Very tasty sushi and great service. A friend and I came to eat lunch here today and had a great time trying different rolls. One roll, the Bingo Roll, was so good we had to order a second one. Definitely different as it uses a soy paper instead of seaweed and comes with a unique dipping sauce. We were hooked! Definitely coming back to eat here again.

The service was great and very accommodating to dietary restrictions.  I got the tofu steak teriyaki dinner and it was delicious! It was filling and the portions were generous. I can't comment on the quality of the sushi because I didn't order any, but the selection was enormous.
    I would definitely recommend!

My husband and I tried Rice Temptation in downtown San Clemente for the first time tonight. We were very pleased. It is a small local restaurant; the atmosphere is very cozy and casual.  The menu is typical of a Japanese/ sushi restaurant.  We ordered edamame as an appetizer.  It was cooked well but lacked the sea salt that we prefer.  It was served with a shaker of table salt.  My husband ordered the dinner combination with steak teriyaki, shrimp tempura, white rice, and California rolls.  I also ordered the combination dinner but had chicken teriyaki, brown rice, and California rolls.  Both meals were served with miso soup and salad.  The miso soup was flavorful but would tasted better with more green onions. The steak and chicken were above average but Not the best we've had.The California rolls were the best part of the meal. They tasted fresh and had plenty of crab and avocado.  The prices are extremely reasonable. Our bill was around $40 for an appetizer, two entrees, wine, and soda.  That can't be beat.  We will definitely return and plan to order from the sushi menu on our next visit.  Service was friendly and attentive but the servers were slow to deliver our drinks but this might have been because both of them also worked in the kitchen.  We never went without anything that we needed.  Parking is awful in downtown San Clemente.  There is limited street parking and the public lots fill quickly. Because of the friendly service, good food, and reasonable prices we highly recommend Rice Temptation.

Great, fresh food, reasonable prices, cozy atmosphere and very attentive service.  Great for take-out, too...my favorite is the Sashimi Box!

This place is great! My girlfriend and I randomly went here and were very impressed especially for how inexpensive it is. I highly recommend it if you are in San Clemente!

I'll start by saying that we enjoyed the food so much and ended up eating way too much- thus, among my friends this place is now referred to as 'Rice Molestation".

I frequent Avenida Del Mar mostly just to walk around and go to Jacks. However, one evening my friends and I decided to try a new sushi place. We had tried quite a few in the area and were never blown away by what we got. Rice Temptation filled our lack of satisfaction very well.

The place itself is small and cozy with no more than 15 tables. The decor is Japanese theme (surprise) and all around quite minimalist. It was a chilly day so I began with miso soup to warm the bones. Decided to go with the  sashimi box- you get a bunch of cuts at a good price. My gf went for the green curry (which she devoured). The fish was really fresh and the rolls were good. My biggest praise goes to the Fire Ball on the appetizer menu. If you come here: order this!

Great little sushi spot in a fun part of SC.

    Cheers ya'll

The lunch special was a decent value.  The food was good too.  Good portion  sizes. For $10 you can get 2 mains,a side as well as rice, soup, and salad.  The soup was poor, but the brown rice and salad good.  Wife said the sushi was very good.  The shrimp tempura was ok, and the pork cutlets better.  Would go to again.

An undiscovered gem in SC! Visited here on a recent Thursday evening and it was not at all crowded. We enjoyed a Rolls Royce sushi roll  and I thought the green curry chicken with soba noodles was the best green curry I've had in a long time. Could taste coconut, green basil, a little spice (they can spice it to your taste). They have a good selection of sakes as well as beer. My friends had ramen with pork (the broth was delicious) and the menu has many choices. The prices are reasonable and we will definitely be back, as there are other dishes we want to try.

I was in San Clemente for a mini trip with my friend and we were both craving sushi. We got a special roll and a spicy salmon roll.  We also shared udon soup and the yellow curry. The food was all absolutely delicious, great prices and the lady that works there was so nice to us ! Definitely will be back

I tried the roasted pork ramen.  The pork was tender and flavorful.  The ramen was of a nice consistency.  I thought the broth was a bit strong on ginger.  I would have enjoyed more miso flavor.  I will return to try more dishes.

I think that due to the yelp reviews I read, my expectations were a little higher than average.

The yellow tail sashimi was a bit fishy. The salmon was mighty tasty though.

Prices are average. They have the normal beers you would expect at a sushi establishment. The service was awesome. It did seem like almost every roll has asparagus in it... which seemed slightly odd to me. It's just an average sushi place to me, nothing to spectacular.

