I must say... I am a little bias when it comes to this Ruby's. If I wasn't... It would STILL be my favorite Ruby's for a couple reasons. The food is always fresh and hot, the location is awesome, AND there is a bar side with a FULL BAR. Barside has the full Ruby's menu as well as a bar menu with a couple awesome items like the TO-DIE-FOR Lobster Mac and Cheese and the Wontons. YUM! I ALWAYS sit on the barside because this place is like my Cheers... sometimes... you just want to go where everybody knows your name. My favorite beer is always on tap and the service staff is super friendly and happy. Ask for Aria. She is amazing! She makes great drinks and treats everyone like family. They alway turn on my Clippers games! Somenights they have live music, dancing, and even Anaheim Angels pregame radio broadcasts. Also there is a classic car club that meets there (which is both good and bad)... the parking lot is pretty tiny, so some nights you do need to circle a time or two for a spot.
I totally don't even LIVE in California any more, but when I do go home for work or play I ALWAYS stop in to my Ruby's!
Though this is a newer location, this is by far one of my favorite Ruby's (yes, even compared to those placed ever so conveniently at the end of every beach pier in So Cal). It has great character because it's in the train station and it's also (I believe) the only one with a full bar and happy hour. They even have live entertainment on weekends.
The service here is always excellent. I came in to get take out last night and the waitress who helped me was beyond sweet and extremely appreciative when I gave her a tip. The food is always good, I've never had a bad meal or a problem order.
Parking can be a little scarce if it's busy but that's probably the only downside of this great place. So I definitely suggest you "Shoobee doobee down to Ruby's!"
I love Ruby's. The atmosphere at Ruby's is one of the things I like best about them... Except here. This one Ruby's is different. It forgoes its 50's theme and has a strictly train theme. It is different and cool, but just not what you expect from Ruby's. But besides that, the food and service is great. But I often pass this Ruby's as well as many others, and drive 20 miles further just so I can go to the one on the pier at Huntington.
Review Source:I've been here at least 5 times now, and each time has been a pleasant dining experience! Our orders are always correct, and the food and service are always prompt and awesome.
The reason I'm writing this review is because normally our service is very good, but our server today was just amazing. Her name is OLA. She was friendly and such a delight! She made our dining experience so enjoyable. She had a constant, genuine smile on her face the whole time, and was extremely attentive and efficient. I honestly would like to extend a huge compliment to her. Best server we've ever had at ANY restaurant, period. I was especially impressed because I was not expecting such exceptional service at a diner!
Very fun place. At one of Amtrack's train stops near the Orange Circle, one of the better Ruby's I've been too. You gotta love a place that serves both beer and thick malts. Plus, there is a full bar.
We've always eaten outside by the train tracks, but the inside is ample and spacious. And it's not crazy packed like so many other Ruby's.
The food is fine, it is Ruby's after all, not fine dining, but I freaking love the variety of shakes and malts. I wasn't crazy about the garlic fries, which were just regular fries with some intense garlic purée tossed on top.  The burgers are always very good.
Good place for kids, too.
I have a 2 year old who loves trains, and LOVES this Ruby's. We sit outside and watch the trains come into the station. Their breakfast is awesome. Good coffee, good tea, plenty of cream and sugar. Everything is clean, and the waiters and waitresses are really nice and helpful. Waffles, pancakes, omeletes, even pumpkin pancakes. Veggie sausage option for vegetarians. You name it they got it here. And, there's never a wait for a table. It's totally tucked away, and I'm scared to give it a good review because I don't want it to start getting crowded, for now anyway, it's my spot.
Review Source:I heard about this place from a friend, but this Ruby's is special in that it is one of the older ones and has a special menu list which has bomb food. Also this Ruby is special since its the first one I seen out of many that has a bar. I came in to try the streamliner burger one night with my girlfriend. Turns out it was happy hour since a game was going on. The burger came out hot and delicious, and I also ordered some strawberry mixed drink which tasted nice and light for the night. I really like the straw fries that come with the Streamliner burger. Unlimited! So your guaranteed to get full.
I came again to this place a second time and ordered sliders. The sliders were of decent size and came with unlimited fries for the price of five bucks. Definitely a steal since it was happy hour again when I came since a game was on again. Got one of the guest beers they were serving which was definitely good. My friends that came along also like the stream liner burgers although one said his was soggy. I guess a little too juicy. Definitely a place I plan on stopping by again when I wanna drive out all the way to Orange.
I have breakfast here once a week with several business owners.
Good food, at a good price. Doesn't get much more self explanatory. Occasionally they will have seasonal touches, like pumpkin spice pancakes - Amazing!
A great way to start your day, or if you aren't one for mornings, lunch or dinner. I've long been a fan of Ruby's Diner, and this one is no exception.
