Funky little ice cream shack that makes a fun variety of sundaes and shakes... the lines take a while on summer weekends because people are just overwhelmed with the choices.  The folks behind the counter are professional and quick.  If you've got the time, order the fried chicken plate - it'll take 16 minutes (as they'll carefully tell you), but it'll be hot and good!

Excellent fried chicken, delicious shakes, ice cream cones, burgers, and more.  You can't go wrong with the Frosty for lunch or a treat after hiking.  This place has been around for a long time, so you know it is good.

One of the things I'll remember most about my trip to Lassen National Park. I wish there were more places like this around SF -- onion rings and burger were delicious -- and the chocolate shake -- amazing!

If a "run of the mill, hole in the wall" frosty joint is what you want, go here. The price is a little more than I'm used to, especially for freezer fries and generic hamburger buns.  The food is good, but there is nothing memorable about the meal.  I go here mostly for the sweet treats.  The ice-cream is delicious!  A visit for the ice-cream is worth it.

There's one lady who works there (not one of the young girls) who is quite rude!  We went there twice during our two visits and both times she was rude.  She snapped at my eight year old because he almost spilled his soda.  And then when we asked for napkins, she was very hesitant (we have two kids!).  Also, I asked for an extra fork and she was no pleased.  Unfortunate because it's a fun place and the ice cream is great!

we love Pine Shack Frosty.  Every time we visit Lake Almanor we go there.  It's a tradition.  Excellent comfort food and good old fashioned food.  Others reviewing talk of the selection - I'm here to tell you it's great.

I have been coming this place for 29 years.  I don't even live in Chester and live in central Ca.  It has always been a great, clean place to eat.  Great food and great service.  I have great childhood memories of this place.  You will truly miss what Chester has to offer if you don't visit the Pine Shack Frosty.

if you like puking, having diarrhea, and not sleeping well then this is the spot for you!

after a long day of fishing me and my friends went in here and i got the fireman.  it tasted ok on the way down, but alas it was not to remain down.  about 30min later i was puking violently and could not sleep well that night at all.  i suspect that those teenage girls behind the counter are not up to date on their food safety regulations! eff you guys 4realdo!

After hiking around Lassen Volcanic National Park, drive in here for super-thick milkshakes made in dozens of flavors. The chocolate-peanut butter combo was amazing, esp. when I'd just hiked 7 miles. Expect to wait, but it's worth it. Did I mention it's pretty cheap, too?

After hiking all afternoon in Lassen Park, the Pine Shack Frosty seemed as delicious to me as a chef's tasting menu from the French Laundry.

I got the De-Luxe Burger, which is just pretty much a regular burger with a thousand islandy sauce, fries and a tiny drink for about $6. They have literally like 40 different shake flavors. And their small soft serve ice cream is like a foot tall -- a good deal.

The Shack has been in Chester for ages. They have their original menu on the wall listing the old prices (five cents for a soft serve! Those must of been the days.)

It's clean, the girls that work there are friendly, and it's pretty popular. The lines were long on my two trips there during a weekend at Lake Almanor. But it is kinda slow. The outdoor seating was dog friendly.

The best part? If Lassen erupts while you order, it's free!

The milkshakes are sensational, lots of choices and you can mix flavors to your heart's desire.  The rest of the food is mehh so-so.

After walking around in Lassen National Park all day, I felt a trip to Like Almanor was in order, and with it would come ice cream. I drove into town and this was the first shop I saw advertising ice cream. I screeched to a halt. For $7, my boyfriend and I got a hot fudge sunday with everything on it (cherry, whipped cream, nuts) and a chocolate-marshmellow milkshake. Wow. One of those would have been enough for two. Both wonderfully sweet and yummy but so rich! Oh wait, I shouldn't be complaining.

Very greasy food.  Perhaps that's why it's so tasty?  I had a chocolate banana shake and a cheeseburger.  Yummy!

yes, yummy sinful greasy goodness. excellent location right on Main Street, th wait for food isn't normally too long even on a busy summer day. And Ayse B. is right, the map is way off...the map makes it look like it's at the tip of the lake's peninsula.

I got the largest softserve ice cream possible here for $1.88! And despite the defective cone, I was able to eat it without spilling one bit on my clothes!

Can someone double check the map? I don't remember seeing Lake Almanor from the Pine Shack, it's located right off Hwy 89.
