We held our wedding at Rhythmix last November, after searching for a finished space that would reflect our artscene-positive tendencies. Â d'Arci started us out until Maude took over. Â d'Arci (who has since moved on to another job) knew the ropes and gave us great information (pro-tip - Rhythmix doesn't have a lot going on for small children at an event like a wedding, so it's best to leave them at home, or at least hire an onsite sitter). Â Maude patiently saw us through subsequent walkthroughs with our caterer and tape measures. Â
Rhythmix is a beautiful space, and we enjoyed being able to use the K-Gallery for our own prep and part of our reception (while the upper room was being "turned").
As fabulous as our wedding was, we're happy that it's behind us, and we're looking forward to attending more arty events at Rhythmix.
Went to an evening art gallery reception recently. Â Art gallery and reception downstairs. Â Stage for performances upstairs. Â What a great facility. Â A real cultural addition to Alameda.
Small parking lot with easy street parking nearby. Â
Not sure about the Rhythmix Cultural Works logo. Â Sure looks like a rip-off of the Rotary Club logo.
We went last night for the first time to monthly Bingo night and had a blast! The theme was Funky Motown and everything from the music, Bingo caller and dancing was awesome. For $25 bucks you get 10 Bingo games with Cash prizes. We went with a large group and had a great table reserved. Bring cash for bar and pizza. Reserve online-this event does sell out and we saw people turned away at the door. Costumes optional-we saw a real mix of people going all out with the theme and many in regular street clothes. Very friendly crowd-the organizers run the event like clock work.
Review Source:I discovered Rhythmix about a year ago, intending to observe a hand drumming class, and instead finding myself warmly welcomed and immediately included by the teacher and students. Â Since then I've taken several kinds of classes, and also come to hear and dance to musicians of different styles--Taiko, Balkan, Latin, African, Indian, Gullah stick pounding--you name it! Â I've visited music and cultural venues throughout the East Bay, and find that Rhythmix is especially welcoming to those of us who come to learn, play, or listen.
Review Source:I'll keep this short because I really could go on for days about this place and its workers. Â I was married here on June 2 of this year, and not only did d'Arci make the planning a breeze, she and the other 2 women working were there for every bridal need and question I had. Â This was our first time trying to make such a large event run smoothly, so keeping to schedule wasn't our strong point, but they guided us along pretty well. Â Needless to say, tension and emotions were on high alert for everyone involved, but my groom and I enjoyed every moment of the evening, which is the important part. Â I'd recommend this venue and wonderful team of go-getters to any bride who is doing a wedding with or without a planner.
Review Source:"Each month, the Rythmix Cultural Works in Alameda (Blanding Avenue) hosts a bingo event at their facility. It's a far cry from the standard church / old lady bingo that people typically associate with these type of events. Rather, it's an alcohol-fueled, high-stakes, interactive, skit-based exposition that hands-down is an absolute blast. If you've never been to their Bingo party, you've been missing out on a cool piece of Alameda action."
Review Source:From beginning to end the folks at Rhythmix were great to work with, especially d'Arci. Â The space was perfect for my husband's 50th birthday party/roast. Â We needed very little decoration in the upstairs area since all the brick and wood truss works looks beautiful on its own. Â I'm looking forward to Bingo night soon.
Review Source:Hooping with Betty at Rhythmix is wonderful! Â If you haven't tried it you should. Â
Don't think you can do a hula-hoop anymore? Â Betty will teach you differently - she did me.
Monday nights - fall session starts late September!
Check it out. Â <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Flucashooping.com&s=304a5947ad755e69cd80bac07a7e33f81cb5f3fcccd609ee2363595451d9fa01" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://lucashooping.com</a> - really great!
I attended a private party here - what a fun place to dance and party. The food was set up downstairs, with a DJ and drinks upstairs. It was like being a nightclub or someone's groovy loft!
Have been dying to get to their crazy Bingo night - soon.
A welcome addition/creative space for Alameda!
This is a fantastic place to take a dance class.
I've been attending Wendy's Wednesday belly dance classes, and they are top-notch. I highly suggest them if you are curious about belly dance, especially if you are interested in learning American Tribal Style. Wendy is a member of Fat Chance Belly Dance, and you can check them out at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fcbd.com&s=80b505c73b8ede361572c9004bca06afe208fd05a90109b976b7b214961200a1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.fcbd.com</a> for more info.
The facility is *gorgeous*. Nice wood floors, friendly staff, all the bells and whistles.
I've never attended an event there, but I'm sure they are wonderful.
I'm lovin' my rhythmix cultural experience!
yeeeip!
Well, tucked away amongst the estuary is a wonderful place called Rhythmix.
Fun stuff...for everyone. Kids activities, dances for kids and their parents (with wine and beer for the grow-ups!!), yoga, adult classes, taiko, art gallery, bingo (circus, might I add), and a wonderful performance space that you can rent....my husband and I are having our post wedding part there next year and are stoked!!
Janet and Jennifer are sweethearts, funky and super down to earth...
Community focused, art and performance saavy, kid and adult friendly...all in an absolutely gorgeous space with amazing people to run the joint!!
There is something for anyone!!
We moved to Alameda about 4 years ago, and at the time had no idea we would become parents. As most who have experienced Alameda know, this is a very unique town. It offers the best of living close to a major city, while maintaining a small-town charm without being too suburban. Rhythmix to me symbolizes what is great about Alameda. Full of interesting, original and community-focused classes and events, it's a place everyone can feel welcome. I've been involved in the recent Shimmy Shimmy Kids' Dance parties and we are having a BLAST. What's great is that the people at Rhythmix are creative and focused on their mission, without being artsy snobs, elitist hipsters...there is none of that. As our daughter gets older, I'm so excited to get her more involved in the art classes and summer camps...Rhythmix is now an extended part of our family!
Review Source:Have had several experiences here...a friends b'day party/taiko performance, a tour by the fabulous owner, a retirement party in the gallery, and Three Ring Bingo! Â All GREAT experiences!
Oh, and thanks for the taiko drumming on the estuary a few weeks ago...it was great and I think coordinating it with the Tiki Tom's Outrigger Races would be brilliant!
For once I have absolutely nothing snarky to say. Â Take note, this is a historic moment.
The space here is gorgeous! Â The vibe is much more relaxed than many of the community arts center counterparts you find in the city. Â I took a taketina rhythm workshop with Elaine Fong that was insightful, meditative, and really fun. Â The workshop was a nice, small size too...about 8-10 people. Â I would love to take advantage of the plethora of other classes they have here, if only I didn't live a ferry ride away!
rhythmix opened its fabulous doors this past weekend, adding a much needed center for visual and performing arts to the isle o' style. Â inside their beautifully renovated space they offer a great selection of classes in dance, music , printmaking and book arts among other things (check out the website for the full list). i just started the ukiyo-e session with gary and am so far quite impressed. Â also, I'm glad to have found a printmaking class that is actually on the island. Â after class i snagged a quick tour with their director (?), jennifer and completely fell in love with their upstairs performance area with its gorgeous curved wood roof. Â you (and, for those of you with knee-biters, your kids) must check it out! a great way to be involved with and support the local art scene.
