A nice dinner... Nothing overly notable, but nothing bad either. Service was good but you could tell that the waiter serving the table next to us knew a lot more about the menu than our waitress. Fried oysters were cooked perfectly and lightly breaded, but the topping was heavy handed. Pad Thai was notable (best of the dishes we ordered). Lobster lemongrass soup was very good, even by thai standards, but they used crawfish instead of lobster. Grilled flounder lacked flavor... Seasoning would have helped. Seafood Alfredo was enjoyable and surprisingly light, but it could have used some more seafood. 3.5 stars to be exact - I'd go back, but not for a night that I wanted anything exceptional (unless I was dying for some solid pad Thai)
Review Source:Oh boy. Â this review is like the good, the bad and the ugly.
Port might be the best restaurant in Dewey Beach, but that is a reflection on the competition, not on Port.
Mostly, this restaurant offers amateurish service for amateurish patrons with some decent food. Â If you point out to a server that technically, your drink should arrive before your entree (30 minutes after ordering) you youthful, helpful server will point out that they are pretty busy and down one server, so they are doing the best they can.
Then, as you eat, you will feel like you have a ring-side seat at human race-track. Â Young men carrying huge red buckets full of ice will race past you to the other side of the bar, and back again. Â Waiters *actually* run with the entrees. It is quite the energetic experience.
Weirdly, the (grown up) owner is walking around, checking out how people are doing things. Â Evidently, to him, all of this amateur hour activity is normal.
If you want to know why we go, please go yourself and order a Thai dish, prepared by the Thai chef. Â Wow! Â 'Nuf said.
This was our first visit to the Port in Dewey, although I am no stranger to the area, and we enjoyed our meal. Â The only down side I found is that everything came out so fast...we were barely finished with our appetizer when our main course hit the linens. Â At least on the bright side we knew our meals were fresh and cooked to order.....the service was great our waitress was pleasant and professional even when we had a complaint, nothing major there was dust or something floating in one of the glasses of wine....she immediately took the glass back and returned with a fresh glass....a short time thereafter either the manager or bartender unknown which came over and apologized profusely about the wine. Â All in all I am confident that the Port is going to get us back there again and again......if your in the area check the place out.......
Review Source:Perhaps Port Dewey is not as good in the "off-season," but I cannot fathom how it received such rave reviews given my experience last week. Â I got there around 5:30 for an early dinner, and the place was totally empty. Â That should have been a clue because even mediocre Dewey/Rehoboth restaurants have SOME patronage in the winter. Â
The meal started off poorly when our waiter forgot to bring our drinks to the table; I watched the bartender make them, but then the glasses just sat on the bar for about 15 minutes. Â Unacceptable in an empty restaurant. Â
I ordered the pad thai and my gf got steak (in a port wine sauce) and mashed potatoes (she originally ordered broccoli, and the waiter was unaware that the kitchen was out of it). Â She ordered the steak medium rare, but it came out well done...not sure how the chef could have messed it up considering our meals were the only two he had to prepare. Â Perhaps that occurred because the waiter neglected to check if the kitchen had broccoli in the beginning. Â Additionally, our waiter informed us that the chef prohibits A1 steak sauce in the restaurant. Â Minus points for the chef's conceit. Â
I will never return to Port Dewey.
Small place. Â I can't imagin trying to get a table here on a holiday weekend. Â The waitress the kinda person who takes pride in her job, and it showed. Â She presented the menu items extremely well and gave great recommendations. Â I would say that the fried oysters with blue cheese and hot sauce might be my new favorite thing. Â They were awesome. Â I got the pad thai and it was probably the best I've ever had. Â If you are debating on where to go in Dewey, there is no doubt this is the place to go.
Review Source:We went on "Thai Thursday" so we had the spring rolls and pad thai. The pad thai is good, but different than any version I have ever had before. The chef grew up in Delaware but his family is Thai, so his cooking is influenced by both. My friend had the stuffed flounder which was delicious and a perfect portion. Dessert was a berry pound cake and fried brownie, both were fantastic. Cannot wait to go here again.
Review Source:Ok. Â I really don't write bad reviews very often, but when it comes to dinner on vacation.... Â this is serious business. Â When i go to the beach I'm looking for seafood restaurants to give me what I can't get in Pittsburgh. Â We went to Port on a recommendation from the front desk worker at our hotel. Â Later that night, my boyfriend and I reconsidered everything she'd ever said to us.
Let me also say that though I'm not a foodie or a food snob in any way, I do cook quite a bit and I know what good food is. Â This is NOT it.
Let's start with our own stupidity. Â We went there on a Tuesday night around 8 during the last week of July. Â We walked in to find employees standing around and a total of ONE table in the entire place. Â Bad sign during the busiest time of the year at the beach? Â I'd say so... Â but we sat down anyway. Â
We ordered cocktails. Â His was "ok". Â My martini was supposed to be some fruity citrus pleasure. Â If it wasn't Tang and vodka I'll eat my bathing suit. Â Gross. Â
For appetizers we got calamari which was nicely fried but the dipping sauce they gave us was scarcely more than tomato paste. Â We also got the tuna which was just ok and, frankly, the best part of the meal.
