I went for a 3 star because I'm not sure how I feel about this place. Â The service is really slow, and they have a really annoying bar method with tickets. Â Its almost setup for the young people that congregate there to "drink". Â I witnessed 3 separate groups of young men share 1 shot of whiskey. Â Felt like the newbies of the drinking world gathered here. Â
But, then I came again on an off night and the older crown was out and it was much more fun and outgoing.
So not sure if I like it. Â As i see, its a bar. Â Get over it.
I'm not really sure what scent they were going for when they established Saints, but if it was slightly funky / old person / moth ball-ish... well then they nailed it! It's not unbearable by any means, but yeah, I'm just not really sure what that's all about - it's almost as though someone captured the fragrance of a thrift shop - then decided to bottle it and market it to Saints. Slightly goofy smell aside, the rest of the decor at Saints is pretty neat; very retro, relaxed vibe that makes for a decent place to grab a drink and yet still be able to have a conversation at the same time.
They've got a decent selection of beers and plenty of liquors to choose from. Upon reading it directly off the menu - I asked for a Beefeater gin martini, at which point the waitress told me that they didn't have Beefeater - and then began to list off all of their vodkas. I was a little caught off guard, since it was listed on the menu, but I'm assuming she just didn't know what Beefeater was - so she upsold me a Hendricks instead. Well played waitress, well played...
We were there one other time and my girlfriend and I were debating whether the fruit behind the bar was a blood orange or a grapefruit - and since we couldn't agree (ever), we decided to ask the bartender... who didn't know either. Brilliant. Regardless, it looked appealing so we asked him to just make up a drink using the unidentified fruit as the main ingredient. Still not sure what the hell it was, or who was right for that matter (although I'd lean towards me, since I'm always right, obv.), but he made a solid drink: refreshing and light and I would definitely order it again if I knew what the hell it was. I believe it was just simple syrup, blood orange/grapefruit and some vodka? Who knows - but the outcome was impressive either way.
In terms of the food, we've only tried the half ploughmen - it's like a cheese and cracker platter, which was actually pretty good if you find yourself with a case of the munchies after a few too many adult beverages. But, for whatever reason (here's lookin' at you thrift-shop Scentsy), Saints just isn't really somewhere I ever plan on going for a full-on meal, not with the likes of the Mule directly across the street at least. But, if you need a decent place to grab a drink with a few friends / coworkers where you'll still be able to hear one another quite comfortably, Saints is a decent option.
Overall Grade: B
Nice little Irish Pub and Restaurant. Â They make some great mixed drinks with fresh squeezed fruit and a wide variety of good liquor, wine and beer. Â We enjoyed the top shelf Margaritas made to order and some corn beef sliders this week. Â Many other items on the menu still await our pallets. Â Great personal staff that are friendly and make you feel comfortable, welcomed and at home.
Review Source:I absolutely adore the Plaza District and Saints is the colorful cornerstone of this convection of characters that congregate here. Â If you enjoy fun (who doesn't?), a few drinks (who doesn't except you boring teetotalers), live music (again who doesn't but the deaf?), and good food (yes, that's subjective but it is pretty damn good) Â then find time to make the trek to Saints!
I find myself here often, usually as the start of what turns out to be an epic evening and I'm easily swayed by the siren song of my friends who lure me out, but as I'm fond of saying, a beer in hand is worth two in the fridge so out I go to Saints in search of fun - and it never disappoints! Â And no smoking too! Â I see the occasional dbag vaping but to hell with the smokers should be the Saint's motto - and I couldn't agree more!
Saints has all the offerings you would expect to find at an Irish bar from the ubiquitous signs saying "slainte" to Irish drinks and Irish food, albeit with a self-described "novel" approach. Â I'm not too sure how novel you can be with bangers and mash, but I don't often come her for the food anyway. Â It is good, but since the opening of The Mule, I prefer to eat there and then meander on over to Saints. Of course, as with most Irish bars in Oklahoma, there's absolutely no Irish people here (or very few) like you'd find back on the East coast and no Irish brogue to be heard but that's ok, isn't being Irish really a state of mind?
In addition to good food, outstanding drinks, stellar service and a laid back attitude, Saints plays host to a variety of local bands and oftentimes local resident Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips will be holding court or even guitarist Steve Drozd has been known to be in attendance tinkling the ivories of their piano. Â You just never know who or what you will see at Saints. Â Be forewarned that it can be crowded so come early or be prepared to stand. Â Parking is always a problem in The Plaza district but it is worth it. Â
When you're thirsty like a wolf and on a hunt down for a brew, check out Saint's - it won't disappoint and you'll be in touch with the buzz in no time in a modern take on a traditional Irish Pub. Slainte!
