I dined here tonight with my husband and my elderly aunt, who did some amateur food critiquing once upon a time. Â My husband and I are very easy to please, but my aunt is notoriously picky. Â Well, she was thrilled with everything! Â The vegetables were seasoned to perfection and served at exactly the right temperature and texture. Â I had the crab cake and it was phenomenal. Â My husband had seared tuna for the first time in his life and loved every bite. Â I also had a beet salad (there was some abundant ordering going on!) which was great. Â Even the bread basket was noteworthy. Â There was a pumpernickel bread with nuts and raisins that was divine. Â Service was prompt and thorough without being overbearing. Â My aunt was so thrilled with the quality that aside from mentioning it over and over, she insisted we choose a dessert as well. Â The decor is a bit dated, but who cares?! Â Service and food quality were A+.
Review Source:We had our wedding reception there 20 years ago and return whenever we can for lunch or dinner. Â Our experience is always wonderful! Â Our meals are always exceptional and the service is outstanding even when it is busy. Â We have never been disappointed and always feel like we got our money's worth and more. Â Yeah, maybe the decor could use a makeover and it has the "old businessmen" atmosphere, but we always savor our meals long after we've gone. Â The menu has something for everyone, and the prices are reasonable for what you get here, which is quality dining!!!!
Review Source:I have been to Rosewood restaurant many times. Every time I go there, I love the place more and more. The food, drinks & service were absolutely second to none. I feel absolutely speechless. This restaurant is absolutely awesome. I don't even like sweets, but their sweets were out of this world. Their wine menu is beyond awesome. It is by far one of Chicago's BEST places to eat.
Review Source:We went in a group of four for a special occasion. Â The decor is fine dining and the food was great! Â The banana crusted tilapia was unusual and very good. Â My wife had the shrimp chopped salad and was pleased with the portion size and great flavor. Â Our companions were also very pleased. Â
The service was fantastic. Â We were seated immediately and water was brought to the table within seconds. Â Then our waiter appeared and went over the menu and drinks.
All in all a wonderful experience!
Rosewood is old and stuffy and the perfect place for the well dressed business man. Â I prefer to eat in the lounge because white table settings don't excite me. Â I've been here probably 3 or 4 times which about 75% of the visits consisted of me getting the pork chops. Â If I'm up by O'Hare this is a go to spot to grab some monster, juicy and delicious pork chops. Â I have no interest to ever order anything else and frankly if I didn't discover these pork chops I would have never returned. Â I'm not into the scene but I'm really into the pork chops....pork chops trump ambiance every time!
Review Source:I have eaten at Rosewood a few times and the service and food quality have always been top-notch. However, what has possessed me to write this outstanding review is the way myself and my boyfriend were treated this evening when we came in to inquire about holding our wedding ceremony and reception there. Peter, the owner, is a class act all the way. What a gracious and friendly man. No hard sell, just honest and forthcoming, accommodating and generous. He went out of his way to make sure that price points would work for us and treated us to a cocktail and some food, and a few extras as well as allowing us to view the ballroom while it was being changed over for a current reception. We will be hard pressed not to choose this venue if we can help it. We were truly impressed by the customer service. I know that if we book here the staff will go out of their way for us. I highly recommend Rosewood for all of your dining needs. They truly impressed us. We will be back for more for sure.
Review Source:Rosewood holds a special place in my heart and I try to celebrate most holidays/life events at Rosewood. Â Everything on the menu is great and the items are favorable and inventive.
Try the veal chop and the bone in filet if you get a chance. If you are there on some Wed. nights, the Dover Sole should not be missed, fresh (never frozen) and full of flavor. Â
For the dessert, stick with the white chocolate mousse cake or the banana cream pie. Â Best desserts in the city.
I had not been to Rosewood In years so i was a little worried on what changed....Teh food was still amazing after all these years and service was great! Â I had salmon with some spinach and it was prefect! Â portions were good and the taste was supurb. Â The sounp I orderd was also yummy and the mini burgers my date had look delish! Â also, nice little bar area we had a few drinks at after. Â I may not wait so long to return!
