Yippeee Splinters, some of my friends say it is the equivalent of Sports Page, and I can not disagree (Sports Page always being first in my heart though!).  Splinters is a great place to watch any game, it has a large curving bar as well as plenty of tables and standing room when it is busy.  I would spend more time here if there weren't so many dang Blackhawks fans there for every game ;)

What a great surprise. I was looking for a bar to watch week 17 of the NFL. This place blends in between Joe's Market and Joe's Pizza so it is hidden in plain sight. It's got a Bloody Mary bar (ie. they hand you a glass of vodka, you add the mix and ingredients,) 20 flat screen TVs, 4 projection TVs, free wifi and seats about 200. Great mix of people with an attentive staff. There is a line order kitchen so my Roast Beef sandwich showed up hot and fast. This just made my top 5 list of football bars in NW burbs.

Great place to hang with friends and watch sport games. Not a highend bar but the best place to just chill with friends. Cheap drinks and lively crowd.

I usually enjoy going here, food was pretty good, and it's a nice big place that usually not too crowded.  Well I went last night to watch the bulls game with a buddy, unfortunately this night was different, and not for the better.

Splinters is a bit outdated in decor but I can live with that it's a sports bar.

Here's my big gripe, big enough that we probably won't be going back anymore, yes it was that bad.
The single waitress working last night was horrible, no eye contact, snotty remarks, no smile, except for her friends who she was sitting with and chatting while not paying attention to us.

It took us 15 minutes to get her to get us a drink, then another ten to get a menu, we ordered Nachos (which sucked by the way) and she forgot plates and silverware, took us another 10 minutes of "excuse me?"  "hello" and two times of her saying I will be there in a minute, to get silverware and plates for our now cold nachos.

She was absolutely unwelcoming and she made us feel like we were inconvenicing her by asking her to do her job.  I am normally a go with the flow type guy, but I seriously thought we did something wrong for her to hate us.. Until I saw her acting the same way to many people.  I saw at least 2 small groups come in have a drink and leave.  I betcha 10 bucks they left to go somewhere better because of this server.   I seriously hope she was just having a REALLY bad day.  Because from what I saw, she needs to get a job at the post office.

No kidding, if I owned this place, I would fire her.

This place has potential, and I always thought of it as a staple place to go.  But now my opinion has changed.  Now I know why it's never really busy, seriously bad help is why.  Not to mention they used to have much better food.

Oh and then as we got up to leave she yelled, thanks for coming have a great night, more words than we heard from her in the 2 hours we were there, no kidding.

UPDATE: FOR THE BETTER!   Went back last night, after one of the owners contacted me regarding my concerns (BTW, Thank you, that was very professional of them) and I have to say it was a HUGE improvement over my previous visit.  My previous waitress was not working, so i cannot comment on her specifically. But the staff that was working was VERY pleasant and attentive, literally a complete turnaround from last weeks visit.  Thank you Splinters for renewing my faith in your sports bar!  I will be coming back..

On a separate Note, I tried your Ghost Chili Beef jerky this time, Great stuff, the coasters and the 2 dollar "try me" bags are a brilliant idea. Do you make that yourself?  Actually I would love to buy some in larger packages if possible?

    Thank you again.

As others have said, this pub is really a great addition to the area. They always have great specials like double wings, all-you-can-eat fish fry, broasted chicken, etc. depending on what day of the week you go. Although not every item is really spectacular, they are done competently for the most part and for the price you really can't complain. A couple items to note are: Pork wings - nicely done, soft and fall off the bone. This is a great alternative to ribs. Broasted chicken - Think of fried chicken without the frying but an extremely crispy texture on the outside and very nice juicy meat. Chicken wings - If you get these without sauce, they are very nice and crispy on the outside without overcooking the meat and very low in salt (I guess people don't try to eat healthy when they go to pubs, but it's good to know).

Given the price, speed, and general good quality, it's worth it to make a stop if you're in the area and want a great deal for food.

I met a friend here for lunch on a Monday and it was dead.  And extremely dark.  I thought with the awesome $5 lunch deal (which comes with a beer or well drink!) the place would be a little more crowded.  However, when our salads arrived we were not disappointed in our decision to eat at Splinter's.  Our server told us that everything is homemade.  My friend had the grilled chicken salad and I had the taco salad.  Both were large portions.  We left very full.  I just wish this place got a little bit more crowded and maybe they could spruce up the atmosphere a little bit!

A typical roadside strip mall sports bar, but with some great lunch specials.  For the truly wallet-challenged there are about 10-15 items for $5 that include a beverage - even a draft beer or well drink!  These include a really good french dip sandwich and a first class fried fish sandwich, which each include a choice of sides - such as soup, cole slaw, potato salad or the default fries.  Typically, there is only a bartender on duty at lunch, but ours was friendly, competent, and kept up with the modest crowd, even those eating outside in the "smoking section".  Not fancy, but a great place to kill the noon hour and have a more than decent lunch.

A quick stop in a lunch before an excursion into Caputo's and I find a $5.00 lunch menu with a ton of choices. I went for the basic grilled cheese with bacon and fries. Nice thick buttery bread, gooey cheese and crispy bacon. And for your five bucks you also get a drink! Iced tea with my meal thank you very much.

Nicole was my bartender and she was attentive and made a really good Dirty Martini. Will be heading back in there again... rumor is they have good ribs and burgers too!
