Really enjoy this place for quick local sushi. Fresh, fast, and reasonable prices. In a very food populated area, I find this is the only really light option. Have gone many times and will continue to go. They have happy hour from 2-5 (which is why I'm giving only 4 starts ha ha because i wish it was till 5:30). Love the Chicago fire roll and shrimp crunch roll.  They also have great priced beno boxes.

"Mall food court" variety sushi.  Nothing special but when you've got less than an hour to grab a meal during the weekday, you can settle for this.  You could... I just haven't again.  The sushi is as good as getting the packaged stuff at Jewel.  In my opinion.

A single can expect to spend about twelve dollars with drink and tax.  I wouldn't suggest groups larger than four.  Weekdays it can get somewhat crowded.

Not good. This sushi is for those who dont know good sushi. It reminded me of those quick to-go boxes of sushi that you get from jewel. Very plastic tasting, no flavor and not very authentic at all. The White Castle of sushi; you know how you only eat white castle when you're drunk because its the only quick 24hr restaurant open. Ya, that was my experience here. Yuck, never again.

Definitely more of a quick fix sushi place. Got the white dragon...didn't like the weird mayo dressing on top the salmon and tuna were fine. The miso soup though was very good.

Terrific strip mall sushi! If in the O'hare area, try it. I had a Thai women bring me to a popular Lincoln Park sushi bar and it was good, only I paid twice as much for less food. Did not have to deal with parking in the winter at Sakura Sushi and it tasted better than the popular LP place.

Be careful. My teaching partner stayed at a hotel near here, had their sushi and about 3 hours later, was vomiting for hours after. He almost did not make it to our class the next day. Think twice before you go there. Maybe go for spaghetti or something somewhere else.

This place was awesome!!! We had a group of 4 and a groupon for $60 we tried a variety of things. The item that sticks out most in my mind is the curry rice OMG!!! Total mouth orgasm. It was delicious! I have been craving it ever since. I even tried to recreate it at home, but it was not nearly as good. We also tried several rolls, the spinach appetizer (yum-0) it tasted just like spinach artichoke dip!...we also tried 2 entrees. 1 drunken noodles and the other I can't remember. The drunken noodles were just ok. I wouldn't order them again from here.

Service was okay.  Not as fast as we expected for strip mall sushi.  The volume of the classical music was silly.  You can get better sushi at Whole Foods and possibly even Jewel or Dominicks.  I ordered two avocado and cucumber rolls with soy paper.  Mine was edible but nothing outstanding.  The wasabi was weak and I'm not sure why.  One of the guys that also came with ordered edamame.  Our conclusion was that it had a bad case of freezer burn before they steamed it, or possibly microwaved it.  Go look at the picture I added.  The only skin that should like that is a 70 year old man.  Edamame should give a happy little pop, if you listened closely you could hear "wah-wah".  The sushi that my friend got didn't look appetizing at all.  The other guy that went with us had chicken teriyaki which came with a gigantic mound of rice and iceberg lettuce aka salad.  He said the sauce was good and the meat looked good but the greenbeans came down with whatever the edamame had.  We won't be back.  Wah wah.

Used to come here all the time! The last time I was just here recently, there was all new people.  The sushi tasted different, and wasn't put together very well.  I guess it depends who is working.  Spicy Salmon, Shrimp Tempura, Shrimp Tempura Crunch, Godzilla rolls are my favorite.  Also love the Miso soup!

Decent sushi place for a quick, economical "Sushi Fix". Service is OK, depending on who is working, and prices are fair. Interior is basic, but clean and friendly.

Last meal was Unagi and a combination plate. Freshness was decent, and time to serve was not too long since everything was made to order. Drinks are basic soda fountain, and a selection of bottled drinks. We prefer the aloe vera drink (brand escapes me) as the flavor goes well with sushi.

Previous visits - teriyaki dishes are a bit too salty, and lack finesse. Come here for the sushi.

