Wow, what a disappointment.  The other reviews here sum it up well, but to echo the sentiments....  The service is absolutely awful.  We stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon - very slow, very few people there - and yet it took forever to get our drinks and the waitress seemed to disappear for 15-20 minutes at a time.  The drinks are way overpriced and simply not done well.  $9 for a martini?  I don't think so.  The strawberry daiquiri was almost all mix with no real flavor.  And the food - outrageously priced, the portions are very small, and there is absolutely nothing upscale about any of it.  I got the calamari appetizer ($11)  It came in a "Chinese box."  It looked like something from a fast food place.  It was half the size and nowhere near as good as what I get at Max Fish for the same price.  My fiancé got the "lobster roll" at $18 (!!)  Now if you're going to pay that much - you expect something special - yet what she got was barely edible and seemed to come out of a freezer . Her comment summed it up nicely... the Lobster Roll Panera Bread offers is bigger, tastes much better and is cheaper.  This place also had an odd smell to it - like someone spilled beer and tried to cover it up with something.  In summary - this place needs a LOT of work before we'd ever consider coming back.  I'd recommend it to someone who wants to meet for *one* drink and move on.  This is not a place for a memorable dinner (well, you will remember what a rip off it was!) or which leaves the impression of "wow, I have to come back."  And that's a shame given its prime location.  Compared to everything else around it, this place just falls very flat and has nothing appealing about it.  Your money will be much better spent at either Max restaurant nearby, Sakura Garden downstairs, or Magee McFly's.
Review Source:Father's day brunch was a disaster. I am only giving it 2 stars because the drinks were good. Â It took over an hour to get any food or drink. Â The first thing that arrived were burnt, cold "beignets". The waiter admitted they were an embarrassment and took them away. By the time most of our food came (approaching the 2 hour mark), everything was cold. Â My husband ordered shrimp and polenta. Â When he went to pick up the shrimp, the entire meal came off the plate. Â My sister's salad was so overdressed, dressing squished out after every bite. Â The list goes on and on. Â They need new kitchen management sorely. Â It's quite sad, because the place itself is quite pretty.
Review Source:I met up with friends here last week on a Friday night. They got there fairly early & secured an outside table for us, which was great. I really loved the atmosphere out there.
I didn't have any food but the girls ordered a cheese plate, and a veggie risotto. The veggie risotto is on the menu as lobster risotto but one of the girls doesn't like lobster (I know, right?!) so they happily customized it for her. Our server was very kind and went over the menu for some gluten-free options for one of the girls who has Celiac disease. The server also went to the kitchen to double check on how a couple of dishes were prepared so that there wouldn't be any problems.
I had a vodka tonic for dinner, and there was plenty of vodka, which made me happy.
The demographic was interesting. When I first arrived around 6:30, the crowd was definitely older - more toward the 40+ crowd but by the time we left around 10, the crowd had obviously swung toward the late 20/early 30's. Everyone seemed to be having fun and enjoying the location more than anything.
I'd go again, but with a Groupon. Everything was pricey. Overall I don't think there's anything that "special" about Rooftop 120, other than the location, but I'm willing to try it out and order some food next time.
Parking sucks, like everything else in that plaza, but $5 valet is available.
Ok I have been dying to come back here, especially since they put out a 2nd Groupon. As it so happens a very close friend of mine and her husband were moving to Ohio, they had always wanted to go, so where better to celebrate their new adventure?! It was a GORGEOUS day and the rooftop was in full swing. We had a margarita, a Mangi Mai Tai and a Coronita. All hit the spot. We then opted for a flatbread as an appetizer. We chose the Normandy at it was tasty, however, it was pretty burned on one end which my friend was not really pleased with but I was freakin' starving.. so I overlooked it. I opted for the Paella and was especially pleased that I could special order without mussels. It was fantastic! The came dessert....I was so excited to get my hands back on the Banana Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding but ended up a bit disappointed. It was kind of dry this time and I LOVE hazelnut ice cream but the BP really kind of drowns out the flavor. It would honestly be better off with vanilla. Now my friend's fiance had the cheesecake with salted caramel ice cream. That ice cream was vomitous, revolting, heinous. It was pure salt! This has to be some sort of culinary mistake. Becuase NO ONE would eat this... NO ONE. Â I love you Rooftop but Because of this and the dry bread pudding (Fail), it remains 4 stars.
