While we've enjoyed Southern Culture Kitchen and Bar in the past, the problems added up on our last visit, and we probably will pass the next time someone suggests dining there.

The atmosphere and look of the restaurant are very nice and unexpected in the strip mall location. It is very loud however, so be prepared.

We started at the bar, where the service was inattentive. The bartenders were very  nice when they did notice us, but service was slowish. Also, my bar pet peeve - they filled the glasses by scooping them right into the ice bin, which is a huge no no. We were at the bar for 45 minutes and got one drink each.

After our friends arrived, we moved to a table and had a delightful waiter. We ordered appetizers ( Peaches & Mozzarella and Deviled Eggs ) which were served about 15 minutes later. Both tasty, but needed seasoning. Actually, everything that I tasted last night was under seasoned and needed a good dose of salt. Our entrees took about 25 minutes to arrive. I ordered a burger medium rare and received a really well done sandwich. I sent it back and didn't really think much of it as I know this kind of thing happens sometimes. Only problem is that I waited another 20+ minutes for the replacement and it was at least medium well. They did take it off our bill, but I was somewhat surprised that no one in management came over to talk to us.

Other entrees were tasty as reported by my companions. With so many good options in Greenville, we probably won't make returning here a priority.

Went for Sunday brunch with a large group.  Must try the bloody mary bar!  Had the yardbird chicken served over a biscuit with sawmill gravy and a egg on top.  One of the best pieces of fried chicken I've ever had. Be sure to try the tater tots & pimento cheese fondu appetizer. Cool atmosphere, we will be back.

Brunch was absolutely delicious. I had this poteen, which was basically raw fries with all sorts of goodness (gravy, bacon, cheese, egg) on top of it. They had a decent selection of beers but christ in heaven they were expensive. 6 bucks for a terrapin. The lady got unlimited mimosas for, I think 12 bucks. So that's not a bad deal. The atmosphere wasn't stellar, big open loud room with lots of people around. I guess you deal. I usually sit outside at brunch when I'm downtown so I guess I'm used to a different sort of atmosphere.

Been here 3 times.  Service is good, decor is awesome.  Food is great.  Good variety of food in a manageable number of menu items.  Good salad and meat dishes.  My only ding might be the temperature... chilly every time I go BUT the front door is not far from the dining area, so it is expected.  Would absolutely recommend and will return!

We finally made it out last weekend. We did not get a reservation for Saturday night as planned- we didn't call until lunchtime on Saturday, so no surprise- so our party of 4 showed up for an early dinner around 5:30pm to beat the crowd, and were promptly seated. Be smart if you don't have a reservation.

Pricing- VERY reasonable. Husband and I had an appetizer, two entrees, two beers, two glasses of wine, for $60 before tip.

We started with the tots and pimento cheese dip. Tots were great, pimento cheese was not what I expected. Pimento cheese typically has a bite, sharp quality to it; this was pureed and lost its flavor. Tots were great on their own though!

Entrees, everyone at the table loved them. Two of us had the brisket tacos, delicious with just the right amount of sauce. One had the fried yard bird, great breading on the chicken- as my husband put it, tasted homemade! Very tender, juicy meat. One had the club sandwich, also a hit.

Sides- two had the cajun mac and cheese- it was ok, nothing really special, and certainly nothing cajun about it- I would have expected a kick or something. One had the sweet potato fries and one had the fried okra- fried okra was great, actually full pieces of okra, not the chopped up bits that many places serve.

Atmosphere- we were in the main area, maybe 3 tables back from the stage. We were in and out before the music started up. Loved the dimmer lighting, the place looks great inside.

Service- our waitress was attentive, kept our drinks coming and checked in on us the perfect amount. Thank you also to the MANAGEMENT for listening to feedback on walk-ins. We greatly appreciate you accommodating us without a reservation (our bad for being last minute on trying to make one!)!

    We will definitely be back!

Here's the scoop on Southern Culture. This place has a great atmosphere and a really fun, creative presentation of the food. Warning: Be prepared to gorge on the heavy, rich, and fried. Even the salads are far from light. To start, my friends and I shared the pimento cheese dip and tater tots, which were presented in a Chinese take-out box with chopsticks.  Not actually sure what the two have to do with each other, but I appreciated the added festivity to my appetizer. What the pimento cheese dip lacked in flavor and kick, it did make up for in creaminess. I would have it again, but beware any pimento snobs out there, this probably won't live up to your expectations. I thought the fried chicken basket with crispy onion straws was more of a meal than a starter, but I would definitely recommend it. My friends did complain of a couple things being dry but I think people generally enjoyed their meals. They still have some kinks to work out in terms of service and speed but our waiter was nice and clearly still learning how everything worked.

Our party of 5 had reservations at 7:30 pm on Friday evening. The place was packed so we were really glad we had the reservation. We had to wait about 10 minutes beyond our res time, which we felt was reasonable considering how busy they were. We were seated at a nice roomy table for 6. Our server was very good and attentive especially considering how busy they were. The appetizers were exceptional, especially the bbq pork nachos. Pimento cheese and tater tots was also good but the ratio of tots/dip was a bit off (had to order more tots). Entrees at our table included the yard bird, chicken pot pie, and pot roast. All were very good and well seasoned. The Cajun Mac-n-cheese was excellent. We were all super full but had to order one banana pudding to share. It was also good.  Generally speaking the place had a good vibe and really good food. I would have given them another half star if the chairs hadn't felt like the were sliding all over the shiny floor.  Strange but true...

Bought the living social deal last month and went to use it right away on December 14th, a busy Friday night before the holidays, and it was one the best dinning experiences I've had in Greenville. The decor is beautiful and the food is outstanding. I recommend the meatloaf and the banana cream pudding in an iconic mason jar- instagrammed that masterpiece. Will be returning soon and will spread the word to all my friends.

