This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant in Aurora. The owner is a great guy that means well and I am always treated with respect every time I go in. I live about a half an hour away from Senor Miguels, but when I want some authentic Mexican food - I make the drive (yes, I may speed sometime... don't judge me!)
Their green chili is outstanding and yes, I can handle the hot! When I say hot, I mean it is hot and packed with flavor!
It was great to see they fixed up this mini mall, hopefully it can drive a little more business to Senor Miguels, cause they truly deserve it.
Just a side note, Miguel - you get a liquor license and you will get a lot more money from me! The only thing you are missing is a strong margarita to go with the delicious Mexican cuisine!
This is the only place I've found since moving here from New Mexico that has "authentic" New Mexico green chile; but fair warning: when they say hot, they mean HOT. But it's flavorful and delicious. If you're not sure if you can take the heat, ask for a sample or order the chile cheese fries.
The rest of their fair is pretty standard New Mexican food, and I enjoyed it. Â The portions are quite large, so consider sharing.
Great breakfast burritos with a different flavor during days of the week. I work Saturday mornings and wished they opened sooner so I could get a few (Sat. open at 10). The salsa is good and makes a great snack when you get it to go. Small family owned business so sometimes you have to be patient.
Review Source:Quick tip: Â DON'T GO.
My boyfriend and I went to Senor Miguels this weekend and had a horrible experience. Â
We both love mexican food and are always trying to find new places to go. Â When we arrived we were ignored for a few minutes while the waitress was chatting with friends sitting inside. Â Once we sat down we received our menus and waited for our waitress to come back, her priority again seemed to be chatting up a storm with her friends. Â Not a good start, but, oh well. Â
After quite a while we finally received our appetizer - the chili con queso. Â Honestly I think the fake cheese you get from 7-11 had more flavor and substance. Â I couldn't eat any of it because it was that bad. Â The waitress asked how it was and I told her it wasn't okay, she nodded and walked away.
Then we received our dinner - horrible. Â I'm not sure what had more flavor than my steak fajitas -- my water or the sour cream. Â Bad bad choice. Â It's not the normal 'sizzling' fajitas that you might be used to, it was more like leftover steak something (?) with a can of rotel that was almost heated up to room temperature. Â My boyfriend ordered a few different things and said they tasted okay, his favorite was the half&half chili. Â (I'm glad something was okay!!)
After having to walk over to the kitchen a few times to talk to someone (waitress chat-a-thon in full force) we finally received our bill. Â We had a http://restaurant.com certificate to use, the fine print states that 18% gratuity would automatically be added. Â We've used these certs before so we know how it works. Â When looking at our check she charged well over 20% for the tip. Â If we didn't have the certificate I'm not sure if she would even get 10%. Â About 10 minutes later we receive a bill with an adjusted tip but the total was MORE than the first one!? Â It appeared that we were about $0.40 below our minimum amount to use the http://restaurant.com certificate so the waitress took it upon herself (in between the visits with friends of course) to add $0.50 to EACH of the items we ordered. Â Shoot, instead of being shady and adding false charges without telling us we would have just ordered an extra side of guac to mask the horrible flavor of the food. Â (Do you have something to mask the flavor of the guac? Ugh!)
This was probably the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The table next to us had the same experience - horrible food, poor performance from wait staff and incorrect / random up-charges on the bill. Â That's neat.
This is my all-time FAVORITE mexican restaurant. I go here at least 3 times a week for their breakfast burritos and once every couple weeks for lunch (love the Navajo taco). I love the hot chili, but if you're a wimp, you might stick with the 1/2 and 1/2! The service is great! The business is family owned and operated, they don't do a lot of advertising but they can get really busy, especially in the morning. I have always received excellent service!
Review Source:My husband and I both lived in Texas for at least a decade, so we were used to getting really good mexican food fairly cheap. We've lived in Colorado now for 10 years but never really found a mexican place that compared - everything was more pricey and it usually looked like slop on a plate - we figured we could make better at home.
I purchased a coupon on http://restaurant.com for Senor Miguel's, and when I showed the waitresses she smiled and said, "You're more than welcome to use that, but it's really hard for two people to spend that much here." She was right.
Their chips and salsa are pretty good - the chips were crispy, salted right, and not greasy, and the salsa has bits of fresh onion and cilantro in it. Just be advised - the first basket and bowl are free, but afterwards it's around $2.50 for more. Not a big deal, and it keeps us from filling up on just chips and salsa, but I'm not sure if they offer more for larger tables or if you have to pay.