Review Source:I organized a luncheon here this past weekend and was very pleased with the restaurant. Â Jim and Julie were easy to work with and were readily available by phone and email. Â They were very accommodating with meeting our budget, and I appreciated that they could keep the price all-inclusive of tip and tax. Â I also like that they offer a cash bar option. Â The food was good. Â The standout was the dessert -- a delicious apple pie ice cream. Â The room was a little small, but this was more my fault than theirs as my initial estimate of number of people was lower than what we actually had. Â I really appreciate that they did not charge us for the three no-shows on the day of as well. Â The location is very convenient for most of Chicagoland and parking is easy. Â I would definitely recommend Rosewood for private events.
Review Source:Went here for a Company sponsored lunch. I was very skeptical, usually banquet places do not make good restaurants. I was pleasently suprised, the food was very tasty and service impeccable. Service is very European, in that the waiters are very good. They know what they are doing, and take pride in it. They actually place your plate of food in front of you and not give it to your neighbor and have them pass it to you.Water glasses, drinks etc were being replenished at regular intervals.
I got the Salmon, which was excellent. Came with sauted spinach and mashed potatoes. Lunch Entrees come with soup or salad. I got the salad which was nice and cold, the ranch dressing was tasty as well.
I was too stuffed to get dessert. I will definately be going back.
My favorite choice in the area for business lunches or dinners, we've even held an informal baby shower for a co-worker here. The food is as good as it gets and the staff is efficient and professional. Love the tenderloin steak salad and the dark rye with raisins that comes in the bread basket is the best I've had. Try the seasonal pumpkin creme brulle for dessert. No doubt I will return again and again...
Review Source:This was a wonderful dining experience. Â This building houses a restaurant and banquet facilities along with small private rooms that become part of the restaurant when needed.
The halls and restaurant are, I assume, paneled with a warm (Rose) wood providing an elegant feeling. Â However, this is not an uppity place. Â The owner works the room making sure his guests are served well and enjoying their dining experience.
One person in our party needs a gluten free diet and when she ordered the sole special, the waiter immediately pointed out that sole was the one fish they HAD to dredge through flour to prepare.  So plan  "B"  went into effect, not an issue.  My filet was perfectly cooked to specification and sooooooooooooooo tender, a knife was not really needed to cut it.  Timing for courses was perfect, ALL wait staff were attentive, and I never had to request a refill on my ice water.
A couple of the chefs came out of the kitchen, and as luck would have it, we were able to discuss dessert choices that were gluten free. Â She thought the ice cream would be safe, but the chef said "no" there were cookies in the ice cream. Â Who knew? Â Had he not been there, she might have had an extremely uncomfortable night ahead of her.
I had not been here for years but truly enjoyed my dining experience and 5-star worthy.
This review is not about the food. I was at Rosewood doing a photography job and it is only about the place in general.
Talk about swank, and Rosewood is definitely in the realm of swank. I mean how many banquet halls, granted there is a lounge & restaurant here as well, have a front of house?
To my knowledge not that many and do to my profession I easily end up in a 100 of these places a year.
Rosewood has that old world, old Chicago feel that even gives off a "mob owned" impression -not that I am saying it is. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be to surprise to see Frank Sinatra himself walk into the lounge, stroll up to a piano and start crooning out the hits, or even that of Tony Soprano sitting in the back holding court. Not to mention that some of the clientele have that vibe as well.
But enough of the glorification of the Mob Heritage that Chicago has & will never shake.
As I have said, Rosewood has an old world ambience that speaks from a different time & a different Daily in office (I know the Daily Jr. is not longer Mayor as well at this point, but you get the meaning). Dark wood overlays the entire place, which doesn't help that Rosewood likes to keep their lights as dim as possible in both the restaurant & lounge.
However, the banquet rooms I was in and the ones I have seen are very large and lit to the parties liking.
Also I have to say that the Rosewood staff are very courteous & and very accommodating. They had allowed me to set up my group photo where I thought was the best place, that being in the valet right out front. And had no problem with me essentially taking over part their restaurant for something that wasn't part of the Rosewood or getting any financial gain from me being there. Which doesn't always happen.
While I didn't have a chance to sample the food it did looks & smell very good.
Hopefully next time around that I am at the Rosewood I will be there to eat & sample their wine cellar instead of being there on business.
Great food and WOW - Chilean Sea Bass on the menu! Â That's rare! Â Our food was fantastic and the service was spot on.