Review Source:Overall it was an ok experience. Â We went for their first day of brunch. Â Tried to give them some credit as it was the first day. Â However they have been a restaurant for quite some time so the basics should be there. Â The service was SLOW!! Â It took at least 10 minutes for our water and cocktails to arrive. Â About 15 minutes after we placed our order the server asked my husband how he wanted his meat cooked-clearly he hadn't put the order in yet. Â My husband knocked my daughter's paper cup over and we asked for another juice. Â They actually brought the juice in the same cup that was 1/2 crushed and had been on the floor. Â
Both the owners seemed to be there. Â One was just grouchy-he sped past our table and told us to put our feet down (we were relaxed with our legs on the couch) as he was on his way to greet someone he knew- they clearly got their food in 1/2 the time we did. Â The other owner was very friendly and came to chat with us for a bit just to check in. Â
The food and drinks were average. Â My husband had the steak tips and I had eggs Benedict. Â My portion size was tiny where as his was a good size. Â My daughter had the grilled cheese which was advertised as including tomatoes that never made it in. Â Two tables on either side of us complained that they didn't receive part of their food order, our server offered excuse after excuse and blamed everything on the kitchen instead of just fixing the problem.
The venue is terrific, what better way to have brunch than on the rooftop under the warm sun. Â However unless they make major improvements I will stick to my theory that it's only good for drinks.
This place just can't get it together. Â I've been there a few times and it's a disappointment each time. Â I've given it a few chances since it was fairly new the first few times I went but it's been about 2 years now and they still struggle.
I went on a Wednesday night with about 10 friends and we had a reservation. Â There weren't many people dining there but it still took over an hour after we ordered to get any of our food out. Â And when the server did bring our food out, she only brought food for half our table. Â She never offered an explanation as to what was taking so long. Â I was so pissed, I cancelled my order (a salad). Â What could possibly be going on in the kitchen to take so long for a salad?
I went back during the summer for the outdoor patio. Â It's nice to sit outside but there's not a good view of anything from either side. Â The mixed drinks were impossible to ingest. Â They were disghusting and my friend and I couldn't drink them. Â This was the first time in my life that I sent a drink back.
I went back in the fall and ordered a glass of Shiraz and an order of Truffle Fries. Â I was given a glass of some white wine and an order of tater tots. Â How can someone mess up an order of two items?
Besides the terrible service, the people there are snooty. Â The only reason I gave this rating 2 stars is because of the atmosphere and decor. Â It's really a cool place inside. Â It's so frustrating that they can't get their stuff together for service and food.
Also, no reservations for outdoor dining. Â Boo.
I have been wanting to try this place since it opened. Â The rooftop area seemed nice, although it was too cold the night we went. Â Â We had reservations for 7 in the restaurant (you can't make reservations for the bar area) and were seated pretty close to the entrance. Â The service was lacking and slow. Â The spinach artichoke dip was yummy, but really small. Â We ordered some flatbreads and when they came, one of the waiters dropped a piece of our shrimp pizza on the floor. Â When we told our waitress about it, she copped a huge attitude and didn't want to give us any money off for their error. Â We also ordered a French onion soup but did not get a spoon to eat it with until 15 minutes later. Â By that time, the soup was cold and not edible.
Would I go back here to eat? Â Definitely not. Â I might go to check out the rooftop, but feel I'd get a better experience elsewhere.
I was presently surprised with my visit here this past Saturday night. My girlfriend and I were visiting from out of town and went out to eat with her sister and brother in law. We had a 7:15 reservation and were seated immediately after arriving.
The decor is, for a lack of a better term, funky. It's on the third floor of a strip-mall type complex (strip mall isn't the correct term, but it's all I got right now). For the shape of the space they have, I felt like they did an excellent job. The tables were not crowded at all so you felt like your table was semi-private.
I split an appetizer of the "East Meets West" Tartar, which is a tuna tartar and a salmon tartar. I thought the Salmon was delicious, while my girlfriend preferred the tuna. Next to the Salmon was a wonton-type chip and next to the tuna was a tortilla chip. I feel like they could have found a better accompaniment than a tortilla chip, but it still added a nice crunch.
For an entree, we both ended up ordering the Duck Sausage Risotto. There was a lot more sausage than I expected in the dish, and it came with an herb butter on top. The risotto was cooked very well, the sausage was extremely flavorful. I'm not sure if I was a fan of the herb butter. It tasted good, but it kind of felt like an unnecessary addition. Part of the description of the dish says there is foie gras. I'm not sure if they mean it was part of the butter or actually part of the risotto, but either way, neither of us could find it.
