Ho man. Such a great local institution. In a basement with a solid dank factor. Cheap, well-made drinks with a slant toward classic cocktails (including Moscow Mules in copper mugs, like the good Lord intended). How do I convey the place's X factor, though? I just couldn't stop grinning like an idiot the whole time I was there. Way better than the "upscale" places in town. Dive bar prices with shabby-classy ambiance.

Starlite is hands-down my favorite bar in Lincoln. Love the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Friday night happy hours are the best. Huge discounts on martinis and free appetizers! I can drink three martinis and stuff my tummy for around $11.00. You can't beat that! Try the French 75, Ruby Red, or Audrey Hepburn. Yum!

The Starlite is a fun and retro bar. (Think '50's furniture and the Rat Pack) It's become a popular gathering place for my friends. The wait staff is down to earth and helpful if you have questions about drinks. They offer a full bar but they specialize in mixed drinks and hard liquor. They offer several brands of scotch as well.

Don't expect the drinks to come out instantly. When they are busy, they are BUSY. If you sit at the bar, you'll see how busy the bartenders are and you'll understand. With that, if you want to get your drinks quickly, try sitting at the bar.

They do have specials but not very often. They also have a trivia night which is very entertaining. You can order appetizers from the upstairs restaurant but don't expect to eat a meal. On the weekends, you can expect this place to be packed. The crowd can be very mixed, from college kids to retired couples.

Love this place! We usually go to the Haymarket for birthday dinners and then stop at the Starlite Lounge for a liquid dessert!

A fun, retro, kitschy lounge for a late-night cocktail with friends.

I've been here once on a weekday early evening. It was quite at that time, which was good, cause that's what I was looking for. I remember my drink being normally priced.

The cool thing about this place is the environment/decor. It's got a 50's feeling to it which is obviously unique. I would go back if I was in the area for something.

    Good place for a date!!!

I like the atmosphere of this place. It is definitely retro. Most of the martinis are amazing. The grasshopper is probably my favorite. You definitely need to catch it during the happy hours or you will be spending some dough on all the great martinis.

The Starlite lounge is somewhere we visit every trip to Lincoln.  I agree with several other reviews, this is probably my favorite place for drinks in Columbia.

We stumbled upon the SL one day while waiting upstairs for our table at Buzzard Billy's.  The Lounge, in the basement, in Haymarket is very dark and has a very retro feel.  Several neon signs and retro chairs help to set the ambiance.

They are known for their martinis.  They have LOTS of them and I haven't had a bad one yet! We try every time we go to try something new, but I always end up with my staples.  My absolute favorites are the Pomegranate and the Apple Crisp.  My husband's favorite drink isn't a martini but the Moscow mule.  The prices are reasonable, averaging anywhere from $5-6 a drink.

Until recently they have only had a few appetizer options.  Yesterday on our visit, they now have "gameday" food specials including appetizers and sandwiches.  We had the alligator on yesterday's visit, but often have the Velvet Elvis dip.  Yum yum!

They have several large tv's and attact fans of many different teams.  However, on a Saturday afternoon after a game - plan on the place being filled with red!

Enjoy your time and your drinks at the Starlite lounge.  I've had many many wonderful nights there!

Overall I enjoy this place.  The cocktails are usually decent, not great, but good. The general atmosphere is nice. Lincoln is one sports bar after another. It's nice to have a option like the Starlite. The service is hit and miss and I don't like it when the few TV's are playing football, but in Nebraska it's pretty much a given.

Best Manhattan I've had in town.  Friendly staff and with a pretty unique atmosphere, as far as Lincoln goes.

LOVED this place! The martinis and other drinks are very reasonably priced and I loved the decor. It gets pretty packed as the night goes on, we got there around 9 and it was just the right size crowd. I had a great time!

I have somehow forgotten to review the Starlite until now.  I have no idea how I let it slip between the cracks.  This is probably my favorite cocktail place in the whole city.

The Starlite is in the basement of Buzzard Billy's and located in the Haymarket.  You walk in, and you feel transported to another time and place.  It has a speakeasy kind of feel, and is chalk full of retro items-couches, chairs, signs, lights etc.

The drinks here are fantastic.  They have a huge list of martinis and cocktails and have lots of specials during the week.  I love the Daddy-O (extra dirty), French 75 and their Moscow Mules.  The service I have to say is inconsistent.  Sometimes it's fantastic, but some times when they get really swamped the service slips.

Every week they have "Throwback Thursdays" and starting at 7 they have free appetizers, cheap drink specials and retro trivia.  My friends and I are all too young to compete with the older crowd, but we enjoy giving the trivia a try none-the-less.

They have a great appetizer menu (dips and chips, candied nuts etc) and my favorite is the Miller High Life Spinach and Artichoke Dip.  It's definitely my favorite s&a dip.

They have revamped the place in the last several months and have brand new, giant booths that can seat up to 6-8 people.  It's a fantastic addition.

