After reading mixed reviews, my wife and I were a little scepticle about coming here for breakfast at the recommendation of our vet. Â The staff was friendly and attentive. They had someone constantly filling our coffee. Honestly it's a good thing but it throws off my creamer/sweetener to coffee ratio! Anyway, we ordered a corned beef skillet and the German pancake to split. Â The skillet came first at our request because the German pancake takes 45 minutes to cook. The skillet was good. A little bland but still good. The hash browns were the only disappointment at all. Â It was just raw potatoes put in the skillet and cooked with everything else. The had no color or much flavor. Â Also, regular pancakes (or toast) came with it as well. The pancakes were very good. These are a must when here for breakfast. Â The German pancake came out much later. It is HUGE! Â Kind of like a giant popover, except doughy in the center. It comes with lemon, butter, powdered sugar and syrup. Honestly, simple is best. A little butter, lemon and powdered sugar was great! Â The rest will be going back home with us!
Review Source:Tasty pancakes and oversized omelettes, but service is sometimes "iffy"... at the breakfast rush times, it can be difficult to get a table and table service can be slow. On a busy Sunday morning after waiting a bit to be seated, I ordered a skillet and asked for no mushrooms... when it came after a while, it was piled with them. BUT that happened only once.
Review Source:Went here for a morning breakfast with my girlfriends family. Â I love breakfast but just dont have a good appetite early in the morning but this place changed it.
I went with the skirt steak eggs benadict . Â When asked how I wanted my steak I said medium not really expecting much since most breakfast places will ask even though they will cook it the same each and every time. Â
When I got it and sliced the steak I was SHOCKED.... It was cooked perfectly.... hard to cook out the chewiness in a skirt steak but they nailed it..... I knew a nap was in my near future. My hash browns were cooked well done as I asked and the service was prompt and friendly.
If youre in the area in need of a breakfast fix I highly recommend
I'm rating on the breakfast only- as that's all I've had.
Went there at a peak time on Sunday morning. This was first time there, so when I saw the crowd waiting for a table and the modest sized dining area, I was going to come back another time. Hostess said it would be about 20 minutes so we decided to wait it out, and it was 15 minutes before we were seated. Ordered poached eggs and their Italian French Toast. Their poached eggs were cooked perfectly, something I appreciate as I've had overcooked eggs too often. Their Italian French Toast is what other restaurants usually refer to as strawberry stuffed french toast. This was done with a standard thickness bread, with mascarpone spread between the slices (3 in all) and fresh strawberries sliced over. A surprising addition of texture was crunchy granola on top as well. I appreciated that this was not as sweet as most others, and I loved the addition of granola. The only complaint is that I would have liked just a bit more strawberry. Probably one additional strawberry sliced was all that was needed.
Overall the service was quick and pleasant. I thought the hostess was very nice and apologized for the wait when seating us. Coffee came right away and order shortly after. I do plan on returning to try their pancakes.
I'm a big fan of breakfast food... especially skillets that make me "happy full" where there is just enough food to make me full, but not overstuffed. This place does a fantastic job of that for my appetite.
The servers I've had so far are cheery and converse with you and don't look annoyed if you start a conversation with them (trained well or part of their personalities? - take your pick). The food comes out fast (we usually order off the breakfast menu). This time around I had the Rocky Mountain Skillet and opted for toast instead of pancakes.
I've only gone a couple of times, and didn't have to wait either time. But when I pass by this restaurant during its peak hours, the parking lot is always full. That's a good sign.
I might be biased coz the hubby knows the owner but i'll be impartial as much as i can. We always go here for brunch if possible, prefers this over Brunch cafe in Roselle due to their portion sizes. Pancakes are substantial, crepes are yummy and for me, i always go for bacon! The service has left something to be desired....
Review Source:I'm surprised to see some of the negative reviews of Savoury because I was under the impression that everyone loved this place. For starters, it's always crazy busy on the weekends, but beyond that, I've always had good experiences eating here. It maintains that family-owned restaurant feel by being just that- family owned. The service is great and I always see the same people working there. The breakfast is killer and the pancakes are some of the best I've had. The reason I'm giving this place four stars though is because their lunch pretty much sucks. Every sandwich I've had here has been bland and dry. Granted, I've only had a few so maybe I shouldn't rule the entire lunch here out. I've had a pretty decent pulled pork sandwich though.
Overall, great staff and if you stick to the breakfast, you'll be fine.
Okay so as busy as this place is all the time I guess I expected more. The sign in the window said they were "nominated" for best breakfast in Chicagoland. I guess that makes sense since anyone can be nominated, but to win is another thing. As far as I am concerned, this place is not the winner.
