Review for bar only: Â came here on vacation, solid scotch selection according to my friend who knows the stuff, I certainly enjoyed it. Â Heavy pours for the price, others say the drinks are overpriced but that wasn't our experience. Â Huge martini list, and they are done right. Â If you want great drinks in Eldorado/Silver Legacy / Circus go here instead of the crappy generic bars for sure. Â Waitress was super competent but a bit of a downer, however, at least at first, probably deals with way too many d-bags ;)
Review Source:A great place for drinks! The food is top price for average quality though. I'd definitely return for happy hour and indulge in a cocktail or two but move along to somewhere else for dinner.
On a side note: really liked the 'bread' girl. Instead of putting a basket of generic bread on your table, a girl with a basket of fresh bread walked around the restaurant and handed it out. Definitely a signature touch. (The bacon bread itself was so-so unless with was hot from the oven)
My husband & I were pleasantly surprised, we had to wait a couple minutes to be seated, so thought that might be a bad sign. Â We chose Roxy's because it had a vegan meal for me, it's true vegans do love some carnivores. Â My husband had the crab cake appetizer which was fresh crab and mostly crab not cake! Â He loved it! I had salad with balsamic reduction which was totally delicious! Â My husband had the halibut, he loved it. The chef made tofu for me with truffle oil & mushrooms. I really am not a fan of mushrooms but it was so good I had to ask what kind of mushrooms they were so I can try them at home myself! Â The waiter Julio had a big party in the other room and forgot my wine when we mentioned it to the busboy he had the manager come over and he bought my glass of wine and apologized, then Julio came by and apologized. No reduction in score due to their great manners and they totally made it good. Perfection at Roxy's! Â We plan on bringing our family here next trip! Look forward to it!
Review Source:This place was amazing. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection. I ordered my filet rare and it came out perfect. My husband and I shared the mushroom raviolis to start and they were to die for. WOW! The manager came by to open our bottle of champagne and chatted us up for a bit. He was so friendly and lovely. This is my new favorite date place.
Review Source:Been there twice so far and both times for drinks only.
Trip 1: A Tuesday evening at the tail end of Happy Hour. I tried a Manhattan and then a Kentucky Martini. Both drinks were well made and well presented. The service was quick and friendly. The music was a straight up sax and keyboards 50's/60's lounge duo. They took requests, worked the crowd and seemed to have a song for everyone there.
Trip 2: Last night (Sunday) at last call. The duo had packed up for the evening and the staff was about to do the same. It looked as if the place had been overrun by hoards of barely legal college kids. As it turned out I was kinda right. The hotel was hosting a regional volleyball tournament and apparently volleyball players make sloppy drunks. The cocktail menu had colorful stains on every page, the bar was sticky with spilled drinks and the bartender was limping. Yet despite all this she made a more than valiant effort to be cheerful and helpful and it's for that reason Roxy's will continue to get my martini business.
Our friends chose this place for my husband's birthday, and I was pleasantly surprised. Â I'm actually surprised we hadn't tried it before, since we love the El Dorado. Â The service was impeccable. Â The atmosphere was intimate and cozy. Â They had a nice wine list, but our friends recommended the Ferraro wine, which was decent. Â My husband and I had the lobster escargot and crab cake appetizer, very nice way to start out a meal! Â The crab cake was definitely more crab than cake, always a pleasing experience for me. Â We shared the pumpkin gnocchi bisque, divine, just wish there were more than 4 small gnocchi, as it was perfection! Â My friend and I both ordered prime rib, medium, and it came out rare in the center (actually, I think a skilled vet could have saved it). Â We conferred about sending it back, since neither of us are that "high maintenance" but our SO's convinced us that we should have it the way we wanted it. Â Our server took it back, no questions, and returned with a nicely cooked piece of meat. Â I was a happy camper. Â
He then brought out a lovely ice cream parfait dessert, complete with chorus for my husband's birthday. Â Our friends also had dessert, which they loved. Â I opted for the El Dorado coffee, generously spiked. Â All around superb experience.