The grilled Octopus was one of the best I've had. Â Tender, grilled to perfection and lightly dressed with lemon and olive oil. Â The Chilean Sea Bass was perfect. Â
It is a bit dated, Â that's why it was such a delight (yes, I used the word delight) that the food was so good. Â It's an old school restaurant, you won't be disappointed by the food.
They also seem to run specials - Shafer Cab on sale for $95.00 / great deal.
I really, really don't like this place. Â Its outdated and dark. Â And worst of all, the food is mediocre, AT BEST! Â I had the ahi tuna, and it was so peppery I couldnt taste the tuna. Â It was also very dry. Â I really didn't like it. Â I did have the beet salad which was pretty good, but pedestrian.
Seriously, this is an old people restaurant. Â And the food isn't even good. I will have to go back because my boss likes it, but whenever I can, I am going to avoid.
Came here on a business lunch recently and I enjoyed my experience here. The staff was very friendly, and the owner even came by to chat a bit.
I had the steak tenderloin salad, which was okay - steak was a teeny bit charred for my liking, but it was still fine. I had a bite of the pan-seared scallops which was absolutely amazing. I think I will be eyeing that upon my next visit!
My friend has her beautiful classy wedding reception here back in March 2010. There was a martini bar during the welcome period (pre-dinner drunkeness rocks!) The food was SPECTACULAR. I have never had such moist chicken or tender beef at a place that mass-cooks its food. The bar selection was great, and it just seemed like Rosewood really took care of a lot of the details for my friend. Plus, it was very close to the Hyatt where we were all staying, so it was OK to get drunk and have a good time on the dance floor!
Review Source:The Rosewood was a nice place for my work's Holiday Party, but I'm not sure the old school supper club vibe will bring me back. Â My company had a nice private room and it didn't seem as garish as the main dining room, whose glitzy decorative touches haven't seemed to have been touched since about 1982.
That doesn't stop the Rosemont faithful from coming, the dining room was full of business people having business lunches, talking business! The lunch choices all looked great from the healthy portion of salmon, the steak, and my rosemary chicken was tasty. But two ample breasts was just too much for me! (Never thought I'd say that). Certainly the Rosewood could serve smaller portions at lunch and lower their price point appropriately.
Service was excellent all afternoon, and dessert was about the highlight of the meal. The apple purse was an incredibly inventive take on a baked apple dessert. And my white chocolate mousse cake was (again) enough for three people, and very yummy. From the reviews here it sounds like the owner takes great pride in his business, and I love to hear that. But the Rosewood seems like an old dinosaur that caters to a dying breed of old school diner.
This place was *supposed* to be great- my fiancee brought me here and he used to bring clients here all the time when he worked in the neighborhood... so he pumped it up quite a bit.
not so much - in my humble opinion.
The ambience was a bit off, sort-of like a wannabe Nick's Fishmarket, but not quite there. Let's just say you could almost smell the ben-gay.
We were greeted and seated by a nice man in a suit, and our waitress came immediately to get our drink orders...that ended the good part of the service. The whole restaurant was empty except for like two couples, but for some reason our waitress was nowhere to be found half the time.
The salad was average, but the white wine vinagrette dressing was pretty darn good and pretty much saved it. We were also starving so that may have influenced that opinion. We also ordered shrimp cocktail as well and no complaints with that. For dinner, I ordered the soft-shell crab and was pretty much done after half a bite. It was terrible. I tried to switch plates with my fiancee - but he wasn't interested- Â he ordered some sort of fish dish with mango chutney. It was just ok. I felt like I could have made that at home.
Also - I couldn't believe how expensive this average to bad meal was.
So to summarize: average food + pricey + slow service for no good reason. I probably wouldn't come back unless I was invited to an event or something.
Ok, it is known by many that I am a sucker for an "old person restaurant". I mean, c'mon....most likely creamy soup will be on the menu and you will always walk outta there with the feeling that youth is on your side. What's not to like about THAT?
I've dined at the Rosewood MANY Â times....our holiday parties are held here, most of our committee meetings are held here and I've lunched here often. You know what? It never disappoints. The Rosewood has offered up some solid food each and every time I've been here.
For our work dinners we usually do the appetizer platters. Jimmy hooks our group up with plates of calamari, shrimp cocktail and brushetta. You can't really go wrong with any of these. Steaks are plentiful at our table and in some cases I've never seen such large pieces of meat...oh my!