For drinks I just had a beer. The beer selection isn't too massive, but the prices aren't gouging so that's a plus. My girlfriend ordered a black raspberry sangria and while there was some flavor, it was packed with ice and quite watery even from my first sip.
There are a few other things I would like to point out in this review. I really couldn't get a good understanding of what was going on with the menu. According to the description on Yelp, this is a Tapas/Small Plates restaurant...but that's not really an option on the menu. I'm not sure if there is a seasonal change, but there seemed to mostly be appetizers and entrees. A true small plates restaurant should focus on the appetizers/small plate options and feature a small amount of entrees. The type of food is kind of all over the place. It's tasty food, but there wasn't a clear vision as to what the main goal of the chef was. Â I also found that the dish sizes didn't seem quite the right size. I know, strange observation, but our risotto didn't cover the entire bottom of our giant bowls, and it crowded our small table when all the dishes were served.
Towards the end of our meal, we also lost track of our server. One member of our group finished her entree a little slower than the rest, but she sat with her finished plate in front of her for at least 15 minutes. Eventually it was cleared, but not by our server. She did apologize later on and thanked us for our patience. What I did like was that the check was divided up by Seat #. This would make it a lot easier to split the bill if you didn't want to go 50/50...however the breakdown orders for each seat weren't correct so we still had to calculate the splitting of the bill ourselves.
Overall I had a good time. The food was better than I expected, but there's a lot going on here that prevent me from rating this restaurant higher. I do see a lot of potential here and I wouldn't be surprised to see myself eating at Rooftop 120 again when I return to Connecticut.
I ate the pork chop and I think it is my favorite dish here now. Â The service is really great. Â You obviously want to be seated on the rooftop during the warmer months. There's a great mix of people here from older to younger professionals because of their happy hour specials. They have a great atmosphere and it's always a pleasant experience. The only problem is the parking and let me tell you it is the WORST. Â Besides this, Rooftop is phenomenal.
Review Source:I've been here a few times, I love the layout and the fact that you're on a rooftop. I can only imagine how beautiful it must look to see the sun set from up there. There are few places where you can hangout and drink outside. This reminded me of a place that would belong in Florida, minus the palm trees. Drinks are a little pricey, but the strawberry martini & mojito I tried were definitely worth it. Music could be a little better though.
Review Source:I went here with a couple of friends to check it out since I had a Groupon. A little bit on the high side for prices but it was worth it! We only had an appetizer and drinks, but they were phenomenal!! I have been searching for a place to make a FRESH fruit mojito since the first time I had one in 2007 and Rooftop 120 surpassed my expectations!! It was by far the best mojito I've ever had and will definitely be going back again for more!!
We also got the spinach and artichoke dip (classic) and it was so creamy and delicious. I cannot wait to try more items on the menu!!
1.) Are you in your 20 or 30 something's and want to go to a place where people arent like college frat or sorority girls? Come to the Rooftop 120 to have fun in a sophisticated way. T'Was a Saturday night, a live DJ was playing good music, and a whole bunch of good looking people were there. People were dressed up, trendy and not so pretentious. I felt at home here.
2.) Reason for coming here:
Some ladies invited me out, so along with that, the reviews from Yelp and my motivation to do some hopping around Glastonbury bars was deep in my veins.
3.) Aesthetics:
Classy. Right out of the elevator you just felt classy smack you on the head. The decor was just very upscale - from the dining area to the bar to the rooftop. This place looked new, clean and big for a bar area. I liked the sliding doors, I liked the fire places along with the fire lamps hanging near the doors, I liked the organization of how the staff ran this place.
4.) Impressions:
Great night life here. Now I want to try their food!
The wife and I are regulars here, so I thought I might throw a review out there. Its a very difficult place to rate, as I hedged between 3 and 4 stars. Let me first explain, that we dont eat full meals there, but go more for the drinks and small plate appetizers.
First, the good to great. The service has always been top notch. The bartenders are all friendly, and knowledgeable and make great drinks. As weve progressed in age, It is more fun for us to go and have a properly made cocktail than 12 poorly crafted ones. They have a good selection of beers on tap as well. Yesterday, we enjoyed some mojitos (fantastic) and specially made zombies for the Halloween party later that evening.
