This place was ok! The drinks were weak and poured wrong. I had to send my drink (rum and coke) back twice before the bartender got it right! Who messes up a rum and coke--go figure. The manager came over and gave me a complimentary corona for my trouble, which was awesome, but the waitress forgot my friends corona. The waitress took my corona gave it to my friend and said she'd be back to replace mine......... she never came back.....
Getting in was a different obstacle in itself. Â I came with a group of friends for their Taco Tuesday. We we're right on time 5:30 doors open. As I walked up security made me change my shoes (I had on fancy sandals with an around the ankle closure) I said fine and walked back to my car to find some heels. Another friend had on a maxi dress which I guess is against dress code too. We had to coax him for about 5 mins to let in. ( We told him she was from Texas, which she was, and he made her show proof. Two types of id showing she was from another state.) Â It was such a waste of time.
Once inside The place was empty which was to be expected so early. I grab my tacos and my drinks. Here is where things start to piss me off.....
As ppl began to arrive left and right, I see sandals, flip flops, ----- and I mean like old navy flip flops (you know the ones for $2.50). Maxi dresses, tacky cut- off jeans....... REALLY .... I MEAN REALLY ........AND SECURITY PUT US THROUGH ALL THAT. Â I WAS HIGHLY OFFENDED!
I went to complain to the manager, (of course she was tired of hearing from me) she was nice and apologized for the inconvenience. But even though she was nice she pretty much blew me off as over exaggerating.
******I can say that the music was good, the tacos were awesome, and I did end up getting a number that night!
I had an AWESOME time here for the FLYPOET showcase! The decor has been updated and is very trendy for Inglewood. They have a taco guy that sets up in the back and the tacos are really good at 1.00 a piece. The show, music, and host were just amazing. I didn't drink because I am watching my calories but I did have a pineapple juice, the server's breath was soooooo bad....omg...I had to keep putting my head back each time she came around to ask me what I wanted to drink and she came around no less than 6 times!!! Other than that it is a nice place, well staffed, there was a 15.00 cover for the show and it was soooo worth it. Â You can park on the street or valet.
Review Source:ok, so i went to the new kelly price r-n-b showcase this evening to try it out. this review is not about the showcase itself or kelly price as I believe she is a beautiful talent and has done a great thing by bringing something new and different that the community can come to appreciate and embrace. the review is based on the "new" savoy and what I saw there. the showecase was nice and kelly does a phenomenal job of creating a loving environment where everyone feels like they can participate. Hat's off to her for bringing something nice to the venue.
this review is SOLELY on the venue itself. well, im not sure about you, but when i go out to a lounge or a club atmosphere, you kinda want to get dressed up and enjoy yourself with other people like you. the savoy certainly does offer a little something for everyone. whether you're in your early 20s or your late 70s, there were people in all age groups there. for me, it's not really appealing to be at a lounge that people older than my parents are grinding in. however, for some, i guess that is nice. while waiting for the show to start, i saw people continually come from the "back" with plates of soft shell tacos and salsa. however, i never saw a serving stationi or where these tasty looking vittels were coming from. but it was very random. literally people are walking around with styrofoam plates eating tacos in a lounge. i'm sorry but that's not really upscale as this is not a restaurant to my knowledge. also they passed out circular glow ring that people started to adorn theirselves with and fashioin them into headbands and the like. i couldn't freaking believe it. 1/4 of the club was wearing a makeshift glowring head band?? WTF?
There is also a VIP area wear people randomly came in and out. usually when you see the VIP area, you actually want to be in it. however, here, i was cool and did not mind not going behind the velet rope. as far as attire, they have a big placard outside with a list of "dont wear this or that rules", however, people seemed to be in violation of all those rules. basically if you like baggy jeans, spandex tights, or suits from teh Hollywood Suit Outlet where you can get zoot suits for $99 with all the fixings, then you'll be appropriately dressed here. they did do some new renovations and when the lights off your eyes, don't pick up on where they cut corners. with that said, the place does look a darn sight better than it did in prior years. this is a place where you can just be yourself. there is no hollywood pretense, no need to really get all dressed up. yes, you will be patted down at the door by security, but hey, that's life these days. anyway, it is not a venue i would be back to but i thought i woudl give it a try and try the new showcase. it's certainly more customer service friendly than the RNB live showcase in hollywood. there's no line, no cover, and you just come and sit down adn if you're hungry, apparently you can eat tacos inside. however, if you are looking for the hollywood glitz and glam and fake people and fakeness, you will not find it here.
