Great salads and burgers. Definitely a lunch place. Not sure about eating dinner there.

Stopped in for lunch when I informed my lunch companions that I wanted a tasty salad. Once we entered, I immediately liked the atmosphere. It had a great college nostalgia feel to it, and I'm sure it would be a great place to have a beer an burger after work. If you want to eat here for lunch though, I'd suggest not coming at noon unless you want to wait for 10 minutes for a seat. On top of that, it's a seat yourself deal, and two "gentleman" who came in after us cut in front of us and snagged the table for which we were waiting. Thankfully, another had opened up at the same time, so no harm no foul.

After we sat down, we probably waited another 10 minutes simply to get a server at our table. More on the server in a bit...When we finally got the opportunity to order, I chose the soup (lentil) and salad (garden add turkey and cheese with the balsamic-oil dressing) combo. The lentil soup was underwhelming unfortunately. As for the salad, it was served in a metal bowl that must have been bottomless, I swear. I don't even know if I made it through half the salad. I loved the sunflower seeds in the salad but felt the dressing was way too oil-heavy.

As for our server, I first understood her being busy as it was a lunch rush. We came at the end of that rush, however, so half of our visit occurred in a rather dead dining establishment. Despite the lull, our service remained rather disappointing both with respect to speed and attitude. There's not much to say beyond the fact that it was clear the server was annoyed to be serving us.

Overall, this wasn't a bad joint, but I think I'd opt for carryout in the future if I'm hankering for a salad at lunch.

The daily soups are usually pretty good.  Sandwiches are decent.  What brings me back is the service.  The lady who works lunches during the week is very fast, extremely organized and gets us in and out within 30-40 minutes everytime.  They do need to get wi-fi however.

Salads are unbelievable!!  I love the Cajun chicken.

Man, I I had a little bit of cognitive dissonance deciding to write this review, but I had to shed light on the worst dining service I've ever had in my life, especially since I'm writing as an extremely disappointed loyal customer and not an unrealistically picky and offended one-time visitor.

I've been to St. Mike's a ton while I've lived in Springfield and always raved about it to friends and family. So, naturally, when my three good friends and I were trying to decide where to eat for dinner last night, I took the opportunity to recommend St. Mike's. None of them had ever been there before, so I insisted on it over our other favorite local dives, which we realized were also undoubtedly busy. We got to St. Mikes after restaurant-hopping for a while and were seated pretty quickly, but that was literally where the positives of this experience ended, apart from our waiter, who was painfully nice and extremely apologetic. Because I was a waitress once (and a terrible one, might I add), our waiter is pardoned from this review. I felt really bad for him.

We got there around 6:15 and didn't leave until 7:30, and that includes not eating our food. The space between receiving our menus, getting our drinks ordered, receiving our drinks, getting our food ordered, and receiving our food was pretty excruciating. Although we got a few updates from our waiter in the span of over an hour that our order was nearly done (although I think it was either forgotten at one point or pushed back for other folks' orders), I finally had to get up and ask that we get it to-go, as we had somewhere else to be. We watched other tables who came in after us receive their orders before ours, which is the worst. When we finally got our orders boxed up, we were told we would receive some kind of discount for the wait, but in the end, all we got was our drinks taken off our order. I wasn't appeased by this in the least because all our orders were separate and two of us just got water. Hence, no discount.

In a rush and our moods all but spoiled, we took our food to our destination to eat it there, only to open our boxes and find that we didn't even get our sides with what we ordered. In a last-ditch effort to give some credibility back to one of my favorite places to eat, I asked them what they thought of the food (particularly one of them who truly appreciates a good meal and a local one at that) and their collective response was "Meh." After all that, the food was 'meh.' Case closed.

I couldn't apologize enough to my friends who were disappointed by St. Mike's per my recommendation, so I amended to call the restaurant and explain what happened to a manager. So, I called and requested to talk to one not an hour after we left, but the person on the other end said there was no manager there. What? No manager on a busy Saturday night? I wanted to curl up in the fetal position after I hung up.

Instead of calling back this morning, I wondered instead what the point of that would be. For free stuff? I don't want free stuff. I'm not into doing that. My friends and I had talked about all the possible (well, probable) reasons for why we had had such terrible service: they had a new guy cooking (which had been explained to us last night); they were out of supplies (which was apparent); they were short-staffed (which was also apparent); and so on. But none of that made me feel better. In my eyes, a place I'm going to love on and recommend to my friends over all of the big-wig chain businesses that are scattered over this city like a rash need to earn that from me and maintain it. It had been earned years ago, shakily maintained since, and then stomped.

I understand that last night was a bad night for them. I've been there, man. Trust me. But when you're having a bad night at your restaurant and you know it, you need to work extra hard to make amends with the customers you KNOW you're disappointing. All we got was disappointment piled on more disappointment, and why? Because we were clearly college kids with no agenda whose dining experience didn't matter as much as the families or older folks in there? I'm sick of that mentality. We're the ones who want to support local business most and we deserve equal attention, damnit. Also, being totally unprepared for a Saturday night rush is excusable for a place that's new and still getting on its feeble feet, but this place has been here for years. Handling a rush should be perfected by now. A reasonably long wait is expected by most, but nobody should be expected to wait like we did or pay full price for what we did. Or be cool with it, either.