Their green curry is *awesome*.  Give it a try!  I also tried some pork ramen and salmon teriyaki, all of it was good - but the green curry was nearly sublime.

Their dining room is small, so if your kids are as loud as mine, you may get a bit self concious in there.  But the staff is pretty easy going, and they did make some nice efforts to accomodate kids.

Lost on Del Mar at the end of the business area, near FEDEX.  Not gormet but very good with a bigger selection of entrees than  any other Japanese restaurant in the area.  Good food, good prices and good service. The next time you cannot get into one of the popular restaurants up the street, try this one.  You won't be sorry.

YES. We found a place that the entire family can enjoy-- from my not-so-adventurous in-laws to my self proclaimed (sort of) sushi-connoisseur husband to my three-year old son! Thank you, Yelp peeps.

We had the Japanese cuisine. Although I am curious about their Thai dishes (especially because there is not an overwhelming selection, which is a good thing, I think), it's going to be hard to keep me away from the sushi next time. Yes, there definitely will be many next times.

First, I like that the place is small but not cramped.

Then, of course there is the food; everything we tried tasted really fresh. The Red Dragon roll here was the best I've had yet-- even better than Katana's on the Sunset strip. I think the combination of the freshest-tasting tuna and the tender-yet-crisp seasonal asparagus was what made this roll so spectacular. My husband and I both agreed that this one was our favorite.

My son and father-law both got the bento-style meals. What a deal for the quality AND quantity. I highly recommend ordering the brown rice (it's a type of Japanese wild rice-yum!) with the combination meal. My son's kid meal came with a small scoop of ice cream to tie it all up. We was a happy kid, and that always makes us all happy, too.

The waitress (owner, maybe?) was really accomodating. It DID take her a little while to get our glasses of water out to the table, but after that it was smooth sailing. She went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable-- she asked if I'd prefer the shades down since the sun was shining through directly on my spot; and, when we asked her to shut the front door because it was getting just a tad chilly, she did it with a smile. These may seem like small things, but they can really make or break a dining experience.

I really would like to try their Ramen or udon on a fall evening. I haven't seen the reviews on either of these yet.

The restuarnt has only been at this location for sixth months-- I wish them well! Try it. You'll ike it. :)

Key words here-- FRESH and friendly.

So happy a place like this has finally arrived in San Clemente!  This charming, laid back restaurant offers great comfort asian food at great prices.

The pork curry ramen soup is extremely tasty with al dente noodles and thick slices of pork tenderloin that cut like butter.

Will definitely frequent this restaurant as a local, and cannot wait to try out more items off their menu!

Great, prompt service. Yummy food. Reasonable prices. We recommend it highly! The only issue is the fryer smell in the air...it makes my hair smell like a deep fryer. Other than that, great little spot!

I love Sushi, but always had to drive to Costa Mesa or even Huntington Beach to get really good sushi!  With three kids who don't eat seafood, at all, it's kinda difficult to frequent.  I've tried sushi/sashimi in San Clemente from 9 Style, Taka O...to Miyako.  I gave them all fair shots...I apply the three strikes rule.  That way, I feel confident walking away without looking back!

It is so frustrating not being able to get my sushi fix.  BUT, Rice Temptation gives me hope.  Admittedly, this place wasn't my first choice to dine tonight since I gave up my search for a decent sushi place in San Clemente.  Fortunately for me, all my second and third choices for dinner were booked tonight, too, because I think I found the Holy Grail of Sushi restaurants in San Clemente.  (Lately, at some of the sushi restaurants I've been experiencing slightly warm rice in my rolls...what is going on?  YUCK!)  BUT, NOT HERE FOLKS!!  My spicy tuna cut roll was exploding and oozing tuna and the rice was at the perfect temperature and consistency.  The salmon sashimi was so incredibly fresh it was like butter in my mouth. I so wanted more, but I was stuffed from stealing the tender-crispy-heavenly light tempura from my kids and hubby.

It's also very kid-friendly with toys set out on the side table for the "mini" patrons.  My kids wanted to take me out for my bday dinner so I needed a place to satisfy my palate as well as the pint-sized trio of mine.  This place more than satisfied the littlest of palates to the biggest.  They were all grinning from ear to ear as their bento boxes filled with various, mouth-watering, delectables were set before them.  I will definitely be back...to try more of their sushi and their Thai dishes!  I love that I can have some sushi AND curry...to sate all of my cravings.  Also, my daughter looooved the fried, green tea ice cream, and my son loooved his vanilla ice cream that came with his dinner.

