Went here for a surprise birthday party for a friend of my and about 20 other people. Â This was apparently a very popular night for birthday events as all the tables were packed with birthday parties upstairs and down. Â It took forever (quite a lot of time) to get the pizza/flat bread type of dish that my wife and I ordered. Â The fries came quickly but we ordered those about a half hour after we ordered the first dish. Â The pizza/flat bread was rather bland but not altogether bad. Â I had a great IPA called G'Knight and my wife had some sort of rather earthy cabernet that was pretty good. Â The staff was very friendly when we finally got their attention and staked our claim on two seats at the bar. Â I was under-whelmed with regard to the food but fully realize that the tiny overstaffed kitchen was over-whelmed with the amount of orders. Â I would like to try this establishment again at some point at a less crowded time as I feel that it is worth another go-round. Â Ambiance was cool and hip, front door was hard to find, staff works hard and tries hard, get a more extensive wine list please.
Review Source:Went here for lunch during the week. it was pretty empty when we got there, but slowly more people started to come. Order food first, beer off to the side, and the food is brought to you.
Their food choices are pretty basic but with a lot of options (if that makes sense). Basic choices: salads, kebab plate, or a doner (wrap). Then you choose the type of meat and sides you want. I got a kebab plate, which was a lot of food. 3 kebabs and 2 sides fill up your square plate with deliciousness.
Their beer selection is really nice. would brew their own beer, but this place does! The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable.
Sitting outside on their patio is one of the best parts. Sitting right next to the beach with the sun shinning and a nice cold beer in your hand spells out SUMMERTIME!
I will definitely be back and bringing more friends too!
I came here with a couple of my friends for our monthly get together. I must have circled the parking lot at least three times because this place was easy to miss. Anyway, this is a small, lounge-type of place that is also quite hip! We were the only ones in this place because it was a slow evening. We were arrived at 5pm but everyone knows darn well that the beautiful hipsters come out after 9pm! The waitress was super sweet and down to Earth! She should have pulled up a chair to hang out with us ladies! Anyway, the food was great and I'll definitely come back to Sababa! They even gave me a complimentary dessert because my birthday was coming up. I haven't been here in almost a year but I plan on heading back over to Sababa in the near future. I might want to come later in the evening when this place is jumping!
Review Source:I was really surprised by Sababa. I'm usually not very fond of "loungey" restaurants, but this place was different. The food was really good. Â We had a lot of items and I really enjoyed the Israeli-inspired menu. Loved the trio of dips served with pita bread. They do this whole eggplant which they bake and then open up and drizzle with toppings such as tahini and it is so delicious! I love eggplant and I think this is a really unique item never seen at other similar restaurants.
The falafels here are seasoned with paprika which may create a dark coating when fried. Don't fret because the inside is a beautiful hue of chickpeas. Tender and light, not at all dense like some falafels I've had.
The grilled salmon with Moroccan flavors was another favorite. I don't usually like cooked salmon but this one was flaky, moist and the flavors of red peppers and tomato was rich and hearty.
Shashuouk is a dish which can only be described as ratatouille in tomato sauce topped with poached eggs. Loved the flavors and it is vegetarian as well. Nice breakfast dish!! The poached eggs are runny which adds a richer dimension to the vegetables.
Oh, and don't forget to get some cocktails. I tried the tequila ones and they were delicious!!
I must say I am under-whelmed when it comes to the food here. Â For the most part, everything needed SALT. Â It wasn't that the flavors weren't there for an excellent dish, but overall the palate wanted more flavor from the dish.
The service was very friendly and helpful. Â Would I give this place another try? Â Sure, i would, but I would most likely opt for other meal choices.
3.5 stars.
Small but cool little restaurant. I can totes imagine sitting in one of their outdoor tables on a warm summer night! Had a birthday dinner here with about 14 people and the private mezzanine upstairs was perfect. Service was great - we took our suhweet time ordering and eating and with people coming late and leaving early, and our server was very accommodating with separate orders/checks, making sure we were doing well, and bringing out a birthday pie + ice cream we brought separately.
