My buddy and I work in the tech park off of upper Manix road. There are a ton of lunch options within a mile or two. We end up at the sports grill a few times every week. We are often eating during peak lunch hours and really enjoy the food and service.

They offer a page of half off lunch items. I find myself with a Caesar Salad  quite often but really like the buffalo chicken sandwich and french dip. There's 8 or 10 items on the half off lunch items to pick from and they offer a few different sides.

We mostly sit at the bar although they have a wonderful patio. They have a few rotating bartenders throughout the week. All of the bartenders are kind, attentive and sweet. They do a great job keeping a large bar front and tables surrounding the bar happy. Because the bar staff is so on top of their game it really keeps us coming back. Keep up the good work!

I came here for lunch yesterday with a friend. A lot of their sandwiches and lunch plates are half price between 11-2 so we tried to order by 2. She must have put our orders in the system at 2:01, because they weren't discounted. I feel like it would have been a nice thing for her to mention to us.
I got the Philly Fanatic cheesesteak. We both ordered rare and it came out medium well. Don't ask for a temp if you're going to ignore it! This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I did really like the super battered, crispy fries, though.
The mugs for beer are really small. I probably won't go back unless there is a special reason.

We do happy hour here most months and it's OK. The service is at times very poor but of late the wait staff has improved.

Decent food, good beer selection. Middle of the road type of place that will do in a pinch.

You all know the story about the man who fell out of an airplane and there was a haystack below him.  The Sports Grill in East Greenbush is a similar tale of the fortunate and the unfortunate. So here goes:

Fortunately - the Sports Grill is perched on a hill giving the patio and the back windows an awesome view of Albany and the mountains behind it.

Unfortunately - when the patio gets busy which is most of the time in nice weather, the wait staff can't keep up.

Fortunately - the kitchen puts out orders almost as fast as they come in.

Unfortunately - your food will probably languish on the slide getting cold while your server is running around on the floor.

Fortunately - they offer 2 for 1 drafts every evening - all evening, weekends too.

Unfortunately - those two drafts come in  10 ounce mugs; about the same amount total as an imperial pint served in Swifty's Delmar and other places.

Fortunately - they have a great selection of draft beers.

Unfortunately - they pour them into chilled mugs, killing the taste of anything that was good.

Fortunately - some if the food I think is good such as salads, salmon, wings and chili.

Unfortunately - there are some clinkers such as the rib-eye and other things you might want.

Fortunately - the owner is a hands-on guy and is usually there overseeing things.

Unfortunately - he can't be everywhere at once.

Fortunately - the prices for all of this are reasonable.

Unfortunately - for you to have a happy experience here, things have to fall into place just right.

What to give it? Well I keep going back so it must be O.K.  Therefore, 3 stars it is.

Two for one price beers...always...who does that?  My steak sandwich, recommended by the owner, was phenomenal.  Wings were about best I've had and beer was cold!  Excellent bartenders and the owner, Tom, hangs at the bar making sure all is good.  And it is good!

I also want to add that the Sports Grill includes special deals on Living Social - great value!

If you want to have a quick lunch, then the Sports Grill is not where you want to go. The food is so so, but the service is awful .I continue to go back hoping it will get better, but I think my attempts are over. During my last visit we had a group of 15 people who work close by and were looking for a place to grab a lunch. We arrived and waited 1.5 hours for our food and 3 of the 15 people had hair in their food. Not impressed.

I'd come here for a beer and view but I've waited over an hour for food! That and I've waited 10 minutes just to be seated- and waitstaff walked right by. So annoying!

Not a bad place. They had decent steaks, affordable prices, good service, plenty of room, and great drink specials. I had a side of clams with my steak and they were breaded nicely, reminded me of a thicker Raising Canes breading although it was a little saltier. It's also conveniently located in the same parking lot as Holiday Inn so if you're lucky you can pick up their free wifi

I don't know why, but I always forget about this place, which is too bad, because it's a pretty nice place to eat.... I agree with another reviewer who said that it loses some points for not having the thing that makes it distinct from a chain. However, I think the food is a bit better than a typical chain restaurant. It offers a wide variety, it's decently priced, it has a good beer selection, and, (and this is the kicker) it has a beautiful, beautiful view on the outdoor patio. Great place to grab some drinks or a meal and sit outside... worth going to just for that aspect.

*shrug* Ya know...it's a sports bar. It files among the ranks of Applebees, Chili's, and Fridays. That being said, half priced lunch specials appeal to my wallet; my grilled veggie sandwich and tomato soup were just over $4.

My friend started with wings, and I tried one. Okay, those suckers are good...but they're deep fried for crying out loud. Even deep fried shoe leather can be delicious.

The bread on my sandwich was very buttery, and the veggies were drowned in cheese and some sort of sauce. Again, tasty, but in a way that makes me feel guilty for liking it...like the feeling you get after you come out of a romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and you actually *liked* it.

