Ever since "South Tavern " took over this location I have to say it has been a great place for a number of my family members to frequent. We especially visit at least 3 out of 4 Wednesday Pizza Nights. I love their pizzas and salads. However, for the first time I came to South Tavern alone .. I brought my service dog. They actually demanded to see all paperwork. By law, this isn't allowed, but I have nothing to hide. My dog was extremely well behaved and many customers wanted to interact with him. I am not to be harassed for my disability by law. The owner instructed the bartender to make me the weakest vodka/cranberry I have ever had the displeasure of drinking and I was told that I could not be served a second drink. I asked for one of their Wednesday pizza specials and was told I had to pay full price because I was not permitted to eat it on premises. This all because the owner Tom feared I would cause trouble due to my disability. My service dog caused no interuption whatsoever .. I eventually got the pizza for the special price as long as I left the premises. I have never been so embarassed by this establishment. One of the few places I thought I was comfortable in .. Now I am not. If you have a disability be prepared to be shut off and quickly pushed to leave.

Well this is one of just a few places right in our little So. Glastonbury center, and I wish I could say I love it.  It would seem to be a great addition - classic Amercian casual, lots of tvs with whatever game you want to watch, a fireplace to keep you warm in the winter and lots of outdoor seating for the nicer weather.  I WANT to love it.  Sadly, the food is salty and mushy most of the time, the interior could use a major scrubbing and/or update, and most importantly, there is quite a bit of sketchy activity going on there of late.  Between the amped of up police presence and the suspicious customers hanging out in the one-person bathroom, I won't be going back until I hear about some big changes.  I would've given it three stars except for that last tidbit, which really pushed it down to a one.  It's really too bad because it could be great.  No thanks.

I went here to lunch today with some family.
Lunch was decent- pretty large portions, food was average.
    Nothing special, but not gross.
The waitress was alright, kept our glasses full.
Would probably choose another resteraunt over this one.

I came here for a midday luncheon meeting with some colleagues. On a Monday at noon, it was pretty empty, so don't take anything I say about noise levels as predictive. I'm pretty sure your mileage will vary!

South Tavern sits just south of the turn toward the Glastonbury ferry landing. It's got plenty of parking, and has a clean, inviting look. Inside, the interior is rather darker. It feels warm, but I remember wondering if I'd need to use a flashlight to read the papers I'd brought in with me.

Service was prompt but not particularly effusive. The menu features a number of burger options, some sandwiches, comfort food options, and pizza. They do a nice lunch special that includes a soup with some of their items; I ended up getting the tuna melt and a cup of chowder.

The chowder was pretty good, and came with the usual packet of saltines. I found it a little salty, which means others would probably find it about right. The tuna melt was tasty, and they offered choices of bread.

Mine isn't a job where you drink beer at a business lunch, but I noted with pleasure that they have a reasonable tap list, including a couple of local brews.

I like South Tavern, but it isn't a standout for me. For a couple dollars more, not far up the road, there's more creative offerings at Plan B, so I'm not certain how often I'll be back here.

My husband and I use this place as a go-to; it's a much-needed neighborhood restaurant. We love the Pizza Night on Wednesdays, since he's a serious carnivore and I prefer veggies, because we can get the pizzas we want at great prices. The pizzas have thick crusts and are usually generously covered with whatever toppings we've chosen. The sauce is tasty and the pizzas are just as good the next day. You can't beat it for the price.

The atmosphere is one of a local sports tavern, but it's family-friendly, and it's mostly typical pub fare, but, along with the pizza, has some nice additions. I love their mussels with garlic, butter, and white wine sauce, and my husband likes their buffalo burger. It would be good for them to come up with an original dish only found at Southie, as well as to expand their beer selection. The prices are reasonable and comparable to other restaurants in the area.

The only downside is the waitstaff can be unreliable - there are some awesome waiters and waitresses, who think of everything and are incredibly attentive. There are others who act as if we are an inconvenience. The manager is wonderful and makes sure to stop by our table to say "Hi" every time we visit.

I recommend this place to our friends, who end up enjoying it as much as we do.

My younger Brother and I were at this fantastic location this past weekend to observe my older Brother play a gig on the patio.  So much fun! The patio itself is just the right size, perfect to get that vibrant fun feeling everyone is having, but not so big that it can seem overwhelming..  We have seen my Brother perform here several times, normally they have played indoors, so this was a great treat to see them on the patio.

Our service was top notch, and it was SLAMMED for a good portion of the night, and we had a VERY large party on the patio, but our service never wavered.  Our servers were polite, personable and extremely efficient.

This particular night we only ordered the chicken nachos, we had eaten dinner earlier in the evening.  The Nachos were delicious.  The Nachos were crisp, loaded with all the extras, and the chicken was moist and tasty, really hit the spot.