For lunch....we are a fans of the chopped salad and the crab cake sandwich. The california chicken club sandwich is also another solid choice. My only (slight) criticism is that the fries are those "coated" fries...you know what I'm talking about. Remember when BK "changed" their fries? Now they have this sort of "coating" on them. If you are a french fry connoisseur like me, you know what I'm talking about. ANYHOW, Rosewood's fries are like that. I'm not a huge fan.
Last but not least - desserts. The apple purse. Dear GAWD....that apple purse is delicious. We ALWAYS have this at our holiday parties and every employee who orders it (and there are a lot of us) look forward to it. Â Baked apples are tucked into a golden flaky pastry purse and served with a side of cinnamon ice cream. Y-U-M. For birthday's, Jimmy will bring ya HUGE whompin piece of white chocolate mousse cake with raspberry sauce. I'm not a huge cake person but THIS cake is delightful.
The interior is nice and there is a bar area. The service has always been great and the food is pretty affordable. Definitly one of the better dining options in the Rosemont/DesPlaines area.
The fiance and I checked this place out one evening because we had been considering the Rosewood ballroom for our wedding and the gentleman who helped us so kindly gave us a gift certificate for dinner. Sadly, the gift certificate didn't even cover our tax. Sad, but oh well.
We had the house salad, tomato basil soup, a NY prime strip steak, a filet with blue cheese crust, grilled asparagus, and the au gratin. Everything was delicious, but I'd have to say my favorites were the house salad, asparagus, and au gratin. Don't get me wrong-- the steaks were top quality and done to our liking, but my blue cheese crust wasn't as sizzlingly crusty as I like it to be and my guy's strip steak had a layer of unappetizingly tough fat . . . and, honestly, there are other really great steakhouses in the area. But still, we had a good time, and the service was really outstanding (our waiter was always checking on us, and the maitre d' addressed my fiance as Mister + last name).
Our meal was really pricey, though, and it's definitely an Old Chicago type of place, so I'm not sure if we'd return, but it was a great experience and it's a good option if you're in the area.
This place is AMAZING! The decor is simply magnificent. The colors are soothing and it's just a very comfortable setting. The hostesses are so wonderful. The waiters are polite and their caring. They never forget things and you won't ever have to worry about not having a full beverage in front of you. The people who work there are very observant.
The food is to die for. It's AMAZING! When you go there go on an empty stomach because when you leave there you won't be able to eat anything for days. They give you so much food at such an AMAZING price! We had the Fillet Mignon and there wasn't an ounce of fat in it. It was the best steak I've ever had and the cooked it so well. It came exactly how I wanted it. The sweet potato was also divine! They have this brown sugar butter that was perfect with the sweet potato. It really brought out the flavor in of the sweet potato.
Desserts! Wow! Â What can I say about them besides, if you go to Rosewood make sure you save some space for the dessert their truly AMAZING! The mile high dessert is worth the $12 because you can share it with like four people. Oh and the Apple Purse is for all of us apple, caramel, walnut, and ice cream lovers. IT'S DELICIOUS!
The presentation of the food is simply beautiful. It's more like art when you get it because the presentation of the food is done so well. Everything from the appetizers to the main meal to the desserts are specially prepared with their own sense of style. The chefs truly have a passion for what they do and it shows in their work. Â
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a good formal night with a bunch of friends accompanied by fine dining.
The place is a three for food but, the way its priced, the whole experience was a two fo sho..
Took a customer here the other night not knowing much about the place.. Â Its pretty, though its more of a sophisticated steakhouse, business suite type spot..
Man in suit greets us and is very friendly.. Seats us in a large leather circular booth.. We order a tuna appetizer that was really good.. Served charred on the outside rperfectly rare on the inside with a spicy pineapple chutney, huge amount of piped wasabi that offered nothing past presentation value, and something else.. If I stopped eating after this dish, the place would have been pretty good..
Next up, I ordered rack of baby lamb chops and the person I was dining with ordered a filet.. I ordered my chops medium rare to "blue" I say.. My companion ordered medium well.. I having never dined with this person, was put off by the medium well request.. But hey.. We also ordered a side of spinach and mashed potatoes..