This is an okay place for sushi. If you're looking for high quality this is not the place to go. Since this place is much closer to home we have been here twice. Service and staff is great. Place is clean and pretty quiet. Sushi was good but not great. Price was decent as well, but as stated before this is not a high quality sushi place.

Still one of the best sushi places in town. Haven't been here in a few months but nothing's really changed. Except for the yummy bento boxes they now offer. And by yummy I mean OMG to die for delicious! For $10 I got more food than I knew where to start with including a fresh, steaming pile of rice, a large helping of salad with daikon, 3 california pieces and a whole lot of yummy tempura. Not to mention 2 white tuna and two tuna sashimi pieces, 2 salmon nigiri pieces and 2 fried dumplings. Needless to say, I have a very happy tummy.
I gave Sakura 5 stars last time, the only reason I took away a star was bc the wait for my friend's meal was so ridiculous the girl at the counter couldn't help but give him a 10% discount card for next time. Other than that, no complaints.

It's a solid little place for a quick lunch.  I've certainly had better, but for a middle of the workday lunch run, I'm pretty happy.

I really wanted to like this place but in the end I couldn't.  I was in Chicago for a business meeting and looking for a Japanese restaurant near my hotel for dinner.   This came up as the number one recommendation. I just started Weight Watchers and wanted to have something I knew would work point-wise.  So I ordered exactly the same thing I had eaten the night before in Des Moines, IA: edamame, unagi nigiri, yellowtail nigiri, and a tuna roll. Everything seemed like it was several days old. The sauce on the eel (unagi) was more like molasses.  I couldn't finish the tuna roll which was a first for me. The meal in very-land-locked Des Moines was far superior.  Overall, very disappointing.

As a first timer at this low key, semi-hard- to- find strip mall restaurant, I was impressed with the quality of the food and authentic dishes.  My dinner companion and I were greeted by a friendly, elderly japanese sushi chef.  We tried the Saturday night special sets on the back of the menu.

We were VERY pleased with our choices:

Appetizer:  Dragon roll-avocado, fresh water eel, shrimp tempura-Delicious crunch, lightly battered..we devoured it.

    Entrees:
Sushi set A-chirashi, bowl of udon, steamed egg, stewed veggies, pickled veggies.

Sushi set C-pork katsu, sashimi, steamed egg, veggies & pickled vegges (

generous sashimi portions (melted in your mouth!), friendly service, fresh food.  authentic experience.  casual atmostphere, cozy.  reasonable prices.

I took it as a good sign to see japanese people dining here.   paired with a foaming glass of sapporo (on tap)...stellar combination with the sushi.

We rolled ourselves out of the restaurant...with a happy japanese bon voyage by the elderly japanese sushi chef.  We will be back.

This was my first time coming to Sakura Sushi. There are huge posters outside of the store front displaying lunch specials and other menu items.  The rolls and combos are numbered on the menu. I ordered food to go and waited with my number... the wait was a little bit longer than I expected considering I ordered two rolls. I noticed other groups getting their food before me even though they ordered after?? That can be a little frustrating. Their idea of tempura is sprinkling something I would compare to bread crumbs on top...Overall, the food is good for the price. I would consider coming back here for the occasional quick lunch pick up.

I really enjoyed the sushi here! The price is very reasonable. I paid 1/2 the price for the same amount of sushi as other places. The dining area was very clean and organized. You can see the food prep area and that was very clean also. The sushi was presented very well, and tasted even better.
The employees are very courteous and friendly. I would gladly recommend this place to others.

This is fast food sushi. It is to sushi what Chipotle is to Mexican food. That doesn't make it bad--in fact, I haven't had an avocado roll here I didn't like. It just means that you are in for a different experience. If you want a date night sushi place, drive five minutes to Dotombori in downtown Des Plaines. You will get the atmosphere, service, and selection you expect from a typical sushi restaurant. If you want a quick lunch, though, Sakura is a good choice.