And there you have it, the Sports Grill is an Ashton Kutcher movie. That analogy sums it up nice and tight, I think.

we come here a lot due to the fact that it is so close to work and they can accomodate large groups of people. sadly those are really the only reasons. the food is usually just blah but this week it was worse. we got there early on purpose as we had over 10 people and needed to keep it to around an hour. the reservation was made 2 days before so they had time to prepare.... (yes, you can see it coming)

it took 50 minutes to get our food. and then the fish that i shared with laurie was VILE. the chemical taste had to have been from it going off. i didn't dare order anything else as i didn't have another 50 min.

there was a sign near the register behind us that gave Notice to the employees stating that they had 3 strikes. no texting or after the 3rd strike they were out. i am thinking that perhaps this didn't pertain to the cook.

but sigh. likely we will come again as they can fit us all. would some other place nearby with better food Please put an extension on?

on a sep note, as a place to come drink, during the summer i would give them a 4 star review as they have an amazing patio with a lovely view. this is why they have 3 vs 2 stars.

I don't understand the bad reviews for this place. We used to live right down the road so I've had 10 or 12 meals at this place and every one has been good. It's such an unassuming place that it kind of takes you by suprise. Just looks like a typical sports bar near a hotel. The difference to me is a) probably the best outdoor seating in the area with a great view, and b) the food really is prepared well. I'm not saying this is authentic, made-from-scratch home cooking, but it is a step above a chain restaurant. This place is worth stopping for the good food and the great view.

Alright so a little while ago I did finally come here to eat and it was...not too bad. Infact so not bad I've been here a couple times since!

It's about Chili's quality as far as the food goes. Btw, I like Chilis that's not intended to be an insult but if you told me this was a franchise with hundreds of Sports Grills around the country...I wouldn't say "Aww Naw way! Wud never susspect dat! Not with that homemade taste they offer..."

Anyways, they have some cheap eats(1 App and 2 dinners for $20 off a special menu) and all the beers (and they do have some decent ones on tap) are two for 1. Yes, they come in those smallish mugs that are not pints but whatever. WHAT-TEVA!

They have a ton of cheap costing creatively named sports themed mixed drinks for my girlfriend to enjoy. The couple times we were here she got the "New York Jets Lemonade",  it's made with Grey Goose vodka and is only $5. Now that's a deal!

The food isn't fine dining in fact it's only just O--K. But consider the facts jack! The grub is soo cheap, the beer is priced right,  they offer a number reasonably priced fun mixed drinks for my lady friend and...oh yea there's a spectacular view of the Albany Skyline from an outdoor patio; this place is a solid 4 star joint.

    P.S.
The last time I was here, (it was a nice summer Friday evening) they had trivia going on out on the patio and they were giving out free stuff to anyone who answered correctly! PRETTY COOOL.

If you're looking for a variety of beer and tv's to watch the game, then feel free to check this place out. If, however, you're looking for decent food I'd recommend you look elsewhere. Their menu is reminiscent of some Frankenstein-combination of Applebees, Chillis, and TGIFridays, but without the appeal or the skill to prepare the food well. I might stop in here for a quick beer with friends because it's close to where I live, but I wouldn't ever go out of my way to eat here.

I've come to the Sports Grill for lunch and dinner many times for their wide beer selection, delicious burgers and awesome view of the Albany skyline, Helderberg and Catskill mountains.

I couldn't give it 5 stars, though, because it lacks the distinction between a local restaurant and a food chain.

Nothing particularly special about anything here.  Service is OK, decor is OK, and I haven't tried the food, but the bottled beer options make me a happy camper.

Based on some of the other reviews, clearly I go there on a good night! I usually go on Tuesdays for trivia night and have some dinner with some work friends. We were going every Tuesday for a few months back in the summer into the fall, and most often we had a waiter, Brandon - who always gave us superb service. We have had problems with some others being slow, or not coming over to check if we need anything, but Brandon is always attentive, brings refills right away, always checks in. Trivia night is a blast - definitely worth going once to see how you do!
The bacon cheese fries are great, and a regular fry is just as good. I have also had a cheeseburger with bbq sauce and that was delicious, cooked right, and nice and hot and juicy when it got to me. They also have a brownie dessert which is yum yum yum! I wouldnt say travel from the farthest reaches to come here, but its still good enough that if you are a local, you should at least check it out once!

I agree with the other reviewer that sometimes it's hit or miss here but lately it's been HIT!  Everyone is super friendly, the service is great and the food is really good.  I can't get enough of their tomato basil soup!  They won "Wing Wars" with their Gold Medal wings and those are great too!  We frequent this place at least once a week.  The deck is phenomenal in the summer.

huge menu, trying to maybe cover too many plates.. most the time its hit or miss. i think the outdoor seating is great. there's no where to eat on rt 4 so i guess thats why i go there from time to time.

okay, I've given this place a couple of tries now since I often stay at the hotel next door when I travel for work.  I hate to say it, but the food is really not good here.  In fact, I'd say it truly sucks.

The last time I ate here, I was with five other people.  We asked the server what she thought were the best items on the menu and she recommended the cheese-steak, chicken tenders and the turkey sandwich....

We all ordered a variety of dishes, including her three recommendations and ALL of them were not so good.  I ordered the cheese-steak and I think it was worse than the steakumm sandwiches that were served by the school cafeteria when I was in elementary school - the fries were not good either.  Everyone at the table was rather unhappy with their meal.

I think I would only come back to hang out for a drink on the back deck, which actually has a rather pleasant view of the valley.  It's not such a bad way to unwind a bit at the end of the day-after having dinner somewhere else.