I have also tried fried clams here (not sure if it was a special or not) but they were outstanding! clams are one of my favorite things in the world, these did not disappoint.  we have also tried their boneless wings, fantastic! They were piping hot, Delicious barbecue sauce and the meat basically fell off the bone.  You want a burger?  Give it a try! My Brother, as well as myself, have ordered burgers here a couple of times and always fresh, tasty, just really satisfying overall..

Only pitfalls of the place, if these even matter for his location, the bar is tiny.  It seats about 8 people, maybe 10 (that's pushing it) and they only have a couple of small TVS, so not a great place to watch a game, not the worst either.  they do have a few tables in the bar area which face a decent sized screen.  I would not choose this location to watch a game, but I have seen worse. In the restaurant area they have "raised' bar seats which face a few TV'S but I really don't get the feeling this is a great place to catch a big game.  I frequent MANY sports bars, as I am a HUGE sports fan, so this particular location doesn't strike me as a 'sports bar" as others on here have stated, I would not label it that at all.

But this is off point, I am not picking here, this place is clearly open for being a restaurant, not a bar, and they do it exceptionally well..  Highly recommend..

Just had one of the best meals I've had in awhile here. Meatloaf, onion rings and mac and cheese with garlic bread and a generous glass of Cupcake malbec. I don't know if that was the best pairing but everything was so good I didn't care. I don't know if my homemade mac & cheese could have topped South Tavern's, it was so hot and cheesy with buttery crispy bread crumbs on top. My pup enjoyed his chunk of leftover meatloaf very much too. A friend had a rack of ribs and said they were okay. Oh well. I liked Joe, our server, and the food arrived quickly. I was a very happy diner.

Best nachos around, particularly on Sunday nights when it's bottomless nachos for $8. That said, however, the service here can downright suck sometimes. Just super slow. Other food is OK. Outside seating area is nice, and if you're a sports fan, there are plenty of large flat screens in the main seating area. If you come here for live music, be prepared to deal with the volume level. Some bands believe they are just so awesome that they need to pump up the volume all the way, and the folks at South Tavern won't ask them to lower it, even if it is at a ridiculous decibel.

Good food, daily happy hour 4-6:30, and kids eat free on Monday, and Tuesdays.

Went through a renovation a little while ago, and it got spruced up a bit. It's a sports bar to be sure, there is seating up on a raised platform at the perimeter of the dining area that gives a great view of the many large flat screen TVs. The food I did try were just bar snacks, but they were tasty and did the job.

Not exactly a beer destination to be sure. Keeping to the taps that are popular is a good idea, the "specialty" taps on the side (a stand alone mini-fridge kegerator) haven't been used in a good long while, and the beer tastes like it.

There is live music periodically, not of the greatest caliber, but it does break up the sound of the many games on TV.

Average at best.  Like the Diamond Sports Pub, this place is more about the atmosphere and  what's on TV rather than the food.  However, the food here is much better than the Diamond but it's iffy.  The stuff that is good is a lot better, and the stuff that is tasteless is just as bad.

Their homemade mac & cheese is very good.  South Tavern is definitely more family friendly than Diamond and I love the location.  In the warmer weather the patio outside is great, if the mosquitos aren't too bad.  The bar scene is pretty lively.

Finally it is college basketball season again. We quickly dashed out of the door last night to watch some b-ball and after reading South Tavern had TVs hanging from the ceiling, we were there.

I am being super critical of the atmosphere because I was there for the games... but the place is more restaurant than tavern. The bar is on the smaller side with a few pub tables. Then there is the dining room with numerous TVs lining the middle of the room. People from both sides can view the TVs except for the people sitting under the them, and there was only one TV on the wall for those individuals to watch.

Guess where I sat... under the TVs so we were restricted to one TV but the girls were great about flipping through to find our particular game.

It is a family place as well. I wasn't really looking for a family friendly place to drink and watch b-ball.
The food was great, I had green beans (least healthy preparing of a vegetable which made them oh so tasty), and a Cobb salad. The fiance had the Reuben wrap with sweet potato fries. Everything was fantastic.
I did repeatedly attempt to refill my glass of wine with the actual wine list... which is printed on an empty bottle. I kind of wished for some dinner rolls since I had only ordered a salad. Can't win them all.
Most importantly the service was fantastic.

BTW, This place is a 100% Red Sox bar.

The food here was pretty good. I ordered the brocoli stuffed chicken and my husband got the clam chowder and steak fajitas. Our friends had meatloaf and the penne with chicken. All were tasty.

They have a good selection of beers on tap and the service was fast and friendly. Flat screens hang from the ceilings so this would be a fun place to eat and have a beer while watching a game.
