Modest sized Italian place with a fairly cheap menu. Most you'll probably spend is $12.00 for an entree. There are everyday specials so be sure to check it out for a good deal. Classic Italian items include various sandwiches, pizza, pasta, and chicken dishes. Everything is pretty good overall. If you're getting pizza, live on the edge and try one of the specialty pizzas. Pizza by the slice and delivery service are available. They serve booze here and there's even a small bar in the corner. Service is good and staff is friendly.
Review Source:Romano's makes the perfect example of the classic Chicago tavern style, thin crust pizza with homemade sausage. Â The crust is very thin with nice, crisp edges. Â The cheese is very tasty, and the tomato sauce is the perfect blend of garlic, zest, and sweetness. Â Most places are rarely all three, but Romano's tomato sauce recipe is somehow pulling it off. Â And the above mentioned sausage is housemade, and it's perfectly seasoned. Â It's excellent in every way. Â
The cheesecake desert is very good, and they have free drink refills for your pop.  The server was very nice, and very family friendly/accomodating.  She seemed to know everybody in the place by first name, and she made us feel like she'd known us for 20 years, even though this was the first time I ever stepped foot in the place. Â
This was an excellent experience all the way around.  Romano's is the quintessential Chicago thin crust pizza with sausage.  Very old school in everyway.  No wonder why they were in business for 60 years from their original location in Des Plaines.  Hopefully, they will live a long life at this new location in Rosemont.
The tradition of offering one of Chicago's best thin crust pizza's, continues in their new Rosemont Location. I am somewhat partial of Romanos as I have enjoyed their pizza for nearly 50 years since I was a young lad! Â Forget the negative comments about service, and enjoy a thin slice of heavan!!
Review Source:I was not feeling the specials at my usual lunch time place. I decided to stop in for a slice and a small salad...because you know, veggies are important. I also picked up a couple slices (and salad) for my co-worker. I am just that sweet.
I was really hesitant about coming here b/c of the reviews but my co-worker assured me the slices were good. I placed our order - 3 slices of pepperoni, 2 garden salads and an order of arancini. I cannot resist the fried risotto.
The slices were in fact pretty good. I was expecting something flimsy, doughy and super cheesy. Instead I got a nice crispy slice with the right amount of cheese and sauce. That is pretty much where the accolades stop.
A garden salad is not hard to put together. I know because I made one last night! The lettuce was pretty nasty. A lot of it was wilted and was starting to brown. I hate that. There is no excuse for this. I picked through the salad, throwing most of the lettuce out (see pic). The arancini was not bad but it was not great. I appreciated that it was served with red sauce but would have liked if it was served on the side - the crispiness of the fried risotto was lost.
Everyone seemed a little frazzled at Romanos when I stopped by. The place was bustling. The man at the register who took my order was nice enough but everyone else was a bit gruff. It's Friday, people! I'll be back for a slice, but not sure I'll be trying anything else.
We found Romano's when we were looking for pizza after returning to Chicago. Â This is the best thin crust pizza in Chicago!! Â The crust is cracker thin and this is hard to find. Wow that's thin. Â Just had vegetarian pizza so I cant tell about the sausage. Only have been to Romano's twice but definitely will be back. Â The salads are a little heavy on the dressing but I usually ask for it on the side.
Review Source:Can't argue with the service, they take your order, and get it out fairly quick... But after my second visit, there hasn't been much to brag about concerning the food. This last trip netted a Veggie Panini. Came out quick x 2 (if you get my drift LOL). Plenty of Veg, and for around six bucks, it was sized right; but I can't help but think they bathed the zucchini, squash, mushroom, etc., in a butter bath before throwing them on the grill. Literally dripping wet. The bread/bun stood no chance with this one up. It was edible, and the veg were cooked through, but it was an oily grinder, and seasoning was on the low end. Not sure about the cheese either... Seemed to be dripping with the oily butter as well. I may give the pizza a chance down the line, but judging on their recent shortcomings, it'll probably be my last visit.