Those nachos you keep reading about - these are probably the healthiest nachos you'll ever eat. Think pita chips, hummus, and salad elements. You'll be able to eat this delicious thing forever and not feel an ounce of guilt. Their other food and drinks were good, but not exceptionally amazing for the price.
sababa!
good service. great atmosphere. ordered the mediterranean nachos with grilled lamb (pita chips, goat cheese, fresh spinach, roasted red bell peppers, kalamata olives, hummus, & tahini vinaigrette). delicious. must try!
will definitely come back again and try other things on the menu! check out the picture i posted.
3 martini flight made my night.... Yummers!
Hard to find, like any gem, but soooo worth the search! Just tell people it's on the same side as Trader Joes or BevMo, and people will find it.
I've introduced lots of people to this eclectic lil gem.
Peoe are always impressed with the ambiance and friendly employees.
Matt, the new manager has been as friendly and accommodating  as Jeff, who just left as the friendliest manager in the LBC. And we love Marco, the chill-est bartender we met.
Drinks are strong and if you 'like' Sababa on Facebook, you get a FREE Sababa shot!
Yay! DJ's are great, just wish there was more dancing/dancers. The patio is a perfect place to dance the night away! We often hit Sababa after another engagement to get a lil groove on. Sometimes it's a hit-or-miss; but mostly a Hit.
And brunch, with bottomless mimosas and the pretty fountain outside the patio make for a cool and relaxing Sunday.
Try Sababa )means COOL, in some language..)
Sababa , Sababa, Sababa !
We have now been to Sababa a few times, overall we have had great experiences there.  My fiancé and I are both recently turned vegan, so we were excited to find a place that offered a few vegan options.  The food is pretty good.  I don't think it is outstanding but it definitely is good food.  I've always liked our drinks and cocktails we have ordered as well.  Their happy hour menu is pretty good too.  The bartenders are friendly and we've had the same waiter each time that we sat at a table.  I should know his name by now but unfortunately I am better with faces than names.  For the décor, I love the environment...it has a cool vibe but not one that is snooty or where you feel like they are trying too hard to be fancy.  They play good music as well and we are even considering checking out their options for our rehearsal dinner when it comes time. Â
We will definitely return but I was disappointed with our last visit.  I asked the waited to wrap up the rest of my salad and he never did.  I think he threw it away.  Kinda was a waste seeing as it was like a $12 salad which  1/2 was tossed. I am going to pin it on maybe just a bad day or accident.  Hopefully it doesn't happen again since we do really enjoy Sababa.
This place has been our go-to for a great meal, and it isn't going to take too many words to explain why:
-We've never had anything but exceptional service and the food is outstanding.
-Literally the best rib eye I've ever had. I dream about it and those Sababa potatoes.
I do have to say, the inside decor is a bit overkill, but the outside patio is relaxing and refreshing.
I like this place. Â Lemme tell you why:
LOCATION
While hecka-hard to find in the shopping center, once you know it, you'll love it. Â The outside patio is my favorite. Â The outside lounge is chic. Â It's near enough to the fountain for you to get the benefit of listening to the water. Â The inner sanctum has an interesting vibe, but still nice. Â People seem to really prefer to sit at the bar...
SERVICE
I love good customer service. Â Jeff, the owner rocks. Â Chris, the event manager, rocks hard. Â ; ) Â All the other servers are equally as wonderful, which beckons you back.
FOOD
Mediterranean Israeli, from the owner's heritage. Â EVERYTHING is delicious. Â
--YOU MUST HAVE THE NACHOS! Â Looking healthy, I wanted to stop my server and tell them they brought me the wrong dish. Â Spinach, olives, hummus...but these things are DELICIOUS together with the goat cheese--and SO filling! Â Whoo! Â Makes you wanna slap yo' Momma('s back)!
--Lamb kabobs. Â New and different. Â I'll pass, but my friends liked it. Â We just wanted to do something besides chicken.