Check out their menu online before you go. It's very reasonably priced! It was very clean and they have a piano, darts, and half shuffleboard looking table, and some nice televisions. Very cool place to have a business lunch or just a relaxing time. They only have three beers on tap: Guinness, Harp, and Smithwicks, so don't plan on a large selection.
Portions arent big by any means, but the food was excellent. I had their most expensive entree, the $15 meat and vegetables. It was better than expected. Great part of the city too!
Saints is fun and very relaxed. I haven't tried their food yet but I like coming here for their extensive beer selection. I've tried some beers here that I've never seen anywhere else and their service is pretty great. It gets super crowded on the weekends and nearly impossible to get a table, so I'd suggest going on a weeknight to check it out. A modern version of the classic Irish pub.
Review Source:I like the decor, but I can't say that I ever leave with the intention of going back. Every time I've stopped in there are gnats in the front near the window. Not a deal breaker. My biggest issue is I went in one day, ordered a glass of pinot noir, and it was $6, then less than two weeks later, I ordered the same thing without looking at the menu, and was charged $15 per glass. It would have been nice for the waitress to let me know that the price had doubled since she never offered me a revised wine list. Anyhow, I would go again if someone invited me.
Review Source:Saints is located in the hip little area on 16th that draws a chill and young crowd. Â During the weekdays it is a nice quiet place to grab a beer and wonderful food. The laid back atmosphere allows for a good Thunder watch place and local bands. However during the weekend it can get a little too busy for what they can handle. Â That's honestly the only negative thing I have noticed.
It's a good spot for the young adult / college crowd.
I'm trying to be fare. I realize that there is a chance I just picked the wrong night with the wrong stars aligning, however my first experience at Saints was not good. I was taking my wife on a date and we wanted to try something new and interesting. It took about 3 trips around the block to find a parking spot. Once inside, no one greeted us or found us a table, which maybe is totally normal here...I'll give them that. Once seated, we waited about 15 minutes before anyone came by & asked what we wanted. I said, "a menu". After checking out the menus for another 10 minutes, we were ready to order. Still no waiter of any kind. Waited another 10 minutes and nothing. Maybe this is one of those places where you have to walk to the bar to get something. You know, it wasn't even busy. There were lots of empty seats and plenty of servers walking around with their tight pants and socks on their heads. I was honestly hoping to try some of their beer and food because they looked really good. They seem to have a decent beer selection. Eventually, we got tired of waiting and bounced. I might be willing to try it again, but there are plenty of other cool places to try that have good service.
Review Source:Don't know if I would classify it as an Irish pub but it was pretty close.
Food: great! Nightly special of braised pork, pork loin, bratwurst and mashed potatoes was excellent, filling and inexpensive.
Great beer selection as long as you're into real beer. Had the pleasure to witness the bartender tell an obnoxious hipster wanna be that they don't have bud light.
Service: awesome. Sat at the bar and bartenders took great care of me.
Definitely recommend for casual drinks and hearty pub fare, especially if you're looking to avoid the bricktown crowds.
This bar was fun! It has such a laid back atmosphere. Service wasn't the greatest since they get so busy so you end up being ignored until you get someone's attention. The biggest problem is trying to find a table. Depending on the time of night, there may be a long wait time before a table becomes available. There wasn't really a hostess so you were on your own when it comes to finding a place to sit.
Food is served from open until midnight. Prices ranged from $3-15 depending on if you get an appetizer or entree. They have a wide variety of alcohol like you would find at most bars. Prices are fair and comparable with other places.
Parking is really hard to find in the Plaza district. It can take a while to find somewhere to park and you'll end up walking quite a ways to get here. I love that Saints is smoke-free!!
I really like Saints. This place is as laid back as can be but it still has an upbeat feel to it. The collection of people that go to Saints is all over the board. I went on a Friday and then the following Saturday and it was as if I had gone to a different bar, judging by the difference in people. All around a lovable, friendly group of people no matter what crowd you are a part of.
Go get an Irish Coffee and enjoy some good food... Or go see how many PBRs you can carry at one time. This place works for either mindset.
Wow. What can I say about Saints..? I've never in my life experienced worse service. Spent half my time there just standing at the bar watching incompetent bartenders mess around and ignore patrons. By far the most frustrating bar experience of my life. I've NEVER taken the time to write a bad review for anything, but this warranted a response
Review Source:Patrick is hilarious!
Went in for a late lunch on a Saturday. Â I ate the clover...their veg sandwich. Â It came with beans and shrooms and some of the best smashed taters I've ever had. Â Mister had the meatloaf sandwich.