For our entrees we got the crab "stuffed" shrimp and the seafood etouffee. Â My first thought when our food arrived was "where's the rest our food?". Â My boyfriend's etouffee consisted of a scoop of rice with a handful of langostinos and maybe 3-4 shrimp in a pinky orange sauce that held no trace of anything that EVER came out of NOLA. Â Though it didn't taste BAD after adding a ton of salt, it was by no means etouffee. Â Very disappointing. Â Had I been so lucky with my meal I might not be spending a summer day writing a review of this place. Â My plate consisted of a little dish of soupy crab "dip" with 8 or so tiny overdone shrimp on the edge of the dish. Â Not good. Â Not nearly what I expected. Â I'm almost embarrassed at the number of crab stuffed shrimp I've eaten in my day.... Â these were horrifying to even look at. Â Then I took a bite and got a mouthful of shell. Â I spent my meal sifting through the "crab stuffing" trying to find a piece of crab and avoiding shells. Â Onto the "parmesan garlic mashed potatoes" I had as my side. Â I have no words for how bad these were. Â No trace of any flavor at all and a texture that is not of this world. Â I have had generic instant mashed potatoes that were 100x better than these. Â Honestly shockingly bad. Â How do you mess up a potato?? Â We took bite after bite of them just trying to figure out what the "chef" had DONE to them to make them that bad. Â And not to be picky, but even my asparagus was overdone and bitter. Â
When the waiter asked how our food was and we told him it was the worst meal we'd ever had, he said that it was because their head chef was off and there was a line cook doing all the work that night. Â Just as we were signing our bill, the manager came over to speak to us. Â He was very nice, but blamed the awfulness on a prep team and a blip or two in the kitchen. Â I seriously doubt that's the issue. Â He ended up comping our meals and we spent around $40 on the cocktails and appetizers. Â Â
$40 (plus a tip for the poor teenage waiter I felt sorry for) for the worst meal of my life. Â Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... Â beach memories.
I had dinner here summer and it wasn't very good. Â The service was super slow and they messed up 2 of the 3 orders that we had. Â We weren't very happy. Â But this is a new year so we decided to check it out this summer by stopping for a drink one Saturday afternoon and to look at the menu again. Â My husband was intrigued by the draft beer bottom up system so that entertained him for a while. Â There weren't many folks in there but it was early afternoon. Â The weird part was the whole time we were sitting at the bar, there was a dog wandering around, sitting on a stool with the paws and more up on the bar. Â I wasn't sure if it was the owner's dog? Â I'm not a dog lover but I would think that is some type of health code violation? Â That whole thing was strange so we didn't order and food and decided not to return later that week for dinner.
Review Source:Some friends and I had dinner there last night and were all pleasantly surprised. Â The food was great and our service from Brianna was wonderful too. Â I collect pint glasses with restaurant logos and when I asked the bartender (who turned out to be the owner) if I could buy my water glass, he gave me a clean one and said I could have it. Â We'll definitely be back.
Review Source:We couldn't even get service at Port!! After reading all of the reviews, we ordered a coupon on http://restaurants.com. Thinking that Monday night July 2nd, would be a good night to check it out. Â 1st off, we called when we were close by port, because we couldn't figure out where to park(everywhere in the area is permit parking during prime season). The girl that answered the phone told me that there is "metered parking on the street just north of Port" so I said great see you in a few minutes.
We drove around for 10 minutes to find that there is a metered parking LOT next to port....and that the metered lot only takes credit cards...so we paid $2.50 to park...OK..so as we were walking in the door of port...a guy was walking out...and he says to us."I hope ur not planning on eating here?!" my husband and I just look at each other..and we said yes we were.. Â The guy said good luck....it took us 2 hours to get served. and their chef just walked out! Â I looked in the dining room and
There were still people sitting at tables... As we walked up to the hostess...she informs us that they were all out of everything on the menu....and then my husband chimes in and said Yeah, it doesnt help that the chef walked out....and we had just called and whoever answered the phone could have told us this before we paid to park to eat here! Â The hostess just chuckled and said sorry! Â Since we already paid of 2 hours of parking...I asked her to recommend another place close by for dinner...she suggested The Cove, which was in the same parking lot as port...It was amazing! Â The service was great! Even though it was now almost 10 pm on a Monday night! They still had a few tables with people....I had the best scallops and my husband had the tuna which was very good! Â So I would skip Port restaurant and go right to the cove in Dewey beach!!
This place is the best place to go for dinner in Dewey Beach! Not only was the food and drink amazing, but the atmosphere and the staff were wonderful.
We went there for my friends 30th and we had the best time EVER. The entire staff, including the owner, the owner of the Port were so much fun. If you go in, ask for Randy. Great waiter and doubles as a tour guide to the area.
You absolutely must go to the Port if you are in Dewey. You will not regret it!