--Tuna tar tar. Â I believe it was left on the plate--but it's an acquired taste anyway.
--Burger sliders. Â YUM!
--Chicken wings. Â Delicious. Â Spicy. Â Needs libation to balance the spice.
--I don't drink, but my friends do, and everyone liked their drinks.
VIBE
You'll have a great time! Â I first spent time in this locale when I was in the plaza and heard a D.J. Â It turns out that 9PM brings a DJ. Â Nice and grown. Â Even before the DJ (before 9PM), there's a great vibe of folk just enjoying the day.
This is a CUTE spot! We were here last night (for the 1st time) and everything was great! The food is delish and the service is amazing. We were visited by (i'm guessing) the manager and the owner or maybe they are both owners, i'm not sure. But they were just making sure we didn't need anything else. Which we didn't since our server was on top of it all! We got there around 6pm and stayed and chatted till about 10 something. And the whole time we were checked on - talk about great service! Our glasses were NEVER empty! And right before we ready to leave, the owner came by (again) and offered to buy us dessert! It was GREAT! Mocha creme brule! TRY IT! Â He also told us that Sababa means cool in Hebrew (in case you were wondering).
We ate & drank (The Margarita was great!) off of the happy hour menu (3-7pm). Had the sababa salad (YUM!), eggplant, mushrooms and calamari. All were great and I don't even like mushrooms. I definitely recommend this place. It looks small, but don't judge a book by it's cover! You can sit outside by the water, inside, at the bar, in the little lounge-y couch area and they even have an upstairs!
Great food, cocktails and service.
My fiance and I sat on the patio - it was a little cool but overhead lamps kept us toasty warm. The vibe was nice - a few big groups were arriving and were in full scream but it was nice to see people having fun!
We ordered cocktails - I had the LA Woman martini (recommended in other Yelp reviews) and my fiance ordered the El Caliente (spicy). We both enjoyed our drinks. We ordered appetizers to share: the zucchini soup, spiced sliders, lamb kabobs and the mediterranean nachos. All were yummy. The standout dish was the mediterranean nachos - tasty pita crisps and really good hummus. The zucchini soup was also delicious, not too salty which is always my problem with restaurant soups. The lamb kabobs were a little disappointing. I was hoping for a good tender cut of meat, but it seemed to be ground lamb shaped into round patties and grilled like hamburger. Service was attentive and friendly. All in all a lovely experience and we'll go back there for sure.
BEST BURGER IN LONG BEACH - possibly in LA County?
For as awesome as the food is, the personal service stands out just as much. The bartenders, servers, and manager Jeff and owner Sagi routinely introduce themselves to unfamiliar faces not just to confirm that quality and service are up to standard, but genuinely to build relations with new guests which enhances the dining experience. I'd rather spend my money at privately owned businesses with people that care than go to a big chain.
Other culinary delights: the stuffed mushrooms are insanely delicious especially when paired with the sliders.
Cool atmosphere with good service however I was thoroughly disappointed with the food. I had the Katifa Prawns entree which I found to be greasy and bland. The prawns had a strong flavor of oil/grease and the tomato sauce in the rice was overpowering. The place is probably best for a drink with friends.
Review Source:Wow. My Dad's friend took us here for a nice dinner on a night out. First, let me tell you my Dad must be trotting me around to all the Mimi's/Coco's/Hof's Hut and going to all the super yummy places with his friends. Disclaimer: I've come to love those places, but sometimes you've had your fill of comfort food and need something new & exciting.
Now about Sababa, it was a little more mature of a crowd (I am in my late twenties). I started with a ice cold cocktail, a delicious- Moscow Mule. THE BEST Moscow Mule I've ever had! The bartender here knows what's up. The service was just okay, but I think it was due to a party on the second level. But the food DEFINITELY made up for it. We just about ordered the entire menu and even some special requests. Everything was so flavorful, like someone's grandma made it from scratch from old country- but came out of the kitchen with elegance and flair. I definitely recommend Sababa... and sit on the patio! The owner did come out to greet my Dad's friend and gave them Sababa shots... I don't do shots with dinner, that's what Vegas is for! (I'm telling you these guys are wild.)