Roxy has impressive food and a nice vertical tasting of ports. Â However, this review is for the bar and lounge which is not separated on Yelp and should be. Â The lounge area has live music, a pianist, a jazz singer, very nice, like an old fashioned cabaret. Â Has a nice classy sophisticated feel without being pretentious. Â I wish it was more closed off to the ugly smelly loud cheesy fountain. Â The bar is nice. Â These guys did infused vodkas way back when and cocktails before they were hipster cool. Â In fact, they have the largest martini menu in Reno. Â There are some nice cocktails hidden in there. Â What's the difference between an old fashioned with ice in a bourbon glass and an old fashioned with no ice in a martini glass? Â Um, that. Â Technically a martini is gin and vermouth but Roxy uses the term liberally, basically any cocktail you can think of in a martini glass. Â Yes, they have an old fashioned in a martini glass called Kentucky martini. Â Without the ice cube, it seems they REALLY load up the bourbon, geez louise. Â Maybe they should create a Sun Valley martini - Four LOCO and vermouth. Â It's one of the best "cocktail" bars in Reno if you like your cocktails in a martini glass. Â Sometimes hard to get a seat and not exactly a meat market, but sometimes a cougar hangout.
Review Source:Lisa and I came here a little while ago on an overnight trip. We decided for a nice dinner out while we were staying at the Silver Legacy.
To start off, our drinks were great and timely. We were enjoying them when what to our weary eyes did appear - a bread lady! She was walking around with a picnic-type basket of freshly baked bread. We decided on the cheesy bacon bread and it was delicious. My steak was pitch perfect, and dessert was delightful as well. (Sorry my memory of what Lisa ordered is a little fuzzy...).
I'd return here in a heartbeat.
Stayed at the hotel next door for one night and as usual I yelped to see where I could get some dinner at. Â This place had really good reviews so I decided to check it out.
For apps, we ordered the escargot, mushroom ravioli, and butternut squash soup. Â The soup was okay.... Â wouldn't order it again. Â The escargot and mushroom ravioli was amaaaazing. Â The escargot had a nice balance of butter and garlic. Â A lot of times restaurants use too much of either.... Â The escargot were juicy and plump and not shriveled like I've had at other places. Â The mushroom ravioli was good too. Â The sauce was not overly creamy and the mushroom flavor was very distinct. Â There is a bread lady that walks around and gives out bacon bread and another bread. Â The bacon bread is sooo good. Â I think I ate three pieces. Â Not because I was starving, but because it was just so smoky and cheesy and addicting. Â And the middle was soft. Â Like pillowy soft. Â The other bread she was handing out was soft, but for me, very forgettable.
Dinner was filet mignon for me, rare, and lamb for my friend. Â Both the filet and the lamb were outstanding. Â The only complaint I had about the filet was that the sauce that accompanied it was a little strong on the veggies. Â It was fine when eating a bite of steak with veggies in the same mouthful, but when eating the tops of the broccolini the sauce really clung to it and was overpowering. Â The potato puree that came with the filet was okay, but was missing that "it" factor.
Dessert was the chocolate souffle and that was the best bleeping chocolate dessert I've ever eaten. Â They pour the milk into the souffle at the table and the top is crisp and light while the bottom has all the milky chocolately dense goodness. Â I would literally fly up to reno again for this dessert alone.
Even though it's fine dining, I noticed there were some people dressed casually because the restaurant is in the casino. Â There was seriously a girl dressed in velour sweats sitting at a table across from a group with suits, fancy dresses, and diamonds. Â That being said, I'm sure attire is not an issue.
I love Martinis. Over the course of years I must have had all martinis that Roxy puts on the menu. Always perfect. Not too cold, not too warm. Not watered down. There is live music. And adorable older couples dancing. The happy hour is a steal. Sure there are few minuses, like cigarette smoke (seriously ban that shit already), the waitresses are tiny bit sluggish, and they might have done away with the salty almonds (or maybe I just missed them?). Either way, still four stars because the martinis are great!
Review Source:The Roxy inside of the Eldarodo Casino has always been an incredible dining experience for myself and my family. Â Last night the proverbial ball was dropped and it bounced off the rubbery potato gratin and landed on my "rib eye" that was actually a New York Strip (I worked at a meat counter, I can tell.) Â
Food:
First, I hope the chef reads this. Â I have met him and he is incredible and I think he must have had the night off. Â The "baconization of America" is tried and true at Roxy. Â It is in the bread and even on the roast chicken, which would have been fine if A, it was on the menu and B, my sister ate pork. Â My brother's meal was made up of sides because of the lack of vegetarian items, and his gratin was inedible. Â Rubbery, dry, and over all vile. Â I ordered the 1lb Rib Eye and they brought me a NY twice. Â The second time I kept it and ate it, but come on the rib steak comes from a very different part of the cow people. Â
BUT, the sides were great. Â The mac and cheese creamy and delicious, the mashed yukon potatoes were amazing and the sauteed mushrooms perfect. Â The salads were nice as well.