The food is infinitely better than a couple of years ago when Rooftop 120 opened, They seem to have found their groove in going to be a high end bar with upscale food selections. Last night we ordered the new steak and cheese egg rolls. Essentially a deep fried steak and cheese with a creamy fondue cheese sauce. They were as unbelievable as they sound. Nice and crisp outside with a gooey,, cheesy center. The added dipping sauce is a bit of indulgence, but while drinking large cocktails and eating fried steak and cheese, it was an indulgant night. We also had the calamari which came with a kimchi aioli to dip in. The calamari was standard fare, a little less crisp than most places (which i prefer) but the standout was the kimchi aiol. If i could bathe in it, I would. With both plates, the presentation was top notch, and we enjoyed all of the food.
Now, the negative. Rooftop 120 is unapologetic in its quest to bring a more upscale dining feel. With this comes the price tag. I find the prices to be a bit unreasonable for Connecticut. 12.75 for a tall mojito is a bit outrageous, but again the drink is fantastically made. So, in this case, you opt for quality over quantity but get hit with the bill at the end. The food is also quite pricey, especially considering the portion size. They take "small plate" and dont change from that. The egg rolls were 12 bucks and consisted of 2 full egg rolls. In fact, all small plates are over 10 dollars, ranging to closer to 20 as well. The main plates, are all modest portions with a high end price point. Probably my only real complaint about Rooftop 120.
I will say that if I were to review this place 2 years ago, it would have gotten 1 star. But each stage of their process in becoming what they want to be has been done well, and I have noticed that in the amount of people dining and drinking there.
One word of warning, if you like to go and chill on the later side, Rooftop 120 will turn into more of a cougar and youngster dance club between 9 and 10, including a dj. If youre there for a meal, or to have a converstaion, be prepared to be wrapped up by 9 and out the door.
We will certainly be going back, as Rooftop 120 has taken over as our local hangout. Great food, even better drinks and beers and amazing service from the barstaff. Just make sure you bring your wallet, as it will be a fair amount lighter by the end of the evening.
So my wife and I had a night out with our son at karate camp and decided to give Rooftop120 a try. Â We scored a recent Groupon and a co-worker actually was pretty positive on the place. Â We've been to Plan B and a few other spots in the area and always wondered what it was like up on the top of that building....Time of visit was a Friday night @ 6PM in October...
The place itself is pretty cool. Â Very trendy and love the outdoors vibe. Â Great place to probably meet co-workers or your other single friends for a drink at happy hour or beyond. Â We were there for a meal though, and all of the tables / booths were not really a good fit for dining...we actually asked to move from a table to a booth where we wouldn't be leaning over in an awkward way to eat. Â Also note that the place is LOUD and actually louder outside than in due to speakers piping in music...Wasn't bad, but certainly don't go expecting to have an intimate conversation...
Next up, we'll discuss service...Main reason for low score (and my wife would probably want to give a 1 star rating solely based on this). Â Service.....is....very.....very....very.....slow. Â I ordered a beer and got it 30 minutes later. Â We specifically ordered raw bar and appetizers to keep the pace quick, but were frustrated throughout. Â Waiter would keep forgetting us, come over and make excuses, and then forget us some more. Â Those who know me, know I don't make a scene, but when another waiter came over to ask how we were, I let him know that the service was very bad. Â Saw him go speak to a higher up, but no one ever apologized. Â Service was so bad, I deliberately left a 10% tip w/ a note that it was due to bad service.
Food was...ok? Â We ordered raw bar and were surprised that they didn't dislodge clams / oysters from shell. Â Most places charging Rooftop120 prices would make the extra touch and the shrimp were tough...Lobster Rangoon were OK I guess...Give them points for nice presentation. Â I was impressed with the wings...ordered the sweet chile. Â There is a bright spot.
If anyone associated with restaurant reads this and writes me off as just a naysayer, read my other reviews. Â I am a positive guy most of the time. Â Believe me...I wanted to like your establishment and talked my wife out of going to J. Gilberts to try out your restaurant. Â Won't be coming back.
I have been here a few times for drinks mostly. Â
One time I got some appetizers (fish taco) and it was not good. Â Too salty, too much breading, just unsavory. Â
The drinks: I would say stick with pre-bottled drinks and stay away from martinis or any drinks that require some skill to make. Â The times I got them I did not like the flavor. Â
Atmosphere is more relaxed and the crowd is usually older or mixed. Â Not sure where the cougars are but I was not looking for them anyway. Â :) Â The DJ is hit or miss... not the greatest music selection or playing skill. Â If you want to dance, expect limited space and probably a small crowd to none at times.