A blast from the past that is a fun as their martini list!  Come chill with a close friend or occupy the couches with a small group. Great for kicking off a great evening or to wind down before heading home.

Love the Starlight...It is kind of my go-to place and like to bring out-of-town peeps down to the depths of the starlight for a martooni or three.

My personal fave is the Ruby Red.  I could drink about a thousand, except that wouldn't be safe.

My only complaint is that the wait staff is a little careless-they spill a little of my drink almost every time.  And this girl doesn't like wasted booze.

I was a little wary at first when we headed downstairs into an atmosphere that is clearly striving for a 50's-60's Rat Pack vibe, but had obvious traces of 'college town bar' such as stained carpet...  Still, it was something like 2 in the afternoon during a NU game, so the place was almost totally empty.  The Starlight's claim to fame is probably the classic cocktails, and I felt like I needed to have something unique.  Luckily our server recommended the Moscow Mule... I remember it so clearly... (and this was probably 3 years ago).  So four stars for just recommending and serving me my first mule.

They got rid of the monkey looking suits and now their waiters wear streamlined black. Still my favorite place to go with for a cocktail, when it's too cold or too hot to sit outside.

I really liked this place! Retro, funky and cozy with a great ambiance for just hanging out and chatting with friends. They also have a really unique drink menu (orange push-up FTW) that I would love to try again!

    Kitchy, campy, fun retro bar.

A couple years ago, Starlite probably would've gotten a 5 from me, but since then it keeps getting more and more crowded.  Good drinks, great atmosphere.   They used to hold hula hoop & Twister contests for free drinks.  Free hors d'vores on selected nights.

I still like this place, but wish it weren't always so crowded.  If you get there too late, you'll be hard-pressed to find a place to sit.

    Suggestions:
    - They've got a HUGE vestibule in the front.  Management should utilize it as a coat check, or somehow expand seating area.

During a recent trip to Lincoln, NE my girlfriend insisted that we check out the Starlite Lounge.  I really didn't know what to expect, so after dinner at Lazlo's we walked around the corner to the Starlite Lounge.

Unfortunately I didn't really know what to expect and because of religious purposes I couldn't have any milk based drinks (after having a meat dinner), so I had to stick with beer.  They list of specialty drinks was large and so many things sounded really good.

My girlfriend who did not have a meat dinner was able to try a couple of the drinks, which looked really good.  I will definitely need to check this place out again, but next time, before dinner.

An interesting bar in the Haymarket district of Lincoln. Most of the drinks are good and the atmosphere is usually great. Service could be better.

    I Love this place!

The Starlight Lounge is romantic with just a twinge of seediness. The actual bar is pretty small. I was sitting there waiting for my friend to join me and all of a sudden I was completely surrounded by people all clamoring for the bartender's attention. I felt claustrophobic until my friend arrived and we made our way to one of the tables.

The decor is mid-century with comfy blue vinyl swivel chairs, posters of Sinatra et al. adorning the walls to go with the 50s-60s music.  The crowd is a good mix of college aged and older.

And, of course, what Lincoln bar would be complete without ESPN on the flat screen in every corner.

The Starlight Lounge is in my top three fav Lincoln bars.

There is no bar in the world -- I am convinced -- like the Starlite Lounge in the Haymarket of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Come here on a Thursday night? Free appetizers and games for prizes. At least, in my day that's what they did. The drinks flow freely and creatively, curing any sweet tooth with a leaning toward liquor. I'll admit that the service is often (read: always) slow, but it's worth the wait because the drinks are amazing, the ambiance (think: Rat Pack) is killer and the people you'll find there aren't your typical bar crowd. It's older folks, college kids, intellectuals, business people, and more.

So tip your waitresses, imbibe the classic tunes, and swivel out of that chair and onto a couch at this classic Lincoln joint -- one of my favorites, and one that I always go back to when in town!

Wow, what a great bar!  I was visiting with friends in Lincoln last year and we found the Starlite Lounge completely by accident, but we all had such a good time there that we went back again the next night.

Located in a basement area down a flight of steep stairs, one gets the impression that the place is gonna be a dive, but the atmosphere inside is really fun.  They're going for a vintage 50s vibe with low lighting, orange carpet, dark wood panelling, and turquoise furniture, and it works!  They have the usual tables, stools, and a bar area, but also a couple of couches, and my friends and I were lucky enough to snag a tucked-in-a-corner couch with a coffee table for our drinks.  The music was an interesting mix of 50s and newer songs and wasn't so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation.

Both nights that we were there, our waitress was absolutely wonderful (we had the same waitress both nights).  She was friendly and attentive, and very much deserving of the tips we left for her (if you're still there, o waitress whose name we never got, The Couch Ladies love you!).  The drinks were reasonably priced and there was no cover charge.  We were early both nights but stayed until closing (I told you we had a good time) and the place filled up with the usual mix of college kids and older folks like us, everyone having a good time.

I'll definitely go back to the Starlite Lounge if I'm ever in Lincoln again, and I recommend it highly!
