SE corner of Main St. and 20th St.
I seriously cannot believe I never reviewed this place before.... why you ask? Well because the food is great, I love the selection of various quality Pure Cane Sugar Sodas that are offered as well (hence the name,) and I love the decor which tips the proverbial hat to geekdom!
I've been here a couple of times on various visits and each time proved quite enjoyable. For example I had their Cheshire Cat Dog: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… which is a nice quality Nathan's Hot Dog which of course provided a nice snap with each bite and came with Cilantro, Onions, Mushrooms, and Mayo as well as some sort of BBQ Sauce. I've also had their Pecos Bill Dog: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… which is yet another snappy Nathan's Dog with BBQ sauce, bleu cheese, and bacon so yes a fairly simple combination, but still quite delicious. I absolutely loved both these dogs and cannot believe I dropped the ball on this one.
Continuing with the comfort food theme I've had some of their sides too like their Tater Tots: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… basic, very crunchy, not overly fried, and flavorful. A dip into a pool of ketchup launched these bad boys into the flavorshpere! I've tried their Onion Rings: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… again I found the rings flawless. They were nice and crunchy, flavorful, and not greasy at all. I truly enjoyed these. Their sides come in portions of a 1/4 lb. all they up to a full lb. depending on what type of appetite you are rocking.
This place is a cool place to hang out, enjoy some great food, and possibly kick back some unique high quality sodas. They have a stage for beat poets and comedians to perform on. There are quite a few board games and a pool table for patrons to enjoy during their stay. The comic book memorabilia is really cool.
Service has always been really nice, informative, and welcoming.
Parking is on the nearby streets, but shouldn't prove challenging.
Man....after all that....turns out they're closed!!!
Made our first visit today after they were suggested by a relative. Not sure I am going to take their suggestions without doing proper research first next time :)
The selections of toppings for your dog are vast, I only wish the girl taking my order had gotten everything on my dog that I had asked for. They advertise Nathan's hot dogs but are actually using Hebrew National which I personally think is a good thing as I am not a huge fan of Nathan's.
If you are in the market for a soda from other parts of the country, this is probably the place for you. They have 4 big coolers with a pretty big variety of bottled goodness.
They have a pool table that is free to use and tons of board games to keep you occupied for hours. The down side is that there are only 2 booths and I a few tables so, if you are not the first ones in, you might be eating on the run.
I would have given 2 stars, but they did allow me to go half-and-half with tater tots and waffle fries so I have to say that they are somewhat flexible.
Bottom line, next time I need a hot dog fix, I will go to Costco and get one with a soda for $1.50.
Growing up in New Jersey, our best trips were to Johnny's Hot Dog Stand to get hot dogs and birch beer. Â It was awesome! Â Pop Culture immediately brought me back. Â I went with the Boylan's Creamy Red Birch Beer. Â It was so good. Â I took a sip and just sighed... it was that good. Â They offer a variety of dogs (Nathans), sauces and toppings. Â You can build your own masterpiece and lots of sides to go with it.
All that aside, this is a pop shop featuring over 300 kinds of soda!!! Â
Open casual setting with free WI-FI, board games and a stage for live music. Â They have different music on different nights. Â On the day I was here, it was a bluegrass jam session that is open to anyone who wants to play. Â Oh, and did I mention they have hula hoops. Â
The guys working there were friendly and very helpful with all of my questions. Â They make everyone feel very welcome. Â This is a great place to go savor a soda, dog and hang for awhile. Â I have come across very few places that are this welcoming and genuinely want you to stay for awhile. Â This is a keeper. Â :)