I ordered the small combo plate, a bean tostada, bean burrito, beef taco, and cheese enchilada for $7.25, and my husband got the navajo taco. I wasn't crazy about the ground beef in the taco - it was plain for my taste - and the cheese enchilada wasn't runny, gooey cheese, but more like shredded cheese that was still firm on the inside, so I wasn't crazy about that, either, but the burrito and tostada were great. The navajo bread was more like a fried tortilla and was good, but a little different than if you get it made from scratch elsewhere.
The second time we each got the chicken and bean burrito, $7 each, smothered with green chili, salsa, sour cream, lettuce, and cheese. These were awesome. We also got sopapillas - theirs are big (we received 2, each was about half a tortilla sized but thicker). They are covered with cinnamon and sugar, so you may ask for a lighter dusting if you don't want as much, but they were very good.
Their green chili is AMAZING. I've never liked green chili before and my husband loves it but has never found anywhere in CO that he actually enjoys it. Be warned - the hot is super hot., and if you bring some home (like we did) the second day it's REALLY hot. The 1/2 and 1/2 is perfect - it's still hot (it makes my nose run a little - but the flavor is fantastic. If you only like a little hint of heat, I'd definitely go with mild.
One more thing to note, their sign says they're closed on Sundays and close at 7:30pm every other night, so plan ahead. We will definitely be back.
I think the food is excellent, if you want HOT chili this is the spot. It is family owned but I think that is a positive. They like to get to know their customers & are friendly. Its great prices & everyone that I have told about this place are hooked. Nothing serious to complain about-
Review Source:I have visited a few times now, usually for the breakfast burritos which are the only reason this place gets the two stars. They thrive themselves on being family owned and operated and to have the hottest green chile in town. It is obviously family owned as you will clearly see family photos on the walls and a home like feels to the decor, but according to another yelper the owner is related to the Santiagos family somehow if this is the case that could make this place the 'el chubbys' of santiagos. If you've ever had chubbys compares to el chubbys you know what I'm talking about. The green chile is pretty darn hot but its more of a tobasco type of hot where they focus more on heat than flavor which is sad because the beef buritto I had was well seasoned and had a lot of potential I just couldn't get past the taste of the chile.
Review Source:In Aurora for the week for work. Â Co-workers showed me this place. Â We stopped by every morning and would get our burrito. Â The meat changes daily, chorizo, sausage, ham, etc. Â You can either get them hot, mild, or 1/2 & 1/2. Â They are pretty good. Â The hot is not that hot, just the right amount of heat. Â
We also stopped by for lunch today. Â I had the Tacos De Asada. Â Three soft shell corn tortillas with grilled steak and onions, rice and beans and pico de gallo. Â I asked for a side of hot green chile sauce. Â It was very good. Â The rice was a little different. Â The salsa and chips were good also. Â
Great customer service and owner thanked us for coming in all week. Â even gave us a discount. Â Nice.
Alright, I finally made it back for a repeat visit! Â Still spicy as hell (yes!) but still just OK in flavor. Â Service is meh... appears to be a family run business. Â A high school girl was waiting tables and otherwise gossiping in the back with whomever is back there (loud and clear I might add... lol). Â It appeared that we were lucky to get our waters re-filled.
At any rate, Senior Miguel's is nothing special. Â But, it's cheap, spicy and it's just down the street so I'm sure there will be more repeat visits in the future. Â It's just one of those neighborhood places that is nice to have around but you'd never go out of your way to eat here if you didn't live in the area.
On a side note, they do have the spiciest green chili that we have found so far in Aurora!
When they say the green chile is HOT - believe them! Â If you like it hot - this is your place. Â I had the chicken chimichanga and it was great. Â We got takeout so I can't comment on the service or dining-in experience.
A couple of my co-workers turned me on to this place...it's a great little 'hole in the wall' kinda place. Â Definitely will go back!
I've eaten here a number of times while working in the area. The owner Mike Morales is part of the same family that owns the Santiago restaurants. The food is very similar so if you like the good Santiago's (there are bad ones as well) then you'll like this place as well. A medium hot green chile, a great indian fry bread taco, and the breakfast burritos are my norm here. Beware the menudo though. It needs improvement.