Nice atmosphere, table service was okay, not great. I had the pancakes. They were just okay, nothing special. My friend had the chorizo quesadilla. It was okay, but kind of lacking on the "stuffings". Â Check out would have been more enjoyable if the cashier/hostess had actually acknowledged me instead of yakking it up with two of her co workers who obviously had nothing better to do than to keep her from being courteous to the customers. All in all, not bad, but rather ho hum. I would rather go to the Egg Basket...
Not cool, Savoury.
I didn't want to knock this restaurant down to three stars, but they have earned it. Â I have been here at least once or twice a month since my initial review. Â While they have retained their "ok" rating with me, some things have definitely gone downhill.
Now there are certain things I really do like about them (they take reservations when you have big parties (sometimes we have 9 or 10 people) and they are nice about bringing out extra plates for our kids.
But something I cannot look past is this: Â I bought a http://restaurant.com gift certificate a few months ago with the intent to bring the whole family here for my mom's birthday (a Sunday) this February. Â There were NO limitations on this $100 certificate when I bought it. Â So you can understand my disappointment when I arrived a couple weeks ago to see a sign on their door saying that "they are no longer accepting http://restaurant.com certificates on the weekends" starting the previous week.
Wow. Â As a business, going forward you can make limitations, but you should have honored the ones that had already been purchased for what the purchaser bought it for.
Poor business practices.
Came here to meet an already seated, ordered, party of 4. Â We came in at the end of the rush. Â Wish they had the foresight to re-seat us when we got there, the chairs at the end of the table in front of the bathroom doors was annoying. Â
Food was great though, so I'm told, and I cant wait to eat here myself :D
The husband and I have been here three or four times now, all on weeknights. We've both ordered different breakfast items for our dinners. The first few times everything has been either great or ok: skillets, pancakes, and toast all perfectly cooked, and service either wonderful or ok.
Tonight's service was again fine, but the food was not so great. We both ordered skillets and the hashbrowns were mushy and barely cooked. Our eggs were perfect, but the ham in my skillet was different than I've had in the past...salty and mushy instead of firm and moist. My husband's pancakes were undercooked and doughy.
We'll definitely give Savoury another chance, but be aware that it's hit or miss.
PS - Our table was in view of the back area and what I assume was an office or storage area...I wish the owner(s) would keep the area clear of clutter so that it looks cleaner.
I've been coming to Savoury for breakfast for a few months now. It's my new regular place for breakfast and I'm very happy with it in every way. Â The food is very good, the servers are wonderful, I like the room, and they have plenty of 4-top booths, which I prefer. The people really make the difference and the staff at Savoury is generally very interested in providing great service, making sure everything is to your liking.
Review Source:We travel fifteen minutes further to a competing restaurant every weekend. Â This should tell you enough. Â Service is spotty, the bill is always wrong (usually over charged for kids menu items). Â Quality of food is not that great. Â I get the impression that cheaper, lower quality ingredients are used. Â For example, the bacon is very thin. Â Also, the coffee is ok, but service not good enough to keep the cup filled. Â We will return once or twice a year since it is located so close to our home and we like to keep our business local, but I would not hesitate to go somewhere else.
Review Source:I have been to this place a number of times and it is pretty good. I normally get the Southwest Omelet which has a generous helping of chorizo, tomatoes, onions, cheese and avocado. I also tried the Gyro skillet which was surprisingly good, except not too sure if the feta cheese really worked too well with the combination. My comments on the coffee would have to be nothing because they dont really do anything too special, but nothing bad either.
The service was very inconsistent for me. I've always gone on days where it has a nice handful of customers and I would either receive a lot of attention from our waitress or often be forgotten and have to wait an extra 15 minutes to get our check. Also when the busboy cleans up the dishes, I dont think he's aware that throwing the dishes ontop of each other makes a loud noise, because it becomes very loud and annoying.
My first trip here was good but the second not so much. Â They have very good stuffed French toast which I had the first time around. Â This time I had skirt steak eggs Benedict - the steak was cooked properly but tasted burned and charred which overpowered the taste of the dish - very unfortunate. Â Additionally, the hollandaise was very bland. Â The front window boasts that it was "nominated best breakfast in Chicagoland area". Â I might agree on my first visit but this second time around....not so much.
Review Source:Food: My aunt and I split our breakfasts
Eggs Benedict--the poached eggs were overdone and the hollendaise sauce was bland. Insert sad face because I love eggs benny.