Good place to chill with friends.
This place is pretty cool! I remember it being a little different from a while ago, and I like the bar area but was disappointed by the outdoor seating area. The drink menu was fabulous as always, and the appetizer menu also delicious although limited. We opted not to try anything on the regular menu because we were so smitten with the hummus. Came during a weeknight which was good for us for the outing we desired. Try the flaming bowl of alcohol, just the right amount of alcohol for two!
Review Source:I never did get around to eating any food from Rooftop, but the two times I went for drinks, I got what I expected. An Absolut and soda came to $10 (which, in my opinion, is way too much). The decor and layout is nice, and I do like the concept of a rooftop bar. To be fair, though, the atmosphere is just not something I look for: super-loud music and packed with patrons of all ages (cougars, just-turned-21-girls, creepy older dudes on the prowl).
Review Source:The only thing that was good about Rooftop 120 was the hummus. Â
First, we were seated at an outdoor "round" table that was very low to the ground. Â We were there for dinner so we asked if we could be seated inside instead. Â We were seated inside and the table was too high in comparison with the chairs. Â It was difficult to eat either way! Â We got the sangria, which did not taste as if it had any alcohol in it (kinda watered down-tasting). Â We got a few appetizers; the hummus was actually pretty good. Â The crab cakes; eh. Â The chicken lettuce wraps; I couldnt even eat mine. Â (There were 3 and 3 of us.) Â I took one bite and offered mine to my friends. Â The atmosphere and ambience was just strange. Â
Also, a waiter dropped a bunch of glass and one of the shards came flying at my face. Â Luckily, I was not scratched or hurt by the glass, but wow! Not even an apology or asked if I was okay. Â
Oh, I can't forget about the DJ set up directly behind us. Â It was already difficult to hear the people at my table, but once that was turned on, I could not wait to get out of there.
All in all, I will not be returning.
Unacceptable Service!
It is never OK to get seated by the host and then simply sit, waiting for service. My husband and I were looking forward to a fun night out - drinks and food on at a rooftop restaurant on a lovely summer evening. We were seated promptly, told that so and so would be our server and would be with us momentarily. Well, we sat for 15 minutes and no one ever came by, not even to offer water. In addition the noise from the bar was so loud we couldn't have a reasonable conversation. It was around 6:00 pm on a weeknight and not hugely busy. We got up and left. Then as we were walking out, someone noticed! They offered free drinks of we would come back. At that point we just wanted to get out of there. Went downstairs and had a great meal at Plan B.
We sat inside since the day was overcast and super humid. They have stylish alcoves in between sloped ceilings which house semi-private booths. We ordered a bottle of Cupcake Red Velvet wine after we tried a sip of a different red wine that was too dry. Â I appreciated that the waitress offered a sample before we chose our wine, it was a sign of decent customer service. We got calamari for an app, it came with some kind of fried pepper slices, they were spicy and came with some version of salsa/marina dipping sauce. The portion size on the app was just right.
They had a cheese plate on the menu but i knew I was getting a meal with brie in it so I didn't go for it, even though I lovvvve cheeses. Maybe next time.... I got the gourmet turkey burger with aforementioned brie, caramelized onions, and guacamole. It came with sweet potato tater tots.
All in all the ambiance and food and drink selection was great!
The idea of Rooftop 120 is great. Â Who doesn't like a roof deck? Â Although, maybe I'm just spoiled and really enjoy my city views....but it's hard to enjoy a roof deck of a place situated in a random plaza parking lot. Â
Besides that fact, they have great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Â I came here with a bunch of girlfriends for a late Saturday dinner. Â We were late for our reservation so they almost didn't seat us but ended up squeezing us in at the last minute. Â We ordered a bunch of apps to share. Â The best by far were the sweet potato tater tots that came with this cinnamon aioli - so good!
After dinner we hung out and tried to enjoy the bar scene. Â The night we were there it was a very mixed crowd. Â From the 20-30s crowd to old creepy men doing laps around the restaurant (no lie).
My friend and I went to Rooftop120 today and we were impressed. The entrance is quaint and very welcoming. I ordered a Rooftop Sunset and it was awesome. This was one of the best drinks that I've had in a while. Then I ordered the Short Rib Sliders which was tasty but I requested a side of ketchup and tobasco sauce. I needed an extra umph.
