Sitting next to a hotel, this place is kind of tucked back off the street, so if you're not REALLY looking, you'll pass it up....GPS doesn't do a very good job of getting you there. Â Once there, parking was a NIGHTMARE. Â And this was on a Wednesday, not a weekend. Â I had to park around on the other side of the hotel and walk around. Â And I'm not really sure why parking was so crazy, because it really wasn't that busy once I got inside....weird. Â
Inside, I was seated immediately, and my server, Stephen, was quick to get me my half-price bottle of wine (every Weds!), and checked back on me frequently while I was waiting for my friend. Â In the background, I was able to hear some nice acoustic music, although I couldn't see the performer from where I was sitting. Â They did appear to have a nice bar, although I didn't go near it. Â
My friend and I opted for pizza, and I will say that it was very good, although they didn't do a very good job of cutting it. Â Their pizza is a rectangle, cut into squares, but they didn't bother to cut all the way through the crust, so we had to use our knives and pull, which ended up as a cheesy mess. Â But at least it was a very tasty cheesy mess. Â
Overall, I had a very good experience here, and Stephen is an awesome server.....very friendly and attentive, and made some great recommendations. Â Should I find myself back in the area, I could see myself stopping back in.
I don't really visit pubs often, so I may not have the best perspective on pub quality food and ambiance. But, compared to  pubs that I have been too, this one is pretty quite nice looking. I went during lunch, and the  dining is fairly open, airy and clean with a lot of light. I got a simple ordered a burger with fries. The burger was big (I think 1/2 lb uncooked) and it was cooked the way I asked for. The burger roll could have been a little more substantial to match the patty though. Overall, a good burger. The fries were a little strange .... they seem like bigger versions of the old Burger King fries (the ones with the outside coating that seems a little unnatural). They tasted OK, but were a little strange and also the amount of fries was lacking. Service was good ... the waitress was attentive and came by periodically to make sure we were doing well.
Overall a good experience. Not sure I would come back on my own will, but would certainly not mind coming if someone suggested to meet here.
Frank is an awesome waiter!
Sat outside with some friends and ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. I got the grapefruit crush which is freshly squeezed, yum! So refreshing. We all ordered a side salad with the zinfandel wine dressing, to share: the white pizza, crab dip and pomegranate wings.
The zinfandel wine dressing was ahhhmaaazing. I need that recipe (and it was low fat!)
The white pizza was delish, one of my favorite pizzas.
The crab dip was so creamy but not gravy like how it can be sometimes, really good!
I was a little nervous about the pomegranate wings but they were delish! They were just wings with the pomegranate sauce but it was surprisingly good, glad I tried them.
We sat outside on a beautiful sunny, spring day and it was great. I'll be back.
Nice evening with Michelle and Becky. started with a couple of appetizers to share, the the Asian Sampler and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip. the dip was served piping hot with fresh tortilla chips. the dip itself was good once it cooled a bit. the sampler was a bit uneven, the tempura shrimp was nicely done, Margi enjoyed the pot stickers and the bone i had with the entire meal was the seared tuna was awfully cold to be just seared, the accompanying mustard was fantastic. Michelle and Becky shared a pizza, looked good and they raved about it. Margi got a shrimp wrap, again a thumbs up. i got the gumbo which for the most part was excellent with the exception of peas in it, substituting okra would have made it superior. good company, decent draft beer selection. good company, good food, good grog, a good evening!
Review Source:We came for the wings, came back for the pizza and will be back for the beer. Â It seems to be a great little neighborhood pub where they run all of their beers on nitrogen. Â That means smaller bubbles and that means creamy smooth beers regardless of who brewed them. Â While interogating the evening manager, we also learned they never freeze their proteins -- food much better that we expected when we discovered there was a Best Western in their parking lot! Â
Oh, and the wife insists that the Ranch Dressing "ROCKS!"
My family is hard to please. Vegetarians, allergies, toddlers, teenagers, and healthy dieters. Â Finding a place to eat that works for all is complicated. Â We ended up here based on the large menu and atmosphere. Â I ordered the crab cakes, which was a mistake. Â It was average at best. Â The potatoes were in edible but the veggies were good. Â The pizza was well received. Â My toddler was drowned out by the tv's and other guests. Â It worked and our server was friendly. Â I don't see myself coming back regularly. Â It's just not my kind of place.