Service:
During our 30 min wait between appetizers and entrees the Asst, Manager helped us pick out some wine then completely forgot. Â He did comp the bottle and apologized, so that was good. Â trying to get a second piece of bacon-free bread was far more work than it should be, and being seated by the pass through window at the sushi bar and watching deep fried rolls sit and wait as long as we were for our food pretty much disgusted all of us.
Bottom line, Roxy wasn't up to snuff last night. Â For the price I expect great service and amazing food, and I won't settle for less.
Roxy offers fine dining at it's best. I've been there twice now with equally stellar food and service. First off, the bacon cheese bread is absolutely worth all the rave reviews. Bacon+cheese+light and buttery bread= how could you go wrong? Although they will gladly bring you as much bread as you like, don't fill up too much, because you'll want to save room for the rest... and also save some room for a souffle for dessert. We've twice ordered the traditional escargot for an appetizer, because it was so good the first time. I've ordered the filet minon twice because it too bears repeating. The filet had a perfectly seared outside giving way to melt-in-your-mouth, tender perfection inside. The side of crisp, seasoned french beans and savory mashed potatoes were the perfect compliment to this staple dish. We've also had the ahi steak and roasted chicken. Both were very good and well executed, but the filet minon will remain my go-to dish. When I have a craving for steak, this is where I will go. The dessert souffles are amazing, but as your server may tell you, there are a limited number of them available per night and they also take a bit to prepare, so you'll have to commit to one when your order your entree. We've had the key lime and berry as well as the pink lady apple. Both were delicious and light, not too sweet, and big enough to share between two people.
The service was top notch. Everything arrived in perfect timing. Our servers were warm and courteous, and yet didn't intrude into our romantic dinner. Water glasses were always refilled, crumbs discretely swept, and hot moist scented towels brought to the table at the end. Fantastic.
We were delighted both times to have had a wonderful dining experience: a shared appetizer, wine, entrees, shared dessert, after dinner lattes, all for just slightly over $100. For two people, we consider it a great value. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic night out for two.
Perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Â Although the evening got off to a slow start, things soon improved. Â First, it took a while for the host to appear and for us to be seated. Â (We did not have reservations and certainly didn't need them as there were several empty tables on a Monday evening.) Â
We were led through a couple of rooms and seated at a table for two right next to a party of 13 . Â Oh no! Â Then I noticed they were finishing dessert and coffee so the "problem" of a loud table soon disappeared.
Our meal started with the "bread girl" whose only job appeared to be handing out the bread options from a rustic-looking basket. Â Bread was tasty, but no "seconds" were offered. Â
DH opted for a tomato bisque which he really enjoyed. Â I had the house salad which, while tasty, was mostly field greens. Â I would have liked more of the advertised cheese, walnuts, and strawberries.
DH had the salmon and I had pork "prime rib." Â DH enjoyed his entree, perhaps a bit more than I enjoyed mine. Â The pork was very tender and a large serving -- more than I could eat. Â The mashed potatoes were a tasty accompaniment. However, the beans were too al dente for my taste and had an odd smokey taste.
My flight of three sparkling wines was an excellent choice; DH had trouble deciding which of the three reds in his flight was best. Wish more restaurants offered flights. Â An enjoyable way to try new wines.
We ended the meal by sharing a featured dessert: marinated cherries and a rich chocolate mousse in a filo shell. Â The chocolate was very, very rich and more like pudding. Â Very rare when I have trouble finishing a chocolate dessert, but this one was too sweet for me. The sugared almonds which were on the menu were no where to be found.
Daniel provided good service. Â Very knowledgeable. Â Not too intrusive. Â
Romantic atmosphere.
Very close to five stars -- maybe next time.
Three Stars is a compromise.
The bar is a 5 star. Go to happy hour at this place and enjoy. The martini's are the best and happy hour only $5.
No beyond being a great Martini bar I have to say the best thing is the Bacon Bread.
I've been several times for drinks and appetizers and found it top notch.
We went one time for dinner and won't go back. Not many people in the place as we went early. Maybe one other table. We waited for everything. With that I would have waited for a second trip for a review because sometimes it is just a timing issue.
But the food was not good at all. I won't be eating at the restaurant again so my review has to be a compromise.