Southwest Omelet--a delicious dish with chorizo, jalepenos, tomatoes, onions, cheddar and avocado (how they didn't mush the avocado is beyond me!) Soooo good, very flavorful, nice spice. Â Very well made. Insert smiley face here.
The omelet comes with a side of buttermilk pancakes--I found them pretty basic, nothing special. Â Insert Meh face here
Coffee--weak. Insert really sad face here.
Service: Â Our server was friendly, helpful and on point. Â I appreciated the host helping us decide which booth would be better for us since we brought le bebe in his baby carrier.
Setting: Open and modern. Â Stone tiles, large windows, comfy seating.
Conversations carry so it can get a bit loud at times.
My wife and I try to patronize local businesses whenever possible. We live in Barttlett and we hate fast food places, so we were happy to see Savuory open up.
After eating at Savoury on several occasions, I would say that it is good, but not great. We were unimpressed with the quality of dinner, but breakfast is good. The pancakes are particularly good. Too many restaurants serve tasteless dessicated disks and call them pancakes, but not Savoury. Their pancakes are very good.
The service leaves a little to be desired. It isn't necessarily bad, but it feels like the staff is just going through the motions and with little enthusiasm. I don't like a bunch of super fake happiness and flair either, but I am just not feeling appreciated.
The popularity of this place has grown over the years and they are always packed on Saturday and Sunday mornings when I like to go as well.
In summary, I will continue to go back for the pancakes, and keep my expectations low about the service.
I've been here for breakfast twice, when it's my turn to visit my friend in her hood. The place is cute, always super busy on Sundays. Coffee is good, food is OK. On both visits we were completely rushed. About one minute after we sat down, our waitress came over and asked us if we were ready. Um, no we haven't evened opened the menu, so let's start w/coffee. Great. As soon as our coffee was served, we were asked if we were ready yet. So we placed our order, food was out in about 7 minutes, and our check was placed on our table before we were finished eating! She must have come back twice to ask if we were done or if we needed anything else. This happened BOTH times we were there. I get you're busy, and by no means did we plan on staying hours to sit and chat, but I thought it was completely rude to rush us through our meal. We'll be looking for a new breakfast joint next time.
Review Source:This is a breakfast review. Â I was in search of yummy waffles- soft with just a hint of crispness (not overly crispy.) Â These fit the bill! Â They were perfect. I was very satisfied. Â I tasted hubby's pancakes- outstanding. Â Very friendly service. Â Some people are just way too petty and anything short of being bowed to and curtsied to they are just not happy.
Review Source:Attention Bartlett Residents & Passer-byers! Â I am upgrading Savoury to four stars! Â They have earned it.
After living in the area for almost a year, I find that we continue to visit Savoury on a pretty regular basis. Â The food has now delivered on that "WOW" that I was looking for from my local haunt. Â Everyone that I have sent and/or brought in has been pleased with their meals. Â
Even going in around 8pm on a Thursday evening, we were greeted by one of the friendly owners and promptly seated. Â The food was hot and fresh. Â Even the soup was steaming (which is a major plus in my book). Â My son continues to stick with his Nutella Crepes and cleaned his plate tonight. Â I tried the skirt steak sandwich. Â I am SOOOO glad that I did! Â The steak was cooked to medium as requested, it was seasoned just right and the onion rings that I ordered on the side came out crispy without being overcooked. Â As usual, the rice pudding was the perfect end to my dinner.
Savoury has fine-tuned things and made the entire experience one that I care to repeat over and over. Â Maybe I will see you there!
At first my wife and I fell in love with this restaurant. Â The food was great and the place looked much better than many restaurants. Â With time, though, the place started to not taste as good as before and we both felt it was overpriced. Â The food is decent but the prices are a bit high for the quality that is served. Â There are many better restaurants that are within driving range. Overall I would recommend going to Barrington, Schaumburg, or Saint Charles if you are going to spend the money. Â The menu is too limited and food is merely OK.
Review Source:This is a hard restaurant to review. I've had two or three breakfasts here, and two or three sandwiches for lunch. I would give it 2 stars for the lunches I've had, but 5 stars for the breakfasts.
The sandwiches have been, by and large, disappointing. The bread has been soggy, the fries cold once and stale the other time, and the ingredients, not all that great.
So when I go here now, I get omelettes or skillets with pancakes. There's a giant sign on the front of the store that claims that Savory was nominated for best breakfast in Chicago. After eating there a few times, I believe it.
The eggs are always cooked to perfection, whether scrambled on the side or in the omelette. With skillets, the hash browns are cooked just right and crispy on the outside. The pancakes have the distinct tang of buttermilk. They use a good quality cheese and wonderfully fresh vegetables in the omelettes.