That said, it is usually very busy for lunch. Be prepared for a line. If you see an open table, try to get it as fast as possible, because it does fill up here sometimes. Don't show up at 12:30 on a friday with no idea what you want and hold up the line, because people will get irritated and you are likely to lose any seat you may have had your eye on when you arrived. Don't get worked up if they missed a grain of rice when cleaning the table--this is fast food. Expect that your soy sauce might be empty, and you will have to borrow some from another table during a lunch rush.

Also, on none of my visits have I noticed high chairs for kids or any booster seats. If you have kids, this might matter to you. I didn't ask if they maybe had one in the back, but even if they do, this is another delay that could cost you your table during a rush. If you have a kid who needs a booster seat, you should consider bringing your own.

One nice thing is that as hurried as they are here, the staff is on top of problem resolution. Once they made a mistake with my order and not only fixed it, but gave me an extra roll for free. It's nice to see that the fast food mentality isn't always as the expense of caring about the customer.

This fast food sushi joint gives all appearances of a local chain, at least it should be. If I were local I would try everything, it all sounds so good. I had oceans 3. It was so delicious it didn't need any additions, and I usually add a strip of the shaved ginger. The ginger has quite a kick and is stronger than most of what I'm used to. I took it to go. I love the aesthetic of the plate. You'll leave plenty full, they don't skimp on portions. My friend loved his miso soup so much, he got a large to go. My husband thought the shrimp teriyaki was great, he doesn't do raw. They  were smart to have a photo for almost every menu item. It fits the need of eat and run, don't need the show, just a good sushi roll.

Don't let the name fool you, this place does NOT live up to the name.

The food was ok...nothing outstanding for the price you pay.
The way you order is non-traditional in a sushi restaurant though; you order your food, get a number, and pick up your food.

COOK RAN OUT: The service  was unprofessional; the "chef", while creating a roll, suddenly ran from behind the counter to talk to a girl that walked by the window.
Then after the cooks were done they went outside, to the front of the restaurant to check out girls and to shoot-the-shit....I was appalled...I hope the owner does a better job of hiring cooks and I hope to never see that again again from a cook..

We all know that some of the best places to get sushi are in the city or at least not anywhere we live. I decided to try out this sushi place only because it was close to my area. They do have some tables outside set up which I noticed when I walked to the restaurant. Inside is a normal setting, Not really japanese feel inside aside from the couple of paper lanterns and japanese signs they have. There were a few people who were inside eating and ordering to go. I decided to get some rolls to go. They do have combo roll meals all day even though the sign says that those are lunchtime combos only. You can still get them anytime in the day. The staff is not japanese or asian at all. They were all hispanic which kind of took out some of the authenticity feel to this place.

I ended up ordering 1 combo meal which is 2 rolls then I ordered 1 individual roll. I got the spicy tuna and shrimp tempura rolls and then I ordered 1 philly roll. Price was expected for sushi although considering how average the sushi was, its definitely NOT worth the price. If you are like most people and like sushi for the taste then I wouldn't advise coming here. Its really real average sushi. Meh theres lots of better places. Also considering they took about 15-20 minutes I was expecting some tasty sushi. Nope. The shrimp tempura had NO TEMPURA in it and the spicy tuna wasn't spicy at all. The philly rolls were probably the best of the 3 rolls I had. Also the rolls are cut a bit bigger than what authentic real sushi is supposed to be in size. Their specialty rolls run about $9-12 dollars. They even offer a "Rosemont Roll" since this place is in the village of Rosemont. The sushi included only 2 little soy sauce packets and a little patch of wasabi and a small pinch of ginger. I needed more of everything.