The service is good. Â The food here is terrible. Â 6 of us met up this weekend and we were all disappointed. Â The nachos had the pita chips at the bottom of the bowl under all of the fixings...which was really more of a salad than anything. Â Not nacho-y at all. Â The calamari LOOKED really good but had no flavor. Â Salt couldn't even help them. Â The plate with the dippers (hummus, babbaghanoush and another paste that I can't remember right now) was good but the dippers were about 3 tablespoons each. Â Ridiculous. Â My husband got the falafel patties. Â Over cooked and under flavored. Â I got the salmon toro. Â They were VERY overcooked to where they were super dry and the fish did not taste fresh. Â Everyone at the table tried a bite and agreed that they did not taste good at all. Â Our friend got the seared tuna and he seemed to like it quite a bit. Â Another friend got the veggie patty/burger. Â She said it was rather disappointing. Â Tasted like a frozen kind she gets at the grocery store. Â She liked the fresh spinach that accompanied the patty. Â Her boyfriend got a steak with a side of sauteed spinach. Â He said the steak was just ok but not great and the sauteed spinach was over cooked and over salted. Â
The only thing good was the bottle of sauvignon blanc...but they didn't make that. Â The atmosphere overall is also nice and comfortable. Â I'd come here for drinks but NEVER again for the food.
Sababa has a great atmosphere! It is a great place to come on a weekend night to enjoy dinner and then chill/hang out drinking cocktails and listening to the DJ. Bottle service is also an option so it perfect for birthday celebrations. The vibe is classy and fun at the same time.
I was a little apprehensive because I wasn't sure if i would like Mediterranean food. I ordered the Half Pound burger and added goat cheese. The burger was delicious, juicy, and flavorful. There is also a vegan burger and vegan chicken, which is a plus since I was with vegan and vegetarian friends. The waitress was amazing! We had a group of about 25 and she was so friendly, attentive, and remembered what we were all drinking. The manager or owner came over a few times to see if we needed anything and to make sure we were enjoying our meal.
It is hard to find if you enter from PCH to just drive to the very back of the center and you should see it in back of the restaurants that face PCH. There isn't much to do around the area by way of bar hopping so plan on enjoying your night there.
This was a nice chill surprise in the middle of a shopping plaza. One of my fiance's friends had a birthday dinner here a few weeks ago and we came for dessert while everyone else came for some grub and drinks. We came on a weekend during the start of the DJ late night set, so they had music bumping and people dancing near our table.
The patio is chill and the people are surprisingly hip/cool and in the 20-40 age range (hip place to go if you are single, I assume?).
Our party stated that the food was good, but not great (but I do think everyone's palate was not used to the flavors).
Drinks were not cheap, but were tastefully presented.
We really enjoyed our apple baklava dessert, not too sweet with a scoop of ice cream. YUMMMMOOOO. If you like baked apple dessert things, this is worth a trip if you are in the area.
We came here the other night for a place to eat, have a few cocktails and hang out. Â I was pleasantly surprised with how much fun we had! Â The food was very good and the service was amazing. Â It was a Friday and they had an awesome DJ out on the enclosed patio. Â Very loungy scene with white furniture and a fireplace. Â
The owner was there and he was very gracious, buying us shots and making sure we were well taken care of. Â The crowd, the security, the servers, everyone was just really nice!
When we arrived the waitress explained their motto, Sababa -- meaning it's all good. Â I joked that they wouldn't say that later when I was table dancing after they gave me the shots. Â No really, it was all Sababa! Â I'm definitely coming back here soon!
Corazón de Vida - Heart of Life
The Update Saturday madness continues as I update reviews while doing laundry and packing!  This restaurant's ratings doubles as I thoroughly enjoyed the appetizers and drinks that I had during the fundraiser for Corazón de Vida, one of the leading charities that helps the orphanages in Baja California.
