I'm going to give Restaurant Five Five 2 a 4 for right now. This is due to the odd conversation that was transpiring between I'm assuming a mother, father, and tween next to us. Yes a tween. I would like to come back and give it another whirl because the food here was pretty stellar.

Now I apologize for coming off a little snippy but this was just straight up awkward. My mom took me for dinner on the night of my birthday(yes I'm about 3 weeks late I'm sorry for the late review!) so it was just the two of us. The waiter (Vinny I think was his name) was very helpful and patient with us. My mom and I ordered the following to split: Gloucester Deviled Eggs with lobster and lemon aioli, Blackened Filet Mignon Tips with onion straws and gorgonzola sauce, and Maine Lobster Mac 'N Cheese with white truffle essence and farmhouse cheddar. We told our waiter we may want something else but we didn't want to over order and we'd let him know. Now let me tell you when I was a youngin' about 16 years ago so that'd make me 12 I was taught not to act up in a restaurant and to stay attentive. All I could hear from this tween was "Stahp!! You're embarrassing me!!! STAHP". Here I am trying to enjoy my birthday dinner and drinky and it was getting quite uncomfortable as the tables are pretty close to each other. But the food is awesome. We wound up ordering another order of the Blackened Filet Mignon Tips. I also dipped pieces of bread into the gorgonzola sauce. No dessert because we were full! Next time since the waiter informed he wanted to sing to me because it was my birthday. Ha!

I think Restaurant Five Five 2 needs me to come back and give it another whirl. This is definitely a place that is intimate and romantic and perfectly suitable for a date. Minus the tween of course!

I have been to this restaurant before and sat at the bar for appetizers and drinks. Very good food.
I bought an Amazon coupon,  I called to see if I could eat at the bar and was told no. So I made a reservation to eat at a table in the bar. I was disappointed needless to say.
So  my friend and I sat at the bar for a drink before dinner. Then I was told I could eat at the bar. Good move by the management. Customer service is key to a business.
Go see Angelo the bartender. He is great. He has a technique when he pours to mixed drinks at one time. He's a great bartender.
We had a great time and good food. Try the Kung pao calamari, the wedge salad and the orecchiette gamberi. My friend and I shared it and it was more than enough.

This place was amazing!  Some of the reviews said the service needed work but they've clearly worked on it.  The wait staff was super attentive and friendly.  The ambiance was homey and comfortable.  The meal was one of the best I've had.  Everything was delicious from the cheese plate, to the watermelon salad they had as a special to the short rib grilled cheese and the chocolate mousse.  I don 't have a single complaint.

Used to go here when it was Oscar's and O's and decided to give the latest incarnation a try.  All four of us enjoyed the food and the service was decent.  What was lacking was ambiance.  Can't put my finger on it but it lost the intimate feel this place once had, particularly in the bar area but the dining area too.  Not sure I will go back.

    "five-five-NEW"

My boyfriend and I drove past the location twice because we hadn't realized the name had changed.

We finally parked and head inside.  The establishment was fairly empty but the staff very friendly.

It definitely had the ambiance of a family home turned bed and breakfast turned restaurant.  Overall it felt exclusive, homey and hip.

Prices were reasonable and overall the experience was great.

One of the few restaurants that had typical dishes with a classic twist.  Menu was small, simple and satisfying.

    Tapas / wine bar.

I'll admit it, I'm on as tapas and wine kick lately and have been hitting most of the area places in search of not only good execution, but I'm always keeping an eye out for something new and different.

Five Five 2 occupies the former haunt of "O" on North Country road in St. James- where there is a sort of mini renaissance going on in the way of food... bully for me!

I liked it as soon as I walked on:  "loungie" type bar area complete with some small couches and glassed in fireplace, which is one of my must haves for a date place.  The bartenders were very good and they kept everyone going and this place gets hopping.

There is a nice selection of wines and as nice as they were, 552 falls into the same trap as just about every other place that sells wines: why do we need like 5 Cabernet choices and 4 Merlot etc etc?  Why can't we see some truly different wines instead of the same usual suspects with just more choices?  They did have a Cab Franc but then they also had just one choice of a Zinfandel.  Seriously, let's lighten the load on the Cab's and Merlot's and introduce something new and exciting.

The tapas were good - we had the Chinatown Duck Egg Roll and the pulled chipotle chicken Tortilla.  Both were nicely presented and of the two, the chipotle tortilla was the winner.  The duck egg roll, while not bad, was just not that tasty.  Wagyu beef sliders were good - but those are hard to screw up.

The ambiance was perfect - great place to take a date - and there were plenty of happy couples both in the bar and the main dining area.  They do have a full menu as well so you have literally something for everyone here.

Bathrooms were spacious and had a selection of toiletries available such as hair gels and the like - nice touch, particularly if you need to spruce up for your date...

There was live music in the bar area and it was a nice addition to an overall nice night out.

All in all a very good experience and one you should try!

This is just the kinda place Long Island needs! I went 3 nights in a row with friends just so we could all try to taste everything on the menu and there isn't a single thing I wouldn't order again. I highly recommend the ricotta gnocci, the wagyu sliders, and the mussels & pomme frttes! My favorite thing has got to be the LOBSTER MAC & CHEESE!

The bar area is HUGE with a flat screen TV to catch the game. But there is also a fireplace lounge area if you wanna be a little more low key. You can order from the tapas menu at the bar which is my favorite thing since I like to try little bits of everything.

The staff is super friendly! Vinny is the man when it comes to wine. He knows his stuff! Even the owners came out to see how I was doing and welcomed me. It's just like the kind of places I like to go in LA. You Gotta go!