Get your drinks and bacon bread here then dine elsewhere.
One of my friends told me to go to Roxy for dinner. Â I objected because I hadn't had very good experiences in the past, but she told me they have changed around some of the management and amping up their menu to turn things around. Â My wife and I gave it another shot, and WOW what a difference. Â The service was great. Â When we go back we will definitely ask for Dane to be our server. Â It didn't seem like they had a hostess, but we were seated promply by one of the 2 managers, Josh. Â He was fun but also very professional. Â They have a great wine list, but my wife and I couldn't agree on a wine, so we explained what each of us liked and Josh selected the perfect wine to satisfy both of us.
The food was also great. We had the heirloom tomato salad and the wedge salad. Â Then my wife and I ordered the ribeye. Â They were both cooked perfectly, and the demi that goes with it is amazing. Â We finished dinner off with a keylime souffle, which blew us away. Â
The experience really turned our opinion of Roxy Restaurant around. Â Whatever the Eldorado is doing, whether it be the new manager or a new chef or something, they need to keep it up. Â I definitley recommend it. Â We'll be back and we'll bring firends.
This review is a quickie since I didn't go to Roxy for the food. Â Like other reviews, I'd say go to Roxy for their Happy Hour because you have over 100 Martinis to pick from and they're all $5 each!! Â It doesn't get any better than that! Â I had the pleasure of trying two of them before going to my company banquet.

Melon Martin - Midori, Stoli, and Sweet & Sour

As you can see, I had a midori thing going on with my martinis. Â While they were both delicious, my favorite between the two was the Jade Monkey. Â I probably would've tried one more that night, but I had to leave and the Happy Hour had ended. Â I thought I did pretty good with two martinis for $10. Â What a deal!!
I'll most likely come back here again not just for their Happy Hour, but for their food as well as their menu does sound good. Â For now, 5 big stars for their Happy Hour!!
I decided to start off with the "Golden Girl" wine flight. 3 chardonnays that were all very good.
First course was their house salad. I'm not a fan of the spring mix, but their orange vinegarette and balsamic drizzle was so good that I ended up eating the entire thing! I loved how the bitterness of the leaves were covered up with the dressing..now if only other places could figure that out....
As my main course, I chose the "prime rib" pork with Yukon mashed potatoes and wax green beans. Everything was cooked perfectly and flavored so well. Â I am a fan!
We decided to have lunch here tomorrow before our long drive back, but unfortunately they're only open for dinner. Boo! Oh well, this place gives me a reason to come back to Reno....:)
I generally do not frequent the casino restaurants as there are so many other options for great eating downtown. Roxy may become an exception to my rule.
My husband and I recently had dinner there on a weeknight and the food and service were very good.
We ended up getting the "early bird special" even though it was past the cutoff time. The meal was excellent and was a good value for the quality.
The only negative was where we were seated, it was a bit noisy. We were seated in the outside area and just down a level from the bar. It is trying to have the feel of an alfresco cafe, but I think misses the mark just a bit. I think when we return, we may request a seat "inside".
I would like to try the sushi bar. It has been recommended by reliable sources (thanks Kara).
Review of the Happy Hour only...
How can you not like unlimited $5.00 martinis? Â 100 + "martinis" (loosely defined, seriously Makers and orange?), salted almonds on all the tabletops, cool servers with little mini-shakers at every table, and a certified "dude-bro" free environment (seriously, check the sign at the door).
All in all a top notch bar/restaurant experience and on my every-time list for Reno.
Came here again for a dinner date on Friday, March 16th. We had a really great time and loved our food.
We made a reservation about 20 minutes before we arrived and were seated right away.
Tip: if you come before 6:30pm you can order the $5.00 Happy Hour martinis that they serve in the lounge. You can order them directly from your waiter and he'll shake and pour them for you. Much nicer than having to balance the glasses between the bar and the table, which we had to do when we ate a the sushi restaurant. I had a hard time deciding amongst their 200+ martinis, and the waiter offered that if I ordered something I didn't like, I could get something else! Love that!
What we had:
Bread:
Prefer the sourdough bread over the cheddar biscuits, which were kind of dry.
Appetizers:
Oysters (delicious and from the Pacific Northwest, which are our favorite)
"Famous" Mushroom Ravioli (they were pretty good, not as great as I had expected)
Main course:
Lamb (loved, loved, loved. Â Did I mention, loved?)