My lamb chops were poorly cooked.. Actually, they were supposed to be crusted with nuts and shit but, I asked for them plain.. No reason to cover up the taste of baby lamb with some chef's "creation" It was a wonderful piece of meat but, the person cooking it had no clue.. It was medium well... However, the filet was medium rare..
At no point during the course of the meal did someone come by to ask us how dinner was.. If everything was ok.. The mashed potatoes were a disgrace.. Served out of an ice cream scoop and plopped on the plate, they were hard.. Â When the waitress did come by at the end of the meal, I showed her my half eaten lamb and said this was not cooked correctly.. The other filet was eaten around the edges because it was uncooked in the middle.. Mind you these were like 30 or 36 dollar plates of meat.. She took the plate and gave no response..
I orderd a cafe au laite after dinner and it was a disgrace.. The foamed milk was bubbly and when the bubbles subsided there was scum lef on the side of the glass.. I dont know how the frothed the milk but it was like water.. Reminded me of the crap thats left on the side of a glass if you were to blow air into your straw in a coke float.. A really bad way to end..
Dinner for two was like 180 bucks.. Place was expensive and loud.. A stereotypical old boys business restaurant with poor execution.. In the area you have Gibsons, Mortons, Nick's Fish Market and a couple of other steakhouses.. I would happily go to any of those before going back here.
This place specializes in banquets and hosting dinner meetings. Â Which is another way to say, they specialize in mediocre food at inflated prices. Â Which is disappointing, because the menu is promising. Â Lamb t-bones? Â Let's do it! Â Okay, when I say I want my lamb t-bones cooked medium, the last thing I expect is for you to basically deliver a live sheep to my plate. Â I kept looking around for Mary, because I was where she was sure to follow.
Bottom line: if someone else sets up a meeting in one of their rooms, be aware it could be much worse. Â But there's no reason to come here otherwise.
I was pretty disappointed by my meal here. Â I came for a company dinner and ordered the steak well-done. Â (Yes, I like my steak well-done. Â What can i say? Â ^_^) Â "Can I butterfly it?" the waiter asked. Â "Sure," I replied. Â The steak arrives, I cut into it, and blood gushes out. Â It was pretty rare, maybe medium rare, to be precise. Â I wound up sending the steak back, something I really hate doing, only to receive a piece of meat that was completely charred on the outside and still (amazingly) pink on the inside. Â Sigh. Â Surrender.
I stopped by McDonald's on my way back to the hotel.
We went there on a Saturday evening. Â The Rosewood was recommended by the concierge at the Hyatt. Â The maitre d was very friendly and joked that he would seat me and my daughters: Â do I look that old buddy! Â No offense was taken since he reminded me of my uncle Emil who was a character too.
The restaurant style is an interesting fusion of art deco glass features and dark hardwood walls. Â It works.
We were road weary and not really dressed up for the place. Â No one seemed to notice or take offense.
We all had the chicken wild rice soup. Â It was divine!
They serve some interesting breads including one I liked: Â rye with white raisins: Â very good.
Our server was friendly but not overly so. Â She was very helpful.
We each had a different entree and sampled each others. Â I had the horseradish crusted ahi tuna. Â I would give it 4/5 stars. Â I had a side of grilled asparagus: Â excellent.
My wife had a Walleye special. Â It included calamari! Â I like it a lot: 5/5 stars.
The other person in our party had a grouper. Â It may have included crab meat and scallops: Â excellent also.
The cappucino was very good; the Creme Brulee was excellent.
The maitre d's wear suits and the wait staff have uniforms with a formal look. Â Overall a bit pretentious.
The food was well presented but not superbly so. Â Given the prices I'd give it 4.5 stars.
I've come here only for business lunches as well. Â It's just a nice relaxing atmosphere. Â It's a very grown up place, and perfect for conversations. Â They serve excellent food here. Â Menu prices are decent for a restaurant of this caliber. Â Everything I have eaten here is delicious - the tuna, the scallops, and the steak salad. Â The cappuccinos and coffee, too. Â Everyone that goes here likes it a lot, and has never had anything bad to say about it. Â The service is right on the mark. Â Coming here always feels like a treat!
Review Source:I attended a wedding reception here a few years ago, and the serviceable meal of chicken and cake was about as memorable as that dished out at any other wedding banquet hall. After eating here, you might just want to dash off to the pizza place next door. Now who the hell got married here again?