Review Source:Interesting cross between a hotel bar, a neighborhood bar, and a after-work hangout place.
When we checked in at the Best Western next door, we didn't want to order pizza so we tried the Stained Glass. Â It was packed and as my wife and I watched, it was obvious that most of the people worked nearby and had stopped off to cut loose for the weekend. Â The wait staff was obviously overwhelmed but trying their best to get everyone taken care of. Â And the food is definitely a cut above what you would expect for a hotel restaurant.
Saturday, after a long day on the Washington Mall, we stopped by and the whole ambiance was different. Â Much quieter and more people who were there from the hotel to grab a quick bite and head back to their rooms. Â We had the Irish Nachos (thumbs way up!) and stayed to play the quiz games on the television.
Stopped by on Monday for a dessert and the ambiance had changed again. Â The wait staff seemed to know everyone who was there and were constantly taking time to engage patrons in conversations. Â
For a hotel restaurant/bar, you could do a heck of a lot worse.
This restaurant specializes in food that is only slightly above pub fare. Â The service is non-descript, as is the bar and decor. Â I have visited the Stained Glass Pub several times over a few years, and have vowed to not return each time. Â I keep going back only because it is the closest full serve facility to my home. Â My most recent trip, a few weeks back, once again left me wanting. Â If I was staying at the adjacent hotel as a traveler, I might consider it. Â But, being a local, I can find better quite easily.
I had two related disappointments during my most recent experience. Â First, I asked the server if the restaurant served calimari. Â After informing me that they do, I ordered a serving to share with my party. Â When it was delivered, the serving size was not commensurate with the price, and half of the "calimari" was comprised of battered and fried peppers. Â When I complained to the server, her response was, "Didn't you read the description?" Â Well, if I had seen the description, I wouldn't have asked if the restaurant served this item, would I? Â After complaining about this at least twice, she still failed to take any action. Â Her tip suffered, as will any future recommendations I have for this establishment.
This is the place to go when you want to avoid the parking fights and long walks at Anne Arundel Mall. Â Just a mile away and hidden away so always room for you and your party.
This is an Irish themed bar with some good Irish plates but they have just about everything to include pizza and sandwiches on pretzel rolls. Â I've been here several times and the service at the bar is always good. Â They have multiple TV's up around the bar area with usually just baseball on. Â I don't think I've ever seen them put a basketball game on. Â
The one down side is probably going to be the shapre of the bar. Â It's kinda like a jagged "L" and if you sit at one end of the bar, you can't people at the other end. So if you want to be social and meet people, you have to sit in the very center of the bar.
Definitely worth checking out.
I've read positive reviews about this place so I gave them several chances by coming back and ordering something else.
Visit #1: crab dip - was mostly cream cheese and I don't think there was any crab in it at all. Total disappointment. Server was friendly but rarely seen.
Visit #2: place was very crowded. We were sat at what appeared to be the only empty table. After a few minutes I understood why. The air vent was blasting freezing cold air right at us. As soon as a closeby table opened up we moved ourselves. Couldn't complain to the server, he wasn't seen for about 20 min. And I couldn't take the cold anymore. I ordered the crab cake and it was one of the best I ever had. I was about 3/4 done when I discovered underneath it was a long blond hair!!!! Certainly wasnt mine, I'm a brunette! When my server FINALLY showed up again I let him know. He apologized profusely and said he would remove it from our check and send the manager out. Â Oh, on top of this, my first drink was made incorrectly. I asked for coconut rum (Malibu) and coke. I was given rum and coke. I was very specific telling the server what I wanted. Instead of bringing me a new correct drink, he left to ask the bartender what he gave me and they insisted it was coconut rum. Whatever. I just drank it. What seemed like an hour later, since service was so slow, I had a second drink, and it was the correct drink. I guess they think they're slick? Anyhow, by the time our bill came, we still hadn't seen a manager and he did not take my meal off. He was lucky I wasn't in a bad mood. I really tried to keep my cool. I tweeted a photo of the hair to the restaurant and I still to this day never heard from SGP.