I like this Ruby's... Why? Because the atmosphere is not the traditional 50's blah every other Ruby's I've been to has had. Â This place is actually pretty nice inside and has a cool theme to go with the location. I love diner food; nothing like greasy, fatty, cholesterol ridden American food to hit the spot. Good news is they have healthy menu choices as well. Â I had a turkey burger and it was pretty good. Â Service was waaaay better than a upscale place in LA I just reviewed. Â All in all I'll be coming back here in the future.
Review Source:This place makes some of the best burgers. The combinations they have are delicious, only thing I didn't like was how thin the pattys are but very filling either way. They give you ENDLESS fried....yes ENDLESS!!! As many as you can eat in the restaurant!
I wish they had some fresh drinks rather than concentrate-sugar stuff. Lemonade and strawberry lemonade tasted like crap. The shakes are amazing! $5 shakes but big enough to split between two people and thick!
I love the decor too, wish my kitchen looked like that ha ha ha
BEWARE if you sit on the outside patio area!
My group sat out there once and I was afraid it would be noisy with the Metrolink passing by but it was actually pretty quiet even when the train came! BUT every time the train passed it whooshed a bunch of dirt and leaves into the patio so we got trash in our drinks. Sucks that the train is literally steps away.
I'm typically on the fence about most Ruby's, but this one? Cute, cool, convenient, and of course cash-friendly :) Hence that elusive fifth star from little ol' me!
The FK and I came here (ok, this was *officially* prior to his being my FK, but I don't care, it's a pleasant memory anyway) as an in-between his arrival to the Orange Station and the Angel game. We downed a few beers, got a couple things to eat, and all at a great price. Next time I definitely am gonna try a signature drink... I was just trying too hard to impress my FK and didn't wanna delve into the liquor so soon ;)
My only qualm about this place is that crazy train (tm Ozzy) that runs around the ceiling when a train is coming or going outside. It's totally cute, and don't get me wrong, I love toy trains... but something needs to be oiled or at least WD-40'ed. It's too rickety and it kept interrupting my conversation with my love :)
Bathrooms are spectacular, the bar area is super spacious and I think this really is a great use of space here... A big improvement over CnC, which I also loved but in a very different, platonic kinda way. Yay Ruby's!
Ruby's is Ruby's. Â Its the same as most others, but this one is pretty cool since they have a train that runs around in the location and a bar that has some nice happy hour specials.
I'd suggest planning a Train ride to a Angels/Ducks game and stopping hereof or some  pre=party time before
I have been here a few times now. Â I still think it is a huge improvement over Cask & Cleaver and anything else that has been here. Â The Ruby's retro style is in keeping with the station architecture and design.
The only meal I have been here for is breakfast. Â Last time I was here, my son and I caught a train after breakfast. Â It was a lot of fun.
Menus such as the one at Ruby's are pretty common. Â What sets a diner like this apart is that the good ones are consistently good, reasonably priced, and offer good service. Â Ruby's delivers.
I always know what I am going to get when I come to Ruby's. Â The food is consistently decent. Â It is not spectacular, but it is good and filling. Â They seem to use fairly high quality ingredients.
The prices are fair.
Service is very good. Â The servers appear to be happy and are uniformly courteous. Â They deliver orders accurately.
We will be back for breakfast with the boys, but I would also like to check it out for happy hour since the bar is pretty cool.
Ruby's has been the go-to diner for burgers, shakes, and fries since before I can remember in my family. Before this one was built, there weren't any all that close to my home in Orange; and living in a family that craves ambiance as well as good eats, we found ourselves making the trek to the Balboa pier every time Ruby's was on the menu. When I heard there was going to be one so close to home, in my favorite old town area, at a train station of all places, I was thrilled.
My family went almost immediately after the grand opening. The food was typical Ruby's deliciousness, the service fast and friendly, and the design of both the diner and lounge a vintage-lover's dream.
This is a really cool Ruby's in Old Orange. It looks like a train station inside, and they do have a pretty good size model train going over the kitchen area. The service was great. Friendly, attentive and welcoming.
I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Burger that was quite tasty. The burger was done as well as I like it with melted Swiss and mushrooms on a toasted bun. Served with crunchy fries, it really hit the spot.
My girlfriend got the Avocado Burger which was also great. There was a lot of creamy, fresh avocado which made for a nice flavor combination. Â Really nice idea.
The fries are unlimited, but it doesn't mean make it a challenge to order that many.
For a nice place for a meal with family and friends, this is the place.
Cute decor in the streamliner lounge. Awesome happy hour.
They have a deal where you can get a burger turned into a slider type meal and they were nice enough to do it with a veggie burger for us. Â Yay Rubys!
