This place is adorable! Me and my boyfriend went for our first wine tasting and this place was perfect! The people working (the owners, I believe), were very friendly, attentive and very enthusiastic to tell us about each wine. They also had a great selection of wines and other fun accessories to choose from!
Review Source:My husband and I have been coming here for close to 2 years and love every minute here!!! The owners are fantastic and are very knowledgable about the wines they serve. I've seen the negative comments on here and feel they are completely false!! Even the very first time we came, we had purchased a groupon and we were treated fantastic! This is such a fabulous small business and we love coming here! Bob and Heidi are the best owners! Wine is great and so is the company! This is truly a hidden gem.
Review Source:my 3rd time here. all have been wonderful experiences. The flights have been unique and well selected. The appetizers are fun and affordable, Â I wont go into a lot of details about each visit, but its cozy setting and the servers.and owners are helpful, attentive, cheerful and good LOCAL merchants. Â
Looking forward to getting over there when they have a nice relaxing music night,
We live one mile from Salt Creek Wine and didn't know about this place. We bank and shop in the center, we thought it was a place that just sold wine.
Saw a special in groupon and bout a flight for 4, was excited to see they did tastings. We brought 3 neighbors ( couples) with us who are very in to wine who did not know about this place. We were excited to treat our friends and neighbors and turn them on to a fun new place.
I called ahead of time Friday afternoon, explained we had a groupon and were coming in, when is the last tasting. The female owner said 8 pm. We arrived 7:57, walked in and it was very clear they ere not happy to serve us.The female owner pointed out it was past serving time, but they would serve us. I said, gee I thought your last serving was 8 pm and she pointed out it was after 8. Actually it was 8 sharp.
The white selection did not contain one Chardonnay. I wondered if they served special wine for groupon users. The owners pours were markedly under generous and didnt care when we gently teased about it.The snack was pretzels. When we came in the owner said we could order hot appetizers, then when we tried to they said, "too late"....The hosts attitudes were cool to rude. I told them we lived one mile away and had never heard of them and they said, yes they hear this often, I was just trying to strike a little conversation.....there seemed to be no interest in wanting us to return, even though our age group was 50-65 yrs and our group of people were all very nice. Had we been treated kindly they would have had regular customers...our friends had been regulars at a wine tasting place by Whole Foods, that had closed down....what a shame.
There was one young lady server whom was warm and cheerful.
My husband and I were embarrassed as we hosted this outing.
I feel sad for the owners....what a shame to let their bad attitudes make new customers uncomfortable and unwelcome. Needless to say, we are unimpressed.
The evening ended well as our friends turned us on to a great place to eat called "LJ's" in the Albertson's shopping center, great food and service, we will definitely return!!
I gave one star because we all made the best of the situation, and our group is a stellar bunch....great neighbors and friends.
Never knew about this place until I did a search for "wine tasting" on Google, and so sorry I didn't do this earlier.
SCWC is surprisingly large with a long modern looking wine bar, and plenty of square footage inside of retail wine, and feels very open and bright inside. Â Staff was very friendly, and the day that I went there was a rep from an Argentinean wine company that was handing out free Sangria samples.
I chose to sit at a small barrel table and was immediately approached despite a full bar or 'regulars'. Â Somewhat large wine menu, including various varieties of "flights" and reasonably priced. Â An 'appetizer' menu listed increasingly larger fruit/cheese/cracker platters alone with other goodies. Â I opted for a grape/cheese/meat platter and a flight and was glad I did. Â It had some very unique, creamy and delicate cheeses along with a very flavor-able honey concoction. Â The flight itself was 5 generous pours
I learned that they have weekly 2-hr tasting events, generally $20 in cost (on average), and some fancier (and thus more expensive one on rarer occasions). Â They are closed on Sunday and Mondays though. Â I happened to go on a Friday, after work and was completely comfortable,
In addition to the wine and cheese, they also make up gift baskets and other retail items as well.
A large lot outside allows for plenty of parking.
Amazing I hadn't heard of this before...seems they keep the advertising down as I've lived in teh area my whole life and never heard of them before...which may be a good thing as the place is just the right size and not over-crowded.
Did a tasting here one evening. Â Good time. Â Nice platter of cheese, meats, nuts and damn good mango honey. Â Our wines were good and each tasting was a quality pour. Â My only complaint would be that the wine shop was a little marked up. Â Several bottles I noticed were well above what you'd pay at BevMo and other spots. Â They also carry wines you may not find at those places as well. Â Regardless, I'd do another tasting evening here.
Review Source:I went to the Salt Creek Wine Company through a livingsocial deal with a friend from out of town. Â I was a little skeptical at first since the location was a bit hidden and out of the way. Â Fortunately for me, I found this lovely location.