Visit #3: (why do I come back? My husband likes their wings) I ordered the artichoke and spinach dip. It was gross and inedible. I have a photo of it I'd love to share. Disgusting. Had the same server at visit #2 and he was just as inattentive as ever.
My fiancé and I enjoy coming here for a last minute meal it is close to our house so we are able to catch the game and it's not too crowded. Food is ok, it's simple bar food I enjoy the cream of crab soup. Have not had there crab cake in a while but from what I remember it was good. We actually might do our rehearsal dinner here for our spring wedding.
Review Source:Service was pleasant and outdoor eating area was very nice.  Three cheese pizza, however, left a lot to be desired.  It was hot, but loaded with flavorless cheese and the tomatoes and basil were almost non-existent.  It was very greasy for a pizza that  should have been somewhat fresh tasting.  Luke not recommend but not sure of the rest of the menu.
Review Source:I'd seen a few Valpak coupons for this place so I decided to give it a try on a recent Friday night. I suddenly remembered this was THE Stained Glass Pub I grew up passing on Layhill Road. It was always a litlle divey looking so I don't know if I ever even ate there. But I will never forget the name.
Well, this place looks a little better because it's tucked in a corner right across from a motel. Gives off more of a friendly neighborhood family joint vibe. However, when I stepped through the double doors, I could see it was all sports bar. A-ok with me! There was a 30 minute wait, so this place is pretty popular with the HoCo locals. If I didn't have a minor with me, I would've grabbed a table in the bar area.
The server was great and let us look over the extensive menu for a bit. They do it all from greasy bar food, to pizza, to Chicken Marsala. We decided on wings and pizza. It was not bad, but not the best either. I really didn't like they brought out the pan with a dirty rag. I get it's hot but please don't leave that on the table! YUCK! That really turned my stomach. Anyhow, the baby boy loved it. My wings were too deep fried. I'd try another appetizer the next time. And next time, I'll go with some friends for the bar experience.
I recently found the Stained Glass pub and really like it. The service was good and the food was awesome.
The breakdown:
Irish nachos: fried potatoes w/ cheese, bacon & green onions were amazing. I'm not sure what cheese they used but it was very tasty.
Steak & Cheese sub: aka a cheese steak was good but what was better than the sandwich were the best crispy fries. Btw: the meal comes w/ chips but for some amount you can sub the fries.
Pub Club: Bacon, Turkey, Ham & Cheese oh my!! Although this wasn't my meal, I couldn't help but snag a bite. Its really good and I could see that being the best sandwich on the menu.
2nd visit breakdown---
Chicken quesadilla : yum! not smashed down w/ tomatoes
Patty Melt: Okay so I said the pub club was the best thing but the patty melt was delicious. The 1/2 lb burger was cooked perfectly to medium well and the toasted rye bread just made everything alot better.
So after two great dinners & two awesome servers (eek! i'm bad with names), I'll be back.
This is our local pub, so we go there more frequently because it's close. They do very good business, it's often hard to find a parking spot and a seat at the bar. They have a good selection of beers on tap and the staff are very friendly.
They have a good selection of appetizers and the pizza is my personal fave. There's not a whole lot of vegetarian options. They do have a veggie sub. It's not on the menu anymore, but still in their system.
If you go early enough to get a seat, it'd be a good place to watch football. We personally enjoy going to play Keno.
I went here to have a glass (that ended up being 2) of wine when I got stuck in the BWI area for a night due to a delayed flight out of boston in which I missed my connection. I am basing this on a 10ish pm visit to the bar only. Didn't have any food so can't judge on that. It was fairly quiet. The couple of bartenders that were working seemed to know the "locals" visiting the bar. So I stood out in my tired worn out worked an 8 hour day had a holiday lunch floor party where I ate to much and drank to much at the airport before I boarded my very late plan kind of tired look. Bartender that waited on me tried to make some conversation, was friendly but picked up that I was tired and just trying to de-stress so ended up leaving me alone. If I ever get stuck at BWI again I would stay at the hotel next door and go here again for sure.
Review Source:Been here once for dinner and twice for drinks and late-night food. Â They had a homemade blueberry pie in the summer that was surprisingly good. Â My wife loved it and raved about it to everyone.