The cocktails were over the top and the bartenders are extremely helpful.
They even experimented with lavender lemon cocktail for me and a white truffle dirty martini.
We will be back.
No eats on my first trip but a beer just to check it out and kill a little time waiting on a lyric class to get out. Â Enjoyed the place and will return soon! Â Really nice addition to plaza dist....badly needed by the way. Â Â Glad to see most of the reviews are good. Â Met owner...very nice guy. Â Hopefully will be a nice success! Â Cheers.
Review Source:Love this bar! Â They have good food and the choices may stretch your expectations of bar food a bit, which is a good thing! Â The lamb and barley stew is great (made me feel good all over), the grilled cheese is amazing, and the clover is absolutely delicious. Â I have also had the shepherds pie (which didn't quite compare to my mum's, but you might like it) and the fish and chips which are good, not battered and deep fried, so you can actually taste the fish a bit more than I like :)
Great beer selection and sometimes the servers actually KNOW how to recommend a beer, which I find very rare indeed.
I love this neighborhood spot (yes there are all sorts a people here including children -and the service is not fast, they are actually cooking your food after you order it). Â I recommend it for any laid back person looking to kill a little time with good food, drink, and music - bring your family and/ or friends!
Saints, defined as a holy person of exceptional holiness usually associated with miracles, this little pub is a miracle worker turning conventional Irish Pub food into something out of the ordinary. They work small miracles here with common ingredients. Most of the world knows what Pub food entails, heavy filling foods, usually great for making a beer sponge with, Saints has turned that idea around and made a healthy and extremely flavor filled version of these favs. Don't get me wrong you can still find a plate of Bangers and a sheperds pie, but you can find those at any Pub in the world what seperates Saints is the dishes like the Smoked meat and Veggies, the Vegetarian BLT and yes even the fish and chips.
Lets start with the old standby, Fish and Chips, typically a deep fried and battered affair Saints has tunred that idea on it's greasy old head and made a piece of culinary excellence, while keeping that great flavor. Beginning with very clean, fresh Whitefish fillets which they do not, I repeat DO NOT batter and fry, instead Saints bakes these wonderful flaky fillets in an extremely light corn batter that is not a batter. Confused? You won't be after you try it, this batter i more like a light dusting than a heavy batter, wonderfully seasoned and cooked to perfection. Accompanied by roasted fingerling potatoes done to a perfect crispness, inside and out no mush taters here folks these have a great crispness to them inside and out. All this is laid on a bed of seasonal vegetables, in my case a sautee of Green Beans, Red Onions and Crimini mushrooms, sauteed in real butter and garlic to absolute perfection in every way.
My better half went with the small plates having Veggie BLT, yep that sounds like an oxymoron for sure but don't let that sway you away from them in any way or you will miss a great taste sensation. With Applewood, smoked field Mushrooms, a Basil Chiffonade (the capper of this dish and what makes it so special) topped with fresh tomato served on toast points with a Roasted Garlic spread, this my friends is the way to start a meal or as my wife chose to have as an accompaniment to another small plate. The Basil Chiffonade adds such a depth to this simple dish one could drown in it, and it's a small plate :)
The accompaniment to this my wife chose was Smoked Salmon Potato cakes, and Applewood smoked Salmon topped with sprouts laid on a wonderfully light Irish potato cake. Momma would be proud of these tater cakes let me tell ya, not over seasoned they blend with the Smoked Salmon to perfection with the sprouts adding a delightful crunch to the whole dish.
We finished the meal with the Apple Cake, with Cinnamon Ice Cream, all I can say is nom freakin nom. The cake itself is light and airy with a spiced apple baked in, as any apple cake, but the ice cream is the bomb that sets off your taste buds. Saints goes the extra mile and makes this homemade, yes no store bought, sittin in the freezer till ya scrape it out of the tub at Saints, yes you wait a bit but it's sooooo worth the wait. A light, creamy, Vanilla and Cinnamon Ice Cream that doesn't stop there, Saints adds in Maraschino Cherry bits, and though they don't list it and I didnt ask it tastes to have a hint of lemon zest that cuts through the richness and makes this bold dish so much more than just a dessert.
The menu is far from over, and will require several more visits of course, to sample dishes like the Clover a Gold potato with Avacado, Cucumbers and Clover Sprouts, or the Plouhmen a workin mans meal with smoked meats, cheese choice, marmalade and accompaniments or the Mustard baked Chicken Sandwich(my next victim).