The pours were very generous and the owners were lovely to speak with and very knowledgeable. Â They made the evening an experience rather than just a simple wine tasting, which it easily could have been. Â As part of the deal, my friend and I were given a gourmet snack plate with an assortment of breads, cheeses, nuts, and dried fruit. Â The honey was so delicious, I wound up purchasing a jar (and a few bottles of wine).
Overall, this was one of the best wine tastings I have ever had the pleasure to attend. Â The location is small and a bit hard to find, but with excellent service, friendly clientele, and exceptional wine and deals. Â I will definitely be back with more friends!
Salt Creek Wine Company a horrible experience! Â Bob the owner booked my reservation for Saturday 2/11/2012 at 6:30, Â we took another couple with us and we arrived at 6:30 the place was closed for a private event! Â I spoke to Bob the owner, he said this is a private event and said he never booked my reservation! Â He was rude and unprofessional. We will let everyone we know about this bad experience and keep going to our favorite wine place WineWorks in Mission Viejo.
Review Source:I did a wine tasting with a friend here thru a living social deal that I bought and it was well worth every penny and more!
There were 5 pours, I really enjoyed 4 of the 5 wines that I tasted and the lady who poured the wine gave very generous pours. She was knowledgable about the wines and not pushy or trying to sell anything to us.
The tasting came with a cheese plate that had 4 different cheeses, nuts, crackers, and the most amazing mango flavored honey.
I left with a jar of the mango honey and 2 of the wines I tasted.
I highly recommend this place and would come again. It is a good place to spend a lazy afternoon with a friend or take your significant other out on a date.
Two words... Hidden gem!
Wine tasting date night with hubby was a hit! Â
When we arrived at 6:15 pm, 15 minutes early for our 6:30 reservation. Heidi greeted us and indicated that we should be seated shortly. We were given the menu http://www.yelp.com/biz_….
Shortly after we were seated Heidi poured the first of 5 wines. Starting with the Rock Hollow Sauvignon Blanc 2009. Shortly after Bob greeted us with the cheese platter http://www.yelp.com/biz_…. Hubby does not normally like cheese, believe it or not since he loves wine. The only cheese he did not like was the sharp cheddar. This was one of the best platters we have been presented with at a wine tasting to date. Â
The Private Label Chard 2010 was not my cup of tea. Â I am White Burgundy drinker and this was ok. Â
Rabid Red 2006 was an acquired taste. Â
Peirano Estate Six Clones Merlot 2009 was not bad.
Lastly the Organic Vintners Zinfandel 2007 was surprisingly good with a lovely bouquet.
It was a great start for the first weekend of 2012.
Service - 5 Stars - Friendly and warm even though it was quite busy.
Ambiance - 4 Stars - we sat in two stools at the end of the bar area which was lower for the handicapped. Â Felt rather awkward in two chairs without backs, nowhere to hang a coat or purse.
Not quite sure we will back on a popular night like a Friday...
Great to have this place in our neighborhood.
I purchased a living social deal for a wine tasting for two. I was turned away twice by the owners who were very rude about it. The first time I called to make a reservation for 6:30 pm on a Thursday night. The gentleman who answered the phone said that it wasn't busy and to just come in. He said he had been inundated with calls for reservations. We arrived at 6:30 pm and was turned away because they closed at 7 pm and that wasn't enough time to do the tasting. Why hadn't the gentleman told me this when I had called and requested a 6:30 pm time? And really, you can't do a tasting in 1/2 hour or stay open for an extra 10 minutes to accomodate us? The second time we came in was a Friday night. We walked in and it was very busy. The owner said that it would be a twenty minute wait and acted like she wanted us to leave. We said we would wait, as we were not going to come back a third time. Finally one of the workers noticed we were just stading there and said we could do the tasting just standing up, which we were fine with. Then I mentioned that we had the Living Social deal and the owners came up and said we could not use it as it was a special event night. No where on the deal did it say there was black out nights. I told her that this was the second time I have tried to use it and we drove 20 minutes out of our way, and told her the story of how we were turned away the first time. They did not care at all. The said they had posted on their website that they were not accpeting the deal this night. Really, how often do you check a store's website before going into a store or restaurant? I was apalled by the lack of customer service and accomodation I will be contacting Living Social to get my money back.
Review Source:LOVE IT! The owner was so helpful & unpretentious. I'm an aspiring wine aficionado, and I can't begin to describe how interested and thankful I am when someone explains flavor profiles to me without being snotty or dismissive. We found a great red that worked perfectly with our Chinese take out, surprisingly enough. I wish every wine bar experience could be this great. They even have wine tastings & live music! A fabulous addition to South County.
Review Source:I took my girl friend here for her birthday and we had a great time. The owners Bob and Heidi are very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines and what to expect when you taste them. Â There was live entertainment that night, and it was just the right mix of music and still being able to hold a conversation.