You may have to season some of the food yourself, but it's better for you to control that part of the dish, anyway.
Definitely visit Savory, and definitely stick with its strength: breakfast food.
My boyfriend and I ended up here last night for dinner when we were disappointed to find the Creaper-ia next door is closed on Mondays. Â
I have been to Savoury before for breakfast on a busy weekend morning and it was great; fast service, good breakfast food. Â Last night it was moderately busy, I would say about a third full. Â We got breakfast food for dinner, our server was very attentive, food was good. Â
I can see where people say the food is bland, it doesn't seem like they add salt to their food. Â Since that is how I cook at home, I appreciate it. Â You can always add if you want, you can't take it out. Â I will say, their pancakes are awesome, the best I've had at a restaurant.
We will be back!
I've only had breakfast food here but both times, it was excellent! The place is always filled up even during weekday brunch times. I've had the crepes here twice and they are sooo good. I've also had the Vegetarian Omlette which comes with pancakes! The portions are fairly large and I've never been able to finish most of what I order.
The servers are super-friendly and atmosphere is very comfortable. It's a great place to eat and enjoy a great conversation with good company. I brought two of my close friends here and it's fun to just sit in the booth, eat, drink coffee and talk.
Will definitely keep going back!
I've read some of the reveiws for this place and I am shocked that people actually like this joint.
I've gone here several times with my family to get dinner and only once have I been here for their Breakfast. Usually for dinner I stick to their burgers which are pretty good, but you defintely can get better else where. Their fries are steak fries which are very potatoey
(if that's a word, haha). But I must say they have very good soup which comes with the meal.
As for the breakfast, I ordered an omlet and my 2 friends I went with ordered eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. My friend ordered her eggs overeasy and they brought out half cooked eggs, and all of our hashbrowns were saturated in oil and not even cooked. As for my omlet the waitress put it down infront of me and it literally fell apart. It looked like a bunch of scrambles eggs mushed together to create the appearence of an omlet. I had maybe 2 bites out of it and couldn't eat anymore..it just had no taste to it. I brought it home hoping maybe someone would eat it after paying $9.00 for it. My mom was the unlucky one to eat most of it that morning. The next day she got violently sick and was throwing up for a week after eating that omlet. After that, nobody I know has gone back since.
We'll stick to The Nest, thanks!!
I really want to like this place since it's so close to my house but they sure do make it difficult. I know I'm picky, I'll be the first to admit it, but in this economy they should be a little more aware of their guests' needs and be attentive.
Strike One: Â October-ish. Â Went there alone since my husband was out of town. Â Was treated like an inconvenience by the host staff. Â They were busy helping couples and families and didn't seem to want to even acknowledge that I walked in. Â Food was good, but who cares about that when you don't feel welcome.
Strike Two: Â December. Â Decide to give it another shot, this time with my husband. Â Again, FOH staff not that friendly - sorry we're inconveniencing you by asking for a table! Â Water and tea refills really slow. Â Breakfast okay, but again who cares when you don't feel welcome.
Strke three: Â husband home sick. Â I called to see what soups they had so I could place a take out order. Â Person who answered phone tells me the soups of the day and literally hangs up - doesn't say 'thank you', 'would you like to place a take out order', 'screw you', NOTHING. Â Hangs up on me!!!
You're out!
Very nice atmosphere... HUGE portions... good price.
My girlfriend loves this place. We can actually share one meal and leave the place full. Our favorite is the steak skillet. We usually go on the weekends, but the wait isn't usually long at all. The pancakes are nice and fluffy too and the wait staff is very good.
So, I discovered this place when I was invited to breakfast right after Columbus Day with my in-laws and their friends who live in the area.
I wanted to try their version of the apple pancake then, but didn't have enough time to do so. Â My husband and I sat down to our first meal at Savoury Restaurant and Pancake Cafe.
This place has not been in the Bartlett area for very long, but it seems to do well. Â We went both at breakfast time (9am-10am) and at dinnertime (5:30-6:30). Â The place seemed to fill up nicely after 6pm though, so, the food must be good.
They say that you can tell the caliber of a restaurant by their breakfasts, if they serve them, so, off we went into our breakfast adventure.
So, I had their "Nutty Banana French Toast", which was very nicely done. Â The thick slices of bread and the dusting of powdered sugar, maple pecan syrup drizzle, and fluffy french toast was very delicious.
I also had some eggs (sunny-side up), applewood smoked bacon, and hash browns. Â Their hash browns were well done, not burnt or underdone, but just right. Â The eggs were done exactly how I would expect them to be and the bacon was crisped up nicely. Â I just had some white toast, which was toasted perfectly.
