Quick stop for a sandwich and coffee kind of place or you can sit at a table. Their sandwiches are tasty! They may be a bit over priced but they do come with some sides. Their rhubarb pie is a bit artificial tasting and sweet. The coffee is good but the flavored ones, especially their specials, can get too sweet at times. Coffee prices are a bit cheaper than Starbucks but still overpriced. The service is average. The ambiance is pretty laid back with old school rock songs and some couches around. It can get packed in here on the weekends.
I come here more for their sandwiches than coffee. I've yet to come in for waffles but hopefully in the near future.
The coffee and teas are abundant. The little cakes and scones are good, moist enough. I've only had coffee and cake there. I would say the coffee is comparable to starbucks but less expensive. The atmosphere is really laid back. The ice teas are really good and have a huge selection.
You could hang at the place or take it to go quickly. Like the service and the bathroom is clean.
Love this place. Food is delicious, coffee is amazing. Grilled chicken salad is so good. A little expensive but worth it. Ambiance is great. The look and feel. I could sit there for hours. Music is great and so is decor. My only reason for not 5 starring is the price and they don't serve food after a very early hour, cant remember exactly. Used to go when I worked in Westfield and was perfect for lunch there. Sat and read. Service is great.
Review Source:Being a rock musician, I love the concept and decor. The coffee, however, is pretty bad. I hate the burnt, nasty flavor of Starbucks coffee. Rockn' Joe's is just a different overly bitter/burnt flavor, but just as undrinkable. Major bummer. Their sandwiches are amazing, though. It's my favorite spot to hang out and kill time, or take a friend for lunch. I honestly wish their coffee was better. It would be one of my favorite places n the world.
Review Source:Coffee good - food overpriced and bland (all panini style stuff). Â They don't have good ventilation here, so if you are there around lunch time, expect to walk around smelling like a panini.
Good place to take kids of you can get a decent sized table. Â Friendly wait staff - great change of pace from Starbucks
Rocking Joe is what a good coffee shop should be. Trendy, tucked away, comfortable and of course excellent coffee. Â I never visit Westfield without stopping by for a latte.
Other than enjoying a brownie or coffee cake I have not sampled anything off their menu. But by how busy they are at lunch the food quality must be good.
The Belgian Waffles are amazing. Â My friends and I go here about twice a week and we love it. Â The coffee is amazing (Sumatra!), they have a great selection of sandwiches on their menu, and they even have vegan choices which suites my friend. Â Tasty pies & cakes are available as well
Review Source:Quintessential Jersey...in all the best ways! This cute little coffee place (serves breakfast and lunch items) is rock 'n roll themed and hits all the right notes!
The service was great and the coffee hot and flavorful. It's located in Westfield, NJ's charming downtown and is a great little gathering spot.
The only thing I would say is watch out for items that don't move very quickly. I had a biscotti that had probably been sitting around a little too long.
I love the ambiance and the coffee selection.
I came here for lunch I was looking for a tasty sandwich and rich cup of Joe. I chose the Sumatra blend, it helps that they put a description of the coffee on the menu so you could look out for all the little tasting notes. I also ordered a portobello & brie panini, crispy and savory, great combo. I finished off with a raspberry bar, less of a bar more of a flaky pastry, awesome.
The service was friendly and the food came out very fast, great place for an under 30min lunch. Premium coffee, Sandwich with side, & dessert, $15, not bad at all.
Definitely one of the best coffee shops in NJ.
Rock'n Joe is a cafe dedicated to classic rock and roll and good coffee. I stopped in for a quick lunch and sat outside (enjoy the good weather before winter comes!)
Originally Perry L. and I wanted to order  from the wafels and dinges menu, until they told us it was busted. (But um, how cool that they make wafels and dinges here and I don't need to go to the truck?) We ordered a prosciutto and fresh mozzarella panini sandwich with a side of fruit salad. We also ordered a cafe mocha and a cafe breve. The sandwich was tasty, and the portion size just right. The coffees were also very good - the cafe breve especially creamy.
It was a pretty affordable lunch with an enjoyable environment. Service was a bit slow at times, but we expected that as we were sitting outside and out of view. Good thing we we're in a rush. The inside is also very cozy feeling, and is covered in album covers and concert posters. I can definitely imagine hanging out here!
This is where I go when I'm tired of Starbucks and panera.
Service is definitely hit or miss, be prepared to lounge around and enjoy your coffee while waiting for food... Or the check ... Etc
But that being said the coffee is absolutely delicious. Much better quality than Starbucks.
The food is pretty simple and no frills, def worth a try.
Don't come here if you're looking for a quick meal. Â A trip here is definitely worthwhile if you have some time to kill.
Nothing but good things to say about this place. Good coffee, good food. The staff as another reviewer mentioned lacks enthusiasm ( some of them) and aggressiveness to get orders taken and get people out the door. Very laxed which I'm sure is ok for most but if you are just running in to grab a fast cup of coffee I'm sure you'd agree to disagree. But still. My number one coffee place in town!