I had a chance to enjoy drinks and some short rib sliders while enjoying an amazing view. The seats were comfortable and it began to get more crowded. The ambiance was classy, trendy and there were positive vibes.
For a sweet ending I ordered a Tempura Fried Double Stuff Oreos with a cup of milk. This is a great place for young professionals, date or relax with some friends old and new. Â It's a combination of South Beach and Las Vegas. Â
Also, the waitstaff was excellent and I had the best waiter. She was very personable and helpful.
I'm bullet pointing this because my lack of review-writing effort is a metaphor .
Pros:
The view
The layout.
Raw bar sampler.
Comfy chairs.
Decent food.
Cons:
Obnoxious parking situation made worse by a poorly located valet.
Trash. Yes, Trash. I get that a rooftop restaurant can't just chuck garbage out the back door in a dumpster, Â but watching kitchen staff carry garbage bags through the dining room, to the elevator while you eat is a turnoff. (this happened more than once)
Unoriginal menu. Gourmet burgers, Mac and cheese, lobster ravio-zzzzzzzzzz. Oh, I'm sorry, what were we talking about?
Bartenders/waitstaff who knowingly over serve. There are far, far too many people stumbling and slurring their way to the elevator to dismiss as being an incidence of "maybe she/he hid it well when they were seated." These are not young 20 something's either, they're in their 40s and 50s and I've seen this behavior on both of my visits to Rooftop. It's gross and kills the atmosphere.
Seemed like a nice place. Then the waitress recommended a strawberry peach sangria pitcher. For $36 we expected it to taste better and have some liquor in it. Watered down & no flavor. We explained this to the waitress. She then ignored us for almost an hour. We couldn't get anymore drinks, food or service. Shitty place, horrible service. My friend noticed the table next to us was also annoyed at the lack of service. We offered to pay for the drinks but not the watery pitcher of no flavor sangria. She said only the manager could deal with this and we waited another 15 minutes. We were hungry and just wanted a good drink.
Review Source:Went to Rooftop 120 for dinner and drinks to catch up with an old colleague. We were going to sit outside but it started to rain so we were seated at one of the high top tables. We quickly relocated to the bar as there was little table space on the hightop table. Bartender was attentive and took our drink order quickly; a pitcher of Mango Peach sangria. The Sangria was fantastic. We started with the hummus and baba ganoush platter. Platter was huge with two good bowls of the hummus/ganoush, carrots, celery, green beans cucumbers, tomatos, olives and pita bread. Very good portion for $12, and enough for both of us.
For entrees I ordered the Ahi Tuna with a side of sweet potato tots, and my colleague ordered the Atlantic Salmon with a side of truffle fries. The tuna was great and cooked perfectly to medium rare as requested. I was not a fan of the sweet potato tots, there was too much cinnamon and it was overwhelming. My colleague said the Salmon was good. I tried the truffle fries and they were too die for.
Ended with espresso and Sambuca and an Irish coffee. Â
Over all food was great, service was great, atmosphere was fine. The one con was all the seats looked dirty. I asked a waitress on the way out, and she said it was from being outside. I would think when they are charging people around $50 a mean, they would have money to replace the dirty cushions.
Pros:
Great Sangria
Good Food
Good Service
Cons:
Dirty Seats
View, there is none.
Cashed in our Living Social deal and had a late lunch/early dinner here this afternoon (Sunday). Rooftop 120 is a pretty large establishment, there is a traditional dining room if you want a traditional dining room, and they also occupy the rooftop space; broken down into a large covered central bar that is flanked by uncovered tables for a true outdoor experience. There are large overhead heaters so you can have enjoy rooftop dining in December or January if you want to. So Rooftop 120 gets 5 stars for creativity and style and for a real unique look. Feels more like upscale Miami than suburban Glastonbury.
I hear the nightlife is pretty crazy here, but since we were there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was fairly empty, I'll review the food.
We started with cocktails - a nice cold Stella Artois draft was $5.50. My son went for a New Castle draft, also $5.50. Pretty fair prices for a nice place. We shared a marinated calamari salad, which was a very good value for $5.75. It was a generous portion (see photo) of tender delicious calamari, cooked perfectly without the rubber band quality I run into a lot. It was served with seaweed and julienned veggies in a nice citrus ginger dressing. It was very good,
We each had an entree. My wife had the Tacos de Carne - $12.75 for two corn tortillas with beef, served with creme fraiche, cilantro, cabbage, Â and queso fresco. It came with no accompaniments- no guac, no salsa, no sour cream, no beans and rice. The plate looked very light, although the tacos were very good.