We had flatbread with dips, kabobs and some wonderful spiced sliders that paired well with sparkling wine and pinot. Â Service was friendly and efficient, after a slow start, plus it is awesome that this restaurant supported this lovely organization. Â Â Â
Highly recommended and a big improvement over my previous visit! Â They are now removed from 2 Star List!
I went to Sababa on a date night. We had a coupon which was for 25$ so we decided that we might as well try the place out. Sitting down at our places I have to say I really liked the ambiance of the fountain and the chairs, and the setting. It was very nice. I looked over the menu and found that they had a really decent beer selection, which is always refreshing, though apparently common in southern california.
I had a Sababa Kabab and Grilled Salmon. The Kababs were fantastic, they had a great texture and flavour, and the sauce that they came with was very nice. The way the dish was presented was very nice. The salmon was also very good, great presentation, served nicely, and the mixture of flavours was very nice, though I would have liked it if there was a little less spinach, or if the spinach had some sort of seasoning.
The desert I had was the Apple Baklava, I really liked it. Maybe I should have had ice cream, but I wanted to taste the actual baklava, instead of icecream. It was nice.
I found the service to be very attentive, yet not overtly smothering. I really liked our servers, and it was a good experience. The only minus point I have to say is that we went in with a 25 dollar coupon and the bill that we paid was practically the same before the discount as after the discount. I'm not really sure I really appreciate being nickle and dimed. Other than that I can't really fault them.
Must confess I tend to trust yelp pretty blindly when the restaurant has 4+ stars, but this was a disappointment.
The food was poorly executed, drinks were made with warm liquor which resulted in a watered down boring attempt at a cocktail and the air conditioning was broken.
The menu was a confused blend of Mediterranean food that's hardly authentic and leaves you searching for something interesting to order.
All that said the issue is really about expectations. Â My expectations were reasonably high given the way sababa presents their experience but the execution flaws ( bone dry lamb, bland hummus, soggy calamari ) will prevent me from returning.
The atmosphere is cool, especially at night if you are coming for drinks. The food is tasty but a bit over priced.
I got the Sababa salad with Salmon. It was tasty but something I could have made at home. I was unimpressed by the salmon. First off, it was like 2 oz of salmon and it tastes like it was prepackaged. I am convinced it was. I am not joking about the 2 oz part either. it was legit the tiniest portion of salmon I have ever seen.
The food was lacking salt. Not sure who was cooking it but the food all came out bland.
We got an array of apps to share with the table. Everything was okay, except for the hummus. The hummus was exceptional.
Over all...this place is for drinks, not great food. Utterly disappointed about the food. It's bumming me out to even type and relive the event.
The End.
I just had the most wonderful dinner here. Â This is the first time my roommates and I went to Sababa. Â We had read reviews and thought tonight would be the perfect evening for dinner out.
We had the flat bread with dips along with mini chicken kabobs for an appetizer. Â I happen to love hummus to begin with, but their hummus dip had a deep rich flavor that offset their toasted flat breads which I think had garlic in them as well. Â The roasted pepper almond dip was new to me and a very good flavor combination. Â The chicken kabobs had a very delicate flavor of garlic, salt and pepper and were very moist.
I had ordered the rib eye steak with their sababa potatoes. Â The steak was beautifully aged and had a rich flavor that was truly incredible!! Â The chef cooked it perfectly for me and it was so large I had to bring the rest home. Â Now, the potatoes are a treat all by themselves. Â They were fried and had a crisp outer coating, which by itself was very tasty. Â They then put red roasted bell peppers (I think) on top with a tahini sauce and goat cheese.
I haven't had such a wonderful fusion Mediterranean meal like this ever. Â
Jeff the manager (I hope I got your name right!) was attentive and had a firm hand in running this restaurant as well as being very knowledgeable. Â Our server, Alexa, was professional and warm and provided excellent service. Â The whole ambiance of the resteraurant was conducive towards our enjoying our dinner. Â We sat out on the patio and had a lovely sunset to go with our delicious dinner.
