PJ's Pub wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be, but I have a feeling it may be because I went on rainy Friday night on Memorial Day weekend.
The place was packed, my friend and I could barely maneuver around without sloshing our drinks. Â However, we were lucky and did manage to score two seats at the end of the bar very quickly. Â The couple sitting next to me were surprised at how busy it was and they seemed to be regulars. I will definitely be back to try out what looks to be an awesome wing menu at great prices!
Update to follow!
So one of my buddies refers to himself as the "Wing Master" so when he seemed excited to try PJ's out, I knew i was in safe hands.
They have an incredibly friendly staff, a variety of wings and numerous themed events. On Mondays they have $0.35 wings and $8 pitchers of beer. My first visit we ordered two pitchers and 50 wings for just over $30. Yikes!
At this point I'm a regular and my favorite wing flavors are spicy thai peanut, peanut butter & jelly, and Asian chili. With the exception of the lemon pepper which is a sharp rub, their wing sauces are subtle and can be enjoyed by anyone from the strictest critics to the casual wingers. It can get loud but PJ's is just a great place to meet some friends, unwind and enjoy some good food with a variety of happy hour specials. ONE OF MY FAVORITES!
Food: A+
Atmosphere: B+
Service: A
Final Grade: A
I worked down the street from here for a few years and it was the after work go to place for a beer. The atmosphere here is fabulous, they mix it up at night between a dj and live music. Kevin Herchen is probably one of my favorite people to see here :).
The food is fabulous. I've had a few of their sandwiches and am never disappointed. I didn't realize the wings were that good but i'll definately be trying them soon. The pb&j wings seem interesting and something i'll have to try,
The drinks are fantastic and they do ladies night on thursdays i believe and we usually went then.
I can't say enough good things about the owner and the staff. The bartenders are quick and efficient and super friendly, the waitresses make you feel like even if its your first time there... that they've known you forever. THey're super friendly and extremely attentive. The owner is always talking with customers and makes you feel like he's known  you forever.
They have themed parties all the time... and it's our tradition to go on st patty's day. They go all out.
From what i hear they expanded to Johnston, Â i'll have to check it out.
Stopped in for a beer and some wings. The bartender was very personable to start. I tried their wings 50/50 split salt and vinegqr and lemon pepper. The s&v were good but not what i expected. However the lemon pepper were out of this galaxy... I will be back to try the maple buff and thai peanut wings.
Review Source:I can't understand why this place has parties. Â When there is a DJ there, there is no space to move whatsoever. Â If I wanted to get rubbed up on by an overweight stranger while they dance to Flo Rida than this place would be perfect. Â But.... I don't. Â
I've eaten there a few times and while I love the Asian Chicken salad, Â everything else that I have tried is just so-so. Â I am definitely interested in trying the PB&J wings (have not yet)
On the plus side, service is always great  (5 stars for that)
Every time I have been there the bartenders and servers have been very attentive
Food (3 stars)
Weekend atmosphere (negative stars??) Â Although I truly enjoy watching drunk 40 somethings try and dance on a 3 foot dance floor, Â Â I don't want to stand shoved in a corner getting elbowed by people trying to get to the one person bathroom.
PJ's is a great little local pub for drinks and yummy food. I've driven by a million times and have always wondered how such a tiny place can be so busy all time time! Once I went in, I understood.
The service is friendly and fast, the drinks are great, the beer selection is extensive and the food is really good. The wings are awesome and the sandwiches are delicious. The covered patio is a nice place to sit in the warmer months and it's easy to forget that you're right on busy Pontiac Ave.
All in all, PJ's is a cool spot for a night out.
I'm not big on the loud bar scene. Fairly cheap for Blue Moons.
Real good Sunday deal - $2 domestic beer.
Went here on a Friday night around 10... and proceeded to get hit on by a 50 year old.. HOWEVER he was real cool when realizing my age & shook my hand. The DJ was loud & playing cliche music. Eh. Not my thing. Gets crowded quick.
On nights where its quieter (i.e.; Wednesdays) its a nice place to grab a few beers with an old friend & catch up.
Lemon. Pepper. Wings.
Close your eyes, take one bite of these wings and you'll be whisked away to a gourmet culinary retreat. Open your eyes back up and you'll realize you're at 25 cent wing night (every Monday) at a local neighborhood bar.
Lemon Pepper not your thing? There are over over 10 flavors to choose from including Peanut Butter & Jelly!! Â I'm a huge fan of those too!