We started coming here lately on Sunday evenings after our volleyball league since teams get beer pitcher specials. Â You have to sign your team up for it and be in uniform. Â The late-night menu is pretty standard but good: chicken wings, chicken strips and fries, cheesy crab pretzels, and crab dip with bread.
It's located next to a Best Western. Â Good place to come watch some sports on TV. Â The parking lot is tiny though so that's my only real complaint. Â No restrooms on the main level; you have to walk downstairs where there is also an ATM.
I went there for happy hour on a Friday night. Â Good crowd. Â Busy, but not too packed. Â Great happy hour prices on food an drinks. Â The food was great! Â We had the cheeseburger sliders, onion rings and crab dip were awesome! Â The bartenders were very nice and quick to get our food and drinks, despite being busy. Â I will definitely go here again!!!
Review Source:Were invited to meet friends here. Seems there is a Trivia Tuesday at the pub and they frequent it often. Short a few players because of summer vacation we thought it would be fun to give it a try. We did have a good time and actually came in second place. It was quite organized and the people we were with knew the whole procedure. Each round the questions increased in value with a half time list for extra points and a final question like Final Jeopardy where you could risk it all.
The categories were scattered....from sports, to cartoons, to politics so it was good to have the diverse group we had. You can have up to 6. It started at 8 and ended around 10. We enjoyed ourselves.
The bar is quite large extending almost the whole back of the room. Service was not good. We waited along with another person for a bartender to place an order as we were early, and never did get a beer or have anyone come to see what we wanted. The restaurant tables are all seated in small areas separate from each other arranged out from the bar which is the main focus. A little too boxy for me! Â The stain glass was a nice touch.
During the game we drank some drafts which were reasonably priced at $3.25, At happy hour they are half off. ..but the pizzas were high off all night. We ordered a mushroom pizza and it was ok. It came in a large rectangular pan blopped on our table. The large pizza was enough to feed three of us with some slices left over. The crust was thin and was very tasty. It reminded me of Ledo's pizza. It was around  $17 and I was jubilant it was half price. Not worth full price.
The bar was crowded. It was noisy and lots of tvs on playing sports. Don't know why but the O;s game was not on. Guess cause the Nats were on and we are close to the Washington area. But we asked our waiter and he came by after asking for the second time and changed it for us.
I dont know if they are understaffed or what but we were constantly looking for our waiter. Asking another waitress to find him or yell as he went by. We had to ask for everything. They never checked on us to see if we needed another beer or more water or whatever.
This was fun but it is probably a one shot deal here. If we did go again it would be Trivia night with friends and the half price pizza. I would not go there to eat dinner  as there are too many other choices around in this area of much better eateries. But for a restaurant across the parking lot from a Best Western it is not bad.
Was staying at the Best Western next door and too lazy to drive elsewhere. Â Mistake! Well, two mistakes.
Sportsbar, so it was loud über-slow service. Had hamburger. Good. Onion rings good. Fries, battered kind. Yuck. Average food -- kinda pricey.
Beer: hard to mess up Yuengling!
Second night, went with friends; better wait staff, but... They messed up the orders. Had a pizza because the ones others had night before were good. Friend ordered hers with light saucek I had normal. Guess what they did... Yep -- my pizza was unedible. Never again. I should of went to Outback or TGI Fridays... Next time I will drive. And really, sports bars are overdone -- too loud, so you can't hear (what's the point in watching?) And they won't turn on captions. This was worse, they had CNN on and as it was right after Japanese tsunami... Guess what was on -- mmmmm, I sure wanna watch bodies, suffering and disaster as I dine.
Not bad at all!! 3.5 actually.... if i had that option. (Tho our server Sue is a 5 star for sure).
We got the margherita pizza (sp?). Lots mozzarella cheese!! yum!! The thin crust was ok. Not the greatest I've tasted, but still pretty good.
I also had the seafood gumbo. I've only ever had gumbo once before and it was A-mazing... so I can't in good conscience, give this one a 5. BUT it was still pretty good! 4 or 5 jumbo shrimp, and chicken and beef and sausage = yum! It was a little too salty for my taste, but it's over a bed of rice so that definitely help bring it down a notch.
The atmosphere is... it's a sports bar! whaddya expect. Loud and lively and a little crowded. But it wouldn't be a sports bar if it wasn't the way it was.
