By Far one of Long Islands best spots to hang out at! Great Food, drinks, cold beer and plenty of things to do!!! 29 Pool Tables, huge bar, televisions everywhere showing all the games and sporting events! Â They have a private VIP room for rent. Â Look out for the daily specials and events!!
Review Source:Nice huge spot, great place to chill, a cool bar, alot of pool tables to choose from, a "dj" and many tvs to watch. This is Raxx.
Came here on a date on a late Sunday night, nice dim lighting, we had a really good time playing, even tho it took us an hour because we both sucked. We were able to sit down next to our table and talk. Waitress delivered drinks to us, very attentive, funny, and helpful.
Def an amazing time. I can imagine how much better is on weekends. Will def come back, highly recommend.
GREAT BAR!!!! Â I was there last week to kill some time, and ended up staying the whole night. Â The bartender was very friendly and made the overall experience enjoyable. Â There were great specials ($10 for any pitcher and $5 Patron shots) and the food was delicious with large portions. Â After a few rounds, I convinced my girlfriend and her friends that they needed to meet me at Raxx rather than go to RVC.
Once they showed up, there were not enough bar stools for everyone. The bartender was very accommodating and got the bar-back to bring a few stools over from an unoccupied pool table. Â The drinks that he made for them were strong, but not overbearing. Â Everyone in the place was friendly and seamed to have been there before. Â Most of the people who came in for the bar knew the bar tender by name, and didn't even have to order their drinks. Â We did not play pool that night, but I will definitely be going back to Raxx soon and plan on playing then.
My opinion on Raxx is split decisively between it's bar and it's pool hall/service. Â The 3-stars comes as an accumulation of both areas of the place, so please keep that in mind.
Raxx's bar is well stoked and, visually, kept very nice. Â However, it's bartending staff is something to be desired. Â A friend and I sat at the bar for THIRTY MINUTES, hand raised, eyes locked on the bartender, who did everything in her power to avoid us. Â She tended to the 'regulars' at the center of the bar, passed us by without so much as a smile. Â Eye contact was made, and she knew that we weren't at the bar for the comfortable seats - yet, she never gave us ONE SINGLE DRINK. Â I advise ANYONE who goes to Raxx to skip the bar entirely and head straight to the Pool Hall.
The hall itself is fantastic. Â The pool tables are consistently kept in nice condition (I've been there on/off for the last 3 years to see the progressive maintenance). Â The pool cues, quite recently, have seemingly been switched to newer ones with better ends. Â And the hall itself is quite spacious - so the annoying factor of having to wait for the table next to you to finish a shot is far less annoying.
The service at the poll hall is excellent. Â The wait staff in this area, despite sometimes being understaffed, handles the load VERY well. Â While not the friendliest of the bunch (as not so much as a smile came off a few of them), they still get the job done - which is more than I can say for the bar staff.
POSITIVES:
- Visually, a very nice pool hall and bar.
- Pool Tables are spacious, so there's not much elbow-rubbing with your neighboring tables.
- Good Happy Hour Specials (4PM-7PM Weekdays)
- Parking is VERY easy at Raxx, a redeeming quality of any business.
- Owner of Raxx is a really nice guy and very helpful. Â Nice to see business leadership that doesn't anger you. Â This guy runs a good ship for the most part, as much as he can with only one pair of eyes.
- Solid music, and great atmosphere. Â Good for a guy's night out, or a fun date.
NEGATIVES:
- Food is NOT reasonably priced - quite expensive actually for the cheapest of things (i.e. Mozzarella Sticks, that are likely just frozen and warmed up, cost $8 - a rip off in my opinion).
- Bartenders are horrible and don't know how to give a good experience to newcomers at the bar and tend to play 'favorites'. Â This isn't high school - this is a business. Â Everyone's money is green.
Huge pool hall with like 25 tables. A bar and a medium size lounge area with leather chairs and tables and a big ass tv. I also found a private VIP pool room in the back by the tables for those of you who like to be exclusive.
I came after happy hour so it wasn't as cheap as i wanted it to be but it wasnt too pricey either. $7 for sweet potato fries and $8 for 6 mozzarella sticks. Both were mediocre. Kind of wish i had the wings they looked delicious.
The bartenders were very nice. My friend thought the wine smelled and tasted funny the bartender kindly agreed and immediately replaced it with a glass from a freshly opened bottle.
The only problem is that the DJ after 10 pm just starts blasting radio music in a terrible order and a siren app on his laptop to introduce some songs that youve heard on the radio a hundred times. Its way too loud for the lounge area cause we couldn't even hear each other anymore. Its not a club buddy its a pool hall.
Lastly: The bathrooms were pretty clean for a bar/pool hall.
Something at this place made me terribly sick the next day. I don't know if it was the drinks ( I had 2 Oceans Elevens & a shot) or the food, but I don't think I would order food next time and if I got a drink it would be something like a beer. Nothing food wise even stuck out to me as being really good anyway. So yea it's not worth the price.