I would definitely come back to the lounge. Â I really liked the railroad seats and trains up above!
I've been a big Ruby's fan ever since I visited my first one in Mission Valley. But then again, I'm a sucker for 1950s themed diners, all-American cuisine, and a lighthearted atmosphere.
When they opened this location near Chapman University, it was perfect for me and my parents to meet up for breakfast on weekends every now and then. I first visited this location when my friend wanted to grab a bite with me one night. We sat on the Ruby's side but I ended up ordering from The Streamliner Lounge menu; I ordered their burger with aged white cheddar cheese with artisan bun. The con about the Ruby's side is it is very loud. Mostly families with young kids dine on that side which can be tough to make any small talk with a friend in close proximity. (This is why I choose The Streamliner Lounge side now)
The order came out wrong but the clerk was quick to fix it and I'm glad I tried the burger; it was juicy, the bun was crispy on the outer edges, and the cheese was perfect.
I've been back here for the atmosphere, service at The Streamliner Lounge, and the food. Nick at the bar is a character if he waits on you.
Will definitely be back here again.
I love this rubys, the steamliner lounge is rad! Â
They have a lounge menu with more gourmet offerings and an amazing happy hour with lobster mac and cheese, brie and pear something, short rib tacos, etc. etc.Lounge part is huge, room for lots of people to sit comfortably.
Great new option for "drinking" in the circle!
I came here with my family for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and we were seating right away. Â We sat inside and the ambiance of the restaurant was so awesome. Â This isn't your typical Ruby's with the white and red 50s decor. Â This has an open stainless steel kitchen, dark wood table and walls, and a really cool train up above. Â The train drive by every 45 minutes or so and it's super fun for kids to see.
Also, handicap accessibility is important to my family and there's handicap parking right up front. Sometimes old buildings that have been converted into restaurants or stores aren't very accessible, but we had no issues.
The food and the service was awesome. Â We ordered burgers and shakes, but my husband got some chicken tenders off the Streamliner menu and they were AMAZING! Â
Definitely check this place out!
My review of the 5 star is strictly for the mouth watering, healthy appetite feeding, uber savory Gorgonzola Specialty Burger. Â Yes I just said uber.
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fs3-media1.px.yelpcdn.com%2Fbphoto%2FsUaX8yxmXdholNokdn7Trw%2Fl.jpg&s=a809dd756d36ac54544cc543144db4241ab5d84eab2c408f0c478ff5349667c5" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://s3-media1.px.yelp…</a> Â
The Gorgonzola Burger sounds like a made up name to describe how big this burger is, at least that's what I assumed. Â I was corrected by my buddy that it is a type of cheese and it was probably the cheese that was in the burger, delicious. Â It also consisted of premium beef patty that was possibly hand made, thick slabs of bacon, tomato, lettuce, garlic aioli sauce and then some. Â A slice of red onion and pickle came on the side.
I went ahead and upgraded my shoestring fries for Sweet Potato fries for a $1 more because I love them things. Â Our waitress told me that I could get a refill of my fries free of charge when I upgraded and try the other fries that they have there. Â
Sweet potato fries were crisp on the outside and soft and meaty on the inside, loved it. Â I ordered the garlic fries next and they were pretty horrible. Â I mean, I LOVE garlic, but the fries had a horrible texture. Â It wasn't really soggy but it was more....stale? Â No crisp, not meaty, tasted oily...bleh, pass.

Their Arnold Palmer(drink) was a good ratio of lemonade and tea. Â Clam Chowder is very tick some may think its too think but it tastes great and is flavorful.

Came her with Vanessa H. and a few other girlfriends on a Friday night. Â We sat on the bar side to get the out of the ordinary Ruby's experience with specialty cocktails and a bar menu that's only offered at this location. Â I'd say the best thing about our night (besides the company, of course!) were the cocktails - I LOVED my blackberry mojito and that super grapefruit concoction I got as well. Â Prices were a little steep, but totally affordable if you were to come during happy hour.
Food was all over the board, but most of it fell somewhere right in "A-Ok" land. Â Our appetizers were totally unimpressive due to an overly aggressive bread toaster in the kitchen. Â Dear bread toaster, chill out - charred = not tasty. Â I also ordered a Club Burger as I was dazzled by the promise of blue cheese, bacon and avocado (I'm easily dazzled). Â It was fine, nothing off the charts phenomenal, nothing oh my god take this back to the kitchen awful.
I normally don't review chains, but this happens to be the only Ruby's that serves alcohol and has a full bar in the Streamliner Lounge. It's just down the street from the Circle, and has its own little private parking lot.