Review Source:I recently came here for a meeting with my book club. Â Although it wasn't an ideal place to discuss (there was a live band that night) I'm really glad I came! Â
The pom green tea I had was delicious- they have a variety of teas and coffee drinks. Â The desserts looked tasty (pies, cookies, etc) and those who ordered food seemed to enjoy. Â The ambiance is very chill and the staff, very friendly. Â I love the rock theme and decor- I plan on going back and trying their other locations in Cranford and Union.
This place had a few bumps in the road with staffing turnovers, but seems to be back on track. The servers hustle, and the beverages and light fare are as good as you will find at any coffee bar.
The place certainly has more personality than Starbucks or Paneras. If you want to work here, you must be waif-thin, look good in black, have numerous tattoos, body piercings, and ear gauges.
You would never know that this small-town coffee shop + bistro is a part of a small franchise. The owner himself came up to our table, gave us his recommendations on the menu items and even let us sample some of their famous "dinges" waffle topping. The atmosphere is filled with chill music, live music, and great wall art of famous classic rock artists. Huge props to Lance!
Review Source:I've been coming here once a week for about two years now, and I was a regular at the Cranford location before the Westfield one opened.
I go mostly for coffee, and their $3 cups are worth the money. Â They have several blends that they ground and press for each cup. Â It's not fast, but the wait is worth it as well. Â If I wanted a fast cup of coffee from a vat, Westfield has a Panera and a Starbucks. Â If I want a great cup of coffee, I come here.
I've tried about half of their menu. Â The desserts are a little pricy, but they rarely disappoint. Â The sandwiches are frequently more generous than one might expect. Â I particularly enjoy their crab cake and avocado sandwich, which skimps on neither. Â Their grilled cheese is made with olive oil and rosemary on rye, and since coming here I've started making mine at home the same way. Â I wouldn't mind if the menu was generally a buck or two cheaper, but I've never walked away from a meal disappointed.
To be honest, other reviews here are one of my impetuses for writing this one. Â Around six months ago several staff members did leave, but no where near all of them. Â They new staff is still very nice, and the old ones that stayed are as good as ever. Â They don't bother you if you don't flag them down, which I like. Â I bring a book or a computer with me, and I appreciate getting to sip my brew uninterrupted. Â I could see this being misconstrued as negligence by someone who is more passive about seeking the attention of wait staff; but I'm rather happy with all of them.
I am a vegan, thus my morning latte will be made with soy. Â Of all the coffee places in Westfield (Scotch Plains as well?) this is one of the few places other than Starbucks where you can purchase a soy latte. Â Unlike Starbucks, which uses sweetened vanilla soy (why anyone would think that a customer who orders soy wants a sugar-filled sweetened drink is completely beyond me...), the soy latte here uses regular, unsweetened soy. Â Unless you are looking for a sweet, vanilla-flavored soy latte (yuck), I would recommend Rockn' Joe in Westfield for your soy latte fix.
Further, the shop staff are prompt, courteous and cool, the music is good, and the toasted bagel with jam that I tried here rocked as well. Â When in the Scotch Plains / Westfield area, I will definitely be here in the morning.
My wife and I used to love this place but something happened over the past few months (we suspect it changed ownership because the entire staff has been replaced). Although the food is still good, (lattes are to die for) the service has gone straight down the toilet. Â Unfriendly staff and this weird obsession about the mystery "table for four". Since we were a party of three with nowhere else to sit, we got the impression they'd rather have us LEAVE than sit at the table "reserved" for four. Truly bizarre!
Review Source:I love this place. I write software for a living and I don't always want to work out of my home office, so I'm here with a laptop a lot.
The food and coffee are good, the staff is friendly, and the music is exceptionally good - and I don't mean there's like occasionally a good classic rock song or something, I mean it's really really good.
Service: I spent a sunday morning/afternoon here with a good friend and have little to no complaints. Â We were seated right away without difficulty, but I can see how easily this place can fill up quickly. Service is great and attentive, and though we sat for the longest, there was no pressure for us to leave.
Food; Â i started with a "huge" cup of coffee (about 3 cups worth) and my friend chose a tea. Â She ordered the stuffed french croissant, and I had the nutella and banana waffle, with a side of eggs. Â we both loved our food and had no complaints about portion size or quality. it was pretty amazing. Â Great selections if you want breakfast or lunch items.
Ambiance: Really chill, child-friendly, great decor, clean and cozy. Â Can't wait until the summertime when they start opening up the windows.
Really cool environment, great place to have a good conversation.
Service is... ... okay. It depends on the day and time. But usually when I walk in, I'm ignored for about 5 good minutes and sometimes it makes me turn around. If you sit down, the servers are... ..... okay. They're not very attentive, to say the least.
The coffee is good, and so are the belgian waffles.
I usually get the XTC latte. Delish.