Service was a little hit-or-miss (that's why it's four stars), but always friendly.  I think this place is a "mom & pop" place and "mom" was also the waitress and her son was coloring at one of the booths when we walked in and his scooter was parked at the entrance.  So darn cute.  YOU have to support this little mom & pop shop, especially since they're dishing out some pretty darn good food.  We all will be back again soon.  PLEASE GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY.  You will not regret it.

p.s. My 2 year old was being a stereotypical 2 year old and our waitress always wore a smile and more than once commented how cute he was...and believe me folks, even to us, his own parents...well, let's just say we wished we could've walked away.  ;-P

Super friendly family owns this place. The lady helped us order - everything she brought was AMAZING - from the edamame in sauce, to the yellow curry, wonton soup and dragon roll. Definitely nice that they offer beer, although I don't think it's on the menu. Corner seat by the window (for 2) is bright and cozy with a nice view out on the downtown street

Love this place! A great little spot for awesome Sushi & Thai :) I highly recommend the Bingo, White Dragon + Oishi Rolls & Shamu Special.

The sushi here was fantastic. Big pieces of nigiri and super fresh!  We also tried some of their signature cut rolls.  The Oishi Roll was super good - tempura shrimp, asparagus and crab, topped with albacore and tataki sauce.  I also like the spicy tuna on crispy rice.  They need a little more diversity in their rolls (about half had tempura shrimp & asparagus in them), but all in all great sushi.

We didn't try any of the thai or ramen dishes - maybe next time.

In line price-wise with 9 Style and Taka-O. Not outrageously expensive, but also not cheap. Quality-wise this place beats Taka-O hands down, and holds its own against 9 Style.

    A definite must try!

Great food!  The sushi is very unique and very good.  Highly recommend the Bingo, Oishi and Spit Fire rolls.  The ramen came out al dente and the broth was very good.  Very well priced overall.

We have been here several times since they opened and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the food and fantastic friendly service.  I was also extremely happy to find that they offered gluten free soy sauce!  The menu is quite extensive and offers many different yummy options both Thai and Japanese.

I always have the sushi because I have to stick with gluten free options.  The tuna roll and the veggie rolls are terrific.  The veggie rolls have a lot of flavor compared to others I have had at other restaurants. The fish is extremely fresh and of high quality.  The sushi prices are very reasonable too.  My husband and son love the chicken gyoza ramen soup.  The bowl is GIGANTIC and they both have a hard time finishing.  My mom ordered the chicken gyoza soup last week and it was similar to the ramen soup but without the noodles.  She had to take half of hers home and happily finished it later for dinner.

We were told today that they are working on offering more gluten free options too, specifically teriyaki and ponzu sauce.  I am really looking forward to trying these as I have not been able to order chicken teriyaki since being diagnosed with Celiac two years ago!!!  They seem very knowledgeable about gluten and food allergy issues.  I look forward to returning many times in the future.  One of our new favorites!

Rice temptations offers great deals for dinner and lunch.  The quality of the food is high and the price is very reasonable for what you get. The staff was friendly and service was quick. Great addition to Del Mar.

Very impressed with the sushi here! I am a big sushi fan and This place serves thai and japanese cuisine so I was skeptical on how their sushi would be but I Would definitely recommend! Very good red dragon roll and las vegas roll. They have a variety of more specialty sushi rolls too I did not get to try but I will definitely be back for more!

This new restaurant is a welcomed addition to San Clemente! It's a family-ran Japanese-Thai restaurant in walking distance from home. They serve good sushi as well, even though they don't have a sushi bar!  An added bonus is that they have their beer/wine license.

I first got a taste of their sushi at a New Years Eve party.  I had assumed it was from another sushi place in town, but was pleasantly surprised to learn it was from Rice Temptation!  The sushi was great for being a take-out order!

On to our in-restaurant dining experience...

We had the Tom Yum soup for starters. It was very tasty and lots of lemongrass, which I love!

We had sushi, and it pleased EVERYONE at the table, and sometimes that can be impossible.

The lobster roll was VERY good for a reasonable price.
If you like spicy, the "friends sushi" was a good, interesting twist on your standard tuna, yellowtail, and albacore sushi!
We had a few spicy handrolls that were good, but a little on the creamy side.
The table had a couple other rolls and sushi that pleased!

They had some salads (among other things) that looked tempting, and I'll have to try the next time around- spicy tuna salad and a spicy beef salad!

Overall menu prices look very fair, and the sushi prices aren't astronomical like a few other places in town.

All in all, this place will be a hit! They are planning some renovations, but this place has already been thrown in our "take-out rotation"!  If you want good food at very reasonable prices, in a small, laid back family restaurant, this is your place! Definitely recommended and good luck to them!!!