They also offer bento boxes, miso and wonton soup. My favorites are the mochi balls because they do not make em themselves. They are frozen from a store and they are pricy. I think 2 balls were $4 while you can go to trader joes and get 6 for $5. eeek. They also have bbq and grilled chicken as well as soda, root beer and other sodas and water bottles. I would personally save my money, and if you have the time and patience maybe try a difft sushi joint than this one. I would only advise this place if you live in the area and have no transportation but if you have a car, try a different place. Seriously. Not many people in this place, long waits and mediocre sushi= a big waste of time and $$!! I love sushi and this place didn't impress me at all. The sushi wasn't terrible but Ive tried a lot of sushi joints and this one so far is the worst place to get sushi from, pricewise and tastewise. Really the trip isn't worth it.

If you're in a rush, this place serves its purpose. It is what it is, fast food sushi.

Personal preference though, it's not my thing. I only see myself returning with friends who are determined to get a quick fix of sushi on the cheap and don't mind disregarding the fact everything is drenched in spicy mayo or that the eel would have no flavor if it weren't for the unagi sauce.

Minus all of that, the service is fast and the staff is extremely friendly at this particular location.

This place truly is as another reviewer described it: "fast food" sushi. That doesn't entirely remove the chance of quality sushi, but you can imagine it's not quite up to standards in comparison to other sushi restaurants (depending on how experienced you are). Yet I actually enjoyed my visit here.

I only ordered two rolls: shrimp tempura crunch and spicy shrimp. The spicy shrimp rolls were very small, two put together could've easily been the size of a normal roll, but it was alright. The spice overwhelmed any other taste of the roll, which I didn't mind, but expected more from a spicy roll. The shrimp tempura crunch was good. It was warm with a flavorful taste. The sauce on top of the roll (I want to say was unagi sauce but I can't remember for sure) was really good.

The food was prepared very quickly which was nice, but again I feel that distorted the quality. The rice seemed like it wasn't as fresh as I'm used to, but the sauces made up for that I suppose.

The service didn't help. There was one man that I will assume is of japanese descent, and acted as what I imagine to be the head chef or owner, ordering the workers around and what not. He made the only real effort to be polite and make solid suggestions, conversation, etc. But the other workers (that made and served the food) either didn't acknowledge me at all or gave one-word answers with attitude. They also didn't give me any water or chopsticks to eat with. So when I was served, I was sitting at the table with the food in front of me, with no eating utensils or water. I was pretty upset about that and had to get up myself to get it.

But again, I can say I enjoyed this visit and like the place for what it is: a fast food sushi spot. I typically spoil myself with the higher end sushi joints so that may have put Sakura Sushi at a disadvantage, but, that's how it works. It gets two stars for being quick and moderately cheap. Loses stars for sub-par quality, lack of service, and short menu.

If you're in the area and need a quick sushi fix, I'd say it's okay to stop here if you're pressing for time. Otherwise, I won't be going out of my way to sit down for a big sushi meal here.

This is "fast food" sushi, but I really don't see much of a difference between this place, and a regular sushi bar.  Order your food, its made to order, and its brought out to you. I came here during their lunch specials which goes from 11AM-2PM, and ordered the following:

    L6 - Cali Roll (6), Tuna Nigri (2), Salmon Nigri (2); $7.99
    Gyoza; $2.99
    Miso Soup: $1.00
    Reg Drink: $1.39
total with tax was about $15.

Everything I had was very good, tasted fresh.  It was plenty good enough to want to come back, and try out some of there other menu  items.  Its also in a nice location.  There's plenty of parking, and if you want dessert go to Stone Cold Creamery next door.

I've been coming here for lunch every so often. I'm a creature of habit and usually get the chicken or beef teriyaki (which has been good for the most part). The teriyaki sauce can be a little 'thin' sometimes. Many of the rolls I've ordered have been okay - nothing above amazing, but satisfying enough during lunch hour. I think the miso is a little overpriced, though. I do like that they offer bento and also they have happy hour discounts after 3p!

I was so excited when this place opened because we lack quality, affordable sushi in the area. I've called in a few orders and ordered at the counter a few time but I would recommend calling ahead because it can sometimes take a while to get your order.