We were delighted to find so many good reviews for Port and a $10 for $20 voucher to top it off! It was within walking distance of our hotel. The atmosphere inside is charming and cozy. Our server was new but was very helpful and accommodating. The hush puppies were delicious. The crab cakes are to die for!! I got shrimp and crab imperial which wasn't too bad, but I wished I'd gotten the crab cakes. Bananas foster for dessert was the perfect way to end the evening. My only complaint is that they were out of scallops that night. We would definitely return to this restaurant on our next trip to Dewey!
Review Source:Hidden, yes. Worth finding, absolutely! We went here because we had a coupon and, oh my, were we surprised. The food is excellent. They even had kids menus. Crab Bruschetta - yum. The seafood etoufee - I almost ordered a second bowl it was so good. My wife had salmon and she said it was some of the freshest she's ever had. We can't wait to go back.
Review Source:Great service, perfectly cooked meal. Â I loved the options for the catch of the day! Â Choose how you want it cooked, then choose your sauce/topping! Our waitress offered excellent recommendations for combinations. Nice options for wine by the glass. It's not a big place, doesn't take reservations, and the bar is pretty small. Â We went pre-season, not super busy. Â I can only imagine how busy it is in the summer, but worth the wait. Â Best food I've ever had in Dewey.
Review Source:This is definitely a hidden gem at the beach and also the last thing I expected to find in the little town of Dewey Beach. Everyone here knows each other, the chef is as authentic as it comes, and the owners have been in the business for years...so they know what's up. Take the draft beer for example. Have you ever seen beer fill a cup from the bottom?! They make it happen here! You'll want to try the pad thai for sure, but there is so much more to enjoy. Have an Orange Crush while your at it! Ask for Mitch. He'll see you straight.
Review Source:I starting coming here to meet friends for wine and drinks. I am a young professional/business owner, a Washingtonian, and consider myself a foodie. One of the things I look for as a client of a restaurant is consistency. This place has got it! Port is a year round establishment, the atmosphere can change depending on the time of day, it's small, quaint, a bar and a small restaurant. Come early for a fantastic meal with Mom, or come late for a drink and meal with your friends. Mitch, one one of the owners/managers really knows his wine, he puts a lot of effort into picking wine with an appreciation for them and always seems to have something new on the list. What I admire most about many establishments in this area is that some of the owners really do like what they do. Its apparent by their success that Zach and Mitch really love what they are doing, it's reflected in their service and their fantastic food. I recently had a Ribeye with Crab Imperial topper, another night the Soft Shell Crab Stuffed with Crab imperial. Both plates were not just fantastic, they were stellar! Â In summary, Port is a laid back dining atmosphere, presentation is simple.Their creativity is in the food, the wine, and the apparent energy they devote to pleasing every single person who walks through the door. If you appreciate these small things, coupled with fantastic food and wine, you won't be disappointed!
Review Source:Hands down the best overall food in Dewey! Â Great Prices, the have great daily specials. Â Great atmosphere, staff (Except Mitch he's a pain in the....(only kidding), and live music.
Favorite two items on the menu are the Pad Thai, and any of the oyster dishes. Â But the steak and fish dishes are excellent, as well.
Definitely worth a try if you are from out of town, at any time of the year.
Best dinner I've had in Dewey in several years, although that's a relative statement. Perfect if you don't feel like going up to Rehoboth. Well-prepared seafood dishes. An excellent soft-shell crab and a respectable crab imperial-stuffed flounder. Great bisque and hushpuppies. Really hope it's still here when we're back next summer.
Review Source:I have to start by saying I am probably a bit biased. Â Port sits right in front of my condo in Dewey Beach, so we are hoping they will stick around for awhile.
Since they are so close, we go in and out of there quite a bit. Â Often 2-3 times in a single weekend. Â We have tried several items on the menu, as well as the daily specials, and have enjoyed them all. Â The fried oysters are a treat and the seafood portions are generous. Â Their wraps make for a yummy lunch. Â Back around Easter my husband had the biggest single softshell crab I have ever seen...and it was tasty too. Â
The cocktails are innovative: Â I love their blood orange crush and margaritas made with fresh squeezed lime juice.
My one complaint is that sometimes they seem to be a bit overwhelmed. And although we have not experienced it, Â I have heard over and over from several of my local friends that they like the food, but did not like waiting for it.
I am a BIG BIG BIG fan of the Port. It seems like it's a new place -and it is adorable, and pretty darn fantastic. We found it on a Wednesday nite - where they had pub trivia (akin to quizzo), and the Phillies (the bars in Dewey seem split between Baltimore allegiance and Philadelphia allegiance). Â The food was delicious (not on their menu - but one of the best things I ate there - was the homemade potato chips. Â Also really like the salad I had, the drinks they made (including a freshly made tangerine crush - unlike the orange crushes made everywhere else), and the other foods all seemed great. Â The staff was really nice, the ambiance was great, and the patrons all seemed to be regulars. My friend had the bisque, which she appreciated greatly - and a drink called the jungle juice that was only $2 on happy hour special! I recommend stopping in here if you are around Dewey!!