Okay...what exactly are you looking for? Â If you're looking for a super swanky place where folks are dressed in their finest not doing things like p-popping at the bar (literally)... then don't come here.
But if you're looking for strong drinks, friendly bar tenders, and AWESOME people watching (like p-popping at the bar), then come here. Â You can't take yourself seriously and come in this place. Â Just go to have fun. Â Other reviewers have used words like ratchet, ghetto, hood... at times... those words might apply but its all in good fun. Â Just go (pre-bar though because two drinks are 20 bucks), dance, and end the evening. Â
I went and I had a ball.
I would have say that I was very impressed with this place. My roommates and I were looking at free places to get in to listen to some reggae music and this place popped up. We got there super early, 9pm. The ambiance was nice and with plenty of places to sit and relax. The drinks were a bit pricey $9 cocktails & $11 shots & $4 bottled water, but that is to be expected. The waitresses are a little aggressive, but be polite to them, they do a good job. They do need to set up some type of wristband system for designated drivers, since I was only drinking water. The reggae band was good; they played in about 40 minute intervals and then the DJ played hip-hop. By 10:30p, the dance floor was packed until 2am. Overall, I had a great time people watching and dancing. I will go again!
Review Source:I was really excited to check the Savoy out. Â After looking at the website and seeing there was no cover charge on Friday nights, i thought it would be a perfect opportunity to check it out. Â This is one of the nicer venues when it comes to space. Â It's nicely laid out and the dance floor is big enough for a nice amount of people. Â
On Fridays they have a reggae band and hip-hop later on in the night. Â The music and over all vibe was cool. Â My issue comes from the fat lady bartender over charging on drinks. Â Long Island cost $15. Â Gin and orange juice cost $10. Â Â Really???...in Inglewood. Â What pissed me off even more after thinking about it, is the fact the fat hater ass female bartender used cheap house liquor and not top shelf. Â I could understand charging that for top shelf, but house liquor. Â Come on Savoy!! Â I totally understood afterwards why people were sitting in their cars drinking before going in. Â The only reason i would go back is because as i mentioned, the club is spacious and the vibe/people were cool. Â I'll definitely already have a buzz if and when i decide to go there again. Â
Fyi...if you go there, i would recommend trying another bartender other than the fat lady. Â You'll know who i'm talking about as soon as you get to the bar. Â To all my Yelpers, please excuse my language. Â I'm just pissed at the thought of being taken advantage of by some fat ass hater!! Â It won't happen again!!
LOL @ the "ghetto-fab" comment...I'd kinda have to agree. I really liked this place though.
Came with my boyfriend and his friends on a Friday night a few months ago. Street parking. Arrived around close to midnight, no cover. They had a live reggae band which me and my boyfriend were diggin' and was also a nice change of pace from your typical club music and dancing. After the band finished they did play some hiphop/rap and we had a great time dancing. Crowd seemed to be like 85% black and the rest a mix of everything else.
I'd definitely come back here especially on a broke night and didn't feel like paying to get in anywhere.
This was such a joke! No cover my ass! I got there at 4:30 to stand in line for an hour before they let us in. Get inside and guess what? EVERY TABLE had a reserved sign on it! They only left 3 booths open and folks pounced on them like starving prisoners in a concentration camp. I then noticed two young women trying to negotiate with one of the help about securing one of the "reserved" tables. Guess what? They weren't reserved at all! The owner did this to make the audience BUY A SEAT!!! So I said okay, I have money, let me find out how much for me & my party to sit down. Can you believe they wanted $250!!!!!!!!!! Are you effing kidding me???!!!! $250 to sit down on Manchester & La Brea??? I've paid $250 in friggin Vegas for what they call "bottle service" in some of the hottest clubs on The Strip! And there you at least get A BOTTLE OF THE DRINK OF YOUR CHOICE and your own server to look after you. This is just another example of black-owned establishments GOUGING AND TAKING ADVANTAGE of it's own community. I am outraged! I've been all over the world to some of the most exciting locations you could travel to. So to see this ridiculous display of GREED in the 'hood makes me sick. And I bet that Ms. Stone had no idea of this capitalization by the owner on her name & reputation as an artist. This was my first time and will be my LAST TIME EVER patronizing this establishment. My party and I walked out immediately. And not because we couldn't afford it.......oh quite the contrary........but because we were HIGHLY OFFENDED by this blatant bait & switch of a so-called free concert. All they had to do is just sell tickets in the first damn place! I'm sure that many of us die-hard Angie Stone fans would have gladly paid to spend an intimate evening with her. So to owner of the Savoy Entertainment Center, YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!