Roasted chicken (very good. huge serving and had leftovers. wished they were served with more veggies because they were especially delicious)
Dessert:
Specialty fruit souffle (normally I prefer the chocolate souffle, but I'm so glad we tried something different and got this. It was unbelievably good and I'd order it again).
We were there from 5:30pm-8pm. The service was great. The restaurant was quiet and romantic. The only downside was that about 15 minutes before we were done a large party came in celebrating St. Patrick's Day. They were extremely loud, obnoxious, and we could no longer hear each other speak. If we weren't almost done eating I would have been furious.
Over 100 flavors of martinis for any taste and a fun, old fashioned piano bar. Â The great location inside the El Dorado Casio allows you to walk other fun venues inside the 'tri-casio' corridor. Â
Only downside that I have experienced is when it's busy (and even when it's not) there are not nearly enough cocktail waitresses and bartenders and service can be slightly slow to painfully slow.
Otherwise, a great place to go for a sophisticated, romantic cocktail for 2, or a rowdy 'girls night' out! Â Woohoo!
I finally was able to try Roxy's restaurant this week, after reviewing the bar previously. Said bar is still a great place to get a Happy Hour cocktail... Our server in the bar, Jalene, was phenomenal, especially considering she was the only waitress working, and it was packed. She's super friendly, very good at her job, and she regularly checked in on us...Kudos!
Now for the restaurant review- The decor and atmosphere are great... Though our server was a bit stiff and all-business, he was fairly efficient. The mushroom raviolis are very good, as many Yelpers have said, and the salads were also good. For entrees, we ordered the New York strip which was not too bad and cooked about right, and the bone-in Cowboy Ribeye. Unfortunately, the ribeye came out waaaay overdone, likely because it was incredibly thin. (Somebody in the kitchen was asleep at the wheel when they let that poor piece of steak get out...)
To their credit, management did check in on us to make sure we liked the steaks, so I ended up sending the ribeye back for another, which took awhile, so my brother was already finished eating when I got the chef's second attempt. It was a thicker cut, yes, but still not cooked medium rare, more medium really, and was okay, but certainly not worth the price.
Also to their credit, our wine corkage fee was waived due to the mis-"steak". (The Roxy wine list is very good, by the way, but we had brought our own)
Roxy could be so much better with more attention paid to the food, and for the money they charge, it really should be better.
Expensive but DELICIOUS!!
Very quiet and romantic atmosphere, could have been because we had dinner kind of late so the place was pretty empty, but we got an entire room to ourselves. It was very nice and the room was gorgeous; it felt like an old underground wine cellar.
The service was wonderful. Our waiter was attentive - as well as other servers who all kept refilling our water glasses - and knowledgeable about the daily specials.
We ordered:
- Filet Mignon (8oz.- medium rare): Perfectly seasoned and cooked. It cut like butter and just melted in my mouth =] no steak sauce necessary!
- C.A.B. Herb Crusted Prime Rib (10oz - medium): Delicious crust and cooked perfectly. Went very well with the sauteed mushrooms, but could have came with a side or creamy horseradish in my opinion.
- Dessert - Chocolate Chunk Soufflé with Grand Marnier Chocolate Sauce: Super rich and decadent. This is a wonderful dessert to share, if your able to eat it by yourself you may just go into a food-i-coma. I highly recommend trying this dessert out, it was my first time eating a souffle and I simply loved it! Just keep in mind that you need to order this when you order your meal, it takes like 35 minutes to cook I believe.
Overall, our meal and experience was FABULOUS! The only down side of the night was that they were out of the lobster bisque and slow roasted duck (I was debating between the duck and the filet mignon), but it made deciding what to order much easier for me.
Very nice casino restaurant. Â Pretty expensive, but not a surprise. Â
The mushroom ravioli appetizer was creamy and a delight. Â My roast duck was pretty big, and not bad. Â The polenta fries were a bit of a disappointment. Â Service was pretty good, but they didn't have an thousand island dressing for the iceberg wedge. Â What? Â A restaurant that doesn't serve thousand island dressing? Â Is that supposed to make the place high end?
I decided to finally go here since I had comps and had heard many glowing reviews of the mushroom ravioli for which the pyramid downstairs always gives you coupons.
I was not disappointed at all.
Dane gave great service as my primary server (though the team including the bread lady and the host were also excellent, very classy and professional). Â
I had the best sourdough bread I've had in my life (no small feat). Â It was simply extraordinary and was the highlight of a really great meal.
