Cheap Delicious and Quality!
Let's be honest, if you are in Newburgh, you're not exactly crawling through options for lunch. On that note I'd nominate Riverside Deli as a daily option. You definitely won't break your wallet and you'll be full. They have great pizza by the slice, and they have a huge huge selection of pastas and deli sandwiches. They use BOARS HEAD deli meat and the sandwiches are made and sliced to order. You really can't ask for more then that during you lunch hour! I worked here for 4 weeks this year and probably ate at this place 10 or more times for lunch.
Went here for the first time for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. The blonde woman who stood behind the counter when we walked in made it clear that she was not the one to take our order, and refused to even acknowledge our presence. I was very put-off by how rude she was, but the two guys (one who took our order, and one who rang us up) were friendly as can be.
The sandwich was satisfying but not the best. The bacon was a bit tough, and the eggs were left on a few seconds too long, making the sandwich as a whole a little dry. But I don't want to rate them on food until I've gone there a few more times. From my experience with making breakfast sandwiches, sometimes they come out better when it's busy and you don't have time to try to make them perfect. It was dead when we went in.
My only complaint with the place was that lady. She could have at least smiled or said "hi". Â I'm assuming she's probably one of the owners, which is discouraging. What a let-down in customer service.
EDIT:
Went up to 4 stars after my second visit- a man and woman were there, who were both extremely nice. I got a slice of pizza and garlic knots. I have never had more delicious garlic knots. I want to go back every day for more.
I heard that Riverside used to be terrible, but they've recently come under new ownership, new management, everything, and they've really got it together now.
My co-workers and I eat there probably about once or twice a week on our lunch break - granted, it's right down the street from our shop, but the food is well-priced, terrific, and the people that work there are great.
In addition to having the best eggplant parmigiana sub around, their other hot subs (chicken parm, steak and cheese, the usual) are all pretty good, and they've got a full spread of Boar's Head deli meats to put on a toasted hero sub, a kaiser roll, whatever. They also have pizza which looks pretty good, but I have to admit, I haven't tried it, and with their eggplant parm being my regular order, I wonder if I ever will.
They also have various Italian foods for sale to take home - dry pastas, sauces, olive oil, stuff like that, and they carry a full range of chips and sodas to go with those tasty sandwiches.
