savory and rich tomato sauce. You could tell that the pizza was rolled by hand, to order. No pre-made crusts in this joint. It was nicely topped so that the toppings, crust and cheese were evenly distributed. Overall, very enjoyable. It came out hot and fresh to our table and paired well with the nice cold beer.

I look forward to stopping by Pies & Pints again!

I stopped by this new bar/pizza place this weekend called Pies and Pints for the first time with a few friends as we always like to try new places out and see what they are like. It is kind of like the TV show cheers where you have to go down stairs to get inside, which for me was kind of cool as I loved that show! I had been to this location once before when it was called Suite One a few years ago and it is completely different than I remember it. The new owners must have put in a lot of work because the place looks much nicer than it did before. It is much more open with really unique Big Ten Collegiate tables and huge flat screen TVs everywhere. If you are a sports person this is the place for you as they can put every game on! They also have the usual bar staples such as a pool table, dart boards, a touch tunes jukebox, a Golden Tee game and a pinball machine. The one thing they had though that I have never seen before is a game called Beerball. It is great, just like skeeball except you can win free pints, food, and T-shirts depending on how high of a score you get.....unfortunately I won nothing as according to the waitress I throw like a girl and got beat by her even. One of my friends scored 380 points though and got a pint of beer on the house for it!
More about the place now. The staff that was working Saturday were all really nice and helpful. Like I said we had fun messing around with the one server who we bet couldn't beat us at the beerball game (although as humiliating as it was she did beat us all the first time we played her). The bartenders were also great. They knew alot about all the different beers you could choose from as I like to try something new at least once every time I go out. I don't know where they got this one guy bartender but he is from the east coast as he has that accent when he talks and would remind you of a guy in a movie that bar tends in Boston or somewhere like that. Back on track though. He made us up some great drinks and actually put a show on for us by making shots that he set on fire. It is hard to explain but it involved two glasses where he poured the flaming one into the other and with the lights down low it looked amazing. There was quite a few people there that night but we never had to wait very long and both bartenders took always took the time to talk to us which made it seem more personable than just getting served a beer or shot. The last thing about the bar was that they made up their own drink. I asked what it was called but they said they just created that day trying some new things so they haven't decided on a name for it yet but let me tell you it was awesome.
Finally, the pizza. All I am going to say is that I wish they delivered because it was so good. Between the three of us we could barely finish a medium and at most places we can devour a large with ease. This thing was huge and loaded with toppings. As far as the toppings go there is nothing out of the ordinary, your basic toppings really, but that is expected when it comes to pizza. If I wanted something crazy I would go to Ya Yas. I took a menu with me as I wanted to check over all the different specialty pizzas they make. On this particular night we tried the Clucking Good at the suggestion of the server and it was really good. Chicken, mushrooms, ham, on alfredo sauce and covered in cheese. It was just what we needed with growling stomaches. You do have to wait a while for the pizza which was hard to do as we were starving but well worth the wait. The server told us this is because nothing is ever premade and stored waiting for someone to order it but is made to order each time from scratch. Plus she said there is something unique about their oven and how it cooks the pizza which is why there is a wait on it. As I said though, once you eat the pizza it is worth the wait! Next time I am going to try and eat the Flaming Head. It is supposed to be pretty hot if you opt for the habenero peppers instead of the standard jalapenos.
The only bad thing I can say about the place is that they don't have a patio out front but they do in back and that there is no sign up yet which makes it tough to find. If you don't know where to look you can easily miss the place. Besides that I can definitely see myself back down here, especially during football season as it close to the stadium (I admit I am lazy and hate walking far). I wish these people luck as it is a great spot and they put a lot of work into it to make it nice.

Pies and Pints just opened so I'm sure they have a little ways to go. It's a turn-key bar located just underneath Maggie's Vegetarian Wraps in the Haymarket. I went with a friend to check it out -- so far, it seems that just a few locals have heard about it. As far as I can tell, it's built to become a sports bar -- there are a ton of flatscreen TVs that were all showing women's college softball and eventually those split to show a boxing match as well. There's a touchscreen jukebox, darts, billiard table, and my favorite -- SKEEBALL! The restaurant/bar has seating for maybe 20 4-high top, but there's a lot more room in there as well. When people picked songs on the jukebox, it was way to loud. After all, this isn't a dance club and no one needs to listen to Journey on full blast at 6pm.

We drank Sam Adams summer ale cause it was on tap and split a small pizza (more than enough for 2). I enjoyed their menu -- the titles were inventive, even if the toppings were not. Unfortunately, there hadn't yet received in some ingredients (tomatoes arriving tomorrow, apparently). I thought the pizza was solid -- maybe the sauce was too tomato paste-y for most folks, but I enjoyed that.

Will be interesting to see how this place gets it's legs.. The simplicity of it I think suits the Haymarket -- you come for beer and pizza.  However, it would be nice to have a few appetizers (salad even) in case you're not in the mood for a full pizza.