I got the mushroom ravioli appetizer along with the server's recommendation of pork tenderloin. Â I also got a chardonnay wine flight for $14 that was quite nice. Â Everything was complex, fresh ingredients, tasty and delicious. Â The pork was a little bit sweet which worked perfectly for it and the mushroom ravioli walked that fine line of oily and dry that you have to walk to create perfect ravioli.
I honestly couldn't have been more pleased.
I was unable to tip (waiting to get paid), but told the server I would tip him later and he was super cool about that.
I did catch him two days later (after getting paid) and gave him a nice time for which he was appreciative.
Easily one of my best dining experiences in Reno due to nice ambience, excellent food and superior service.
I couldn't recommend it more highly.
And you might see me there trying to get more of that delicious sourdough.
Okay, so there are two different aspects to this review. One is for just the bar/lounge area, where you can sit and enjoy drinks while listening to live music.. The other is for the sit-down restaurant, which extends quite a ways back past the bar and lounge area.
First, the bar:
Roxy's has the best martini selection in Reno, and I'm not exaggerating on that one. The menu is very extensive, and they have a martini for every taste and preference. Strong, sweet, light, hard, they have it all, and every one of them is fantastic. They also have a two-hour happy hour in the afternoon, which drops the prices down from about 9$ to $5. Completely worth it, if you can make the time frame, which I believe is around 3 o'clock.
The service in the bar area is very good. Even when you have a table, the waitresses are pretty attentive, and since it's a small space, it's easy to get their attention for something. The live music and ambiance they have is great for small groups or two people who want to just relax in a classy atmosphere. Completely takes you away from the casino scene. Really great lounge.
Now, the restaurant:
The service here is somewhat spotty. The waiters are very nice, never had rude service, but they aren't always attentive when you need them, not are they always particularly helpful. Not enough to be a huge detractor, but not always reliable enough to be fantastic service.
The food, though, is wonderful, when you have extra cash to drop for it. It is very expensive, and of course the portions are small, but they have a great variety of dishes and specials, with some excellent desserts and wines as well.
Seating is usually in the very back, well past the bar, so you feel completely secluded from the rest of the casino, which is a very private, cozy, and quiet feel. Very refreshing for a restaurant in the midst of a loud, raucous place like the Silver Legacy. You can, however, get seating outside in the main walk area, in front of the merman fountain, which is nice if you want a less quiet and more casual feel for dining.
Overall, I have to say the main reason this place stands out in my mind are the drinks. For any martini-lovers out there, this is your heaven. Check yourself in for the evening, and soak up the awesomeness of fantastic drinks.
Stumbled in after a night of drinking all over Reno, and when I say stumbled, I mean fell outside the door, noticed it was a bar, and went inside. Had the Martini of the Month, a Blueberry Cobbler. Tasted like they just gave me a shot of Stoli Blue and 7-up, although by then my palette was pretty decimated.
Service was awesome and priced normal for the Eldorado's upscale lounge facility. Went by there the next afternoon and they had a live pianist going.
Didn't try the food but I remember the smell of it making me hungry and I think that still qualifies as a good thing right?
November 20, 2009 @ 5pm
We're in Reno--Land of Cheap Buffets--but BFand I wanted to share a quiet and non-mass produced meal. Roxy's provided us with a classy and romantic evening.
AMBIANCE: Roxy's is an oasis in the land of kitsch and cheap food. The dining room is removed from the noise of the the casino that you can truly enjoy an intimate dinner. Roxy's is a tasteful and sophisticated restaurant inside El Dorado Hotel. I didn't want to ruin the classy ambiance that I turned off the flash of the camera and couldn't really take pictures. We had dinner in the main dining room but there's also a patio dining which is livelier. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
DECOR: The restaurant is dim and heavy with dark wood and impressive iron chandelier. Along the walls are temperature-controlled wine cabinets. It tastefully follows the Medieval decor. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
SERVICE: Service was a notch above your typical restaurant. Professional and knowledgeable server attended to us the whole evening. The wait staff never let our water go down 3/4 of our glass. A woman with the warm bread basket was making her rounds to serve us warm bread with butter. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
SOCIAL SCENE: Well-dressed mature and older crowd. Young people in gowns and tux (Wedding party, maybe?)
OUR DRINKS:
BF: Pink Diamond Martini ($5 Happy Hour price)
Me: Flight of 3oz each Chandon, Cuvee and Domaine Laurent ($10)
COMPLIMENTARY: WARM CHEESE BACON BREAD that we could have made a meal out of! Â Freshly-baked, loaded with cheese and bacon and so good! Even my BF who dislikes bacon so much loved it!