The service was excellent! The watiresses (dress in Patriots gear) kept the table clear and the wings coming! They made sure to refresh our napkin (your fingers WILL get dirty) and wet nap supply.
I strongly recommend you check out their wing night!
WOW!!! CAN YOU SAY AMAZING WINGS!?
Delicious! I would recommend this place because it is not just any pub. Everyone is awesome, the prices are reasonable & their themed parties are a BLAST. So much fun! The owner is great, very active in his business delivering what customers want every day. He is always smiling and checking to make sure everyone is happy. When driving by you should stop in for lunch, or for an awesome dinner. you won't regret it!!
I went to PJ's last Friday afternoon with a couple of friends for a late lunch and a few drinks. Â I have been to PJ's at least a handful of times in the past and always had a pretty good time. Â We were hungry and two of us ordered the triple decker PB & J. Â It was listed on the menu under sandwiches and it clearly stated "All sandwiches served with fries and a pickle". Â We thought excellent! Our sandwiches came out without fries and we were told "oh this sandwich is an exception" at which point we referenced the menu and the waitress was very dismissive and simply said "I'll look into it." Â No offer to correct THEIR error.
The third person in our party ordered the spinach dip. Â She had ordered it before and knew she liked it. Â When it arrived at our table it was essentially a cheesy spinach ball sitting in a big puddle of oil. Â It was so unappealing she had to send it back. Â There was no offer of an apology or anything even remotely close.
So we sat there for a bit... finished our food, had a few drinks. Â After our apathetic waitress brings the check, the owner comes out to find out why we were dissatisfied. Â We explained to him about the menu error, bad food and dismissive waitress. Â He did not offer an apology... rather he said that she was their BEST waitress and that she would never be dismissive. Fine. OK. Getting pissed at this point. Then he said he made the menu himself and in 4 years nobody has ever pointed out this error. OK you made the menu yourself. Do you want a medal? You didn't fix YOUR error. He was "sorry" that the spinach dip was horrid.
My point is... this is your business. Fix your errors. The menu clearly stated fries were included... honor it. Â After basically sticking up for his poor waitstaff and making excuses for his error on the menu he walked away telling us to ask for him next time.
Next time? Yeah... right.
BANGIN' service here, folks.
Ok so: came here for a Yelp event a month or so ago, and thought the service was fantastic then but decided to reserve judgment until I came for realz.
Yup, still fantastic. Friendly, attentive, but not overbearing. The owner came by to check on us, and the waitresses never let a drink run dry. Our waitress was great-even offered some recommendations for cocktails and was super fun.
The food is good-regular pub fare, but what sets this joint apart is the service. On that note, the chili is pretty bangin', too. And they have Harpoon Raspberry Wheat on draft. Please and thank you.
The thing I like most about PJ's is the service and good attitude of the employees. It has the feel of a local bar whose owner or owners really care about how you're doing.  If you walk in on a busy night and it seems there is no place to sit the owner will literally shift  people at the bar or surrounding area to accommodate you. I hate walking into a bar and just standing there not knowing where to go because the place is full. I never feel that way when I go to PJ's.
The Jukebox is average unless you're there on a slow weeknight. Â It seems one of the kitchen staff is quite fond of country and if no one is playing music you'll be stuck listening to that.
They frequently have a DJ. I think most Saturdays. Good energy.
Monday night is the best to eat. 25 cent wings and 8 dollar domestic pitchers.  You can't really go wrong with that. I suggest  you call ahead if you want to sit, otherwise you may be waiting.
As far as the food goes(other than wing night), I try not to come here hungry. Â The chicken is most often very overcooked and dry. Â I've had it more than a few times, Â so I know what I'm talking about. Â The steak and cheese is typically over-salted, the burger is so-so, it all pretty much tastes like frozen from restaurant depo food.
I would be over my head with excitement if I bit into a burger and it tasted like it was fresh ground beef that someone made into pattys, or the steak was seared medium rare and then sliced before putting into a bun and serving.
Those picky food things are what would make this a five star review. Â Most people aren't that choosey about their bar food.
Over all, I really like this bar and come here more often than any other pub. Â I'm happy to give them my business and I think they do a great job.
As far as bars in Rhode Island go, you could say that PJ's Pub is my watering hole. If I have a beer in my hand, that's probably where I'm drinking it. Not only is it a very convenient locations for Cranston area residents who don't want to trek too far for a cold one, the atmosphere is good, the food is great, and the drinks are cheap. The first time I ordered a draft beer there and was told it was under $4 I had to double check. I haven't had a beer that cheap in ages!