Review Source:This is my first time here and it was great. I came on a Friday which was reggae night and the vibe was great and it felt like an awesome place to come drink and mingle with friends. Then at around 11 the hip hop music started and everybody was on the dance floor. I had a great time and the drinks definately were potent big plus not at all watered down. I cant wait to go back!!!! I also met some cool new friends. :-)
Review Source:So my first time going to this spot was last night which is a friday night! It was super duper packed loved it there! It was reggae night and I love REGGAE! Everything about this place was on point. Its very roomy and tons of space so wen it gets packed its still enough room! The best part of this place is that they dont charge to go in. So who doesn't love NO CHARGE right?? lol. The bar was good there is two bar spots here, also there is an outside patio where they do have tacos and hot dogs I believe!
The crowd is good. A lot more of the lil bit older crowd be here. Really nice spot to go and listen to some good reggae and get your buzz on! Would go back!
This place is kinda ghetto fabulous as others yelpers have mentioned. But it's always crackin' on Friday nights when Detour Posse blesses the stage. Detour has toured the world and shared the stage w/ reggae superstars such as Barrington Levy & Gregory Isaacs.Detour is straight Fiya on stage jammin' a lickle bic o reggae and keepin the crowd vibin' to da riddems. Big Up Detour! Respect! In between Detour Posse's sets the Dj spins some bangin' hoodtastic tracks on the 1's & 2's. Ratchets go crazy! Drinks are kinda pricey and you can't take your drink w/ you on the patio. Lame! No cover or dress code so double plus there! Staff is always cool from doorman to waitress, to bartender. Always a good vibe here ghettofabulous and all.
Review Source:not really going to add anything new tot his, but GHETTOFABULOUS is the right answer.
its around the corner from the house in Inglehood, so what do you really expect, but i can tell YOU what to expect when you go.
street parking, the valet is for the ghettofabulous people who are trying to show off their Charger with rims, LMAO. drinks are watered down and overpriced. got a shot of crown with 1 part crown and 7 parts ice and water in a tiny shot glass for $10. the waitresses have an attitude unless you are one of the 12 guys in the whole place, and then i guess their big asses and empty heads have an excuse.
sidenote: last time i was there, i asked the waitress what kind of whiskeys they had. she paused for a second, then got this puzzled look on her face, then said CAPTAIN MORGAN. i paused, shook my head and told her i was not sure, but i did not think that was a whiskey. she abruptly told me, that she was sure that was a whiskey. i brushed it off and asked if she had crown. she immediately retorted, "i thought u wanted whiskey". i asked her what she thought it was, and she paused and said that she thought it was a tequila. i shook my head and politely asked her if she could just bring me crown on the rocks. she again asked me if i wanted a whiskey. i told her yes, and to bring me crown. she did not move. i told her to read the bottle. she left, came back and nearly threw the drink in my lap.
ANYWAY. the only reason i would recommend anybody ever go here, is for FLYPOET. it is the first wednesday of the month and has relatively decent spoken word artists. prepare yourself for the house band who plays between each artist... they sound kind of like sublime.
NORTON WISDOM comprises 2.5 of the 3 stars. he is amazing, humble, and just absolutely rocks.
This place as a venue is fine. its large has the flat screens and so on. I would ignore the valet, its easy to find parking on the street. the bartenders must be under strick rules b/c you get only exactly what you pay for. which is fine i guess. the only issue i have with this place is the promotion is scattered. sometimes it cracks for  a while, and then you walk in and its dull as heck, and sometimes you have to pay. its not consistant. its not like you know, okay every friday this is going on and it cost this much, that place changes promoters every few weeks.