Been here many times.  The service is always good,  awesome atmosphere and great menu.  Try the fried green tomato and pimento cheese Burger. Snow ale is great.

What a disappointment! We were thrilled by the menu and came for brunch on my husband's birthday. With reservations, we were seated right away and ordered fairly quickly. After ordering the service was mediocre - a soup appetizer came with the entrees, one entree was forgotten and had to be re-ordered and then hunted down, and it took 10 minutes to get a small to-go box when requested.

Worse was the food. The Down South omelet was disappointingly measly, so small that one in our party left hungry. The fries beneath the poutine were soggy on arrival, and the eggs on top, ordered over-medium, were cooked hard with no runny yolk. The fried green tomatoes came on a bucket of grits, twice as much as a person could eat, and were so over-battered that I picked the breading off before I could eat them. There is no kids menu, no a la carte breakfast option to order for a child (a fried egg and toast, maybe? Apparently not), and precious few items available that aren't drowning in gravy or deep-fried.

I was so excited to try brunch with a gourmet southern twist, and ended up picking at poorly-executed food and giving my son Cheerios on the ride home. Curiosity may bring me back to try the tater tots and pimiento cheese, but my expectations will be much, much lower.

We made reservations and went for dinner on Saturday night.  Good thing we had a reservation because it was crowded with a waiting line.  The service was excellent, although our server had no knowledge of the wines on the menu.  He was very familiar with the food on the menu and candid about our questions.
Point number one: Bring an extra dose of your Lipitor to take with the meal.  There are virtually no healthy choices at this restaurant.  Everything is heavily sauced, even the salmon which has a sugary sauce and is served with fries.  The ribs were good, but you could feel the arteries hardening.  One in our party had the crab cakes which were more deeply fried than normal.  The pot roast had an orange sauce of unknown origin and was not memorable in taste.  Probably the best thing we ordered was the beer butt chicken, which was moist and had good rotisserie flavor.
To summarize, this place seems like a typical downtown restaurant, overly stylized, large portions, with less attention to making food healthy and good tasting than we would expect.  Good atmosphere, a fun band and acceptable pricing, but the food doesn't really measure up.

Our first time to Southern Culture, and we'll definitely be back!!! The place was packed and booked solid, but the staff was super accommodating, and my party of 6 was able to secure a prime table near the fireplace. Waiter was spot-on, food was fantastic, and atmosphere was inviting. There was even a live band on the main stage. This place deserves 5++!

Outstanding service! The Pleasantburger was a winner and loved loved loved the fried green beans! The decor is warm, subdued, thoroughly modern and well done.

Brunch was a big hit. Started with a make- your- own Bloody Mary. Began by choosing a specific vodka, and then went to the bar to add a variety of tomato mixtures along with pickled okra, pickled onions, celery, olives, etc. It was a great drink. Ordered the fried chicken with eggs and a biscuit (can't remember the menu name)- it was great. Chicken was crisp and juicy, biscuit was soft with a browned exterior, egg was cooked with a firm white and a runny yolk. Perfect- and a generous portion. Good prices for delightful food. Service is not as solid as the food. Since they have just opened, I hope that will improve. I will tell all of my friends to give it a try!

I have been here twice in the first month they've been open, and both times were absolutely excellent food with decent service. I think the quality of service staff will improve over time. But there is not one bad thing I can say about the food or atmosphere!

Southern Culture's space is absolutely beautiful. There are fireplaces on either side of the bar, a patio with a really cool waterfall, and the main dining area is anchored by a stage where the restaurant hosts live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and they will begin to host movie nights on weeknights in the very near future.

The dinner menu is large and varied, and the prices are reasonable. The brunch menu is OUTSTANDING. Things I have eaten there so far: pimento cheese, tater tots (any restaurant that serves 'tots is alright by me!), shrimp po' boy tacos, and the crabcake benedict w/creole sauce and goat cheese grits (brunch, of course). All delicious. Oh, and the banana pudding in a mason jar: NOT to be missed. Beer wist and wine list are great, and Southern Culture has some specialty vodkas that they are serving in specialty cocktails (Bakon, anyone?). Also: $10 bottomless mimosas at brunch. Can't beat that.

The ingredients all taste fresh; the food came out hot, even after longer ticket times (we did have a large group for dinner), and though our drinks were slow getting to the table, we thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience SC has to offer.

I look forward to winter evenings after work sitting by the fireplace sipping a beer or glass of wine. SO glad that SC is on my side of town and not DOWNTOWN!

I am giving this place 3 stars with the understanding that a couple of fixes can gain at least 1 more star, if not 2. 1st, the place is not cheap but not "out of the park" expensive.

    HINT: No kids menu.

I got the the grilled pork chop, wife got the shrimp po-boys, and the kids shared a full rack of ribs. The food came out in reasonable time but we soon discovered that the ribs were ice cold and had to be sent back. That took another 10 minutes while ours were on the table getting cold. When the server brought the new ribs, we asked for a refill on the kids drinks. That never came. Then, as we finished the meal, the server was watching us like a hawk and was grabbing plates the second we finished them. He also took my beer which had at least 1/4 left. We ordered deserts, which were good but after 2 bites the server brought us our check with the "no hurry, but I'll take this when you are ready"

This was the grand opening and we had an invite from an associate that we were suppose to get 20% off. It was given to the server at the beginning of meal. It was not applied so we asked him. He took the check back and circled in pen each of the food items, leaving the drinks which we paid 2.50 each for sweet tea and cola??  No thought of a check reduction for serving us ice cold ribs.

The food was good, the service was sub-par for the pricing. May give it a 2nd try in a couple months after they get everything ironed out.