It goes without saying, but my friends are never going to go back there, so the extra care we didn't get and the apathy we did get cost this place both my friends' future business and my personal affection and recommendation. The food, in my opinion, is good, but good local food is everywhere in this city at places that will take more care.

Sports Bar is the perfect name!  Friendly staff that recognize the faces time and time again.

Great burgers!  Portion sizes are more than ample, I usually have a hard time finishing. Prices are good too, never hurts the pocket book and i leave full and happy.

Good selection of food, wraps, salads, burgers, clubs etc.

It does get long on the wait time if you arrive around noon; lunch rush is a killer, but no one is perfect.

Good go to when you want lots of choices and don't want to break the pocket book.

Love the staff, love the choices, good service this is my solid go to! Going today.

I want the Italian Deli sign for my basement, its a great spot, not an Italian Deli.

Great sandwiches and desserts.  They were experimenting with Onion rings....Hope they make the menu because they are worthy.  Loads of decor, not sure what the school decor has to do with the fare, but I liked the visit and will return.

WHAT HAPPENED?! We went for lunch a couple of weeks ago on a Friday. Got there at about 11am. We were a party of 5 and all got the salad (I used to get cravings for their grilled chicken salad). My sister and I had heard the fries were good, so we got a basket to share as an app. The fries were a few notches below McDonald's. Obviously frozen sticks of blandness. Our salads came out and it too was very bland. The dressing used to be an oil vinegar base like an italian dressing, but this just tasted like vegetable oil. The chicken was tough and not fresh and was also not seasoned. I asked for a side of parmesan cheese just to liven it up a bit. Overall very disappointing. Plus to add insult to injury, after we finished our salads, I looked down into our basket of fries and noticed a black hair, we're blondes. By this time the restaurant was so busy our waitress went MIA (she was the only one waiting on tables!) WE WON'T BE BACK.

Finally tried St. Michael's out for lunch and was super impressed. I ordered the Caribbean Chicken Salad as recommended by another yelper and was glad I did. It was extremely large, like metal mixing bowl large, and soo delicious. It had lots of perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken, delicious tomatoes, sunflower seeds, and Gorgonzola. I had it with the house dressing, a balsamic vinaigrette, which I also really liked. The salads all come with a little loaf of bread, which was nice, because this meal was exactly what I had been craving.

My coworker had the turkey and portabello mushroom wrap which was huge. She reported that it was delicious and was pleased with the large serving sizes of each ingredient in the wrap.

Will definitely go back to try out more of the menu and that banana cake!

The food at St. Michaels is very good.

I ordered a Salmon Sandwich to go (please do not try to eat the sandwiches while walking or sneak it into the movie theater, for they are large and everyone will know exactly that your not eating.....popcorn).
It was DELICIOUS, and I was not about to throw it away in the name of proper  theater etiquette.

Everyone else's food looked equally as delicious, and the soups are a nice way to open your appetite.

The service was prompt and did a nice job explaining the menu. I will def. go back if I'm ever in downtown Springfield.

I always, always, ALWAYS have to get the salami sandwich with fries when I come here. It's just too good to pass up and everytime I think I want to try something different, "salami sandwich with fries" just comes out of my mouth instead!

Perhaps it's not the absolute best restaurant you can find in Springfield, but every time I come back to my college town, it's a must-have.

The atmosphere is perfect for socializing and they seat groups well. I've spent many hours here laughing and eating. I've been told the beer selection is quite good (though I wouldn't know from personal experience) and the house salads are amazing. I do know that from personal experience!

Downtown Springfield has a lot to offer and St. Michael's is just one of many gems there.

There really isn't much about St. Michael's worth praising. The food is mediocre and a tad overpriced. The atmosphere is bland with a hint of pretentious. I will say the service is generally pretty solid, though.

This place is one of my favorite casual restaurants in Springfield.  Everything I've had is good, but IMO the Caribbean Chicken Salad (or Cajun if you are in the mood) is the best salad in Springfield.  And for desert, there is NO better cake than the Banana Cake!  Trust me on this - you have not lived if you have not had St. Michael's Banana Cake!!!

    Times Eaten-many
A very nice place to stop and grab some well prepared "American" style food; chicken, burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads. The soups are home-made and very tasty. The salads are exactly as the early reviews stated, which you do get a lot of. I usually get a bacon cheeseburger or the roast beef au-jours. They offer an interesting style of french fries, with jerk or garlic seasoning. Stop by if you are in the mood and can handle eating a large amount of food, like Tom Petty, and love sports decor. Oh yeah, get a side of their Sweet Onion kettle chips. They are seriously the best chips I've ever had.

Easily one of the best "unknowns" -- relatively speaking -- in all of Springfield. I am an MSU alumnus, and whenever my wife and I go back to Springfield, we always make sure to hit up St. Michael's.

For starters, I highly recommend ordering their chicken club sandwich. The chicken is cooked perfectly to where it is still moist but not pink. It's then topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and what I believe to be thousand-island dressing. With all of that placed between a toasted, sesame seed bun, this ends up being one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.

When you order a sandwich, be sure to substitute a house salad for your fries (though these are very tasty, as well). Their house salad is absolutely amazing: lettuce topped with feta cheese, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, and a vinaigrette dressing = Awesome.

Also, this is a great place to stop in and have a beer, as they have a pretty decent selection of brews for the beer snob in your group.

To sum up, if you're ever in Springfield and in search of a good, inexpensive meal, give St. Michael's a try.