Review Source:GHETTO GHETTO GHETTO!! 80% women 20% men. Men are scared to ask women to dance. Â Overpriced watered down drinks too. WTH!? Went on a Friday night for Reggae. The band was great. The night started real slow. Then all of a sudden the dance floor was packed! The women (I use that term loosely) hiked up their dresses and grinded their big booties on the males they danced with. That was the main dance move this night. I've heard it's not like this every night though. The cold pathetic food in the corner was a joke and not really fit for human consumption. All in all, it was pretty stank but if you like that sort of thing, have at it.
On the plus side (maybe), most of the people in this club were regular looking people. Definately NOT Hollywood and the land of the fake and gorgeous. Â If you have a few extra pounds, not a problem. Big gut? Not a problem.
If you light anything other than a cigarette at this spot security will swarm on you like an undercover swat team. Â " my bad fellas, the live reggae band made me assume it was all good." Â This place has an older crowd of mostly 40 year old pimps with shinny, brown slacks trying to snatch themselves a young tender.
(the live music saves it from a one star rating )
We  actually went here...there were a lot of older people (doing the cha cha slide) but that was ok because older people are cool....but our night got cut short because of some ghetto broads were let down by our beauty lol. Just as Rachael T. said, we got there at 12:30 and left at 12:50...walked in, went to the RR, danced to 2 songs and then came the drama. Augly girl walking up to me asking if we had a problem with her and her crew...lmmfao. How elementary school was that??? What reason in this entire world would we...well, I waste my time to talk about some ghetto girl that looked like she belonged in the Nickersons??? Please tell me that. Anyway, we continued to dance and then they came back. By this time, my auntie Kis had to get ugly with them. We left because me being the bougie chick that I am was not about to mess up my outfit, shoes, hair, nails or pedicure just to fight some random ass girls because they thought we were talking about them...the freaking security wouldnt let us exit so we had to cross the dance floor full of old folks and wakk to the oter side...and then we left. What a waste of a night, money and time. I will never in my life return to  this.
Review Source:I try...I really do!
That being said I enjoy going to clubs all over the city. Hollywood, the  San Fernando Valley, the West Side, South Bay, and sometimes Long Beach. I live in Inglewood, but I don't normally go to many venues here.
The things I enjoy when going out are...
1. A well mixed environment...I go out to experience something outside my personal bubble.
2.A stress free/ B.S. free zone...I go out so I will not have to be on my guard, and enjoy myself.
3. Fair market price for the area...The higher the rent...the higher the cover charge...I get it!
4.Comfort...if I'm paying for service, then I expect it.
This club is uncomfortably close to where I live, on the weekends I see, and hear people yelling, fighting, broken glass, people relieving themselves on the walls of local businesses, or squatting in dark corners, but since I can hear all of this outside, and see it out my window...I figured... maybe I've got the wrong impression of this place...I'll give it a try.
I walk over, and first impression is that people are actually dressing up, men are wearing slacks, and suits (although I don't get owning a purple, red, or green suit), some men are wearing Bowlers, Fedoras, Kangols. Ok...so now I'm in line, and I see a valet station...that recklessly swerves down the street, to park in an abandoned charter school playground. Finally get to the front of the line, where I am asked to turn around and be frisked, and "wanded"= metal detector...uh oh... not a good sign!
I get to the front, and I'm asked for a $20 cover...I almost laughed out loud, but instead, just smirked trying to think of the last time I paid a $20 cover for a place that wasn't B.H, Hollywood, or Century City. The age range varies from 21 to...HOLY SHIT!...is that my grandfather?!!, It was actually one of his golfing buddies from the Korean War...(I Bullshit You Not)...interesting...this is now starting to look like an old pimps pick up spot! The women in general weren't dressed for their...body type...but I keep trying to find something I like about this place...keeping hope alive!!! lol
I get to the bar, The bartender was fairly attentive, since a lot of bartenders overlook men ordering drinks, and attend the ladies first. This bartender addressed everyone on a first come...first serve basis. I order a Jack and Coke...it comes in a tiny plastic cup, and it's mostly ice for $7...hmmm. The venue itself is spacious... huge dance floor, stage for events and mini concerts, and a separate V.I.P. area. The music was well mixed, and the acoustics were well set up. I also noticed a small serving area with warming trays of Macaroni, Buffalo wings, fries...etc.
