Great food at a great price!!!  The decor might not be much to look at, but the food was delicious.  I might have to bone up on my Spanish because I plan to visit this place more often.

Sabor Latino has some of the best pupusas in the DC area...

Some of you may be asking WTF is a Pupusa!? Well, my friends, let me tell you.  Its traditionally Salvadoran made of thick corn with wonderfully tasty goodness on the inside.  The "inside" can be either beans & cheese, just cheese, chicharron (pork), queso (cheese), or loroco (no idea what that is).  I always order pupusa revueltas (mixed) with chicharron con queso.  Served with the pupusa is a vinegary cabbage slaw and a tomato sauce that will either be given to you separately or already mixed.

I eat the cabbage either as a side dish to the pupusa or I put some on top of the pupusa.  Soooooooooo GOOD!  Enjoy, my friends!

Authentic Latin food in an authentic latin atmosphere (a happy but slower pace -it's ok, that's what the chips and salsa are for). Futbol (soccer) seems to be on half of the televisions with Spanish music videos on the other half. While it is true that less than half of the staff can speak english, I don't see this as a problem.  Now, at first I was a little intimidated being the only "gringo" in there, but once I unleashed my spanish skills, I had all the waitresses coming over to talk and help me.  I haven't tred everything on the menu, I seem to be ordering only the pupusas all the time, but that's how good they are. The Pupusas are great here, especially the chichirrron.

After realizing that El Charro across the street was closed for Easter, we wandered over to this strip mall to try and find some authentic Latin American food.  Of the two restaurants here, this one seemed the most promising.  All the signage was solely in Spanish, so we were anxious to see if we had found a local gem.

This place is half-restaurant and half pool hall.  We were the only non-Hispanic people there - lots of young men and families gathering for a late Sunday lunch while watching the Spanish equivalent of MTV and futbol.

I ordered the horchata to drink and the rest of the group ordered water.  I think we were all surprised when the water came out in bottles.  My horchata was very good, but very sweet.  We all ordered a pupusa to start and other specialties.  The pupusas were good - a thick dough encompassing many different fillings and served alongside a pickled cabbage dish that we translated as the Salvadorean equivalent of kimchi.

I ordered the Salvadorian beef stew, and one of my friends ordered the same with chicken.  It was an immense plate of food that included stewed beef and a variety of vegetables, including carrots, potatoes, onions and zucchini.  It also come with rice, refried beans and homemade tortillas.  The beans were fantastic - they had a silken consistency that went well with the rest of the food.  The tortillas were also amazing - they came out freshly made - thick and soft and perfect for filling with beef and hot sauce.

The rest of the group ordered a chicken torta, which ended up being a fried chicken sandwich, and the NY strip steak.  The steak was a little overdone and chewy.  The service was friendly but rather slow.  I'm sure there are some stellar items on the menu - I just don't think we found them.