Our server, Sue, was very attentive and most definitely deserves a 5 star. Always made sure we were ok without being overbearing. Â =)
Yay SGP! you are A-OK!
Good food. Â Friendly atmosphere, plenty of TVS to watch your sport of choice.... Â Good beer selection.
Downside: Â understaffed. Â or staff are undertrained? Â Getting service is not easy. Â A little loud for me, but in the arena of sports bars, really not bad at all (I could stand to be in there, which is the bar for me).
Very disappointed at my lunch choice. 3 of us stopped by from the office and got two good meals. I chose a daily special: grilled cheese with chicken and bacon on sourdough. Sounded good.
First impression- there was a round buttery grease "spot" in the middle of the (stale) bread slice that soaked in enough to cause the bread to fall apart at the center. The butter was not spread evenly, it was obviously a melon scoop size dollop placed on it and then  grilled long enough to melt but not toast, and of course it did not melt to the edges, so the middle was over-greased.
I'm not done. I don't complain lightly.
Ready for this? The bacon was between raw and rare. It had been warmed, not cooked. Â I removed it.
The chicken was good, but now covered in bacon grease.
Never going back.
You want the best indicator of how good the food is going to be at a bar food type joint then sample the ranch dressing. Â Normally how the ranch goes the food follows behind and SGP very well may have the best ranch ive ever had. Â
Their chicken tenders which are basically like eating bonless fried chicken are amazing and the best option when considering what you will be putting in the ranch. Â The tenders are not breaded and flat like at many places. Â They are really crispy and super delicious.
The pizza is simply outrageous and the best non NY/North Jersey pizza I have had. Â I would actually say it's as good but it's so different. Â Shaped like a Sicilian pie but with a much thinner crust. Â It goes really well with about a hundred pitchers of beer.
I won't pretend to know a whole lot about the rest of the menu as the items I have mentioned are essentially all I ever get. Â Though I will say don't sleep on the crab dip, its excellent in its own right. Â
The SGP walks like your typical chain restaurant, talks like your typical chain restaurant but definitely doesn't taste like a typical chain restaurant. Â Think some of the best bar food you will ever have.
I work right up the street from Stained Glass Pub. Â Obviously, this was the first factor in my decision to visit this restaurant. Â We all know that proximity isn't always the best excuse to eat out, but this isn't the reason I return so often. Â While the look may be similar, Stained Glass offers so much more than any chain "Bar and Grille."
I do have to admit, this review is a bit biased. Â The reason? Â Stained Glass is a University of Florida Alumni Bar, and I am a Gator. Â They show every game, even pay-per-view. Â Not only that, but the pub offers half priced pizza on Mondays AND Tuesdays. Â The only thing that I love as much as the Gators, and my family, is pizza. Â Seriously. Â I have a problem. Â I get nauseous and start to itch when it's been a while between slices.
Stained Glass serves up rectangular pies in the style of Ledo Pizza. Â It stands to reason as this is the second location for Stained Glass. Â The first was in College Park, also the birthplace of Ledo. Â SGP is the ONLY place I ever look forward to ordering a pizza with pineapple. Â I usually don't think that particular sweet and savory mixture works well together, but the crust and sauce at SGP are sweeter than Ledo and most pizza parlors. Â This is the only reason it works. Â I highly suggest a pineapple and bacon pie when you visit. Â Trust me, you'll love it.
If you're not in the mood for pizza, Stained Glass offers up classic pub fare. Â If you're looking for something a bit unique, try the Pretzel Turkey. Â It's essentially a turkey club served on a pretzel roll. Â It's a great combo and despite the fact that I've seen it on a gas station Blimpie menu since, it's still worth it. Â Wash it down with a drink from their full bar.
It's ok, usually a bit over crowded. Not a really warm atmosphere, but it's ok. I would agree that it convenient if you're staying at the Best Western, but as an Elkridge local, it's probably one of the few ok places to visit.
Friends and I were disappointed that the music isn't great and that there isn't karaoke as advertised.
I'd also like to add that as I was staying at the Best Western for a friend's wedding on June 26th and we were getting dressed there, I was disappointed that the restaurant and hotel didn't work together to coordinate something refreshing for all 100 of us. I would have been nice to order a meal, or tray of food, or drinks for all of us.