APPETIZERS:
BF: LOBSTER ESCARGOT( $14): Firm, meaty Australin lobster and soaked in butter! Really good. We could have eaten 2 more orders! http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
Me: Â FOIE GRAS ($13): Really tender and buttery cmplimented by the earthy flavors of the chestnut. The portion was too rich and too much for me that I tricked BF into eating a whole chunk!
MAIN:
BF: 20 oz PRIME PORTERHOUSE STEAK ($35): BF enjoyed his juicy and tender steak! http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
Me: SEARED AHI TUNA ($21) : Very fresh and generous slices of thick tuna served with delicious sauteed mitaki mushrooms, kale and miso butter. http://www.yelp.com/biz_…
SIDES: Â SAUTEED MUSHROOM: BF wanted a side of veggie. The server quickly suggested this dish which is not on the menu and delivered us a generous portion of sauteed juicy mitaki mushrooms and only charged us $2.95!
DESSERT ($6 each):
BF: Â HOT CHOCOLATE CUP: Hot chocolate cake, vanilla bean ice cream and chantilly cream.
Me: Â APPLE SORBET: Â A simple dish but refreshing dessert with big chunks of apple. Not my first choice but the only non-dairy dessert on the menu.
TAB: $150.00 including tax and 20% tip. For the amount and quality of food we had, I think this was a bargain!
OVERALL: (5 Stars)
Dinner was terrific! The reviews were mixed but there was nothing I could find to complain about! Â All our dishes were well-presented and well-crafted. Â Very attentive service. Great value and generous portions.
Our dinner at Roxy's was so pleasurable that I don't mind the 3 1/2 hour drive from North Oakland to just to have dinner again. Not at all the tacky and gawdy picture that comes to mind when "Reno" is mentioned.
MARTINI BAR: Roxy's is well-known for its vast martini selection. We didn't sit at the bar that's quite large and separate from the main dining area. It follows the same classy ambiance of the restaurant. The live jazz and vocalist were so inviting that next time I'll make a point to sit at the bar first before eating in the main dining room.
Just plain loved it!
Sitting at the bar, the boyfriend, his friend and I all decided to order martinis. Obviously...it's a martini bar. He told me about the Dean Martin Martini, where they give you a nice and smooth Ketel One, dry martini along with a Lucky Strike cigarette (win!). Turns out, they don't serve the cigarette anymore (fail), but they DO allow you to smoke. And guess who had a pack of smokes! Don't judge me, assholes.
By the end of our time there, I was swaying back and forth, yelling at his friend about misogyny and how NOT well an anarchist "government" would work in this country. Then as the Boy was carrying me away from the bar, I started telling him and his friend how much I loved them. I wish I could have tried their bar food (it looked awesome), but perhaps some other time.
5 stars for the martinis, 5 stars for the bartenders, 5 stars for Tony Bennett and 5 stars for serving me the liquid courage I needed to telling the Boy how awesome he is. Thankfully, I kept it classy enough to not grab the microphone out of the singer's hand and do my own rendition of "Have yourself a merry little Christmas".
Ribeye steak! *Drools! I absolutely have to have a nice prime, bone-in ribeye once in a while to stay sane! We made a reservation for 3 people at 7 PM today. They sat us promptly when we arrived. The service was excellent! They even had a nice young lady walking around making sure that we had enough bread.
We started off with their hamachi appetizer and fried calamari. The hamachi was served raw which is always a good thing! The calamari was fried up and had served with an aioli. The calamari was not your typical fried calamari dish as it was served with mint and pickled bell peppers which made the dish kind of fun! I ordered the Peppered Ribeye, bone in of course! It came with a bed of rosemary/thyme potatoes and sauteed spinach.
I wouldn't say it was the best steak I've had in the world, but it was good!
For bar area only: chill but entertaining with martinis galore. 3.75 stars
Cost to worth it ratio: 3 (martinis are $9 but normal drinks are $5)
Highlights:
- Vodka list: yeah they have a 100 something martini list and those are good for about a drink, but after that I prefer my vodka sodas. Liked the extensive listing and a good amount of flavors a la Three Olives and Hanger instead of boring absolut. Tried the mango and it was oh so good.