As far as the food goes, it seriously puts other bar food to shame. They have a pretty extensive menu, from salads and sandwiches to many many varieties of chicken wings, there's something for everyone at PJ's. 25 cent wing night on Mondays is a good time to visit if you're a wing fanatic. The list of flavors is impressive. The Spicy Thai Peanut is a solid choice, and the Buffalo is classic, definitely doesn't disappoint.
Service is also great. The servers will regularly take notice and ask if you want another drink. No waiting around for decades to keep the drinks coming. They are super friendly and efficient.
I'll keep returning to PJ's again and again for this and many other reasons. If you haven't check it out yet, I hope you will stop in for a beer and wings next time you're in the 'hood.
I've been here a few times, and every time I have a great time! Â The owner has a lot of presence and I see him walking around checking on things and chatting up tables every time I'm in. Â Drinks are killer, scorpion bowls a must! Â
Super laid back atmosphere, great service... If you're looking for a place to unwind and drink this is the place to be!
Wiiiiiiingsssssss!! I could've probably eaten a whole tray of those suckers. They have tons of flavors and all that I tried were deeeeelish!! It's a small space but it serves it's purpose well. Get some drinks, get some grub and hang the heck out. The outdoor patio is perfect for a warm summer day. The waitstaff were very attentive and made sure you had a drink in hand at all times. But yeah, probably go on Monday and gorge yourself on .25 cent wings.
Review Source:The staff here are extra good, it's clear that the management must really care about service. Â In fact, the owner will probably come up and personally introduce himself to you if he notices you as a new face. Â My office has after work parties here fairly often and they always rave about the food. Â This is a great little bar in Cranston!
Review Source:Wanted to write a more current review for this favorite local pub. Since my last review (about a year ago), PJ's has become the official after-work spot for me and my co-workers.
From the outside PJ's appears to be a standard corner pub, but once you step inside it's obvious what makes it different:
2 main things-
The service and the food.
Many local corner pubs serve food, as we all know. What sets PJ's apart from the norm is the quality of food that they serve. Most of the time when you order food at a bar, we more or less suffer through it. PJ's, on the contrary, serves great pub fare. Their pizza is outstanding. I usually just go for a cheese pizza, but I've tried it a few different ways. They have a perfect thin crust (not too dry like other thin crust) and use just the right amount of basil and seasoning. They are also very well known for their wings (they offer 10+ varieties, including peanut butter & jelly).
Aside from the food, their is a very noticeable difference in the service. To start, they have a cocktail staff- servers walking around bringing people drinks (not standard for a pub). But it doesn't stop there... the staff at PJ's seems to operate within a system that most other establishments can barely implement, let alone master. You will not wait more then 2 minutes for a drink here (typically), and they'll ask you if you want one almost always at the perfect time. Tables and groups are not assigned specific waiters/waitresses; they all work as a team, so if you need a drink- you will get one.
Drafts are ALWAYS reasonably priced, so even your friends with the lightest pockets have no excuse not to join you for a beer here after work.
Phenomenal.
Monday night is wing night: make a rez! (ya, apparently they are so good there's a line out the door when they're on sale).
Ive lived in Rhode Island now for almost ten years and been to just about every bar, restaurant you can imagine. The night life in rhode islands gets very old very fast. A buddy of mine introduced me to PJ's almost 2 years ago. PJ's is without a doubt the best atmosphere with the best prices in town. But what makes PJ's awesome and unique is the quality food and drink all with incredible service. The staff is extremely friendly and will always make sure your drink is cold and on a coaster. The menu is endless and the wings are the best in the state. If your a wing fan and like variety your a fool not to go there every Monday night for Wing Night. For those of you looking for a place with great prices, great music, great food and even better people PJ's is a must.
Review Source:A pretty typical RI dive bar. The bartenders and waitresses are friendly. The crowd is your typical mix. The food is hit or miss. Small menu. The beer is cold and the drinks strong. A local favorite hangout of some friends. As long as your expectations are not too high you will enjoy it.
Review Source:THE WORST cheeseburger ever. Â The bartenders were rude, surly and not "hot" at all like the other reviewers are claiming (unless the typical, gum snapping, irritating guidette with an attitude, a ghetto booty and a fake bake thing is what you consider "hot"). Â In fact, the whole place was very typical middle class/ late 30's RI- ie, a bunch of effeminate looking greaseballs trying to act tough, calling each other "kid" and "buddy" and arguing about their local sports teams. Â I'll take a pass on this one.