Not my kinda scene, but I can see that some effort was put into this venue, which is why I didn't give it only one star.
Boooo! For the Michael Jackson celebration they promised to show one of his last concerts. Why am I sitting here watching a concert from 1996?! I guess considering his career was 45 years, this could be one of his last concerts. The $5 martinis are kool aid in a martini glass. The service sucks. Our servers favorite answer is "I don't know." $8 for 3 wings and some french fries. I could've stayed home...
Review Source:OMFG, OMFG ... I just met Saul Williams.
Let that glorious reality not influence the fact that I also really liked this club-cum-venue.
Decor, in this case, is not the issue. Neither, necessarily, are the prices of the drinks (they're average, by the way, not too cheap and not overpriced and relatively strong but sorta small), nor the acoustics, nor the fact that I shoulda upgraded my tickets to get a booth because the spoken word and hip-hop show tonight was standing room only.
Really, the reason I give Savoy five stars is that it glows love. The servers are beautiful people who like their job. The owner is a kind-hearted art-savvy godlike creature. The people inside the walls want to please you, and not in a codependent sort of way. I think they really care that you have a good time. THAT is why prophets and poets want to perform here. The good ones, anyway.
Logistics: You can valet if you like, but street parking nearby is free at night (one street east of La Brea is Market, I think, and there are tons of spots); Savoy has food (I got a huge plate of rice pilaf, mac and cheese, green beans and corn for $9); get there early if there's something going on you want to see. Even though this venue is near the heart of Inglewood, people from all over the city know and love it, and it can be really busy.
I went there last night for a birthday party. Â It's my first time going out to party in Inglewood. Â Great place, cool folks, nice wait staff. Â I don't know who said the drinks were cheap, they really are not. Â Plus it was more ice than drinks in these small plastic cups. Â The bartenders must have just got out of bartending school or something.
I give it A-OK for my experience because really there were more females than males, but really, where were all the fine guys at?
This is the spot where I can let my hair down and relax with the some good hip hop music, a couple of drinks, good food, assertive men, and comfortable environment. Welcoming staff with good attitude. Even when celebrities are in the house everyone is still laid back down to earth..ghetto-fan-tab-ulous. I drive from the I.E and it is worth it
Review Source:This is a spot to go to get cheap drinks & hear good music. Â The crowd will definitely leave you underwhelmed. Â They frequently have $3 drink specials (INCLUDING TOP SHELF) if you get there early enough. Â But, overall the drinks are very reasonable.Unfortunately you have to go through Ft. Knox security just to get in which can be a bit annoying. Â Decent spot if you're in the Inglewood area. Â Also note that there is a dress code, that they seem to enforce at the discretion of security.
Review Source:I had my birthday party here this past Saturday, May 17th, and let me say for $100 (+$25 if you want a bottle of Moet, which I did) you get a booth and three table which consist of 12 chairs.
You can come in at 5-6pm the day of and set up your decorations how you want it to be. The bathroom has an attendant, which is a triple plus in my book (have you ever been to the bathroom at a night club when there wasn't an attendant on duty? EWW! Â I'd rather pee on myself). The DJ played all the right songs and knew how to get people out on the dance floor.
The bartender didn't know how to make some of the drinks that my guests were asking for and even asked for the ingredients of what I think are very common  drinks, like Screaming Orgasms, and Long Island Iced Tea (don't get it!) and a Midori Sour (people it's not supposed to be so sweet, if I had diabetes I would ave been in trouble).
Overall, after 5 cranberry and vodka, and shots of Patron, I didn't care. You couldn't pull me off that dance floor.
I'd highly recommend this place for a party.
Ms.Nasha
Hmm I have been here on three different nights...
Mondays: During football season you can watch the game and its free food served. Drinks are $5 and $7.00 for Top Shelf and after the game it turns back into a nightclub..
Tuesdays: Improv Comedy, hosted by Chris Spencer... various comedians from Def Comedy Jam, Comic View etc... Very Funny 2 drink min and the food is $3/plate.
Thursday: I had my 27th bday party here, it was cool... I was mad that some folks could not get in because they didn't come in dress code..