My son had Murray's Fried Chicken - $18.75 for three (rather small) pieces of buttermilk fried chicken served with truffled mac and cheese and siracha honey. Yes, the food was good, but for almost $19 it looked light.
I had the Gourmet Turkey Burger - $14.75 for a GIANT ground turkey patty served on a fresh roll with oyster mushrooms, brie, carmelized onions, a half of a pickle, and a good mound of french fries. It was delicious and a pretty darned good value. (I shared the fries with the others).
Our total was $84.55, with $28 of it attributable to the 5 beers we had. Looking back on the meal, I feel the food pricing was kind of OK, but two of the 3 plates seemed a little light in the value department. This is a nice place, not a dump, so I'm OK with paying a little more for food, especially when you take the unique layout and rooftop experience into consideration.
I would like to try the rooftop in the dead of winter- that would be fun!
Beautiful! Older people... well 25+
Alot of ladies around age 40... lol
.... We went out for valentines day and it was great.
Really pretty but bit expensive... Not too bad for glastonburry.
Drinks are AMAZING! Food was alright...
VERY CROWDED! but had club feel... I liked it! I will be visiting as soon as I get a chance..
I put on a white Express pique polo, DKNY jeans and Aldo suede shoes, gelled up my hair, walked through a heavy mist of Eau De Douche and rolled out to Rooftop 120 with my boys looking to crush some...nice ladies.
In all seriousness, this place was far less "jersey shore" than I was anticipating. Â I had avoided coming here for the longest time because I'm just not that in to the whole club scene. Â Wub Wub Wub music just doesn't do it for me.
It was me and two friends who went here for drinks on a Friday night after dinner. Â We arrived around 7:30 and there was still a pretty steady dinner crowd. Â The setup is symmetrical with the long bar in the center of the roof with access to bar tenders on either side. Â Flanking the bar on both sides, is the open rooftop. Â It was March when we went, unseasonably warm, but still chilly once the sun set. Â The electric heaters in the outdoor areas did a reasonably good job at keeping us warm. Â Around 10 a DJ came on, and the tables in the inside dining area were moved to create space for a dance floor. Â (Can't remember much after that.)
I did not eat when I was here so I can't make any remarks on the food. Â I can say, however, that the drinks, although generously portioned, are bit on the pricey side. Â I think it was around 8 or 9 dollars for a gin and tonic. Â But it's Glastonbury so I'm thinking you're not going to do much better than that anywhere else. Â
This place has a lot potential as both a restaurant, and a night life hot spot. Â I can't wait to try the food. Â I'm sure if it's good I'll be doing my fair share of Al Fresco dining here during the summer.
It was our 2nd wedding anniversary and happened to celebrate the special occasion here. The ambience is superb! The lounge is completely on a roof top with amazing glass walls all over. I will definitely visit again in summer :)
It took a little while to be seated. There is a lounge n as well as a dinning room. We sat in the lounge. Our server was Kalle. Â Enjoyed the pomegranate Champagne to start off. Then we ordered 2 flat breads. One was a housemade special n the other was Margarita. Oh yeah we also ordered the beet salad. The dinner was amazing n very flavor filled.
To end the special occasion meal we ordered the Fried Oreos!!!!!!!!! Yeah you heard me right its Fried Oreos n not fried ice cream. It was just a bliss I can say........
Had dinner here with my wife and daughter this past Saturday night. Â Wasn't sure what to expect, could have been upscale or could have been another noisy semi-outdoor local bar. Â We at in the dining area (separate from the outdoor/glass walled bar area) which was quiet with intimate tables set into nooks along the outside walls, each with a window looking out from the 3rd story. Â The atmosphere was relaxed, upscale, modern, but not austere. Â The outdoor bar area is sure to be more raucous when the evening bar crowds arrive.