This place is great almost any time. Â I've been there with my boyfriend for a fast, cheap, delicious lunch in the middle of a summer day when they open up the front of store so you're almost sitting outdoors. Â I've been there on a Wednesday night for open mic night, which is always entertaining. Â I've been there for breakfast and that's delicious. Â And I've been there for just a cup of coffee. Â This place has a great, cozy feel to it- like you're in a friend's house....a friend who really likes hippie music paraphernalia! :) Â The food is really affordable and surprisingly good. Â The service has always been good. Â Every now and then one of the teenage servers forgets about you because her boyfriend is visiting but overall there is nothing to complain about.
Review Source:Always predictably fantastic, Rockin Joe's is a great local hang out. The ambiance is what many coffee houses should be -- an edgy place with great wait staff and a real desire to please their customers. Food is always excellent and although not hugely varied, it hits home with clean tastes with a bit of a European feel. Excellent job -- Keep Rockin!
Review Source:One word . ENCHANTING
On a lazy Sunday morning, I was invited to meet a friend at this place. Located in a side street of the Westfield downtown area, this place had gave me a cozy warm feeling from the moment I took the first step into Rockn' Joe Coffeehouse.
The ambience of this place is fantastic. It has some framed LP covers and an abundance of classic rock posters decorating the walls and a lovely song by Clay Aiken playing in the background.
The waitress, Erica, was super quick at service. She seated my friend and I immediately even considering it was pretty packed for a Sunday. The coffee and waffle selection on the menu looked pretty darn good. With so many waffley choices my brain kinda got confused so I had to ask the waitress to get whatever she liked.
She got me some waffle with cinnamon and Nutella topped with strawberries and something similar for my friend. Both the waffles looked quite scrumptious. Oh man, the waffle tasted aaaaaaaaaammmmmmmaaaaaaaaazing too... Â :) After gorging our respective mouth-watering waffles, we ordered some coffee.
I must admit that although I am not a vivid coffee drinker, this was the best coffee I have ever had. I had the Caramel XTC latte. Truly a caramel Heaven.
It was indeed hard to leave this place but other things had to be taken of... But I am looking forward to my next visit. I have to try all their waffles and varieties of coffee.
Although it is a bit pricey, it sure hits the spot for a beautiful Sunday morning breakfast.
Cheers
I've been to the other Rockn' Joe a few towns away but that was more for dessert and coffee. Â This time around it was for a full fledged meal. Its decor mirrors that of its nearby counterpart. Â LP covers decorate the walls, there is a requisite Woodstock poster along with guitars. Â There are even music themed drinks such as their "Dark Side of the Moo" drink. Â There is definitely a fun atmosphere among its comfortable chairs and couches.
My girlfriend and I sat down and our waitress appeared almost immediately. Â She offered a wine list, but we declined and she disappeared just as quickly, leaving us to decide what we wanted to order. Â So we looked, debated...and waited...and waited...
When we finally saw our waitress again - her shift had ended. Â She was tallying her money, and her replacement was too busy attending to other tables to notice us until I made eye contact with her and kind of gave her the "Um...we're hungry." look. Â She came over and we ordered. Â The food came out in good time, but she only checked on us once during the meal - and again, it was because I basically all but grabbed her as she whizzed past us at warp speed. Â I was sorely, sorely disappointed in the service, especially when I had received wonderful service from their other branch.
Anyhow, what about the food? Â I ordered an iced red tea with mango flavor as my drink and it was absolutely wonderful. Â Flavorful and sweet without being overwhelming. Â My order was a panini with portabella mushrooms and brie cheese. Â This panini was *amazing*. Â The bread was crisp and warm on the outside while soft and chewy on the inside. Â The mushroom was cooked perfectly and the cheese was wonderfully salty and sweet at the same time.
My girlfriend's sandwich was an open faced turkey breast sandwich. Â I was struck by how wonderfully smoky the turkey was, and the mustard that came with it added a nice kick.
Truthfully if I had received better service, I would have given this four stars.  I love the atmosphere and the food is awesome (and cheap!).  However, I really don't appreciate a shift change happening with no  one either telling us or making sure we were being taken care of.  I think I'll stick with the other one.
Happened upon Rockn' Joe while walking around Westfield on a regular trip to Trader Joe's a few blocks away. Â Food selection was excellent, a bit bummed that they stop serving breakfast after noon on Saturdays but got over it since they had a good selection of lunch items.
We got one gourmet grilled cheese and one chicken club, both were good with an iced coffee and san pelligrino it came to $25.
Wil have to go back to try other stuff (breakfast pastries) before adding another star.
Ambiance: Very cool, laid back, mix of couples and young families.
Service: A bit on the slow side considering only 5 of the 20 tables were full.
I recently had the occasion to go to Rockn' Joe in downtown Westfield for a geocaching event. I have to say though that the coffeehouse scene is not for me. I thought the place was dark and loud, but the latter was because of open mic night. The food was overpriced for relatively small portions and I didn't think there was anything really outstanding on the menu. Granted the ambiance, not the food, is the point of this place, but still. On the plus side, I had absolutely no issue with the service. I thought it was a miracle the server could hear my order over the music. I had a quiche with fruit cup.
There doesn't appear to be designated parking for this establishment but parking is abundant at the municipal lot just a block away and there is no parking fee at night.
