Went there on a Sunday night and my wife ordered pozole blanco and I ordered the pozole verde. Â Both were delicious and and very tasty. I was impressed with spread they bring with pozole which is diced onions, chopped radishes, chopped cabbage, avocado, tostadas & pork skins. Â I added all these condiments plus chili pepper & oregano and it reminded me of the times my grandma made this for special family gatherings.
My daughter ordered only 1 chicken taco and I tried a bite and that was good too.
The only reason I gave 4 stars was because while we were eating there was fruit flies flying around and we got really annoyed with having to eat and every two minutes swiping our hands in the air. Â I hope they fix this problem!!
I only went here because I saw it on Chicagos Best TV.
I have 12 years of Pozole eating experience. I have not only eaten Pozole from my friends mothers table who is from Mexico, but I have also made it myself after being taught by her. Needless to say, this Pozole is as good as it gets. And the fact that they serve it 3 different ways(white/verde/red) just makes this place that much better. The kicker though to the whole experience is the Chicharon that accompanies it. Damn!!! I have never tried to dip my Chicharon in some Pozole, but whoa buddy, that salty, pork flavor just kicked up the whole soup by about ten degrees. Why hadn't I ever thought to do it this way is beyond me. So much better than just cracking some tostada into the soup. I literally was leaving the chicharon half-in half-out so it would soak and soften it up. It was killing me it was so damn good. Sheesh, before I forget, the Pozole I tried was the Verde style. Now, I am not sure how you eat your Pozole but I prefer a ton of lime and also a generous amount of salt, since the ingredients in Pozole are not always the most flavorful, especially hominy which is just filler. I also like a mad amount of chopped onion, cabbage and radish to kick it up a few extra notches. Finally, if you are any bit like me, you will ask for a fresh plate of Jalapenos to munch on, especially good with some salt on top, to really bring the entire meal together. Yeah boy, this dish was money!!!
Enjoy Suckas'!!!
BIG shout out to my coworker and friend Javier. We had been talking at work the other day how much we both like pozole. So he recommended I try this place. This is the perfect cold weather comfort food! Since it's been a few weeks since I've had it, I've been craving it. I asked the 'ole hubby to get some on his way back from work Saturday. It was our first time trying this place! He got an order of green *and* the red pozole. Both were good, but I liked the red best! The portion was HUGE! He paid about $26 but he got two big containers of the pozole, all the trimmings (chicharron, oregano, onion, radish, lime and even avocado!) and two hot chocolates. So I think for the portion size, that was a good deal. We ended up eating it over two meals so I think that is quite a value.
Pozole is usually served only on weekends so this place is cool because pozole is their thing -and they serve it ALL THE TIME. This could be dangerous, as it's located on the way home from work. Ah well. It's some good stuff.
If you like pozole...give 'em a try!
I liked the red pozole here, but I didn't think it was that flavorful. It was really good, just not great, with a little too much hominy. I really wanted a super flavorful broth, and more of it. Adding some of the pepper flakes improved that, but the star here is actually not the pozole in my opinion.
The real reason to go here is the al pastor tostada. It has parmesan cheese sprinkled on top and for some reason, it tastes perfect. Â The most delicious al pastor I've ever had was from a little restaurant that served only that in Sayulita, Mexico. Tacos El Ivan.
I think this pastor is the only one that comes close, with the intense flavor and sweet pineapple.
Go here and just get the al pastor tostadas.
I was on day 3 of recovering from the flu and a double ear infection. i decided to pick up some Pozole to help with my sinuses and stuffiness.. I can only speak of the red - i wasnt adventurous enough to try the white or green : ). It was delicious! I choose pork for my meat and they were generous with the portion.. there is a little spice to it, so I wouldn't recommend for little ones.
I ordered 1 order of the pozole and I was able to get about 3-4 bowls out of it. Can't beat that for under 10 bucks!