I ended up taking the french toast home with me for later.
The second trip to Savoury happened soon after the first. Â Since, I had not tried their Large Apple Pancake, I decided to have breakfast for dinner today. Â I ordered what I ordered last time, but the apple pancake instead of the french toast. Â
The Large Apple Pancake took 35 minutes to cook and I was really looking forward to it. Â I had finished my eggs and bacon portion of my meal, which was still as great as I remember it from last time. Â
When the Large Apple Pancake came out, it didn't look like I would expect.... Where was the sickenly sweet, cinnamon-sugar glaze on top? Â Where were the sweet apple slices (they ended up rather tart/sour)? Â Where was the CAKE in this apple panCAKE? Â There was none...only an omelette and the bottom was burnt pretty badly. Â It mostly looked like it hadn't been flipped over cause after tearing my fork through it, much like Gordon Ramsay inspects a dish from any other chef, I found there was no cake component in this supposed pancake. :( Â I flipped it over to taste a little bit of the cinnamon-sugariness I had been spoiled by places that do Apple Pancakes justice like Walker Bros Pancake House in Arlington Heights or Richard Walker's Pancake House in Schaumburg.
I was very disappointed and let my disappointment be known by telling my server how I didn't enjoy it at all and didn't want to take it home with me. Â She ended up taking the apple pancake off our bill, so, I will give kudos to the management for their customer satisfaction in their food. :)
Despite the apple pancake let-down, the service was great. Â Drinks refilled regularly and our breakfast-for-dinner meal was overall pretty darn good. Â Bathrooms are nice and clean and the restaurant decor and ambiance were like most pancake houses I've been in.
Would I return to Savoury Restaurant and Pancake Cafe? Â Sure, it's close, and its breakfast rocks so far! :) Â I haven't had any of their other non-breakfast items yet, but I will eventually.
Definitely check it out for breakfast, but maybe NOT the Apple Pancake.
I would definitely suggest Savoury if you are looking for a pancake house that is more than a pancake house. Â Their diversity of food has made this a family favorite of ours. Â I must admit that the others in the family absolutely love this place, while I also enjoy going. Â It is a great place to calm down and enjoy some good food.
Review Source:I thought this was an Italian restaurant at first...mainly because before I saw the place, my sister called it "sah-VOR-ee", completely throwing me off. Â The wait was a little longer than we were told, but it was a Saturday morning, so it was pretty busy. Â Once our order was taken, though, our food came FAST (though we did only order two dishes).
I had one of their specialties, the corned beef skillet. While it was a little lacking in corned beef and was loaded a bit much with hash brown, it was still tasty, and big. The pancakes that came with were fluffier than at other places, but I still didn't finish 'em (not a big pancake fan, personally). My mom, however, helped finish off what I had left. My sister and mom liked the southwestern omelet they shared, but I didn't hear any outstanding praise for it.
The place is new, clean, and bright. Â The employees were a bit curt, but it's hard to complain when the food comes out so quickly. Â I'm just happy that there's another local place in Bartlett to go for food (along with Dogfather and TL's).
I'm always in search of a good neighborhood breakfast cafe. Savoury is probably one of the better establishments in the area. I've eaten at enough dives in the area to realize that this is a hidden gem. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, the food is very good and the price is very reasonable.
For instance, for $6.49 you can get a huge omelet that comes with hash browns and toast or pancakes. The omelet itself is excellent. I consider myself a hearty eater and I have yet to finish one of their omelets.
For the steak and egg lovers, they have a good sized portion of meat for this manly breakfast classic.
If you come on the weekends, expect a wait. You'll be competing with the church-goers coming out and the locals for seats.
An average family-style restaurant. The building is in a newer, modern strip mall type setting. Inside, the decor was simple, warm and up to date (earth tones, wooden floor, stone tiles). Â A large, flat panel TV screen hangs overhead on the far wall which was tuned to a sports station and visible to most of the restaurant.
Food was good. The Cinnamon Raisin French Toast had a little too much egg coating for my preference, but it was still good. Their Tex Mex panini was pretty tasty (chicken breast, avocado, cilantro, scallions, red peppers, monterrey jack cheese). The service was friendly.
Their menu features breakfast entrees, but also has a section with lunch and dinner options (salads, steaks, seafood, Mediterranean entrees, paninis, sandwiches). They also have a kid's menu section.
Savoury is west of the Bartlett Metra station, a little less than a mile down on West Bartlett Road (aka Railroad Avenue).
