Amazing BBQ sandwiches.  This is a hidden gem!

Came here after a cycling event at the nearby park. I tried both the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, and they were both brilliant.  The meat was buttery soft, and was served on a white bread roll.  The sides were nothing much to write home about, but the sandwich made up for it.  Best BBQ I've ever had!

One of my biggest pet peeves with most BBQ restaurants is their complete lack of dedication to delicious side dishes--this is so not true at River Road BBQ! The cole slaw is crisp, flavorful, and full of large shreds of cabbage and red onion; the baked beans are loaded with a meaty barbecue flavor and can make a meal in and of themselves. The meat itself is tender, smokey, and delightfully accompanied by a rich sauce that is sure to please any BBQ afficionado. A Sandwich makes a great lunch, but a family dinner here is satisfying and affordable!

Just kinda stumbled onto this place the other day.  I'm visiting for the holidays from Seattle, but grew up in Indy.

This place is awesome.  I didn't expect to be buying BBQ so I didn't have much cash on me.

I bought a pound of their brisket, and man-oh-man, is that good stuff.

The BBQ is right out front and those folks know how to use it.

The brisket was so tender if just fell apart. ( I couldn't resist so just grabbed it with my fingers.) It's cooked to perfection and tastes fantastic just as it is.

Their sauce is good to, but not what I would call "traditional" bbq sauce.  It's thinner, and not as, I don't know, it's hard to describe.  It isn't bad, it just isn't what I think of when I think of BBQ sauce.  I found myself just dipping my finger into it to taste it, over and over, so it's good.  Got a bit of a kick, but it comes in a bit late, which I like.

This is a small place with no seating but tons of open park space nearby.  I hope they can stay in business because they know what they are doing and it's very good.

    Check 'em out!

The BBQ was amazing. My girlfriend had the pulled pork and I had the brisket. Both were delicious and the staff was friendly. There is no seating though so be prepared for take out. Though there are lots of parks you could eat at nearby.

Let me just get straight to the point as this carry-out only (I think) spot -- sharing a former gas station building with Black Spring Cycle Shop -- is the best bar-b-que pulled pork and beef brisket I have ever eaten.  And I don't mean it is the best in Louisville or Kentucky or the Southeast or the Midwest.  I will allow that it is the best bar-b-que anywhere, if you like pulled pork or beef brisket, which were the offerings yesterday when I stopped in to pick up dinner.  I didn't ask if there were other things on different days.  It just didn't matter.  I wanted what was there, which included a pulled pork sandwich or a beef brisket sandwich and two sides.  And what sides I could choose from? The selections which called out included:  homemade (one taste and you could tell!) cole slaw (verdict? This vinegar based creation was the most refreshing slaw I've ever tasted, and I consider myself a sampler of most); homemade beans (verdict? very tasty and clearly not out-of-a-can); homemade potato salad (verdict?  a perfect add-on for the sandwich) and a bag of commercial potato chips (verdict? unknown as I passed on them).  As wonderful as these sides proved to be, the stars were clearly the "Que."  These meats were tender, flavorful, juicy, and, yes, smokey.  I was given a cup of sauce (meant for the beef but told it would enhance the pork also) to pour over the meat, and I'll admit to using it, but it was not necessary.  The richness of the meat did not require it.  It was all so good.  As I type this, I am resisting the temptation of going back tonight.
