I really like this little hole in the wall. It looks kinda sketchy from the outside, but isn't that what makes some of the best restaurants just that much better?
Location for this one isn't too bad, and it's kind of in a prime place for a sit down restaurant because everything else around it is a desolate wasteland of literally nothing except the spotty appearances of fast food joints.
Real De Minas isn't the best Mexican food on the planet, but it's good stuff. Between my co-workers and I, none of us have had anything disappointing on the menu. They're great with service, consistent in every fashion, and the food comes out quick enough that you can have a sit down lunch without feeling guilty about being gone too long.
If I could fix one thing, I'd make it easier to get back out onto Peoria, but that's not really their fault. Don't be afraid of the outside of the restaurant, just check it out.
THE ADDRESS THAT YELP HAS IS NOT CORRECT - MAKING THE LOCATION TOUGHER TO FIND!
I had to call to find the location 3855 South Peoria Street. Â Good thing I didn't give up. Â The food was great, the atmosphere very authentic. Â Delia was my server, she was fantastic. Â I had the Burrito con Colorado, just the right amount of spice, very nice. Â Oscar Morales is the manager and stopped by the table to make sure the meal was to my liking. Â Now that i know how to get here I will definitely be back, the patio dining looks like the way to go in the early evening, happy hour here I come!
The food is a little uneven-the cabbage salsa is a nice touch, but the usual "red" is not so tasty. The enchilada was tasty, but the taco was run of the mill. The chile relleno (crispy) was, dare I say, tasteless.
I'll be back to try more, as it is my kind of joint, and the waitresses are cute and friendly, but mostly because it is within about a nine-iron shot of my place of employment. I promise I'll report back on the good stuff.
Dropped by after a day of waterskiing. We were starving and real Mexican food sounded great. We chose this place as it was along our route home. Â When we arrived, we though the building was a bit dingy, but figured that the full parking lot meant it must be good.
Inside, the place was buzzing with chatter and music from a live Ranchera band. Very full on a saturday evening. They sat us at booth that was sticky and in dire need of a good cleaning. They brought out chips and salsa, which were definetly not the best in town.
The food was your standard Mexican food - an entree with a side of rice and beans. The menu offers too many choices, something that really annoys me, as I wish mexican restaurants would focus on fewer meals, and do those really well. I ordered the skirt steak entree and my wife a chicken salad. My meal was good, but nothing I couldn't find somewhere else in town, including three margaritas (yuck).
We aren't big mexican food eaters, but we like this place. They make a really great cabbage salsa. Our first experience with this place was through a groupon and we've been back a few times. I've had flauta's and the crispy rellano's and both were very tasty. My wife had a chimichanga and I she seems to like them. Our son has had tacos and he eats them up so overall they are a solid 4 in my book. It's Mexican so like I said, I'm not a huge fan but considering that I sure can't complain.
Review Source:Came here for lunch after we purchased the Groupon deal. Â First thing I was a bit worried as for the part of town they are in but when I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see a quaint little family place, Â When we walked in the place had a "funky" smell of some sort of cleaner that put me off when we walked in. Â Probably just that day but still a turn off.
The portions here are huge and the food has a very authentic feeling. Â We had the pork Carnitas (which I thought was a hit) and my chicken floutas were not bad at all. Â
Over all I would definitely recommend for a lunch or casual dinner if you are in the mood for some good mexican food.
This little hovel of a restaurant in the itchy sandy unflattering railroad corridor on Peoria near I70, surprises! its actually pretty nice inside.
I had two excellent tamales rice and beans for $6.99, add $1.50 draft Tecate at happy hour and wow! A great meal and a great deal.
The service is a little neutral, but the experience was good and I will be back.
A coworker and I decided to check out another Mexican restaurant in the AMC hood and ended up at Real de Minas. Â I was excited to read the good reviews of this place before heading out for lunch.
For some reason, my new go-to meal to determine whether or not I like a Mexican restaurant is based on the chile rellenos, crispy or soft. whichever I'm in the mood for. Â And today I was in the mood for crispy! Â Although it took our server an unusual amount of time to wait on us, our food was served up quickly. Â Everything was tasty! Â From the rice to the beans to the chile rellenos, I really enjoyed my lunch. Â However, it would've been a little bit better with a spicier kick.
I knocked off a star for the slow service during a slow lunch hour. Â But there's always potential for Real to gain it back during my next visit!
Here's a useful tip: Â Real de Minas is no longer south of the train tracks, but north of them at 38th-ish and Peoria, just south of I-70.
Yummm. Â I just had the chicken and shredded beef tacos but they were tasty. Â the salsa is hot and the salsa slaw has even more of a kick. Â Of course this is American Mexican, but it's still good. Â They were able to accommodate a group of 10 at lunch via reservation. Â No one at the table had a complaint (though most of them had enchilada plates) Â and have vowed to comeback again. Â The burrito is as big as the menu, relatively. Â I'm waiting to revisit for a chile relleno and a margarita. Â
FYI.. this location has moved north on Peoria near 38th Ave by the Waffle House. Â Nice fake mexican decor, the hostess spoke very little anglais.
Burritos the size of your head, flaming hot green chili sauce, and killer cabbage (yes, that's what I said) made me really glad I stopped into Real De Minas this morning. After a grueling morning of taking care of some car issues, I decided I would stop at the first Mexican place that was open (it wasn't even 10 a.m.) for breakfast. I did not regret stopping here! It was pretty much deserted - the staff was still eating their breakfast when I came in - and the main tv was blasting, but I was so hungry I didn't care. They serve this spicy cabbage starter with your chips and salsa that is to die for - oily, peppery, and hot, with red and green peppers. I had to stop myself to leave room for my burrito, which is probably the biggest burrito I've seen hands down, with spicy green chile. Yum.
For a one-time visit this place ranks pretty high, and the next time I'm out in Aurora I will def stop in and try it for lunch or dinner. Try it!