As a pool hall though alone I liked it. The way the tables were set up was nice, there is plenty of room between tables, so you're not on top of anyone. We managed to get a table in the corner so it felt private. The service is excellent, they weren't on top of you and got everything out quickly. They check I.Ds at the door and the DJ playing that night wasn't that good but it looked like he was trying. Pool and some beer, yup that's what I would recommend.
I haven't been here in a while but the last time I went (which was about April or May) I had a good time. I'm not an expert when it comes to playing billiards but I do enjoy it. If you play and you're looking for a reason to come out the house go to Raxx. I've had the wings which were decent..the server was attentive and kept the drinks coming. Overall, I can't complain.
Review Source:Not a big pool player but the tables seem decent enough. Â Waitress comes around often and they have a menu of typical bar type food. Â Nothing great coming out of that kitchen but good enough and not a rip off.
Large enough place so that you won't be on top of one another and interfering with other peoples game. Â The juke box is good and they have a bunch of big screen TV's
There was four of us and between the drinks, food we ordered, the pool table and tip we paid about $40.00 each. Â Not a bad deal for a few hours out.
I did a quick tip...but I thought about it and decided I gotta give you guys more!
It was late one June Thursday night. I'm riding around (rather sober) with three friends of mine. Not a thing to do. A buddy old pal shoots the text, telling us to follow them to Raxx (on Raxx on Raxx ;) ) so we do!
I've never played pool. Well ok, maybe once. But that was at my ballin ass uncle's crib and my little cousin wiped the pool table with my head pretty much. I was terrible! But anyways I went in to Raxx excited to get another try to redeem myself. Prove to myself that I could be a little pool shark.
As a sidebar when ever I go out I ask a million and one times if its 21+. I was a baby at the time with a little over 2 weeks for my 21st birthday. I didn't want them sending me away at the door. My friends assured me it was all good. We got in side. Walked down a little aisle pass the bar to a large guy behind a little desk/podium looking thing. He glanced at our IDs and let us go. We walked in and saw tvs and about 20+ pool tables. With maybe 5 or 6 of then occupied. Not too bad for a Thursday night. They sent the now 6 of us to a table in the back corner which was fine. Nice and out of the way so no one else would peep my lack of pooling skills. We played 3 games.
A worker came by twice to ask if we needed anything. That was nice. Enough to show they were attentive but not enough to be hitting he striped balls.
Our third game started a little before closing. Nervous we wouldn't finish we were hitting balls all Willy nilly. But there was no need to rush. The workers cleaned up and packed up around us and assured us no pressure we could take our time and finish our game. What a bunch of pool Angels. They were so sweet!
When we finally finished maybe 10 or 15 minutes after closing we went by the bar. Split the tab, which was 26$ for the 6 of us which works out to really cheap per person . It was such a fun night for so little and it was a Thursday. Imagine a Saturday!
After that we hung out like losers in the parking lot for about an hour. Recapping the night.
I really must go back.
I came here last night with 3 of my friends, aside from this place being in West Hempstead, its pretty decent and being open till 4am on Christmas day is pretty clutch.
The place is clean, the service was good and they have maybe around 20 to 25 tables which is nice. They also have a nice bar area with a couple of big screens to watch the game. We had had gotten the trio appetizer which is a sample of any 3 appetizers for $10 which I thought was a good deal. The food came in short order after it was placed and it was pretty good for bar food. The quality was better than I thought and it wasn't greasy which was a nice surprise considering it was mozzarella sticks, waffle fries and chicken fingers. I don't know how much our total bill was because I didn't pay but I can't imagine it being too bad.
I give this place 3.5 stars and if I'm ever in West Hempstead for some reason and need something to do I would definitely come back here.
Being one of the closest local places to shoot pool, Raxx is a convinient little place to go. There are around 2 dozen pool tables in the back, not to mention a well stocked bar. The prices are moderate compared to some other pool halls in Nassau County.
I don't think I can ever recall a time where I had to wait for a table to open up, even on Friday nights.
The service is always great. Waitresses peruse the tables frequently and see if they can get you a refill, or any food. There are TVs scattered throughout the back by the tables, plus a few big flat screens by the bar, so that way you can catch some sports games while you shoot.
It doesnt happen very often but sometimes you cant get to the city(the terrible transit strike) or you dont feel like going to the city for whatever reason, rax is the place to check out. Â This place is crowded enough on the weekend to keep everyone interested and you can watch the ball game while having some beers. Â At the door you have to buy a $5 chip and you can use that chip towards drinks or pool. Â So basically its free to get in and the music is good enough that you wont miss the city that much for one night.
Review Source:Rax is a pretty chill place to go for some pool, drinks and/or food. You have to pay 5 bucks to get in, which kinda sucks, but in exchange you get a chip that's worth 5 dollars. In the end, what this means is that you have to spend 5 bucks somehow, whether it be for pool, a drink or whatever. I guess they just wanna stop large groups from coming in to just hang out. They also check IDs strictly at the door. Once you're inside and have paid your money, it's a nice place, with endless pool tables, a bunch of TVs and a good bar and menu.