We ordered the seafood/raw bar sampler, which was just enough appetizer for 3.  The waitress said it was a small plate menu (similar to tapas). We each had a salad - NOT small plate, these were full serving size, and a Main dish.  25 years ago, the Main serving size would have been considered normal, not small plate; Americans still haven't learned how not to gorge  themselves on every meal.  The food was delicious. I had the fish tacos - which were different than most, being fried tilapia, but done with a nice spicy light breading. My wife had the blue crab stuffed shrimp Main, it was fantastic.  My daughter had the sesame/cracked pepper encrusted seared tuna - done very nicely.  All three were certainly a main course (not tapas size), but weren't mountains of cheese and carb-loaded excess that you can get at many other local restaurants.
The bar in the dining area was small, intimate, and mod - with changing led mood lighting. They could have done without the ubiquitous flat screen showing ESPN at the bar, but I guess that's what we now get in every restaurant bar everywhere in the country. Â
Overall, a bit pricier than other local mid-higher end dinners, but worth it for the setting and quality.
We went here a couple nights ago because I bought the LivingSocial coupon. When looking at the menu before hand, we both thought that the food looked pretty expensive, but since we had the coupon we didn't mind. When we arrived, we chose to sit in the dining area rather than the rooftop because it was quieter. I really liked the atmosphere in the dining room, very pretty and chic. The booths are all nestled into the wall so each table is really private.
We were surprised when we got the menus that the entrees are tapas size, and not regular entree size. For the prices, we thought it wasn't a very good deal. We ordered the Provence flatbread to start with. My BF really liked it, and I would have but the texture was weird (I have texture issues) with the apple, carmelized onion and brie. I ordered the salmon for dinner, and my BF had the bacon burger. I thought the salmon was good, it was about a 6 oz piece with mashed potatoes and spinach. The bacon burger was OK and the fries were nothing special. We weren't overwhelmed with our entrees, especially for the money.
We ordered the mini indulgence for dessert, 4 mini cups of mousse; chocolate, maple, peanut butter and Kahlua/espresso. I ordered it for the peanut butter, and that ended up being my least favorite. It was not good. But I did like the chocolate and the maple.
Overall, we thought we would come back in the summer and sit on the rooftop for drinks and apps, but we wouldn't come back for dinner again.
This place has great potential....However I am figuring there is a non-mastermind behind it all.
A great concept...a rooftop bar and restaurant that features a year-round atmosphere.
There should be more to it, but unfortunately theres not. The menu for the restaurant could be that of any other restaurant in Glastonbury. It is generic, and has nothing to back up the choices. The food is ill-prepared with poor presentation.
The bar looks great, but what comes out from it has much to be desired.
If you stick with beers, you are probably safest, with you wallet as an exception   Â
($4.50 for a Pabst Blue Ribbon Bottle) The wine list includes Cupcake Wine by the glass, and the cocktails are nothing to holler about. The first time I went there, my friend requested a grapefruit vodka and club soda. When the server returned, she brought her a vodka, with grapefruit juice and cranberry juice .... ???? She said "they ran out of grapefruit vodka" and just brought the other cocktail instead of returning to the table and asking for something different.
All around, not good.
There is live music here on the weekends, the Friday night DJ is awesome, if you do stop in to try it out.
I definitely need to try again when it's busier to see what the atmosphere is like but rating on potential alone, rooftop120 should be a go-to place for "other side of the river" dinner and drinks!
We were still able to sit out on the rooftop on a colder October night but plenty of heating lamps (although sweater, jacket still advised)....
Great, large rooftop area that had about 30+ tables and could see the many TV's from the rooftop area. Â Coudl be very cool for Saturday/Sunday football (during the early autumn).
Margartia flatbread was very good and Murray's Chicken Pot Pie (which I am a definite sucker for) was very lean, fresh and not too filling, although certainly did the trick! Â
We were convinced (although didn't take much) to try the fried oreos and certainly will become a staple on their desert menu. Â A little rich for some, but my sweet tooth certainly wasn't complaining. Â
All and all, great experience, potential for great atmosphere but admittedly would like to come back a couple more times during warmer months.
Coolest Bar Around! Great idea by the owners. Went over Labor Day Weekend and it was the best time i've had in CT in a long time! Great Drinks & Open Late. Not to mention $3 Beers.
Haven't had the food yet but i've heard from friends it is delicious. Will be back my next visit into town :o)
The place could have potential to be a rock star... unfortunately run by the worst management ever!!! ...it is such a shame!
The service was the slowest, bartenders unorganized and rude, empty-used glasses all over the counter, not so clean.
We were not happy at all!
By the way, did I mentioned that I have found a piece of broken glass in my drink... go figure.