We are all looking forward to going back there again. Â I will be singing the praises of Sababa!
It really doesn't get any better than this. Restaurants like Sababa make me love Yelp because I can tell the world about this awesome place! The food was absolutely amazing, I didn't try a single thing I didn't like. The service was impeccable, with the owner coming up to make sure everything was great and a complimentary round of shots. We had a party of 10 for a birthday party and made a reservation. We arrived on time and everything was ready, we didn't have to wait at all.
Half of the table had a really nice view of the fountain, bridge and grassy area outside, while the other half got to look at the loungey area inside and the cool art on the walls. And there were really powerful heat lamps outside so we didn't get cold. I ordered the L.A. Woman martini, which was really sweet and fruity. I liked it a lot and I'd order it again for sure. It won the award for best martini in 2011 and I can see why. Good stuff.
We got the nachos for our appetizer, which comes on pita chips and has their special Sababa sauce, hummus, tomatoes, and other yummy veggies. They were delish and I convinced myself they were also pretty healthy. ;) My friends got the calamari, and that was good too. Not the best I've had but definitely not bad. For my entree I got the burger, which I absolutely loved. It came on a hawaiian bun with grilled onions and sababa sauce. One of the best burgers I've had. My boyfriend ordered the penne, which he couldn't stop raving about. It had tons of vegetables and an interesting mint-pesto sauce..really good.
With a martini, a beer, nachos, penne ($12), my burger ($12), and tax/gratuity our bill was $65. Worth every penny. And after our delicious meal we were escorted to an area reserved for us with couches and chairs where we were able to sit, drink, and enjoy the music and each other's company. It was a really great experience and Sababa nailed it in every aspect. Thank you!
-Karaoke on Monday nights, DJ Friday and Saturday, bottomless mimosas on Sunday
Sababa lives up to their name (which all that work there say means "cool")! We came for dinner craving Mediterranean food. Sababa didn't disappoint.
We did have a lont wait for seating, which is why I can't give it that last star. After 7 minutes, we flagged down a waiter who cleaned a table off for us to use. We didn't get drinks, though there were some really tasty sounding ones on the menu.
For dinner, we decided to do appetizers. My friends had been to Sababa before so they recommended some of the dishes they enjoyed. We had the calamari, lamb kebobs, grilled eggplant, salmon toro and the chicken wings. If I have to pick a favorite, it was the lamb kebobs. They were so tender and delicious...yum. Â The calamari had two dipping sauces but really could have fed 1 person, so I wish there was a little more on the plate. The kebobs were enough for 3 to share (1 each) and had a delicious cous cous on the plate (I'm still thinking about it!). Get the lamb kebobs just for the cous cous!
The salmon toro was great too, the fish flaked off onto the fork and the sticky rice was tasty. The oils that came with it were so good! The grilled eggplant was like butter, you could taste the grilled taste (smoky flavor). The homemade pita chips were a nice touch. The only suggestion I would make for this dish was to pull it off the skin as it made it hard to eat.
The chicken wings were ok. We didn't understand the point of the corn topping. Spicy, but not crispy. So I wish they were more crispy. The garilc-artichoke aioli dipping sauce was different and I didn't think it went well with it.
The owner came over after our meal to introduce himself  and was really thrilled with us eating at his restaurant. He seemed really happy that we enjoyed ourselves.
I would definitely return here. Food was great, atmosphere was nice...all good!
3.5 stars. Some friends and I had just caught a movie at the AMC Marina Pacifica and were in the mood for a chill atmosphere, good drinks, and awesome music. This is a great place for all of the above.
Atmosphere: This place was SO HARD TO FIND (especially at night). It's in a plaza, so it's not stand alone. My GPS said it was near the Claim Jumper, but it's totally not, haha. You'd be best entering from the 2nd street entrance and not the PCH entrance.
The area is spacious, the lighting is dim with red tint, and there is a patio. We came in around 10:30 and easily snagged a table inside, but around 11:30ish the place started filling.