The pozole here is amazing! I love love love it. But i'm asian, and i was given plenty of awkward stares from the waiters and chefs, but really, im just here for the food. It just kind  of made it seem awkward, and my waiter ended up dropping the plate of tostadas, which made things a bit more awkward too. Usually this doesnt happen, but honestly this is probably the best pozole in chicago, or at least what i know of.
Review Source:There is an impressive mural of a man cliff jumping to the sea. The place is lit by red white and green neon- to match the pozoles on offer. I saw the stock simmering under a lid. I saw bus tubs full of hominy. I watched an hour long telenovela that ended with a sweating, panting older man begging a woman with intense burning eyes for his pills while apparently dying of a heart attack. The end- a cliffhanger. I had limonada, pozole with chicharrones, gelatina de limon and a lime flavored candy.
Review Source:My boyfriend was looking for a rest. that served menudo during the week and so we thought we would give this place a try. Â
The food was great. Â I had a torta which was delicious and my boyfriend of course had the menudo and he thought it was orgasmic. Â The price was average and we walked out paying no more than $25 for the meals, including drinks. Â The place is small but wasn't crowded, but we did go on a weekday night.
We def. will be going back for the menudo the only personal complain is that the rest. is not right off a major expressway which makes it about a 45 minute drive w/o taking traffic into consideration.
I hate to be the jerk who brings their rating down but oh well, I call it how I see it. Had the Green Pozole, it was okay at best. Needed a lot of lime to get the taste to my liking. The garnish options are quite plentiful including avocado and REAL chicharron, but unfortunately this is where the praise ends. I sampled the Red Pozole the better half ordered and the taste was less than appetizing. I wanted to love this place as usually you can only find this stuff usually on weekends and they serve it at all times, but I won't be frequenting this place anytime soon. It just really doesn't do it for me.
Review Source:I love pozole, and when I heard that this place offers three flavors of pozole, I decided that I must try them all. Luckily I went with two friends and so we all ordered a different color each -- white, green, and red.
The white option was plain, but that's good because you get to flavor it yourself. I love the green and the red. The red is what I'm used to so that's the one I got, but I think I like the green just a little bit more. I've never added avocado or pork rinds before, but I loved it. It added a different texture to the soup and tasted delicious with it. I wish they had given us some cilantro though, I think that would have made it more flavorful for me.
I love pozole! Always have always will. Thing is it's hard to get sometimes. Restaurants usually only have it on weekends. This place serves it 7 days a week. Â
A friend of mine told me about it a few weeks ago. Yesterday I was feeling under the weather. I drove here to grab some. I'm so glad I did :) Ive only had red pozole and he asked me if I wanted red, white or green! I felt like a newb. Â I just got the red since that's what I'm used to.
I got home and was ready! They give you a half of a avocado, diced onions, lime, cabbage and radish on the side. Oh don't let me forget the crisy tacos and chiccaron (pork rinds) mmmm.
It was so good I can't wait to go back home and finish it. And to try the other 2 colors :)
I like this place....one of the few you can get Pozole seven days a week (most are just weekends) and one of VERY few that have all three varieties available (usually just white and red; green is a relative rarity, from Guerrero only, I think). Â Almost everything I've had there was good; they're not particularly cheap but not pricey, either, and on weekends they're one of the few places in that neighborhood open 24/7. Â One of the kids who works weekend nights is kind of a snotty lil shithead, but I think he's gone now. Â Oh, and though the place is quite clean, you'll reek after you're here, not unusual for Mexican restaurants.
Review Source:Looks small from the outside but there's plenty of tables. Â They have posole and menudo 7 days a weeks. Â The posole is available in the three colors of the Mexican flag - red, green and white. Â Posole is available with either shredded chicken or pork as the meat stock.
On a bad note, sometimes they have the TV and the jukebox on at the same time... LOUD ... VERY LOUD. Â That's when you just shut up and eat.
Great hours if you need a cure for your hangovers.
8 a.m.-1 a.m. Sunday-Thursday; open 24 hours Friday-Saturday