The food here is pretty average. We got a few appetizers and weren't thrilled with any of them. The Cheesy Garlic Bread had been over-toasted and was charred. The Dip Trio was served with toasted (charred) baguette slices, and when we asked for an alternate dipping device we were told there weren't really any other options (no chips, and no non-toasted baguette slices). Our entrees were not bad, but not especially good either.
They had live entertainment on the Friday night I was here, which was nice bonus!
I did like the Blackberry Mojito. It was good enough to get two, but just a little pricey at $9.00. Overall this was a great place to hang out and with good company, you can have a great time anywhere. But don't come here just for the food (or even the drinks, as a novelty in Ruby's); you're better off in one of the more unique spots right around the Circle -- and you've got plenty of them.
We really like Rubys Diner... but this particular location this past weekend really disappointed me. It was about 8PM and pretty empty... we were THE ONLY couple on the other side where the kitchen was at. The wait for 2 burgers and fries was pretty lengthy considering there was no one. Then when our food arrived, everything was COLD. I don't think I'm paying almost 30 dollars dinner for cold burgers and fries. So I asked for new batch of hot fries to be replaced... I wasn't going to wait for a new burger if it took that long. Of course the bust boy took all the plate and food back and left husband and I with NO PLATES and just  dripping burger in our hands. I only wanted new hot fries... why did he take everything back? I don't know. He did speak English. Â
For a second I thought this was a joke and a midget was going to pop out of the corner saying we won 100 dollars for having patience. But nope, no midget. Just us and our dripping burgers with no plates.
At this point, when you can't flag anyone to get your attention; all you gotta do is grub.
It WOULD be nice if we saw our waiter once during our meal.
After we were done with our burger, they brought out our fries and accessories for our burgers (tomatoes, lettuce and pickles) Oh yeah, my husband's burger had no tomatoes, lettuce or pickles...
Now the waiter comes back and asked us to rate the service... I told him how horrible it was and he was apologetic because he was working on scheduling and cleaning crews... blah blah blah... Â and that he'd offer desert on the house because he didn't check up on us once after he took our order. Reallly?? We didn't care for the desert but the fact he came out and wanted to know how he can better serve us next time is great. Especially if he was next in line to own this restaurant (at least that's what he said). Hopefully he doesn't let this kind of experience happen to anyone else...
Trains, Burgers, and Root Beer Floats!
Southern California and the OC life styel. OC has so much to offer. Unique foods and ethnic eateries dot the landscape. What could be better? Yup, Summer time and having a burger, rootbear float, and hopping on the Sufliner and take a train ride down the beautiful OC and Sand Diego Coastline!
Ruby's did it right. The food is average...but the ambiance is amazing. Great for kids. Complete meal with a complete train theme at a train theme at the train station. They also have a bar area and booze. There is a separate and unique lounge menu that you can also order in the main diner. You can exit out the back door and walk ten steps and you are right on the train tracks. Purhase your ticket from an automated machine and you can take any of the local trains.
I brought the little one hear for the 4th of July! They have unique toys for entertaining including card board models that you build at your table. Pictures of trains and unique photos are aranged throughout the diner. Friendly service and a ton of smiles. You can also sit outside on the patio and watch the trains pass by. This is a classic way to enjoy the summer. Three star food but a perfect ambiance and place to hang.
Funny...hop on the train anywhere and head down here with the kids or to grab a beer or mai tai with your buddy.
Parking is Easy and Free!
Ruby's Diner Orange Depot & Streamliner Lounge, Orange...another reason the OC is the best place to live!
Today was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day with the only bright spot being Ruby's Diner specifically the Streamliner Lounge.
I beelined at lunchtime to the lounge because that I had read an amazing review in the OC Register and needed a treat, especially a cocktail after my morning.
Rebecca, my friendly bartender, recommended a couple of drinks but made sure to point out the Streamliner Rita. Typically, I am not the margarita type but this had X-Rated in it and thought it might work out. One sip and HEAVEN!
I was set on the mac and cheese but she said to check out the beer battered swordfish on onion roll with coleslaw...holy canolli. It was huge! The batter was perfect, the roll was fresh and the swordfish was the perfect protein. I even talked myself into thinking it was healthy as it wasn't beef.
Rebecca knew the menu and made amazing recommendations. She also pointed out their awesome happy hour prices that made me want to come back. I love it when the staff love the food and drinks they are serving.
I love old towne orange as is so when they added a Ruby's it just made my day! They needed to add another cool bar in the mix and sure did a great job. The decore makes your feel like your back in the 1950's even when your in the ladies room they have the 50's music playing!
Their menu is a different from the other Ruby's with mini fish tacos in fried wong tong wrappers and this amazing mouth watering carne asada sandwhich.
What I liked the most was the little train that would go around the room every hour or so. I know they just opened but the service was great! I will becoming a regular for sure!