- Seating: small tables up front, few couches, and a bar with a decent amount of seating down back
- Entertainment value: piano player and singer. Bit cruise shippy but pleasant to listen to nonetheless. It wasn't too loud so the hub and I could have nice post-dinner date conversation.
- Atmosphere: pretty well filled on a Friday night but not crowded to make it fun yet relaxing. Â
- Snack menu: had some interesting items like duck carnitas. We just ate so snacked on the seasoned almonds at the bar. ;-).
Lowlights:
- Missing vodkas: van gogh has the best flavored ones yet they didn't carry any. Also Effen black cherry was listed on the menu, but they don't carry it anymore. A fave with diet coke.
Nice hotel bar spot to hang out in. If I'm ever staying at hotels around here again, I'd go back.
Went here last night for New Year's Eve with my girlfriend and another couple. I ordered the crispy calamari for an appetizer and the New York steak as an entree. My girlfriend ordered the mushroom ravioli to start, and the big eye tuna (ahi tuna) as her main dish. Al tough the calamari portion was quite generous, it was not crispy like the dish was named, and the texture was rubbery. I left about half on my plate. I heard that Roxy's is known for their mushroom ravioli and it was indeed excellent. Â
After being served our appetizers, the service came to an apparent halt. Â We waited at least 30 minutes for our entrees to come after we finished our appetizers. Â Furthermore, our waiter who said he would return for our wine order never appeared. Â We had to ask for more bread four times before any was actually brought to our table before the main dishes arrived. Â When they were served, one of the orders was wrong. Â Also, one of our friends who ordered the New Year's Eve special dinners with wine pairings was never served wine with her food!! Â When the the maitre di eventually made his way to our table to ask how we were enjoying our meal, we complained about the lace of service we had experienced. Â He apologized and tried to make things right by comp'ing us a bottle of good wine, and not charging for the wine that was supposed to come with the wine pairing menu.
For desert, we all ordered chocolate souffles. Â They were not on the menu, but we had them special ordered. Â The souffles were wonderful and helped us to forget the poor service, which was probably due to the large holiday crowd.
I'm giving 4-stars based on the quality of the food, and am not holding the service against Roxy's in my rating because the maitre di did his best to rectify the situation. Â I'm sure that on a regular night the service is better.
The bar is nice and quite fun with live music. Â They have an extensive martini list and the few that I have tried were good. Will definately keep coming back to the bar for their martinis. Â
The restaraunt was good, but not worth the $150 we spent on dinner for 2. Â Their bacon cheese bread was delicious though. Â We ordered the NY steak and lobster and each had half. Â The steak was good, cooked to order and the lobster was kind of tough. Â Atmosphere was nice, I can't complain, although it was very noisy as the place was packed (Which is a good sign). Â We may or may not come here again if we're in the mood for a nice restaraunt while in Reno.
Happy Hour Review Only.
Love the HH here!
Known for their 102 different Martini's.
Happy Hour Price: $5.00!
Sipped the Rasberry Martini with Hanger One. Loved how the waitress served up your drink at the table. Shook and poured your drink into a suger-rimmed martini glass.
Though not a big fan of Reno, I prefer Vegas, I definitely would come here if I'm in town.
Terrible.
Please read my other reviews and understand that I am not typically an overtly negative person...
But this place is terrible. Consistently terrible food, Terrible location, Terrible service. Its really not necessary to expound upon that any further. The steaks are gross, theres always some creepy dudes with mystic tans and unbuttoned shirts dining with women/escorts half their age, and the drinks are way overpriced.
That's the restaurant.
The martini bar is not terrible, per se, but it is THE place to be if youre looking to find future insurance salesmen and middle managers. UNR kids hang here when they want to feel "classy" and/or get laid on the first date.
I did it myself., I know.
You want a steakhouse in Reno? Do Harrah's. That place is insanely good. You want a meat-market for the 19-24 set with mediocre drinks and jock bartenders? Do Roxy's martini bar.
Surprisingly, Reno has great food. Â It's random, I know.
I had the best steak of my life here about 2 years ago when I came with my mom. Â I came here about a week ago with my bf, and we had another pretty fine dinner. Â I ordered the steak again to re-experience the first time 'round, but it was lacking this time. Â Different chef? Â Who knows, but even still the dinner was still very good. Â The seasonal squash side was very good, along with the truffled potatoes. Â My bf's scallop dish was divine, and the live piano player added a special touch. Â Definitely come here if you ever find yourself in Reno- which is probably never.