Now this is a pub, and while we did not partake in alcohol, well not much at least, I did look over the cocktail, beers and spirits lists. A great beer selection for a small pub, a complete Scotch selectio with the usual suspects and to my surprise a couple of Japanese Scotches, a first for me in this city. Of course they have a great selection of Irish Whiskey as well and quite the Bourbon choice, for sure even the pickiest pallet can find a spirit to match the mood. The cocktails selection had some very original sounding blends I will have to try over several trips, of course, but they cound to have an experienced mixologist working behind the bar.
Follow saints on Twitter @SaintsOKC, check thier website Saintsplaza, com and like thier Facebook page as well, better yet pay them a visit in the revived Plaza District at 1715 NW16th. It's worth finding this miracle worker. Oh and if ya can get her ask for Sam, a perfect red headed Irish lass as a waitress to cap this experience off.
We went here for a late dinner and LOVED it. Â The food is excellent - you can tell they take pride in creating high quality meals. Â We were a little early before the bar crowd came in so it was fairly quiet and cozy. Â The decor is excellent and the staff was so helpful. Â We already have plans to return.
Review Source:I love this bar because...
- The jukebox on random is always playing my favorite songs. (lots of Violent Femmes)
- It's in my neighborhood. (which was much lacking in a good bar)
- They have a great selection of beers including a few local options on tap.
- Â I've been into sipping whiskey lately and they have an extensive collection.
- The food is like a little bit healthier version of normal pub style dishes, baked and not fired. (Try the roasted fingerlings or meat and vegetables)
- They have a great television for watching the Thunder beat LA on.
Above all it has a steady atmosphere that is comfortable and inviting.
I've always liked Plaza District, but I didn't love it until Saint's opened. Just like the neighborhood, Saint's hosts all different kinds of people from all different walks of life. We went on a Friday night a few weeks ago and found a few local musicians, a few Plaza regulars, a middle-aged couple on a date, a few young-cute-Gatewood-looking marrieds, and a host of college or post college kids, and of course, Mr K and yours truly. The music coming out of the jukebox was a great selection of fairly recent independent rock, the lighting was great and the game was on but not loud. The waiter looked cool and probably was a lot cooler than this old lady, but he didn't act too cool for school, just took good care of us.
We had the half ploughman plate, with assorted Irish cheeses, toast rounds, nuts, marmalade and grapes. We had three beers between us, and though I can't remember what we drank, I do know it took us a long time to decide because the well-curated selection offered many good choices. It was a little too loud for us to visit comfortably, but we could still hear each other, and the music was good so we didn't mind.
Other standouts on this menu are a healthy (healthier, at least) version of fish and chips and the molten Guinness cake. This is a really fun place to go with a group of friends, especially if you'd like to park, walk around a bit, do some shopping and then settle in for an evening of fun with good booze.
This was a rad place.
My friends took me here for my birthday. It's got kind of a San Fernando Valley vibe going. Trendy Southern California for sure.
I didn't try the food, it was mainly a "hang-out" and listen to music kind of place. Wayne Coyne (lead singer of the Flaming Lips) was there rocking out.....maybe that will paint some perspective on the atmosphere.
Nice staff, can be hard to get a table, so be ready to stand for a good little bit......The atmosphere is totally worth it though.
Pros
1 GREAT music (when i was there I heard the shins, St. Vincent and the rolling stones to name a few)
2 Plaza District
3 Un-characteristic of OKC
Cons
1 Rough to get a table
2 Hipsters can get annoying
3 Parking kinda sucks
Been here twice, had terrific experiences both times. My group and I were seated right away, served right away, and the food was spot on. Took no time at all for the apps to come out, which was surprising considering our group ordered 4 apps. The entrees were terrific as well. Great drink selection as well. The Porter they had off-menu last night was awesome. Great job by our server of recommending it.
The only downer I had about the food last night was the Guinness cake. In my experience, Guinness chocolate cakes are supposed to be very moist and rich. While our cake was so-so, it definitely was not rich and moist. I hope they'll fix that soon, because I'd love to try it again.
Great work, Saints. I'll keep coming back as long as I have experiences like last night.
It is about time that the bad assery of the Plaza District had a restaurant and bar. I can't remember exactly what I had but I know there was some bacon wrapped nonsense involved and the best scotch cocktail ever. They have been booking some great live music and the place is big enough to hold a pretty decent party. Brilliant use of taxodermy and plaid.
Review Source:Mediocre (at best) food, from a not very health-conscious menu, and it's slow even though not very busy. The place was full of screaming kids... I had to get a beer just to take the pain of waiting for the check. The place has a decent whisky list, if you don't mind drinking it next to a crying newborn! I'll probably give it another try in the evening, esp if the menu is different than the lunch one.