Food and Drink: I ordered the Nachos. If you're into mediterranean food, you'd like this take on the dish - it had a generous amount of Hummus, Feta, and toasty pita chips. It was good and filling.
I first ordered the Sababa Sweet Tea. It really just tasted like sweet tea. I didn't feel too much from it either. The second drink I ordered was the Sababa Lemonade, and that was much more memorable - it was tangy and sweet at the same time, and you could taste the kick of alcohol. Reasonably priced drinks for a lounge ($7-$8)
Service: Great for a lounge! Our waitress was speedy and checked on us often. The owner also came around to check on us.
The music is top notch. I dont know if the DJ that spins is a regular, but he knew how to transition and match up 90s R&B (the besttttt) with current music.
I'd definitely come again if I were in the area.
Their drinks are great and their Happy Hour is worth the trip.
Parking is not bad, but I imagine people get lost trying to find it (to the left of BevMo and back a bit into the walkway).
Their food is OK, but not exceptional. I was expecting a bit more after all the hype from a couple friends.
The seating is lovely though, very comfortable patio couches, a nice big table, and lots of people watching.
I don't know that I'd go out of my way to return, but I certainly would go back.
I went here for a friend's birthday and we all had the bottomless mimosas. I tried some of their food items as well, their nachos was what stood out the most. I added lamb to the one I shared, and it was really good. The calamari lacked flavor though.
Service was great and the waitress, manager, and owner were all very nice!
Pleasantly surprised!
I was actually expecting a huge letdown, but I left the restaurant happy and planning a return visit! Â
I was able to make a reservation on short notice. The guy on the phone said they don't usually make reservations for two, but he made one anyway.
When we came in, there was no one at the hostess booth, so we went inside. We were feeling a little clueless, but the bartender gestured us forward and found us a host. We were given a table upstairs, but were offered one downstairs or even outside. We took the table upstairs.
Our server was really friendly. He came back a million times to ask about our order, which was nice but left us a little anxious, since we took a while to decide what to eat. The menu, although small, has a strange array of items, so we had difficulty choosing.
In the end, we got two appetizers and an entree to share. Our server suggested a drink (some Moscow thing), but he didn't like it at all. :(
The nachos, we got them without meat, were surprisingly tasty! Â I'm not the biggest fan of olives, but they gave a great bite to the rest of the ingredients. The fresh spinach balanced out the other saltier flavors. I thought we were going to regret not adding some sort of meat to the dish, but it was completely unnecessary! Â i could eat another serving right now!
The tuna tar tar was okay. I'm not sure how fresh the fish was, but it was passing. I only wish they had cut through the fish completely, because many of the "pieces" were stuck together, and that made eating them with chips troublesome.
The ahi tuna entree was smaller than we expected, but we were both full by the meal's close. Compared to the other two items, this had the least amount of seasoning. I could see some calling it bland, but I thought it was nice. I enjoyed the tomato, cucumber, and onion salad underneath, and the harissa mashed potatoes were lightly flavored and a welcome compliment.
It was ladies night, and there were all sorts of specials and a live band. I can totally see myself coming back for this. :)
Sagi (the Owner) is outstanding and it shows from the moment you enter Sababa. The staff is extremely attentive and welcoming. The menu is well designed and features contemporary Mediterranean dishes.
Please try the hummus nachos (I'm a hummus connoisseur and Sababa's hummus makes the grade)
Also try the Prawns - I can't even describe how delicious this dish is, just try it.
Sagi always has something planned, DJ's, Karaoke, Aerial Dance Acrobatics (with silk suspended from ceiling) combined with late night food service and on-point signature drinks - watch out! Sababa is a place to be reckoned with!
Great food, drinks, service and serve food late night! That's what I'm talking about!
Loved the Sababa Salad with moist (dank) salmon, the lamb kabobs which was served with bomb cous cous or something, but could have done without the zucchini soup the waitress recommended.
Mmm. I'm hungry for that now!