Review Source:Inexpensive slices which need only minutes of reheating before served. Â Thin style with a crisp crust, fold-able, I feel as though the crust is brushed with butter, it has this flavor with every bite. Â Sauce is salty not sweet, but not overly salty either. Â Just right. Â Two slices and a can of pop run somewhere around five and half dollars, a little over four dollars for just the two slices. Â Just filling enough for a quick lunch. Â Warm surroundings and helpful wait staff. Â Much of their menu items, are, in my opinion affordable. Â You can stay within your budget by shopping off their daily specials menu.
Depending on what you'd like you may like to call ahead and check; as many items can sell out by lunch time, weekdays can be busy. Â Good place to have a lunch with coworkers, much of their weekday crowd are locally employed. Â Not something I would travel out of my way for, but for convenience.
------------
Only a couple hours later and my tummy was rumbling. Â Two slices were not enough. Â I might go back to try a daily special, but not for pizza.
Blech.
We ordered Romano's Pizza at a family gathering since it's the closest pizza place to my apartment. Pizza came after 45 minutes....and this place is literally a hop away. It was thin crust but had next to no sauce on the pizza. It was literally just cheese and crust. What little sauce that was slathered on tasted like something from a jar. Just plain gross.
When I first walked into the restaurant I was impressed by the decor and atmosphere. Not a place where you would take your first date, but more of a place for a quick bite to eat. As I walked toward the cashier to view the menu, I noticed today's special "pulled pork sandwich". Not sure if this is an Italian dish, but I was not about to order something I thought belonged in a BBQ restaurant. Then I noticed shelves displaying Barilla Pasta which dropped my jaw to the floor. Now, in my opinion, any Italian restaurant should have fresh home made pasta and not store bought. I started to question if they use Prego for their sauce. If this place does use Barilla pasta, then hide the boxes in the kitchen and don't display it to the customers! I decided to try their meatball panini. It was not bad, but it was not anything I would rave about. The sauce was a little bland and could use a little more spice.
Review Source:LOVE the thin crust pizza(Sausage and onion!!!). I've been going to the Des Plaines location for their thin crust pizza for years and this location is every bit as good! Seems like they do have a couple things to iron out but the pizza's spot on! This location's pizza is definitely in our dinner rotation!
Review Source:Ate here this past week for the first time. Â It's been open a few months now. Â The decor is pleasant, and the staff friendly. Â It's a place where you order at the counter, and they'll serve the food at your table.
We arrived before the lunch crowd, around 11:30. Â We were the only customers (more came as noon approached). Â I ordered a great-sounding Italian panini, with deli meats and cheeses, topped with olive salad. Â The olive salad sold me. Â My friend ordered the daily special, roast turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes.
My friend's dish was served first. Â Looked like a diner special, but the turkey was fresh roasted and not processed. Â Â He enjoyed the turkey, but it wasn't anything special.
When my order came I was a bit confused. Â Paninis are grilled sandwiches, typically made on a panini press, which gives the bread a distinctive crunch and grill marks. Â My sandwich was not pressed, nor grilled. Â And after a few bites, I realized it had no olive salad. Â Â After asking our server, a side of olive salad was provided. Â With the olive salad, the sandwich was a tasty sandwich, even if the texture was not what I expected. Â It was heated, not unlike a Potbelly's sub. Â Â
Speaking of texture, the owners and I have different definitions of an olive salad. Â When I hear olive salad, I think of the muffaletta-type olive salad, chunky in texture. Â Romanos olive salad was smooth and processed, like a tapenade. Â It was briny, garlicky, and cheesy. Â Very tasty. Â But again my own expectations from what was on the menu board were not met. Â
Our server, while very friendly, was too friendly. Â Stopping by to chat several times throughout the meal above and beyond checking on how we were doing. Â It felt intrusive.
In summary, nice people, decent food, but not too distinguished from the many other Italian spots within a very short distance of this place. Â Â We will try ordering in from there, as the food was decent, but its doubtful we'll return to eat in.
As I stood in line to order, the person who should be taking the order was ignoring me. Â The server who was supposed to deliver my food couldn't find my table and was walking all over asking people if my food was their order. Â When I started eating my "eggplant parmesean" it was frozen in the middle. Â When the server brought back my eggplant, she still couldn't find the table. Â I will not be going back.