The rolls are extremely creative but they're creative enough for a strip mall sushi joint. The prices are great and the lunch combos are even better! I still end up spending $20-35 here most of the time but I feel like I get a lot of food for the price (3 rolls, nigiri, and tempura- which would probably cost double in the city).

If you want to go out and have the full sushi experience, than I would recommend going somewhere in the city but if you're in the area and want to sit down somewhere casual or get some sushi to go, than I definitely recommend Sakura!

Was looking for a replacement Sushi place in the area, for lunch time.
I've been here like 6 or 7 times so far, in a three week span :)

*I'm allergic to fish* so my specialty are vegetarian rolls...
Get two avocado/cucumber rolls w/cream cheese and rice on the outside. Must be a regular, because chef said "$6.65" and handed me my sushi before I said anything(didn't leave a number or my name)
This was one of the things that was a plus for me; custom ordered rolls.

Other pluses are the venue and staff - place your order at the register, take a number and have a seat; they will bring you your food to you. There is plenty of seating around lunchtime. Great place for lunch or dinner; bring friends or family.

Their sushi is very reasonable price. If you are looking for that high class sushi, this is not the place. But if your looking in Rosemont for a place to eat sushi, this is the best bar none... Enjoy!

I've only gotten takeout from Sakura Sushi a couple of times. It's decent sushi for the price and for the area. Yes, you order at a counter. You prepay and then you watch the sushi chef(s) dress your order of sushi rolls Subway style, minus all the inquiries of what else you'd like on the order.

Service is quick and courteous, and the place was never crowded when I've gone. More importantly, the fish has been fresh. I'll have to make this place a regular destination when I'm near the office.

    Fast food sushi?!?

My boyfriend and I were on a run and saw this place and decided to try it. We are loyals to our favorite sushi restaurant so we have high expectations.

A cute place for being around a strip of other restaurants and stores. A great variety of maki choices and good lunch combo deals. They have even have happy hour from 3-5p everyday with 20% off your entire order!

We ordered eel, crunch crunch, rainbow, and soft shell crab maki. Our order was made quickly and fresh (nothing was pre-packaged). The eel maki was probably my favorite, but it's so simple how can you go wrong? The crunch crunch... I can taste the mayo, that's a two thumbs down for me. Rainbow was okay, there was no shrimp, but the amount of fish on top was decent. The soft shell crab was pretty good.

A great sushi joint for those in a rush, but I've definitely had better. Definitely wouldn't mind going back to try their other makis.

This is a decent "fast food" sushi place. I work a few blocks from here and have been here about 5 timed. I really like their tamago and Philly rolls. The only issue I have is that I prefer my sushi a little more chilled. It's not hot or warm but I just like mine colder. I will definitely be coming back here.

All I can say is...I tasted better.

I had the chicken teriyaki for dinner and I think I had better chicken terriyaki...ahem(Joy's Teriyaki)ahem. Too much sauce and I'm not a big fan of ginger in my salad. The sushi was alright...it was not bad..tasted like sushi. As far as prices go, you get what you paid for. Service was excellent . Staff was very friendly. Clealiness was great. I liked the decor alot. Maybe next time I come here- it would only be for sushi.

I've been meaning to try this place for a bit since I saw it open up. The rolls are meh. Nothing spectacular.

One: the prices are pretty reasonable. They have a few lunch combos which is pretty nice.

Two: it's reasonably fast. You go there and just order and pickup/eat. Bus your own tray when you're done and voila. no waiters or tips! It's conveniently located in the plaza of mannheim/touhy. (next to coldstone)

Three: this may seem silly but they give sauce CUPS. anyone who's taken sushi out knows that is awesome... instead of the other places that provides 2 soy sauce packages that renders about 4 drops of soy sauce... and nowhere to put it so you have to balance your lid at a 45 degree angle to have a place for it to pool up enough to dip....

-1: the rolls were pretty eh...

-2: they use a lot of rice .

i'm going to try their teriyaki next time and see if it's better

TIP: lines can get a little long during lunch.
